How to unlock the Piggyback achievement in WATCH_DOGS - Definitive Guide

You can choose this game mode by going to the online part of the game and picking online tailing. Your objective is to stalk the online player and watch his every move Untill you reach 100% which should take 2 minutes if you keep a constant lock on him. The other player has no idea that your in his game Untill the end of the 100% or they spot you (at least in my experience). To blend in perfectly just act like a normal NPC when driving or walking, if you feel like they know where you are you can use the blackout hack and move to another spot or chase them down if they start driving/running away during the night time. If they should leave the game (quit to main menu) it will still count as a win so don't panic if this happens to you :)

If any down votes please leave a reason as to why you down-voted as it helps me write better guides in the future. :)

My achievement didn't unlock until I completed 11 tailings.

Just a heads up to do one more if it doesn't unlock the achievement despite the progression claiming you have the achievement

This one is pretty simple. Sometimes you'll get lucky and it will be someone who happens to be afk. =)

Yep, you just have to start observing. You only need 100% the one time.

1) It does tell you when someone is tailing you and gives you a purple circle to go to.

2) You have to either reach 100% or have the player quit out for it to count.

My advice is to jump in a car and pretend you're part of the normal traffic flow - worked flawlessly for the five times I've tried this so far.

@ xTGE I can confirm that if you try starting a mission of any type or try fast traveling it will mark the person tailing you with a purple circle similar to hacking I knew I was being tailed all 5 times it took me to unlock Traced.

Anyone know if this has to be consecutive? I failed once or twice, and my bar on the Xbox achievement progression thing reset.

@Reptar, nah it doesn't have to be consecutive. I've had heaps of problems with achievements in Watchdogs having delayed unlocks. Right now I'm at 100% for this one. Will do as Spartan said and go for an 11th.

I tried boosting this with a friend and they did not count toward the total also when invading a friend no exp or money was earned.

You will not be notified that someone has invaded you through tailing, BUT if you scan NPCs their descriptions will change to "Not a threat", indicating that there IS a threat somewhere. "Losing" an online tailing has no consequence whatsoever for the invaded though, so you can just as well let people tail you if you're feeling benevolent.

Ok I JUST got this one. It's honestly REALLY easy. I requested a target from the online menu and then either stayed out of their line of sight or hid in a car. I successfully tailed the target 10 times in a row and with no issues. I was expecting it to be a lot harder but the game must have been updated or something cuz it was way easy and only took me like 30 minutes. I just wish I could get people to tail me cuz I still need the Traced achievement facepalm

You CANT boost it with friends, but nowadays plenty of people are idling to get Traced achievement, so it shouldn’t be too hard.

You must first complete the Online Contracts Introduction at the start of Act 1 Mission 4: Backseat Driver to unlock Online Tailing.

While being invaded I had a purple circle for tailing missions & hacking missons. The only difference from my perspective was when you're being hacked there's an obvious progression bar that appears. So far I've only been "tailed" twice according to my achievement app, both times I was notified and a purple circle indicated their approximate location.

"The other player has no idea that your in his game Untill the end of the 100% or they spot you" (also, just a heads up until should be lower case and there's only one L)

I'm pretty sure either they patched the game or this information is just wrong. I've had people who would've had no idea I was in the game otherwise set up traps for me. For example I had one guy who I had to drive a small distance to, there wasn't any possible way he could've seen me. He pulled the bridge up so he'd know when I came and he had his car facing me. He was more or less stationary the entire time I entered his game, but as soon as I put the bridge down he sprung into action. I've also had several people hid inside buildings (coffee shops, bars, etc) before I was in the area clearly waiting for me. I never entered a tail where the person I was tailing appeared to be unaware of my presence. If they weren't pulling up bridges and crouching in coffee shops, then they were running around clearly searching for me.

You only need camera line of sight, not direct.

Meaning that you don't have to be in a realistic direct line of sight of the player to profile them. You can be hiding around a corner, behind a short wall / fence / etc and still profile. Try to find a place you can do this and maneuver the camera to cover a large viewing area while still in cover.

Don't be afraid to move around.

Unless you're up against some braindead players (which I have found on multiple occasions), the player will be running around like crazy trying to find you, so unlike Hacking where movement is very risky, it isn't as much here as the player has only one large search area to cover that does not shrink over time. Try to stay behind the player and only move once you lose line of sight, but patience can also work as the player will probably head back into line of sight multiple times.

Stay away from cameras.

These will only help the player find you as opposed to you gaining a better profile. Stick to manipulating the player camera or shifting position instead.

Only use a car if they are more than 150m from you.

You are given a reasonable amount of time with no line of sight before the game will force you to regain it before you fail, so if they are running from you on foot and have a decent lead on you, only get in a car if they do as well; otherwise you can catch up to them.

(I have not been able to confirm this yet, but it does feel like if you are closer to the player the percentage will go up faster)

I do believe that the percentage goes faster if you are closer and have a unbroken sight line

The other player won't be aware they're even being tailed, unless they just happen to spot you while scanning NPCs, or unless you do something to tip them off (such as running near them erratically, hacking things like gates and lifts near them that make it clear somebody else did it, or if they try to hack a camera you're already using and it says "In Use". Also, I think the game plays a little instrumental tune when somebody is tailing you (I've seen what I believe to be a connection between the music starting and being tailed), which may alone tip them off.

Otherwise, the game doesn't pop up and tell you that you're being tailed, the way it does for hacking missions.
