How to unlock the Stronger Than The Machine achievement in Windjammers 2 - Definitive Guide
Hi everyone
This guide is based on my experience and, I will try to help you to develop a strategy in order to defeat the game on medium & hard..
To be successful you need to play (if possible) at advantageous conditions like for example: play in a regular field against a Powerful and slower opponent like K.Wessel using yourself a Speedster like H.Mita..
Reading this you might be concerned already about the game and its mechanics so the characters and fields traits. Although let's take again a look..
There are basically three player categories:
1. Speedsters: J.Raposa, H.Mita, S.Miller & S.Delys
2. Balanced: L. Biaggi, J. Costa & S.Ho
3. Heavyweight/Powerful: G.Scott, K.Wessel & H.Max
There are also three kinds of fields:
Narrow: Beach & Tiled
Regular: Clay, Lawn, Stadium, Rooftop & Casino
Wide: Arena, Junkyard & Ring
Additionally there will be springs/obstacles on Clay, Junkyard and Rooftop.
Shots
Straight shot, curve shot, lob shot, drop shot, slap shot, smash, super custom, super lob, super roll smash, super spin & power shot.
I found the most effective are straight shot on regular fields, curve shot in general (practise it!), Super lob against G. scott, super spin in general and Max, Biaggi and Miller's super Customs.
Curve shots from Miller, Wessel & Max looks like are more effective than with other players.
General Strategy
I advise you to use Powerful characters over Speedsters & Balanced Characters and, to play (if possible) in Regular fields without obstacles.
Obstacles may often make the frisbee course unpredictable.
About Fields
I found impossible to beat the AI at Junkyard... Normally if you reach the 2nd/3rd round you will have to choose between Clay or Junkyard. I suggest to choose Clay always.
I found almost impossible to succeed in Rooftop & Ring at Round 4 so I strongly advise you to choose ALWAYS Casino over the other two options when it appears.
About playing against AI
I would avoid (when possible) to play against strong characters like Wessel, Scott or Max. You have higher chances against speedsters & balanced (Except Ho..)
Strategy before the match
Choose Regular Fields instead of narrow or wide.
Try to choose a field without obstacles. If you have to with, choose always Clay.
Play with a Powerful character against a speedster.
Field Selection is for me, the key to success. Ideal conditions are regular with no obstacles.
So in a general sense:
Powerful>Balanced>Speedster
Regular>Narrow&wide
Without obstacles> With obstacles
Example on Round 1:
- You've chosen Max.
- You can choose Lys on Lawn or Costa in Tiled.
Chose Lys on Lawn because: Lawn regular, Lys speedster.
In my experience power beats speed in this game and also, you have more chances in Regular fields because you can get there straight & lob shots where in narrow & wide fields is quite difficult..
Successful run
I beat the game with Max against the following opponents:
Round 1: 2-1 vs Lys on Lawn
Round 2: 2-0 vs Costa on Tiled
Round 3: 3-2 vs Raposa on Clay
Round 4: 2-1 vs Biaggi on Casino
Round 5: 2-0 Against Mita on Arena
I found the third round the most difficult by far. The moment you reach third round quite often that's a signal you will finish succeding.
Difficulty might be something like: 6, 6/7, 8, 7, 7/8
Strategy playing
- On regular fields you may get straight shots against Powerful & Balanced not probably against speedsters.
- I wouldn't use very much super lob shots in hard, normally rivals will catch it and send it back. You may score but has to be when your rival is close to the net or halfway to baseline.
- Super Spin shot might work often when attacking or counter attacking.
- Some Supers & Power shots are better to fill in like those from Max, Ho or Miller.
- Improve your curve shot you might get some key points on hard with it. Practise it.
- Improve your defense, learn how to not commit unforced errors. Learn the supers of your rivals.
- Use lob shot to send back your rival to the baseline. Lob shot is VERY important on defense and to keep control of the round. If you have advantage waste time with lob shots!
- I don't suggest to use smashes since above AI lev.6 difficulty they will catch 99% of the time.
- Don't quit, play, play and play. Develop your reflexes and dash movement.
Now I'm posting some videos from my successful run..
Round 2 Set 1: Max vs Costa on Tiled
https://www.xbox.com/play/media/4R4R9SEP
Basically I tried to lure him to the corner and connect a straight or super spin shot to beat him.
Round 3: Max vs Raposa on Clay
https://www.xbox.com/play/media/8WPEU3CP
Most difficult match he punished me often with curve shots. I tried my best here with super spins & super customs. I tried some power shots as well. On the suddendeath I performed a power shot close to the net to ensure it would push him backwards in the case he caught it.
Round 4: Max vs Biaggi on Casino
https://www.xbox.com/play/media/ETY28MVN
Here I keep myself on defence and trying sometimes with straight shots. I succeeded with some super customs, a power shot and without doing much unforced errors on defense.
I kept my energy waiting for the 8-point frisbee and perform a clutch power shot. That's one of the reasons also to play at Casino. Play smart!
Final Round: Max vs Mita on Arena
https://www.xbox.com/play/media/H69TUDNL
I did a good use of straight & Curve shots. I won but because I had perfect counter attacking game. Wasn't a difficult match at all. Note how in the 2nd set I use lob shot sometimes to waste time!
That's it! Hope these set of strategies/advises can help you out. Play smart, with strategy, choose wisely fields and rivals. Play, play and play!
All the best,
Peke.

I think i got a really good tip for everyone who is struggling to Complete the Arcade Mode on Hard difficulty.
And its really simple.Just abuse the Pause Option the whole time but be careful no to quit by accident. When your opponent attacks you can easily predict where the disc is going to land.Try to get used to abuse this trick the right way and after a few attempts u will get it.Try to learn the special attacks from all characters and how to counter them. You can move to the ideal position while spamming the pause button with Its still hard even with this but it makes the whole thing a lot easier.Good Luck !
EDIT:
I would like to add the comment from Moat Carp, thank you!
Taking this from a Windjammers fan site:
-Don't rely on slides so much
-Reposition yourself to the center of the court after each shot
-Avoid sliding diagonally, work on vertical movement
-Stay in front of the safety line when trying to intercept super moves. If too far back, you might get slammed into the net
-The first two matches are around level 6, next two are around 7, and the final is around 8
-For higher level games, the guide recommends trying to land smashes. When your opponent is around 7 or 8, they will receive almost all of their shots. Your objective should be to put as many points on the board while limiting the number of points scored on you.
In general, the better you are at defending, the more likely you are to succeed.
For early rounds, I found a lot of success using straight shots in corners - especially when the opponent is on the opposite side. Super spin shots also worked well for me.

Thanks @Seriuoz for the pausing trick. I recommend rebinding the key to something easily accessible/spammable using the Xbox Controller App.
Even if you don't spam pause you can use it tactically to predict the direction of AI's super. Otherwise supers that hug the walls (Miller) launched from close to mid range force slower characters to make a 50/50 guess.
Stalling tip by @Laser Rock Show is also very good. Bang your slow auto-return shot off the wall at max angle to burn even more clock.
Lob is a good defensive shot. I aimed with the D-pad to send it into the opponent's corners reliably. Thumbstick aiming was less reliable.

"be careful no to quit by accident" It happened to me too.

Finally got this from around 50ish try.
Just here to say that this certainly doable without the pausing trick. Personally I thought it was quite cumbersome for me because it takes me off the rhythm, and I accidentally pressed quit a buncha times doing it so it wasn't for me.
I used H max on my win.
Important to note that I also got so close (Final set on Final Round) with S.Ho and Miller.
My tips are:
-At the very start of the game, try to collect as much points as possible in order to collect more credits
-I find that in order to score on an opponent the best is by good timing. When you toss a disc, try to hit the exact moment the disc lands on your character when fully charged. then use the Super Spin Move.
-Speaking of Super Spin Move this was the ace. sometimes the opponent will catch this but if youre in a good position and you got proper timing, this will give you most of the points in the later rounds.
-Super Lobs are less reliable in later rounds , but its good in making you're opponent go to the other side of the stadium.
-Don't try to use fast shots against them, delay if you can. if you use Straight shots that are fast and the opponent is close, they will counter you with a SlapShot or they would catch and quickly Curve shot on the other side of the stadium
-Finally the most important , is prioritizing DEFENSE. I can't stress this enough, this is probably much more important that trying to score. if the opponent is ahead, don't try to rush by finding an opening. just receive all of the discs the opponent throws at you. then either HIT IT ON THE WALL , or better try to GET A TOSS in. so you can do a super spin move. Focus on your side of the Stadium more than the opponents.
Just practice practice practice, there is luck involved with the Stages and the swingy nature of the rallies on Stages that has Moving rails at the middle.
just keep at it. it took me around 50 ish tries so expect that amount of repetitions.
