How to unlock the Death to the traps achievement in World of Van Helsing: Deathtrap - Definitive Guide
Supposedly this can be done in co-op. This entire solution is for the tier 4 solo without a trap, but it should apply at tier 2 still. Just realize the abilities may not all be max level.
Skill Tree:
You'll want the following all at level 10, and will need to be 60+ to do this (but not necessarily 100). Remember you can reset ability points by pressing back in the skill tree:
Combat Skills
- Strike (with Furious Strike)
- Chain Snare
- Frost Ring (with Freezing Wave and Glacial Tide)
- Fire Strike (with Flametounge)
- Bash (with Murderous Blow)
- Rage
- Juggernaut
- Channeled Rage
- Physical Conditioning
- Fury
- Iron Skin
Trap Skills
None
World Skills
- Mark of the Slayer
- Mark of the North
Optionally, you can also grab Touch of Death if you have extra ability points.
Strategy:
You'll play on the first level, Darkmoor.
In the first wave, make sure you're at the middle spawn point and take out the entire spawn. You'll move away once everything is dead or when you see the south side moving forward.
In the second wave, you'll clear the entire northeast spawn and then move to the southwest until the middle enemies get to the intersection.
In the third wave, you'll kill the northeast spawn again until the middle spawn begins spawning, then move there.
In general, you're going to be spamming Fire Strike and killing tons of enemies. You can Bash the Giants of course, but generally even they will fall to Fire Strike. If there's more than one or two enemies, you should use Fire Strike. If you're running low on Rage, use Frost Ring to kill a bunch of stuff and get all your rage back (thanks to Channeled Rage).
The first wave and second wave should have no leaks, though it's certainly possible to get this with leaks. The third wave will undoubtedly have leaks. If you leak a boss, you automatically lose. Don't leak a boss.
The three bosses will come one in each lane and they'll probably get to the intersection as you're still fighting. Ideally you'll finish up just before they get there. Make a bee line for one and start bashing it. If it launches out the little orbs, use Chain Snare to kill all three at once and Bash again. It should take about 3 hits or less to get a kill. Then move on to the next one.
They freeze you so it can be very frustrating. I lost the first few times here. But you will figure it out and it will work.
You can see the video below of me in action doing this solo with no towers if you want to see how I handle the enemies. It was a quick video so no voice over - sorry!

SOLO METHOD
Do it on level "XII.-Wounded Crag" (you can check the name of the level on the bottom left corner of the screen). Before loading up the map make sure to change the difficulty to normal (push up on the left stick).
The reason you'll use this level is that even though you can't BUILD any traps, you can USE the ones that start with it, the dragon statues that make green fire rain down the whole map (officially called Wind of Death traps). And the funny thing with this kind of trap is that the more you use it, the more it generates essence by killing lots of enemies at once, so you don't have to worry about running out of shots. The downside is that all those traps have a somewhat long cooldown/reset time. On the other hand, there are 7 of them around the map, so if you use them wisely, you'll be fine.
Learn where each of them is positioned before starting the waves. Try to mentally plan in advance how you're going to move around the map during the waves so that you can use all of them and be back at the first ones by the time they're ready to be used again. I usually started by the top left one and moved to the top right one before teleporting to the bottom ones. Other times I did the opposite. What really matters is for you to remember which ones you already used and are in cooldown time and which ones you still have left during the wave.
Another important thing to consider is that the green rain fire will kill all the smaller enemies, but only partially damage the big ones. So, after using 1 trap, see if you can fight the bigger enemies that are closest to the gateway. Careful though, as they might come from 3 different sides and some might even spawn the little spider crawlers. Don't waste multiple trap shots trying to kill the bigger enemies unless you're near the end of the wave.
This method works and it's not as difficult as it may seem. It took me a couple of tries to get good at knowing when to fire each trap. You don't want to do it too soon nor wait too long. But whenever things were under control I would wait until a whole group of little enemies got out of a gate (checking the map), to make sure to wipe them all out at once. If you need to take a breather and assess the situation, you can pause by checking the map or even get into a teleportation portal. Unlike those actions, be aware that when you're interacting with the trap the game isn't paused and enemies continue to march on.
My char was level 38 when I pulled it off. Was well equipped with a few orange items, but nothing exceedingly special. My regular damage was 750 and my critical chance was 15%. Sometimes when fighting giant enemies a single hit of my char could reach 10k in damage, due to that plus the Bash skill (last active skill on the combat tree). Another wonderful thing about the mercenary class is that at that point the char could be hit and hit and hit without being in danger of dying (I also had Physical Conditioning skill at max, which means health regeneration at 300%). I rarely had to use any potions to boost his healing anymore.
This was meant to be a concise solution, but I wanted to give the major tips to unlocking the achievo the way I did. If it helps you too, please leave a thumbs up to let me know. Thanks!

For this achievement, it is easiest to play on Level I, Tier 2, Medium difficulty. You can wait until you're leveled extremely high if this is your main character, or just be sure to know your skills well. The Mercenary will primarily use his main attack consistently, coupled with Chain Snare and Frost Ring for crowd control, and Bash for larger targets that require a bit extra to take down.
You'll want to use the main choke point on this map and simply wait for enemies to come to you. If you try to move side to side you may let too many small enemies slip by and fail the level.
