How to unlock the Immortal Commander achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide
**Comments have said this critical problem is now addressed, haven't personally tried another legendary run since I got the achieve when the problems were still there. Guess I'll leave this for posterity**
Not a solution but a warning of the inevitable limitations of A xbox1 Legendary difficulty run, I never had this game breaking problem with Commander difficulty.
When playing on Legendary it obviously takes longer to do research and avenger timers and you can eventually progress to a point when your save file become so large that you can only have about 20 saves and the mission loading times are a few minutes minimum.
You will then go through 2 stages:
1. Not long after noticing this you'll get back to the avenger and be unable to save or go the the geoscape because it glitches to Xbox home. This is a temporary problem because you'll be able to reload your last auto save from a mission wait for it to reload to the avenger then you can finally save again.
2. A few missions after this you cannot save or go to geoscape after a mission at all despite reloading the last auto save of your current mission.
Spent a lot of time putting off story missions by just doing the random facilities that pop up whenever the countdown for the avatar project went off. Got my team completely loaded out (shred storm cannons). Took a long time getting every continent and very very late game when I was finally ready to start finishing up the main story missions I got to a point where I could no longer save my game at the avenger or go to geoscape even after a reload of my last auto save for a mission. Tried reloading my few remaining old saves, skipping missions and just trying to finish the last few story missions to end the game quick but nothing allowed me to progress past whatever my next mission would be.
Reloaded my last geoscape save that actually allowed me to get to the geoscape and just let the avatar project finish. I got to 7/4/2036, 58 missions deep, 835 aliens killed, 48 hack rewards, 15 scientists, 17 engineers, built 14 radio relays as well as collected 12 294 supplies and 3 705 intel.
I realize I probably stretched the game pretty thin and I enjoyed doing it because I get to play more of this game I love before getting all achieves, but it also put a damper on things so I hope to help others from being off put by similar experiences.
On my 2nd legend run through (before the update and DLC) got to the "unable to save after a mission but able to reload n save" phase at 11/07/2035 . While keeping only five save files at max.

I also confirm that the game did this to me. I had to reload the previous mission and finish the last turn and wait through many long loading screens. Also the Xbox would crash if I went to the Bridge or tried to save. I just had to keep repeating this till it worked.

The latest patch fixed the loading times i believe.

INFINITE TURN GLITCH
Works in base game only, it does not in War of The Choosen.
Achievement is quite easy with infinite turn glitch. This glitch works in standard and Ironman playthrough, on any difficulty.
To make it work you have to save game short before you finish last move of your last character after which normally enemy would have his turn and then load that save. You will still have your turn while enemy looses his.
Just be carefull with few exceptions, enemies who transforms from other forms or pop up can still make their move so watch out when you want to trigger them - this applies for Andromedons, Chryssalids and Faceless.
Using this glitch you can even go for all below achievements in same playthrough:

The The Few and the Proud achievement in XCOM 2 worth 346 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ difficulty without buying a Squad Size upgrade
The Valhalla achievement in XCOM 2 worth 465 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ difficulty in Ironman mode
The The Untouchables achievement in XCOM 2 worth 264 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ without losing a soldier
Legend is the hardest difficulty in the game. The tutorial is automatically disabled on this difficulty, enemies are stronger and have more health, plus resource costs are higher. In addition, the game is significantly longer. In order to unlock this trophy, you must play through the entire campaign on Legend. Changing the difficulty mid-game and then changing it back, will negate this trophy!
