How to unlock the The Untouchables achievement in XCOM 2 - Definitive Guide

Not really a "guide" so to speak, I'll delete this when/if someone wants to create a more complete version. However, this is just a heads up that if you run the tutorial mission, the soldier deaths will ruin the chance of getting this achievement. So make sure you skip the tutorial before you start down the road for this one.

As discussed in this thread of the XCom 2 forum:
The Untouchables - Tutorial Deaths

BLUEBERRYPETE stated:
I bought the DLC, and my SPARK (non human robot) squad member died on the last mission and I still got the achievement.

So there may be some leeway given in the final mission, or regarding SPARK units when playing with the DLC. Ideally some other people can confirm the particulars of this.

OK, so confirmed by Lt Davo that the final mission is the key and not simply the unit being a SPARK.

Orange1155 has confirmed that losing mind controlled enemies during the final battle does not void the achievement, but the lost "soldiers" do show up in the Bar's roster. I would assume mind controlled enemies that are lost at any point in the game should not invalidate this achievement, although I would wait for a confirmation from someone before taking that chance.

(Seriously, someone post a proper solution, this looks like garbage)

The leeway isn't with the Spark, it is with the final mission. You canNOT lose any unit of any kind before the final mission, even a Spark, and even in the tutorial. You CAN lose units during the final mission and still unlock the achivement.

I finally unlocked this today on my legend playthrough. I wanted to let it be known that if you mind control a gatekeeper and raise psi zombies and they die the end of mission and end of campaign statistics will show them as "Soldier's Lost" but they don't show up in the memorial and my achievement still unlocked.

Can confirm that units killed in the final mission do NOT nullify the achievement

Just thinking here, but could there be away around this? Say if someone played the tutorial could they simply delete the game clean their cache and then start a new game to get this?

@B8TINGU - if you're starting a new game on Commander without the tutorial enabled, then you're good to go regardless of whatever you did in a previous game.

I can confirm that having soldier(s) at state "Bleeding out" before killing the last target of the final mission will not void this achievement.

It seems there is still confusion or uncertainty over the requirements for this achievement, but they are actually extremely simple:

Before you begin the final mission, is there a fallen soldiers list in your bar/memorial, with names and pictures on it?

If you answered, "yes," then too bad, you can't unlock this achievement. Either a) start a new game, or b) reload from a point where you had no deaths. If the tutorial was enabled on this playthrough, then b) is out.

If you answered "no," you will unlock the achievement when you beat the final mission no matter what.

One recommendation I would have for this is to delete the Alien Hunters DLC pack (BEFORE you start a game - learned that the hard way). That frickin' Gamma snakedude can easily kill your soldiers with his tongue (that is long enough to drag someone halfway across the map) and kill 'em in a turn, well before you have any chance of saving the soldier. Add in the absurd level of health the rulers get and it's nothing more than a pain, especially if you are doing the Ironman run at the same time.

I don't believe you thought that through, or I misunderstood your statement. If they are starting a new game, then they can avoid the tutorial. But if you are talking about changing if the game registers the deaths in the tutorial, I do not think that is possible. Once the deaths happen, the progress is saved and it is a part of all future save files (I think). Short of hex level hacking of the save file, which is possibly as simple as flipping a bit, I doubt there is a work around.

INFINITE TURN GLITCH
Works in base game only, it does not in War of The Choosen.

Achievement is quite easy with infinite turn glitch. This glitch works in standard and Ironman playthrough, on any difficulty.
To make it work you have to save game short before you finish last move of your last character after which normally enemy would have his turn and then load that save. You will still have your turn while enemy looses his.
Just be carefull with few exceptions, enemies who transforms from other forms or pop up can still make their move so watch out when you want to trigger them - this applies for Andromedons, Chryssalids and Faceless.

Using this glitch you can even go for all below achievements in same playthrough:

XCOM 2Immortal CommanderThe Immortal Commander achievement in XCOM 2 worth 430 pointsOverthrow the aliens on Legend difficulty

XCOM 2The Few and the ProudThe The Few and the Proud achievement in XCOM 2 worth 343 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ difficulty without buying a Squad Size upgrade

XCOM 2ValhallaThe Valhalla achievement in XCOM 2 worth 460 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ difficulty in Ironman mode

XCOM 2The UntouchablesThe The Untouchables achievement in XCOM 2 worth 263 pointsBeat the game on Commander+ without losing a soldier

Mind Controlled or Hacked units if they die during an mission does not interfere with the achievement.
But, I controlled a gatekeeper and made some psi zombies.
The psi zombies counts as dead soldiers, this could happen also with sectoids.

What if an extra soldier died?
I ask because I got that perk where there's a chance that an ADVENT Soldier joins the squad at the start of a fight. And the Stun Lancer died just before we killed the last enemy and extracted. I cannot go back because I'm on Iron Man mode. Just wanna know if anyone can confirm whether than Stun Lancer death is gonna cost me this achievement. Thanks!

I just wanted to say, I wasn't going for this trophy but it popped on my playthrough AFTER losing 2 soldiers on the final mission. If you're reading this you're probably save scumming for this trophy, but just an fyi if you are iron manning it.

Missable!

If you are following the Road Map, then this will be your first playthrough. Before you begin, make sure you do not enable the tutorial. The events that happen in the tutorial will negate this trophy. You also probably want to attempt this trophy with Ironman disabled, as that will allow you to reload an earlier save as and when things go wrong. Seriously, your soldier can have a 97% chance to hit a target and they will find a way to miss. You will have enemy pods appear in places you didn't expect, critical hits to your soldiers at the worst possible time and failed attempts at hacking a device that puts your entire squad at risk. Due to this, you are going to need a Plan B.

If you are not playing with Ironman enabled, the game will create an autosave at the beginning of every turn. It does this for three turns and then begins overwriting the oldest autosave with each subsequent turn. Don't be afraid to abuse this system. Take an action, see what happens and then reload an earlier save if things don't go your way. That may sound like you're abusing the system but it's a useful tactic and a great learning experience. Over time, you will get more comfortable with the game and find yourself relying less on backup saves. Even so, I would recommend making a manual save every now and then (e.g. at the beginning of each mission) so that you are not completely reliant on an autosave that may eventually get overwritten.

The good thing about this trophy is that its requirements are directly in-line with how you should play XCOM 2. You should never let your soldiers die. In fact, it’s very likely you will complete the requirements for this trophy in most of your playthroughs anyway. The soldiers you have are your most valuable resource. Yes, you can recruit new soldiers from the Barracks but they start out weak and take time to learn new skills. That's time you don’t have because the aliens will not wait for you to catch up. By mid-game (around June) you want to have a small group of soldiers that you are using on every mission, because stronger aliens will continue to appear at the start of each month (until August anyway, when they finally plateau out) and you will want to be able to match them with equally strong units. Bringing a bunch of Rookies into later missions is suicide.

In order to get this trophy, you cannot allow a single soldier to die. A soldier dies when their HP is reduced to zero. Sometimes. Other times, they are put in critical condition. You will know this happens because a message and a "bleed out" counter will appear, allowing you three turns to reach that soldier before they officially die. To prevent a soldier from bleeding out, you can:

  1. Stabilize them with a Medikit
  2. Call in an EVAC helicopter
  3. Complete the mission before the counter reaches zero

The first two options require moving another unit next to the fallen soldier. That soldier must be carrying a Medikit to stabilize them or they must pick up the fallen soldier and call for an EVAC by pressing . Calling for an EVAC will remove both soldiers from the field of battle but it will prevent the wounded soldier from dying. You will need to do this once for Nick of Time.

You can purchase the "Stay With Me" upgrade from the Guerrilla Tactics School to increase a soldier's chances of bleeding out when their HP reaches zero. Also, from the Avenger, you can check out the Memorial, which shows a list of all of the soldiers who have fallen in battle. Obviously you want that list to remain empty in order to get this trophy so feel free to check it if you're in the middle of the game and can't remember if you lost a soldier at any point.

See the "Tips for Surviving XCOM 2" section of the Road Map for more information: LINK

If you play on "Veteran", ALWAYS turn off the training mission. Two soldiers die on it and the achievement does not drop at the end of the game. There is no training mission on Legend.

Aliens killed under control by you or their brethren do not count. On the final mission (Leviathan) you CAN lose soldiers.
