How to unlock the Substory Champion achievement in Yakuza 4 Remastered - Definitive Guide

All character substories are perfectly explained in a guide by CyricZ: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps4/239456-yakuza-4-remastered...

For the last Amon substory there is one trick how to make it easier which is not mentioned in the guide. First complete the game and go for this in Premium adventure (so you don't void the achievement for not changing the difficulty from normal).

After every Amon guy there is a checkpoint so you can die twice at the start of each fight on purpose and let the game lower the difficulty to easy. Also if you equip Saejima and Kiryu with several pistols their fights become almost a joke so only Akiyama and Tanimura will need some healing items. Also on easy Sacred Tree armor for Tanimura is not needed because the SMG doesn't make that much damage.

Having struggled against Jiro's ever-refilling health gauge, I'll say that pistols are a must for Saejima, unless you're really good. I had three revolvers plus three additional weapons for heat actions. Weapons break if you use them in regular attacks, but if you pop Tauriner for heat and then equip an umbrella or stun gun or something like that, you can deliver a lot of damage in a short period of time. I finally got past Jiro by emptying two guns right away to build heat, swapping to unarmed and grabbing/throwing Jiro, then delivering a heat action while he was on the ground. Those took him down to about a health bar. I then emptied the remaining gun, rebuilt heat, grabbed/threw him again, and then delivered another heat action while he was on the ground. That took him down to about three-quarters, and I then paused, popped another Tauriner, and then switched my weapons to stun gun/etc. Getting one of those right away got him out of orange heat and into red heat, at which point he was no longer healing, and I only needed one other heat action to put him out of action for good.

For Akiyama, I'd recommend filling on Tauriners and just luring him to the walls for Essence of Wall Crush. For Tanimura, if you have the Sacred Tree Armor you can wait for him to begin his spray-and-pray animation and deliver XXXYY combos very effectively, then parry him repeatedly into a wall once he's close enough. For Kiryu, you'll want healing items and possibly the pistols, but I beat Jo with a few well-timed Tiger Drops and a whole bunch of Komaki Parries. Just watch out for the Orbital Laser blasts, as CyricZ mentions in his guide.

Just in case some people are confused, you only need to complete the protagonists’ substories and the Amon one, no need for the hostess substories.

Since I struggled with the Amon fights in previous games on easy I thought I will need to lower the difficulty and max myself out for this. Luckily I tried it before I spent time on grinding because the main game was very easy on normal. I was right. This fight is a joke, even with non maxed characters. I did this in the finale on normal. I bought 15 or so Staminan Royales for each character and I used two on Akiyama, 5 on Kiryu for safety reasons and none on the others. I put the Sacred Tree Armor on Tanamura but it was probably unnecessary.

As for the hammer fight (because that is the only one who can do actual damage) bring 6 revolvers with Saejima (mostly as a reference, you only need 5 actually). You don't need anything else, no armor or healing items actually. When the fight begins pull a revolver and press Y until it is empty or the hammer gets too close, then run away a bit and continue. When the first three revolvers are out, switch to the other three. Halfway into the fifth the Amon should die. That is it, he will never touch you. Mind you this was on normal... I guess if you bring revolvers with Kiryu the last Amon should go down even faster when he switches to the hammer.

With Akiyama you can sometimes do a combo after using Wall Crush, and therefore have a chance of doing another heat move without using another Staminan. On Easy you only need 1 revolver with Saejima. With Tanimura you can abuse Essense of Combos (Performed after using a finisher, best done with a simple XY combo). With Kiryu I did the same thing as with Saejima and it took 2 revolvers this time. Definitely the easiest set of Amons in the series and I had no armor.

Doing them on easy was the key here, I'm useless at the combat otherwise. Still had issues with Akiyama and Tanimura but was able to brute force it with healing items. Saejima and Kiryu's fights were a breeze, 1 or 2 guns and done.

RGG’s enemy designers are back at it again with the stinkest pile of shit you’ll find in a 500km radius.

For Jiro, on Normal get 6-7 revolvers for Saejima and just shoot him to death. For Jo, get 5 (4 was enough for me but only barely so I’d recommend a backup) and make sure you spam Essence of Rolling whenever you have Heat. That makes his fight a joke.

For Kazuya, get some heat (taunt spam should work in phase 1) and get him near a wall to perform a Heat Action. While he gets back up, perform cn_X cn_Y cn_Y to get him back on the floor. Repeat for as long as possible; make sure to do Essence of Finishing if you get Heat. You can also set up cn_X cn_Y while he’s walking around to get a little combo in; that’s basically the only other option that Kazuya won’t punish. In phase 2, the counter is your only consistent option; the infinite and set up are useless there.

For Sango the Specially Shitty, abuse cn_X cn_Y cn_Y whenever you get Heat and Sango is either reloading or doing an attack (i.e. unloading his SMG in phase 1). Otherwise he will punish literally anything you try. Fortunately once you get to phase two you can also wall parry spam him to death to make the fight faster. Just keep an eye on your health; his damage output is as bullshit as Jiro’s in "K2".
