How to unlock the Campaign Gold achievement in Batman Arkham City - Definitive Guide

Since there is no guide for this one, I'll give it a shot.

The campaigns consist of doing 3 maps in a row from the normal section, but you only have 3 retries before you have to start over. You also have buffs and debuffs that are given for each campaign, all of which have to be utilized by the time you finish. In other words, if there are six total modifiers, and you use a total of four on the first two maps, you will be forced to use the last two on the final map. For this reason, it is imperative that you plan out what you're going to do.

1) I would recommend getting good enough at the combat challenges that you can get 3 medals without much difficultly. The predator maps will often be the harder parts of the campaign, as you can quite easily miss a specific type of takedown or get shot to bits if you get careless.

2) Use as many debuffs on the first map as you can. The first map is repeatable, and you can therefore try as many times as you want, so you're going to want this map to be your most challenging. Don't be afraid to fail a couple times if it means smooth sailing for the rest of the campaign

3) I recommend doing this achievement at the same time you are doing the regular ranked gold achievement. In particular, as soon as you figure out how to do a predator map, go right over to the campaign with the corresponding map while you are still familiar with it. Predator requires knowing what you're doing (especially on the final maps) and you're gonna want your path fresh in your mind.

4) Be aware of which buffs/debuffs are good for which game type, but also be aware if a debuff will prevent you from completing a predator task. For example, if you're on the third map of your campaign, and you are required to do an inverted takedown from a gargoyle, but you are stuck having the gargoyles booby trapped, then you're shit out of luck. Plan ahead.

5) If a map starts off badly, resist the urge to hit restart if you're not on your first map. I know this is obvious, but I quite frequently hit it in frustration only to remember a second too late that restarts aren't free.

A list of buffs/debuffs and my opinions on them:
DEBUFFS:

Gadget Malfunction: In Combat, all gadgets will be disabled. In Predator, Detective Mode will be scrambled for the entire challenge.
Opinion: This one is obviously best saved for combat. It’s not a particularly bad one either. Just don’t forget it’s turned on.

Time Limit: Adds a time limit to complete the challenge. Defeat enemies to extend your time.
Opinion: This one can be used on either Combat or Predator depending on your confidence in your ability to beat a predator map quickly. Though, it’s pretty hard to fail on a Combat challenge if you are consistently killing guys using special takedowns, etc.

Increased Aggression: Enemies will be stronger, faster and tougher!
Opinion: I never noticed much of a difference in either scenario. I assume you have less time to react in Combat to counters and they take more damage. In predator, I believe they are more aware and their guns do more damage.

Decreased Health: The player starts the challenge with reduced health.
Opinion: In predator, you start with almost zero health, while in Combat, you have more of a cushion. Best saved for combat unless you’re confident that the guards won’t even know what hit them in Predator.

Protective Aura: One enemy will be surrounded with a protective aura which prevents them from taking damage. The aura moves from enemy to enemy over time.
Opinion: This one is annoying in both modes. In Combat, if you try to attack him, and he’s the only one around, you lose your combo. In Predator, it can make a guy immune just as he gets right next to the glass or wood or whatever. Either way, best taken care of on the first map if you can.

Danger Zones: In Combat, Gun Racks will be activated during the challenge for enemies to obtain firearms. In Predator, the environment will have booby-trapped Vantage Points.
Opinion: I live on the Vantage Point gargoyles, and I assume most other people do too. Not to mention, they are a must if you need to grapple out of a sticky situation. For most people, I would think this is best saved for Combat, but that depends on your play style. Unfortunately, this debuff is on the Predator expert campaign (the last one). I saved it for the last map and used the room with the sniper across from your spawn as a vantage point to knock guys off edges with my REC (in case you were wondering).

One Hand Tied: In Combat, counter icons will not be displayed before an enemy attacks. In Predator, the player will not be able to perform a Silent Takedown from behind.
Opinion: Both of these options are bad and depend on your play style. If you’ve beaten New Game +, you should be relatively comfortable countering without icons. However, some people don’t use silent takedowns from behind, so it’s really up to you. This one is best used on the first map though, as it can really throw you off.

Scattered Weapons: In Combat, enemies will pick up and throw objects at you. In Predator, the environment will start pre-mined with proximity activated explosives.
Opinion: While the thrown objects aren’t a huge deal, the pre-mined predator maps can actually be a buff. You can use your disrupter early in the round to take out guys standing next to them to thin their numbers. You can also use them to draw attention if your sonic batarang is on cooldown. Just remember they are there, because you may quite often run over them while trying to escape.

BUFFS:

Replenishing Health: The player will slowly regain lost health over time.
Opinion: Best used in Predator, as you can take all the time you need to regain all your health. Also, if you’re dying in Combat, you’re probably not getting all three medals.

Takedown Projectiles: Upgrades your primary projectile weapon to knock out enemies with a single hit when thrown with the Quickfire button.
Opinion: I never used this one myself. I would just advise that you remember that they have to be quickfired and that doing a ton of damage isn’t always a good thing in Combat if you’re trying to build up your combo.

Super Powered: Gain the ability to punch through Shields, Armor, and Tasers without getting blocked. In Predator, you will move faster when crouched.
Opinion: This one is most definitely best used in Combat. While crouch walking faster is good I suppose, not having to worry about shields, etc. makes it so much easier to keep your combo going.

Free Medal: yo, Free Medal, yo.
Opinion: Never use this on the first map. I like to save it for tricky Predator medals, particularly for “Don’t Touch That Dial” which prevents you from killing the jammer guy until last. With this active, you can off that guy and get your predator vision back immediately. It’s also good for when the bastards refuse to wander over close to windows or walls.

Well, that’s all I can think of. If you guys have anything else you want me to add to the guide or want combat tips or whatever, let me know.

I've just finished this and was going to come and post a solution but there's clearly no need. Maybe just some tips for the tricky challenges could help others though. Thumbs up.

I was thinking about adding tips for individual challenges, but then realized that would be covered in the ranked gold achievement, so I focused instead on doing 3 in a row with debuffs. There are youtube videos in the other sections on how to do each predator map I think.

I just have to say that using the REC gadget on the last room of the final Campaign challenge is brilliant. I used Scattered Weapons and Danger Zones for the last challenge and just did what you mentioned, either REC-ing people off of walkways or detonating mines on folk.

Good guide, just like to add if you don't want to use the free medal buff for the jammer guys what i have been doing is using the rec then immediately using the freeze blast. At the beginning of a round it will give you a few seconds to have a look around and plan and towards the end of the round it can take them forever to free him so its just as if hes not there

an example of not restarting. i did one of the campaigns with only combat challenges and got my ass kicked on the second map but was able to turn it around.
round 1 5950
round 2 5575
round 3 6115
round 4 55125

so dont rage quit just keep going till the end and you might be able to turn it around. i was in the 80-90 range for my combo and there were about 20-25 guys on the last round. NEVER GIVE UP!!!

I would say maybe not full individual guide, but maybe talk about what mods work best for which map on the harder difficulty ones. I'm just having trouble deciding which one to try on which level.

Also be mindful of combinations of buffs and debuffs I'd say. For instance I wouldn't activate "Danger zones" and "Gadget Malfuction" at the same time since batarangs, batclaws and freeze grenades can throw armoured enemies off balance, giving you a vital window for getting out of the way or moving in for a disarm or knockdown. Like you said, plan ahead and use your buffs and debuffs wisely ;-)

good guide - fighting smarter is definitely prefered to fighting harder on these. Agree wholeheartedly with making the first map the toughest. A few extra notes - Timed combat: how much time you have left at the end of the round affects how much time you start the next round with. Protective aura: used these on predator maps when possible - once you are down to the last guy it will disappear. Agree with no rage restarts (even though i did it often). Increased agression - I think best used in predator, as most stealth takedowns negate this. Finally - Using a helpful mod along with afew negative mods can bring some balance if you are having a hard time.

Not a solution for the full achievement but I just finished predator master which had been giving me a lot of grief and i feel I've got a pretty solid way of getting it, so heres my method.

Police Brutality - I started this with time limit, tougher enemies and protective aura/Scattered weapons (switched between the two but in the end went with pro aura because it annoyed me so I prefer to get it out of the way). At the start go to the gargoyle to the right of your spawn and invert TD the guy below you. Now just just using silent TD on enemies that are alone leaving the jammer guy and maybe one other. I then used the sonic batarang to lure the other enemy under a ledge to pick up the second medal and then finally take out the jammer.

Natural Selection - On this I used only the Scattered Weapons modifier. Right at the start through a batarang at the button on the cabinet and tuck yourself into the corner, a guard will come and turn it off but he wont see you though. wait until hes walked out into the open then use silent TD on him. Grapple up to the gargoyle on the back wall, now glide down to the ammo box that is across from the bridge and place ex gel and then get back up to the gargoyle on the back wall. Use the disrupter to jam the sniper (possibly another enemy up top as they will be shooting at you soon) once a couple of enemies have gathered at the body then use drive boom to get your first medal. They will probably start shooting so use smoke to make your getaway. The chances are the sniper will currently be running to the gun crate so just use LT + X when you see the indicator come up. Thats the two hard medals out of the way so just patiently take out the rest of the room waiting for your chance to get the last medal.

End of the Line - Free medal and Danger Zones on this one. Straight away crawl into the train to the right of your spawn and go through that train and into the next and wait there for the jammer to jump down from the top of the train then use sonic BR to take him out. Run out of the back of the train and grapple up into the hole in the floor. Use the REC to knock the guard in the off the ledge to get the first medal. Now just hide in there and wait until someone uses the ladders to the left of the room your in. then go out and knock him back down for the second medal then run back the room. Now just pick the rest off. Best way I found for doing this was ice-blast, knock them over then ground TD. you can grapple up to a gargoyle and fly off of it before it explodes and get back to that room at the back. You can also use the REC to knock them off trains for an easy TD.

I hope this all made sense, any questions just ask. There are couple of extra methods suggested by perfectdozen and others in the comments.

By far the toughest one, thank you so much! Also thanks perfectdozen - your strategy on "The End of the Line" worked brilliantly. It actually worked that I saved the jammer enemy until last and missed using the REC gun to launch an enemy, but with the free medal it still worked great! Thanks again guys!

thanks man that was awesome, worked a dream, took a while to get natural selection right. but cheers again.
Personally for natural selection i left the explosive gel medal till near the end, more room to breath and easier to set it up etc. just me though!

Thanks Man, I used this method. On Police Brutality I never move that fast before. I like to take my time. BUT, On Natural Selection I screwed up. I did not put on scattered weapons on. When I got my shockwave medal and book to the vent and behind wall to get to the other side and get up to a gargoyle. I notice that there was not a lot of mines. But did not dawn on me yet until I finish it. Then when it was End of the Line. I notice Danger Zone, Scattered Weapons & Free Medal. I was not worry. In a way it kind of help me out.
NOTE# I noticed one thing about those jammers. For a example, if there was 8 guys and you took out 2 guys. If you use the rec gun on him. It goes down and he fix it when he says cover me. But if you took out half of the number of guys & shoot him it goes down permanent. It happen to me twice in Police Brutality & End of the Line. Hope this can help out some others.

I have an alternative to Predator Master that I think is easier. On Police Brutality - use Danger Zones, Time Limit and Free Medal. You need Free Medal since Danger Zones prevents the Inverted Takedown. Start by doing a Takedown through the glass ceiling to the right, grapple up - and then do your ledge takedown as one of the guys who investigates your first takedown enters or leaves that room. Make sure its not the jammer guy. That's 2 down right away, giving you a nice time buffer. Work your way over and place explosive gel on the two breakable walls - facing the windowed room entrance - you want gel on the left side of that wall - and gel on the inside of the other breakable wall. The run slide under that wall and get into the floor vents (use smoke if spotted before doing so). Use detective mode to make sure you don't blow up a wall on the backpack dude. Now methodically pick off the remaining guys with silent takedowns and your explosives, leaving the backpack guy unti last.

For Natural selection (use Protective Aura and Tough Enemies) there are a few other excellent strategies listed here already.

Now for End of the Line Extreme - the EASIEST predator map in the game. I had Scattered Weapons left on this map - start by walking forward and grappling tot he center gargoyle by the clock. Look to the guy scanning the gargoyle on the left of the room (your right once you grapple up to the vantage point). As soon as he is done scanning the gargoyle - grapple to it, equip your REC and zoom in on the top of the ladder back towards all the breakable walls. As soon as the guard climbs to the top of the ladder - hit him with the REC - two medals done.
Immediately grapple to the gargoyle over the sniper in the small room. use a sonic batarang to distract the sniper on the left as needed (don't detonate it) but when you feel the coast is relatively clear - briefly glide to the stairs on the left but drop straight down between the stairs and the train. (use smoke pellet if spotted). Now walk through the train car to the opening in the ceiling of that leads to the sniper rooom - grapple up and use the REC to blast him out the window. Now you will be in this room the rest of the time (until only the Jammer guy is left). Throw a sonic batarang at the bottom of the clock and retreat to the back of the room. Each time someone comes to investigate - use the batclaw to pull them over the railing. Any time you can - use the REC on the jammer guy to see who's left - or use remote Batarangs to survey the room. If anyone climbs on the top of a train or walkway with no railing - a fully boosted Remote Batarang can knock them to their doom as long as you get them from behind. When its down to only the jammer guy and one guard - you can detonate a sonic batarang on the last guard when he is near you - then use the gargoyles to get near the jammer guy - use the disruptor to disable his gun and glide in and take him out - making sure he is not near any proximity mines.

I have used this strategy 4 or 5 times and have NEVER had an enemy walk up into that sniper room - but if they did - a REC blast would send them packing.

thanks for the input F1XELL I've directed people to the comments but i don't see how your natural selection method differs much from mine you just got to the safe room through a different route. Also the reason i don't use danger zones and free medal until natural selection is because you spend most of you time in that safe room so don't need gargoyles, it just seems like the most appropriate map for those mutators IMO.

I'm gonna go fucking crazy trying Natural Selection. The sniper never notices his gun's jammed, and the other armored guy doesn't count for Boom Box when he stands right on top of the gel. I had two guys left once, and the game auto aims the jammer to mines.

I don't know how the sniper doesn't notice, he should try to shoot you, the gun doesn't work then he'll drop the gun and go to the crate. I'm not sure what you mean about the jammer though? If you want message me on live my gt is Gee C Squared, if you catch me when i have a spare minute i could try and talk you through it.

I used a slightly different succession for Natural Selection, leaving Boom Box to last. I started by walking towards the stairs, and grappling the gargoyle up and to the right, then grappling to the one next to me, and invert-takedown for Chaos Theory. Then, move quickly towards the balcony on your right, via the gargoyle above, to set up to batclaw the sniper when he comes back that way.

Lure at least two guys to the stairs under the mammoth tusks, and bang out the shockwave one, then run like hell to somewhere safe. If you can get to either the grates, or the vent to the back wall (and drop a smoke pellet), you are halfway there. Then, just systematically pick people off until you have one enemy left. Trap his weapon box, disable his gun, stand behind him until he turns, then run out of his way to watch him fall for your trap.

I also went with scattered weapons over aura, simply because landing the shockwave away from a mine is annoying, and you have all the time in the world after the first minute of Natural.

End of the line I was just left with "Free Medal" and "Danger Zones" ie no vantage points. I used the mines on Police Brutality because "disabling" them is a quick way of blowing up henchmen which works nicely with putting the time limit on you.

I tried the original solution for End of the line but got murked badly trying to get from carriage one to carriage two on my first attempt so thought fuck it and played my own strategy. Went left up the little stairs, into the vent to get a nice and easy quick vent takedown. Then back the way I came out hte vent and waited for someone to come then got a takedown through the plywood wall. Now that the ranks have been thinned and everyone was concentrating on that spot sneak through the carriages and grapple up to the sniper. REC him off the ledge for medal 1. Now you can camp in this room, and wait for someone to get next to a ledge and REC them off aswell. It got to two people left and I finally ventured out when the Jammer was far away from the other dude. WHich gave me medal 2 for leaving him until last. (Didnt get the ladder takedown as I have no idea which ladder the OP is referring to.

Thanks - I used this to get 9/9 medals for predator master myself. Positive vote from me.

One thing I'll add is that for Natural Selection Extreme, I think it's important to take out the sniper first. I like to pause at the beginning for the one guy going down the stairs to turn his back and then crouch past the ammo box, tag it with explosive gel, hook a left where the floor grates start, then take three rights and you are facing the mammoth. Once there, I whip out my batclaw and pull the sniper down off the bridge to get rid of him immediately. Then I backtrack to the area sort of above the ammo crate (backtrack following the floor grates), it has a hole above you can grapple to and it's surrounded by three fragile walls. There's a little window you can use to escape from this area and immediately grapple to a gargoyle. If you've done this right, you should be above everyone who is now looking at the guy you pulled down. I move to the gargoyle facing the mammoth and divebomb them for the medal - it's best to get it out of the way early while there are multiple people on the bottom floor. The rest is much easier and doesn't require much of a strategy.

For End of the Line, I managed to do this without getting on any of the gargoyles. Instead of going right, I went left and under the floor grates - there will be an armored guy right above you, and I popped out of the grate as he goes up the ladder, equipping my batclaw first and pulled him down for medal 1. Then I got back in the grate and went to the spawn point and continued in that direction while everyone was distracted by the guy I just took out. At this point, I went all the way to the area opposite of my spawn (using grates as needed for cover) to grapple up behind the stationary sniper. I froze him and used the disruptor for the other sniper just in case he saw me. Then I took out the stationary sniper by stunning him while frozen, then immediately using ground pound to take him out. Once I did that I was able to beat the level without even leaving my spot. I could REC anyone on the trains for medal 2 and anyone on the bridge I could pull off with the batclaw. I highly recommend that approach as no one can get to your spot and you can pick guys off without being in danger.

I went through all the solutions on here for the campaign challenges. I found some VERY helpful videos to follow. I tried each of the other solutions 10 times and got no where. Following these videos got me done with each one on the first try.

These are not my videos - I just found them on youtube.

I posted the Predator Master and Expert videos, the rest are on the channel.

I'm going to explain how I completed Combat Master and Predator Master, since I have a couple different strategies (and I feel, EASIER ones) for the latter.

First up, Combat Master:
-- The first map, Blind Justice XT, is by far the easiest, so you'll want to get the worst out of the way. Protective Aura is an obvious one, but One Hand Tied is also frustrating to play with, so you'll want to get that out of the way. I would alternate constantly between strikes and evading until Special Combo was up, and only counter when absolutely SURE a guy was about to strike. It's up to you to get either Scattered Weapons or Decreased Health out of the way here - I'd recommend Scattered Weapons, as you never have to deal with a Lieutenant or ninjas in this stage.

-- Gadget Malfunction is my recommended debuff on Rooftop Rumble. There are plenty of enemies for you to get really high combo counters, and getting good variation will help if you're not quite there on points - incorporate the Bat Stun, Disarm and Destroy, Multi-ground takedown, and aerial attack into each round and you should get a variation bonus of at least 8. If you can manage to only get hit by the Lieutenant just once, you'll get plenty of points in the last round.

-- This leaves Decreased Health and Super Powered for Hell's Gate. There will be plenty of guys with shields, armor, stun rods, and finally ninjas, so you don't have to worry about losing your counter to them. Personally, I get so used to doing evades and aerial attacks that I almost forget it's on.

Now, Predator Master, by far the most frustrating campaign:
-- Get as much out of the way on Police Brutality as you can. Like others, I chose Time Limit, Gadget Malfunction and Protective Aura - the latter being supremely frustrating when it would go to the guy underneath the glass at beginning or whoever I needed to do a ledge takedown on. Go to your right immediately and do the inverted takedown, then grapple to the vantage point on the right, hang, drop down, and silent TD the guy who will be facing away from you. Grapple back up, and most of the time there will be one guy isolated enough on the other side of the room (front left from spawn point) that you can drop in behind him and do another silent TD. By now, the other goons will be near the second guy you took down, so go in the small hallway with rafters (connected to spawn room by a vent) and get someone to come in there via sonic batarang. Take him down, and you should have three or four guys left (can't remember). As long as you can get them to separate, getting two goons (one being jammer-dude) left should be easy. One of them will grab the hostage, and MOST of the time it will be the jammer - if it isn't, you need to make sure to take hostage-taker out. Once two or just one guys are left, lure one of them under the area where you spawned via sonic batarang and do the ledge takedown.

-- Natural Selection: Go with Scattered Weapons. Now, since Boom Box is easily the worst medal here, I have a simple way to get it out of the way first. Once the two guys on the ground with you turn away, go over to the weapons crate, crouching on and hugging the mammoth display and bench (push all the way to the right and the mine here won't go off). Spray explosive gel, then go back the way you came (I'd recommend a quick use of the zipline to make sure the mine doesn't go off). Now, follow behind the guy on your left and jam his weapon. Said goon will move to the right a bit, then walk back to the center of the room. At this point, throw a batarang near him, wait for him to turn around (and realize his weapon is jammed), then zipline to the end of the hallway, kicking him as you go. Quickly get in the grates, and wait for said goon to go for another gun - boom, one medal down. Facing towards the center of the room, go to your right, then forward, where you can grappel into a closed off room. Exit, and go into the hallway to your left (above where we just were). Once the sniper goes to your side of the small bridge, quickly Batclaw him, sending him over the edge and into unconsciousness. Get onto a gargoyle, and when there are at least two people on the ground, dive bomb and go the ground blast (whatever it's called). I HIGHLY recommend doing this on the side of the room with the grates downstairs, because everyone will be shooting at you, and you'll want to drop smoke and run back to hide in them - otherwise, goons might start shooting gargoyles. Take out the rest of the hostiles as you see fit, and do the inverted takedown a guy with goggles (which is easy).

-- End of the Line: Danger Zones and Free Medal are your final mutators, and although they make this map harder than normal, it's still doable. As everyone has noted, the key is getting to the room on the other side of the map. Unfortunately, I don't have a great method for doing this - crouch and move quickly forward on the right side of the area. You'll get shot by a sniper ONCE, and drop smoke when you walk past the jammer guy. If you get to the tiny "vent" making an L shape in the front right from your starting point, you're good. Wait to make sure no one is around, grapple up to the room with the sniper, and launch him out with the REC - first medal down. Now, all you have to do is Batclaw anyone on the bridge in front of you, and REC anyone who gets on the subway cars. I preferred to not risk getting in trouble trying to knock anyone off a ladder, so simply make sure that whoever you're about to hit isn't the guy with the jammer (click on the right-stick for "look-zoom").

Sorry for the wall of text! I hope these help someone, because Natural Selection was more frustrating than the rest of the campaigns put together.

This guy right here, PowerPyx, helped me a lot with the Campaigns and Challenge Maps. Be sure to check his channel out if your having problems with the Combat or Predator maps.

Here's the link to his channel:

EDIT: Remember this: Research the medals on the maps your about to do in a campaign. If you add a modifier, say One Hand Tied, for Police Brutality (Extreme), you will not be able to get the medal for pulling off a Reverse Ledge Takedown, as it is considered a Silent Takedown. So plan out ahead of time which modifiers you will put on each map.

I have one useful tip for the combat so far: Increased Aggression can actually be a useful _positive_ buff.

You need to be a bit sharper at the combat, particularly counters, because the enemies are on you a bit more quickly - but because the enemies take more hits (twice as many, I think) to knock down, you get to score a lot more points, even if you break combo a little bit more often when it gets hectic on the later rounds. It's doubling the number of points scoring opportunities but keeping the number of targets the same - what's not to like about that?

So I have found it useful to use this on combat maps where survival isn't too tricky but I might be marginal for the gold on points.

I found this guide EXTREMELY useful and absolutely brillant. The most complete combat (and predator) challenge ever made.
It explains how the point systems works and how to realize combos for a ridiculous amount of points.

There are already great guides for getting this, and I used them to get the achievement yesterday. Just wanted to give a tip about combat challenges: just use the normal attack (x), evade(a,a), and then the stun beat down thing for the doors(b,a,a) run around hitting people and if they try to hit you, just evade. The points to up slowly at first but you'll soon get a high combo and each hit will give massive points. The only time I needed to use the special combo beat downs was on the armored guys (b+y). I would try using the combos right away and would barely scratch by if not fail. As soon as I started running around just punching guys, I would have 20-30 thousand extra points. Hope this helps. And if someone already stated this, then you sir or miss, I should have paid more attention to you and thank you

Campaigns are strings of 3 maps, a mix of Combat and Predator maps, for 9 medals in each campaign, and a total of 12 standard campaigns. The extra content campaigns do not count for this trophy.

The most challenging part about campaigns is that all 9 medals must be attained in a single run. You get to retry maps in a campaign up to 3 times, so if you’re feeling like your run was not up to snuff, you can retry for a better score. Note that retrying the first map doesn’t use a retry, it’s effectively the same as starting the campaign again from the Riddler’s Revenge menu, so for all intents and purposes, you have 3 retries to use for the latter 2 maps in a campaign.

Each campaign map also has modifiers make the map harder. You have to use all three in a campaign, which means if you'll be forced to use the modifiers in the final map of the campaign if you haven't used them. We would argue the best of these modifiers is the Free Medal, which is exactly what it sounds like. Pick this when you get the opportunity to on a second or third map in a campaign. We would not recommend using it on the first map, as the first map doesn’t use retries anyway and you can just keep trying to get the score you need.

PowerPyx has developed an excellent challenge maps guide, which can be seen here. That page features a list of tips and recommended challenge modifiers.

Perform well enough to unlock the Gold medal on all 12 Arkham City campaigns as Batman. To unlock these maps, you will have to collect Riddler trophies during the main game. See "Genius" for more info on those.

The campaigns are a combination of previous Combat and Predator challenges. They come in sets of three, with three medals to earn in each section for nine total in each. You have the ability to retry up to three times if you fail to get all three medals on a section, because you'll need all nine medals in one run for each.

You are also given a set of mutators that will alter the gameplay which must all be used at some point during the campaign. You can use up to three in a single section so if you feel confident about a section you can use a bunch to get them out of the way early, making a harder one down the line a little easier.
