How to unlock the Insane Co-op Star achievement in BattleBlock Theater - Definitive Guide

It's really strange that no one talked about this incredible glitch that makes this annoying achievement so much easy. There's a simple way (sure not very satisfying) to get this achievement done in relatively no time and i'll do my best to explain it.

The host has to choose a level and as soon as the level begins the host has to put himself in front of a wall or something that blocks him by proceeding in one way.
After that the other player (the partner) has to push the host against the obstacle (i.e. the wall) by constantly smashing the "x" button... the host will be pushed against the wall repetitively and, at that point, he simply has to exit the level! The host's character will bug while the other player will actually exit the match, making a countdown of 9 seconds starts... As soon as the countdown is over, the game will count the level as completed rewarding you with a "C" rank ('cause you actually "completed" it without picking up any gem).

And that's it, i know it may sound weird cause you finish the level without actually playing it, but some will find it very useful. You just have to repeat this glitch for all the remaining levels. This glitch works with every level EXCEPT THE FINAL LEVELS OF EACH CHAPTER which are the only ones you and your partner will be forced to play "legit" (i think this is because those levels are already time-based so the countdown cannot start). AND IT ONLY WORKS, of course, IN COOPERATIVE MODE.

This is a brief summary step by step:
1) The host chooses a level
2) As the level begins the host puts himself against a wall
3) The partner pushes him against the wall by simply pressing "x" repetitively
4) The host exits the level while he is being pushed against the obstacle (tips: you know when you have to exit when you see the contact between your partner's fist and th body of your character, it's just a matter of timing, just keep trying)
5) The other player suddenly "disappears" and the countdown starts
6) Level completed headspin

I add a video below, use it as a visual support to the written guide. The video has been recorded by my friend Mad Mukka using the xbox game dvr app, sorry for the bad quality.

This glitch has not been discovered by me but by my friend DoneTrash8, all credits goes to him.
If you have any question feel free to send me a private message, if you think there's something wrong don't instantly put a negative feedback but let me know, i'll do my best to correct. If you feel hurt by this solution, remember this is only one of the possible solutions, you don't need to follow it and if you want to do it legit (sure much more satisfying and rewarding) feel free to follow the guide above by Zymotic, which is pretty good toast Peace!

Two notes: the timing is pretty generous for it to work, so don't worry about being really precise. And I'd say doing the whole thing takes between 2-4 hours. Depends how familiar you are with the levels.

Can this be done split screen with an extra controller?

By Quazar9 on 30 Dec 2016 15:24
Yes i guess, but I personally suggest doing this with a friend, just because It's not easy to perform all the actions (push "x" with one controller and exit with the second one), but if you have patience I think this could be done even with an extra controller ;)

only with a friend and play online.

thanks to my friend wrote this solution in English. toast

(sorry my English. I've used google translator)

This is a bizarre glitch. Good find, but I lament the inevitable ratio drop. I did this achievement completely solo (using two controllers), so it all feels for naught now. cry

Do both people get credit for the level completion when using the glitch or only the host?

It's been a long time since i completed the game, but if i'm not wrong both people get credit for the level completion... Anyway i could be wrong, but performing the glitch is quick and easy so you wouldn't waste much time doing it again for your partner :)

Looking for someone to do World 8 with, been going through with two controllers but can't do multi tasking on 8-4.

It's tough but doable. I don't exactly remember what 8-4 is but I remember abusing the dart gun (the nerf dart that sticks to the wall)

Great solution, what a bizarre exploit. None of the finales were too difficult given a little practice and patience, finished them all solo.

Pretty easy. Note that Normal Co-Op achievement does not stack with Insane. For some reason I was expecting that it would.

I know it can be frustrating for anyone who tried to acheve it legit, but you have to admit that if this glitch was discovered a lot of time ago, no one would have complained about it. The same thing happened to me with Portal, i did all the challenges without knowing anything about a glitch that could have made my completion easier, but that's it. People who starts games later always have an advantage compared to people who starts them first, it's normal.

DO NOT LET THE TA RATIO SCARE YOU! This is actually very easy, it just takes a little practice. If you have trouble with a level you can always go back to co-op and practice an area you're having trouble with. To prepare yourself and your partner you should play and complete single-player, single-player insane, and finally co-op.

Tips:
-In some levels you can stay close to the exit and allow your partner to grab three gems to quickly finish and bypass an entire area.
-When jumping to rails always hold (RT) to automatically grip the rail.
-Time your second jump to position yourself properly where you need to land.
-Use the dart gun on walls to avoid dangerous jumps and difficult areas. There are other weapons you can use such as the frog in water, or the green bubble, but both take a lot more skill to master.

I would definitely not recommend using the frog at all in insane co-op at all unless both are pros at the game. The Acid Bubble definitely makes it a lot more possible to solo levels more so than the dart gun, but there will be levels where you can't solo (example 8-4)

Also in 8-2 at the portion where you have to put a boulder through a cloud near a fan that tries to blow you into a laser while on ice and a robot nearby, you can put a dart above the switch and put the boulder on top, you are given enough time to get back to the safest spot without having to deal with the robot as well as disappearing platforms.

Also it's best just go for the bare minimum of gems, don't bother with extras, especially the yarn ball, unless they're easy. As the saying goes, "Greed Kills." Many of times a green gem near the exit will catch your eye, which can put you into a predicament that could kill you easily, the same goes for the Golden Hat.

Thumbs down cuz the tips were VERY basic.

Yeah, they're basic but the people I played with often made these mistakes, and I also made these mistakes myself quite often. I found that perserverance was the ultimate way to accomplish insane co-op. If you have a partner who wants to quit because he/she dies 5 times in a row then you're never going to get anywhere because you will die nearly 1,000 times while playing this game.

Are there any levels that absolutely must be done with a second, actual person playing? I've "soloed" a lot so far with a second controller.

There are levels where a second person is necessary. They are the button levels and a few rock throwing levels. The majority of the levels can be done solo while another person sits and watches :P

I managed to do them all locally with a second controller. Took some tough coordination with both hands (and trickery with the dart gun, the frog, the bouncy ball, and abusing spike block hitboxes), but it CAN be done by yourself and a second controller.

May I ask is the achievement to get the grade 'A' in each level or simply just to complete each level?

You just have to complete each level.

In normal you die and respawn from checkpoint and in hardcore you die and have to start the level over.

Just got this achievement and I have to say we did a lot of "cheating" with the dart gun and only having one person get to the end. Most of the levels were only completed with C grade, but thankfully that works. I wouldn't say this achievement is "very easy" at best I'd say it's "very doable." Easily the best method is to play 2 player on the same xbox so you don't have the messed up lag killing you all the time.

I also need a co-op partner. I've played next to nothing on this game so it might take me some time to get the controls / gameplay. If you have patience and want to do this, send me a FR on Xbox Live.

Did all the levels with a second controller. First couple chapters I did with a friend, but I know I could have done them with a second controller.

Thanks! It was probably 8-4, but I felt it was easier doing co-op controlling two controllers instead of doing it solo. =P

8-4 was a nightmare doing it alone but I finally got through it. The far right portion of the map where there's lasers and buttons to stand on was the worst, but I eventually got through it by abusing the pause button.

This will likely be the most difficult achievement in the game. If either player dies it's game over. However only one player needs to reach the exit to complete the stage, if the other player dies or times out after the other player has reached the exit the stage will count as complete. Completing the game on Co-op normal then moving onto insane with the same partner if possible would be a good way to get familiar with the Co-op mechanics and levels. Good communication would also be helpful for completing these as painlessly as possible. Use the Achievement Trading Thread to find people to play with online.

As in Solo Insane Mode, the Acid Bubble is extremely useful and will often allow one player to traverse obstacles that would otherwise require a co-op action. In some places however throws, grabs and up attack pushes will be necessary to proceed. Jumping on top of the other player's will act as a platform, this will work when they are climbing or in the air. As only one player needs to reach the exit, some levels can be made much easier by having one player stay behind at a switch or an inactivated exit.

Co-op mode has some additional challenges related to the design of the game. In both online and local play, the screen will zoom out as the players get further apart, making it harder to see. However you will often not want to stay close to your partner, as players impacting each other will very commonly lead to death. In online play exclusively there are problems with lag. It will often be lethal for the joining player to pick up rocks, so plan to have the host do all the heavy lifting. Sometimes lag can get more severe to the point where co-op actions won't work properly, the joining player will fall through lifts, and weapon-tools will activate late to the point of being useless. If this starts happening it could be a good time to take a break or reset your router, nothing is more frustrating than a good run ruined by the game glitching out.
