Correct. In the event you die, and you continue the game (not starting a brand new game) , the lantern will no longer be there but rather at the location of where you previously died. You can pick up all the inventory from that body incl your lantern.

That is actually the solution for the achievement Lost & Found. This one relates to the first time you acquire the lantern.

The lantern is located at the top of the island just North after scaling the cliffside once you reach the shores for the first time.

In case you need a little more help for the game in general, the below is a guide to walk you through some basics of the game and things to look out for in the floors:

Let’s start with campfires, and the various options you will see when you start. When you land on the shore for the first time, a campfire will be located to the Northeast. Once lit, the fire allows for resting and crafting without your survival stats dropping. The Top option allows for crafting, which is the only way to combine food items into bottles. You can also change armor and weapons as well as combine tool items together, though this can also be done anywhere outside campsites. With enough light crystals (25), a Left option will appear to create a blue fire and allow for a fast travel to this location from any other campsite. Once used, the campsite breaks down for the rest of the run. If you make it to another campsite, the Right option allows for travel to the blue campfire. Lastly, once you open the Pocket via story progression, the Bottom option to sleep will allow fast travel to the Pocket and back to the same campfire freely.

Now for equipment. Every wanderer starts with the sword and shield as well as the bow. Other weapons and armor are lost on death and must be reclaimed or repurchased. Weapons like the spear allow for fishing, the Hammer opens doors, and others are straight upgrades to the originals. You can block, parry, and jump attack for some examples of advanced moves. Your ability to use these weapons correctly is directly correlated with your survival. The lantern is a key item that persists on death at the location of each dead Wanderer. You can activate the lantern by pressing LB which will output some light, slowly consume light crystals, and reveal traps with red outlines. It can also be focused by holding LB to open doors, access Light Bits with enough light crystals in your inventory or see further into rooms.

Crafting. You can find several types of items lying about in the world, all are randomly generated between runs. Embers, Sticks, Shards, and Strings form basic ingredients- all of which can be combined with three of the same items to make advanced components to make improved tools or arrows. Leather, Blood Moss, and Sludge are typically used for bandage items to recover lost health and stop bleeding or arrows. Mushrooms and Foods create a wide array of potential elixirs and meals to improve stats or recover hunger.

The Layout. Every floor is organized with a persistent arrangement of rooms, yet each room is randomly generated each run (maintaining persistent entry and exit points). Shortcut rooms, basement rooms, and transition rooms will still maintain their structure, but items dropped to the ground during a run are lost on death. The Pocket is a side room accessible by every campfire to store items persistently between runs once unlocked for the first time between Floor 2 and 3. Every marble donated inside the Pocket increases storage in a specific order: item storage, armor storage, food storage, weapon storage (and so on). Getting to the bottom alone is not the end of the game, as you need to collect Light Bits for your lantern hidden across the Floors for the true ending.

Traps and Survival. Some traps early in the dungeon are instant death and only discovered as such the hard way. The lantern can reveal a red border to these traps, and they can be triggered with an attack. Spikes will pop up when touched by both the player, player attacks, and enemies, tripwires will impede movement or throw you off cliffs if dodging or sprinting through them, and of course cold, hunger, or thirst dropping to zero will deplete your health until death. Some enemy attacks will cause bleeding (red portion of health that drains away over time) that can be recovered with bandages if used in time. Elixirs can improve abilities for a limited time and add slight amounts to hunger or thirst. Eating foods from animals or plants will recover your hunger level, combining them into different meals with a water bottle at a campfire will increase their efficiency. Standing water can be used to drink and fill the thirst level as well as fill any empty bottles for water to be used later. Standing next to a fire will recover your cold level if you are in a frozen environment.

The Achievements. Most are straightforward story progressions that only require all the Light Bit collectables for total completion. Some weapons are needed to open secret passages or to counter enemy types. Marbles are not required but add to the available storage space in the Pocket, allowing for easier subsequent runs and are highly recommended. Armors and helms are totally optional; however, some enemies have one-hit-kill moves that armor can protect against (once) and helms have passive buffs to improve your survivability, so each are recommended but not required.

Here’s the rundown on what you’re looking for on each floor and a link to a floor map:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nbt9zr178ww1hxz/below_map-working-...

Most likely this will be your first achievement. We sail to the island, go up and further closer to the center of the island this miracle rests.
