How to unlock the Is There Anyone Else? achievement in Darksiders II - Definitive Guide

Hey all, I just 1000'd the game and would like to share my strategy for the Crucible with all of you, as it is probably the most challenging achievement in the game (since it is like a Soul Arbiter's maze on steroids).

Obviously SPOILERS below.

This will primarily concern going through waves 1-100 in one sitting since if you want to beat the Crucible boss, Wicked K (and there is an achievement for doing so), you need to accomplish this.

First of all, wait until New Game+ to do this, since there is a level cap of 22 on your first playthrough and you need to be level 25 to unlock waves 75-100. Also, and this should be a no-brainer, drop the difficulty down to Easy. For this reason I did my first playthrough on Apocalyptic so I could drop it down to Easy immediately upon starting NG+. On easy, I was able to complete the Crucible at level 25 (although getting to 30 first would certainly make it easier) without too much trouble. This took me a little under two hours.

As you will soon see, it is all about the crit, and I did it using a strength/Harbinger build. Necro is viable, but I have no experience with it so you will need to look elsewhere or respec. Sorry!

For weapons, it is almost required to have a weapon with health/wrath steal, because it will allow you to get through almost all waves without using potions (as an example, I only used potions on waves 92, 95 and 100). You also want to stack crit chance and damage. For example, my weapon was a set of level 23+5 possessed scythes called Last Rites (because I am a boss at giving weapons cool Death-fitting names) with the following stats:

Damage: 188-214
Critical Chance: +26%
Critical Damage: +30%
Health on Crit: 51
Health Regen: 113

In retrospect, ditching the health regen for more health on crit would have been better, but this gives you an idea of my setup.

My secondary weapon was a purple armblade setup that had wrath on crit and increased crit chance. You can use a possessed set and level these attributes if you want a really fast way to grab a shitload of wrath.

For armour, I used two pieces of the Abyssal set (that you get from collectible quests) and other pieces that maxed crit chance and damage. If you don't have all the collectibles, just stack crit chance/damage.

You will have a much easier time if you have finished the 'Sticks and Stones' collectible quest as you can trade in stone combos for permanent +2% Crit Chance or +10% Crit Damage. I believe I did 6 crit chance combos and 5 crit damage combos. That +12% chance / +50% damage stacks with everything else across everything, and is huge. Also, If you collected all the Ostagoth relics and completed the sidequests, you will have a number of extra skill points for your build, as I show below.

By the time I was outfitted, I had approximately 60% crit chance and +375% crit damage. Critting almost every other strike really brings the pain and the health steal will keep you topped up for a long time.

For builds, I had full Harbinger as my gear was strength focused, but I have heard that if you stack Arcane/Arcane crit abilities, the Crows turn into a death machine. Either way, stacking crit is by far the most important

My build was full Harbinger, with (All Maxed):
Teleport Slash/ Immolation/ Unending Fury/ Death Blossom/ Inescapable/ Rage of the Grave

Unstoppable/Inevitability/Empowerment/Call of the Grave

Teleport Slash, combines with the health on crit steal and the increased crit chance from its tree, will give you a _lot_ of health back. Unstoppable, when popped, will give you an extra 40% crit damage and 20% crit chance, and will murder most early waves incredibly fast.

As for the waves themselves, I used an excellent guide that details exactly which enemies you will face and gives you some basic strategy:

http://segmentnext.com/2012/08/17/darksiders-2-crucible-mode...

With my build, waves 1-69 or so were no trouble. Pop unstoppable and go to town. If you need some room, dash away and hit a few teleport strikes to bring the hurt and fill up your health. To get wrath, use Redemption (the pistol) a few times or pull out the armblades/secondaries with wrath steal (if you have them, if not, the pistol should be fine).

Waves 70-100 are more difficult because of the enemy combos. Read the guide for more. Watch for wave 75 (the Deposed King) - that spin attack is dangerous. If you have completed the game, you are familiar with the Maelstroms you encounter in Shadow's Edge (the red liches that shoot a 5-combo fireball at you). These are very dangerous because of the extremely high burst damage they do (even on easy) and because potions give you a HoT rather than a burst heal - the fireballs can overwhelm the potions and kill you, especially if you are frozen or stunned (wave 70 or especially 73). You only encounter them a few times, but when you know they are coming up, pop unstoppable before they spawn and hit them with a couple teleport slashes to kill them fast. On wave 92 (where you encounter two of them and where I almost died because of the burst damage) I had to pop Reaper form.

For wave 100 (endgame boss), just spam teleport strike, stay away from him and use as many potions as you need to to survive. Once you beat him you unlock Wicked K (who in my opinion was easier - I killed him in 5 Teleport Slashes using the same build/weapons)

Note that once you do beat wave 100, you can leave and re-enter and still have access to Wicked K as an option from the Arena Master's dialogue wheel when you select which wave to start from. Also, you need the deathgrip to get to Wicked K after the pathway opens up, so rush the Foundry to do so (I did not and had to spend 90min doing Lost Temple/Foundry - not fun!).

Good luck all - it is hugely satisfying to know you beat this test of endurance!

I can't believe more people haven't mentioned dropping the difficulty down to Easy, though that might seem obvious. After beating the game on my second run (Apocalyptic) I reloaded my last save, bumped down the difficulty, and begun the Crucible. The only time my health even went down more than a centimeter was wave 73 (?) and 99. It REALLY helps to be able to restore health with your melee attack.

Great guide. Also great comment, saves me asking about last save, don't wanna have to potentially start over for dlc in future.

I've been looking for answers on a few things, but it's still unclear.

First, when you start NG+, what do you start with? Do you keep all your equipment? What about collectibles not already turned in? Or do they reset?

Do crucible levels already unlocked stay unlocked? I.e., on New Game + do you have to complete story quests to unlock levels 1-3, or is it enough to just do NG+, get to level 25, and then be able to access all 4 levels of the crucible? Do you have to play through the story on NG+ to reach areas that were unlocked on the first play-through? If I beat the game, can I continue *without* NG+?

Basically, I've done everything except the crucible and the maze (so I'm missing one Mystic stone). I'm playing on Apocalyptic. Haven't entered the well yet. Trying to figure out if I should do the maze now, on Apocalyptic. Or if I could beat the game, and do it on Easy either in NG+ or just "continuing" after the end?

Okay, this is getting annoying. I am lvl 30, and I started from the beginning in the Crucible. Then I beat everything till wave 75 and I get a chest and it says that I have to leave, I can't continue... How is this possible? I know Waves 75-100 are unlocked once you reach level 25, BUT I AM ALREADY 30! What can I do? I tried this twice! :(

@Wyndo - just to answer some of your questions;
1. When you start a NG+ you keep all of your weapons and equipment from your first playthrough. Not sure about the collectibles as I turned them all in before completing my Normal playthrough so that I could use the stones to upgrade my stats ready for Apocalyptic. What I would say is that I had my boatman coins still on my NG+
2. Not sure about the crucible as I haven't attempted it yet (still on apocalyptic), but you have to play through the story again to unlock/reach the areas again.
3. Again, I would do the maze to be sure and not take the chance on if the collectibles come with you on NG+ unless someone can confirm if the stones/pages come with you.

stones and pages dont come with you but you can refuse NG+ and be put bk outside well and be able to do any remaining side quests so you could drop difficulty and do harder quests as you will have all difficulty achievements already. You can then re fight boss and then go to NG+.

Thanx for guide btw was going well then my game froze on me im glad i was only on level 20 though hopfully i cn get through the 100 later.

@General Joury I think you may have not picked up all the items from the serpent stone by accident check in your quest inventory and see if you have the fool, the emperor, strength and the devil in quest items. You may just be missing the devil which means you dont have access to the last levels. If you missing it re check offline mail and it should be there.

Great guide, completely agree with the recommendations re using possessed weapons and maxing crit chance, crit damage and health on crit. The ice damage suggestion from ninja277 worked very effectively for me too. Overall I had around 80% crit chance and +250% crit damage, and I breezed through, the only thing that gave me a bit of trouble were the Maelstroms. But teleport slash makes pretty quick work of them and most of the boss level characters too when combined with the crit boosts.

health steal is waaaay more beast than health on crit. Increase your crit chance and health steal and you will be unstoppable.

Anyone know if you can beat your NG+ on Apocalyptic, drop the difficulty to Easy, and still get the Crucible and Wicked K achievements? I know these two aren't difficulty specific but I'd imagine something among the lines of achievements being voided by lowering difficulty.

Great solution! You don’t need to complete all 100 waves in one sitting as you receive checkpoints after every 25 waves. Critical chance and critical damage are extremely important.

I am having an issue. I am playing through my new game + to get the final achievements. I reached level 30, completed the crucible, and defeated Wicked K but none of the achievements popped.

I have tried clearing the cache, updating the game, and beat Wicked K several times none of which resolved my problems. I also contacted THQ but have little faith in them to fix the problem given how the oldest posts on their website were 3 years old.

Has anyone encountered this issue or have any ideas on how to resolve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@IL1971 WIth the correct build this can be done in about 45-50 minutes on apocolyptic no doubt.

Also to putting crit or damage+ on your offhand weapon (unless thats i the one you plan on using mostly) is a waste because the offhand weap and scythes do NOT share crit% or damage%.So it is best to do overall abilities such as resistance, defense, strength or arcane.

For the scythe I STRONGLY urge anyone to consider putting ICE DAMAGE on the scythes as this accomplishes two things, One it benefits from the +crit and +damage modifiers as your melee strikes do . SO a simple +80 ice damage (doesnt sound like much) can hit for 400 or so after all is said is done. Second it freezes enemies who like to block and are major Pains in da arse otherwise. I have not tried all the elementals but I can not imagine any being better than ICE DAMAGE (this is different than frost BTW).

Final tip for anyone attempting this is the most amazing move inthe game ... it is a boss destroyer . I usually teleport slash to get in close followed by A+X (at the same time) and then X+RB (at the same time) while in midair. You should do a spinning slash with your scythes and rain down the damage. Most all enemies you can kill before they even come out of the ground,it really is a broken attack because it is so powerful.

Hope this info helps someone. GReat info here otherwise Chimera36 was gonna post a guide but not needed.

Just a heads up, you do not need to complete all 100 waves in one sitting without dying.
For advice on builds/weapons/specific waves, check the other guides with in-depth info. There is nothing to add there.

I tried the crucible on level 25 on apocalyptic and was killed on wave 100 (duh). When I came back after I beat the game with lower difficulty and talked to the crucible master, something along the lines of "I choose my own path/way" could be chosen. The options are Wicked K, waves 26-50, 51-75, 76-100. I chose the last option, beat the last 25 waves and got the achievment. Same goes with

I wanted to write a guide where I tell the players that there are like three checkpoints in the crucible (25-50-75) but I have seen that you have already written something similar, so well done and all I can do is give you a thumbs up!

Best to wait until you max your level for this one. Use all your best defensive gear, and try to equip scythe/secondary weapons that can both hit for lots of damage and also give you either wrath/health to minimize your dependency on using your potions, which you'll want to save for the harder levels toward the end of the crucible (when I got this achievement I didn't use a potion before wave 75, but I ended up having 2 health and 2 wrath potions left over after beating the crucible and wicked K, so obviously you might be able to get away with using potions before wave 75 if you have confidence in your dodging ability.

Personally, I found it easiest to simply keep your wrath up with your pistol and the occasional melee combo, while throwing in the occasional Teleport Slash to regain lost health and hit for massive damage on the heavy enemies. Kind of a repetitive/monotonous way to fight, but it was an effective way to retain most of my health and ultimately got the job done. It took me around 4 tries to beat it, including one deflating loss at wave 99 (probably the hardest wave btw...don't hesitate to use those health potions and wrath potions to keep it a ranged battle. he can kill quickly.) so don't get frustrated if you fail a few times, because you will ultimately earn some awesome gear for beating waves 25, 50, and 75 that may prove useful in finishing the crucible.

Is the crucible affected by your difficulty setting? Is it possible to beat the game on Apocalyptic then lower the difficulty to go through the crucible?

By Ganluan on 20 Aug 2012 13:32
Hmm, I didn't try it myself (beat the game once on Apocalyptic, then went back through the game in a New Game + until I hit level 30 and could score some good random elite weapons from Vulgrim (you can dashboard before saving if he gives you bad gear, just make sure to save prior to making your purchases). It's definitely doable on Apocalyptic, but not easy by any means...but I figure that lowering the difficulty would work since the only difficulty-rated achievements are the campaign ones, based on the descriptions they give.

I'd be. Curious about this one as well. My friend says you can have the options the game ends to go back through and finish side quests / etc (not New Game + mode). Perhaps it would be possible after you nab the Apocalyptic difficult achievements to do as yoga Nina says and then lower it to easy? Has anyone else tried this yet? What difficulty were you on yoga ninja?

Good question. The crucible is composed of 4 seperate portions, each one containing 25 different waves comprised of different enemy types that increase in difficulty as your wave count gets higher and higher. I believe that you can get this achievement, the one for beating the crucible, by simply beating each of the 4 levels on different occasions (not in one sitting). However, if you beat all 4 portions of the crucible (all waves 1-100), which is what I did, you will be invited to fight Wicked K after wave 100 and you get a separate achievement for beating him down in a relatively easy battle (compared to wave 99, at least...that's the wave to watch out for and spam your wrath abilities and potions). Hope that helps!

I played through both my first and second (New Game + Mode) games on Apocalyptic. I bet it will let you knock the difficulty down to easy for this achievement, but I enjoyed the challenge on Apocalyptic and it sure felt good to beat the whole thing in one sitting and get to fight Wicked K as well, knowing that I played it on the hardest difficulty aside from nightmare mode.

Oh, and just a heads up to all you folks that haven't completed the game yet, as Slider257 said there is an option at the end of the game to start a New Game + from the beginning of the story missions, or you can go back to the game to finish up your collectibles and other side quests - just be aware that if you choose to go to that New Game + mode then you will lose ALL of your collectibles (pages, relics, soundstones, gnomes) as well as have to redo each and every side mission that you finished up in your first playthrough. Best to strategize early and decide whether you want to try for 100% completion the first time around, or wait for that new game + like I did.

Hi all,

I just finished this and wanted to give a heads up for those players who played on easy/normal for their first run, and did Apoc on their second (crucible) run.

Some waves can be tough on Apoc but there is NO NEED to put yourself through this. Instead, wait until you have finished the game and defeated the end game boss in the Well Of Souls. This will pop the 'A True Horseman' achievement and when done just head to the options tab in the pause menu and lower the difficulty to easy. Then go and breeze through the crucible :)

First of all, I will give a few suggestions for easier completion...

-1. Get to at least level 28 or so.
-2. Complete the Sticks and Stones side quest. This will give you stones that you can turn in for increases to a multitude of attributes (See Solution for "All You Can Eat Buffet").
-3. Get the Abyssal Armor. Get the 2 abyssal armor pieces that are not Crucible related first. The first is found by breaking the pots in the 4th Vulgrim death tomb (See Solution for Abracadabra), and the second is for returning all the relics to Ostegoth. The remaining 2 Abyssal armor pieces are prizes for completing level 50 and level 100 in the Crucible.
-4. MOST IMPORTANT, make weapons with Health Steal. This is VITAL for survival.

The primary weapon that I used was a pair of Possessed Scythes and have the following characteristics:
Health Steal - +30%
Ice Damage - 61
Critical Chance - +32%
Arcane - 77

The secondary weapon that I used was a Possessed Glaive with the following:
Health Steal - +28%
Shock Damage - 81
Critical Chance - +30%
Arcane - 72

My Skills were maxed out in the following Skill Trees (all adjacent attributes included) for the following effects:

Harbinger:
Teleport Slash - Used Primarily for Healing
Harvest - Used when surrounded by multiple enemies
Unstoppable - Increases Strength, Crit. Chance/Damage

Necromancer:
Frenzy: @493 Arcane, Deals 1067 damage per projectile (approx 10 projectiles).

Once combined with the three early pieces of the Abyssal Armor (not including the one from Crucible level 100) and a good talisman, my weapon stats were as follows:

Primary Weapon:
Damage per second - 4091
Critical Chance - 105%
Critical Damage - +130%

Secondary Weapon:
Damage Per Second - 4528
Critical Chance - 103%
Critical Damage - +130%

With Health Steal on both weapons and every hit being a critical hit, you gain approximately 400-500 points of health PER HIT...essentially making you invincible.

NOTE: If you leave/die between levels 26-50, you can restart at 26...levels 51-75 start at 51, and levels 76-100 restart at level 76.

As is stated in other solutions, I found the trickiest levels were levels 70-75, and 90-95...primarily because you can become quickly overwhelmed (especially with the Maelstroms shooting fireballs...Kill these first!).

If there are suggestions on improving this solution, please comment or leave message.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Requires the Crucible Online Pass
To participate in the Crucible you must first redeem a Crucible pass that comes with every new copy of Darksiders 2. If you rented the game or bought it second hand you can purchase the code on the PSN. Once you have done so you need to complete the Dust to Dust trophy before you are "formally invited" to do the first stage of it. You will be notified via a tome sent to you that you can participate.*

Don't forget that you must take the Fool card out of the tome in order to enter and fight in the first stage. The following two stages are unlocked after you obtain the Soul Crushing and It's Not Over trophies, with the final stage unlocking at level 25. Like the first card that unlocked the first stage of the Crucible, the Emperor, Strength and Devil cards must be removed from the tome to do their respective stages. Once the card is in your inventory it will stay with you forever, even into New Game+.

There is a total of four stages, consisting of 100 total waves, or 25 waves per stage. In order to do all 100 waves and complete the crucible you must first hit level 25, which requires you to have beaten the game once and continue on New Game+.

The best way to fully clear the Crucible efficiently and with the least amount of trouble, is to hit level 30 and set it to Easy difficulty. Just be sure not to change it to Easy until you no longer need any of the difficulty trophies.

Important Facts:

  • You do not need to beat it in one sitting to get the trophy.
  • After you beat 25 waves you can begin from the next stage. You do not have to repeatedly clear all waves. So if you beat waves 1-25 (Stage 1) then go play the main quest, you can come back and start at Wave 26 (Stage 2).
  • To unlock wave 101 and fight Wicked K for the Bravo Old Chap trophy you must clear waves 1-100 in one sitting, without dying or restarting. It will remain unlocked just like every other stage.
  • The Crucible does not give EXP for killing creatures, so you can't use it to grind any levels.
  • Difficulty settings directly affect how hard the crucible is.

To access the first group of waves you need to defeat the Guardian (see the "Ashes to Ashes" trophy), for the second and third you need to defeat Samael and Wailing Host, for the fourth you need to level up to level 25.

They don’t give you experience on the waves; you won’t be able to upgrade in the process.

I passed it after finishing the game + level 30, setting the difficulty to easy, and then I almost lost on the Deposed King, having relaxed. And yes, any scythes with vampirism are welcome, also to make the battle easier, kill strong opponents while they appear, at this moment they are defenseless and do not resist.

Crucible at level 30 is just basic. After completing the task Sticks and Stones, I pumped up the maximum critical chance (+24%) + the chance from the things I was wearing, I got 90%, that is, 9 out of 10 hits were critical. I also tried to wear things + crit damage. It turned out to be about +200%. I also upgraded the possessed weapon to “closed health” + “cold”. In this situation, almost all ordinary mobs were taken out with one hit, stronger mobs were frozen in two or three hits and taken out without problems. Bosses were also frozen for a maximum of 5 hits. Completed the entire Crucible in about 50 minutes without spending a single can without any problems in relaxation, health did not drop below 90%.

I will add according to the tactics described above.
On wave 99 it is better to use the reaper form, and at the end there will be a couple of waves with thick fiery enemies that run up and explode - you need to run from them, you can shoot with a revolver, because... Regardless of the presence of vampirism, if everything explodes nearby they can kill.

I advise you to go through the crucible only after reaching level 30. I didn’t have any difficulties with the skills and equipment that I’ll describe below, and I passed without spending a single bottle.

The main weapon, level 30 scythes, were upgraded to gain health on a crit (72 points), gain health on a kill (180 points), probability of execution 51%, shock damage (damage is small, but effective against some opponents). The second weapon was spider fangs that sucked life out of enemies and added to their death (the damage was small, but the speed protection very quickly replenished the lost health). All armor had good protection and resistance indicators, and also added the likelihood of physical crit and its strength. The talisman added 18% chance of execution and 520 life replenishment when using execution.

The fully pumped up skills Unstoppable (greatly increased damage and the likelihood of a crit) and Harvest (effective against a large concentration of small creatures + added a decent amount of Reaper energy) were very useful, and the pumped up Exhumation was also useful for distracting opponents.

For complete passage of 1-100 waves. It took me a little over an hour and a half. Don't forget that in order to get to 101 you need the Death Grip skill.

So the passage is very simple, first, complete the side quest “Sticks and Stones” and collect all the stones that the Construct requests from you. For this we get the Scythes of Crete. Damage. +300. Next, you must definitely level up to 25-30lvl, otherwise it will be very difficult. When equipping your Death, try to choose more pluses for critical damage, as well as protection. On extra It is advisable to set the weapon to “health per kill” - it will be very useful. Personally, yesterday I had 25 lvl for a new game +, using this tactic I reached wave 67 without scratches and with 5 potions, I didn’t go any further because I hadn’t received a death grip yet, and in theory at the end I wanted to kill the skeleton that was after wave 100 will.

PS: I passed, starting from 85 there can be difficulties, so I strongly advise everyone to take possessed gloves with fast damage as a second weapon (no matter whether the damage is strong or not) and pump up vampirism on them to at least 65, as a result, with one hit with those gloves you will hit the enemy get more than half the health scale - result: you are almost immortal, I would call this a kind of cheat)

I did this:
1 - First I completed the game on the “Normal” level, and then New Game+.
2 - I got to Lvl 30 and collected all the “Books of the Dead” - thereby opening all the tombs and putting on the “Infernal Armor”.
3 - And I passed “The Crucible” with ease - the first time there was no difficulty.
4 - The scythe should be Preferably "Black Death" - it is in the Labyrinth of the Judge of Souls on the 5th floor.
5 - We pass the Crucible and get the Trophy and weapons of this person.
