How to unlock the Sunday Driver achievement in DiRT Rally 2.0 - Definitive Guide

Not as hard as it looks, I even got better results than on usual driving with aids on, just couple of tips.
1. You can do it in any race within RX championship in free play tab so pick you favourite track and skip races till you reach it, for me Hell, Norway is easiest.
2. You can drive all 5 pre races on any settings you like, just switch all aids off for final 6th race (manual sequential gearbox is enough), set AI to 100 and change camera to cockpit (any of 3 cockpit cameras will do).
3. I used Audi S1 with settings from below video, just tweaked all settings from Diff and Damping 1 click less than on video and final Gearing on 200.

Hope this helps

edit:
It looks you may need drive with 100 difficulty all 6 races, some people report changing settings just for last race doesn't work.

I used the exact same car and settings as in the video. Worked perfectly! Semifinals and final is on a wet road surface but without rain, opponents don't even come close.

Changing the difficulty in the final didn't work for me. It gave me a message about the difficulty change will take effect in the next event and they still ran as slow as always in the final and no achievement. Also do you know if it has to be the official FIA World Rallycross Championship in Free Play or will a Custom Championship setup work?

you just need to win the final race. doesn't matter if you win the event. i didn't win the event and was a little scared of not getting it.

Yes but u still need to win 4 qualifiers and a semi final on 100 difficulty before u get a shot at the finals. I'm also curious, is this unlocked in the official FIA WRC (bottom left) or in a Freeplay custom championship (top middle)?

Difficulty is Event-specific. If you start an Event with a certain Difficulty setting, changing it won't take effect until the next location. Therefore, you should switch to 100 AI Difficulty before you move to the next location.

Also, to confirm: This is only unlockable in the FIA World Rallycross Championship game mode.

To be clear - does it has to be RX cars group or can it be any other, like Super 1600?

The World RX mode contains only the RX Supercars Class.

In a future update it will also contain the RX Supercars 2019 Class, once all of the RX19 cars have been released.

Had a few goes of this and cannot get anywhere near the final. The AI is very brutal, if they want to take the joker and you are in the way you best go and take the joker as they will just plough through you. I have not struggled so much in dirt games previously using a controller but I think this one may have me beat. Shame as its the only achievement left on this game for me to get

Does bonnet cam work in this achievement as it did on the one in the main game?

The AI must be on 100 all the time but you can wait with the assists until you reach the finale. Hell is definitely your choice here. They suck at the turn down the hill and the following two corners before the hill to the goal. Good luck.

So I was doing this today, I made it to through the qualifiers in 11th, then won the semi's and the finals... but at the results screen it put me in fourth?! How does that make sense?

Edit** nevermind I Just saw an earlier comment saying event rank doesn’t matter, Just get the win. that being said, I still haven’t unlocked this and I won the final with all assist off and on the hardest setting the entire 6 races. Is this glitched? Or do I have to put it in manual and turn all the assists off before the first race?

This achievement isn't as bad as I first thought.

Kristoffersson’s Polo R was the car I used. Used the tune in the video in the 2nd solution. Hell, Norway is the track I used.

Difficulty to 100 and Hardcore Damage on MUST BE SET well ahead of the event. Changing it at the event screen will not work.

I used some assists in qualifying. To be safe, I did the Semi Final and Final in cockpit view, with no assists, in manual sequential (which wasn't very hard to learn).

You NEED to be able to consistently get under 38.000 second laps on this course to have a shot of qualifying and reaching the final. The final is the easiest part actually. Don't be afraid to RESTART as often as you need. For the 3rd qualifying, I must've restarted 10 times just to make sure I got a really good time.

You can’t do this in Freeplay>Custom (at least it did not pop for me in custom championship).

I did it in Freeplay>FIA World Rallycross Championship and skipped (Retire Event) all the way through the 5th event which is Hell. Even on the hardest difficulty the AI has a hard time in the second to last corner so it’s a little bit easier on that track.
Also expect heavy rain. I reloaded it like 6 times and it did not change the weather.

I used Kristoffersson’s Volkswagen Polo R Supercar (it’s the first option in the RX Supercars class). It drives well especially with the tune shown in the previous solution above.

[just a little side note: I tried to do it using 2019 RX Supercars because the 208 WRX turned out pretty good in Yas Marina when I was doing the 39-second achievement but in this class the AI was harder to beat so I let that go.]

I had everything Off the whole time except Shifting I had that on automatic, I only turned it to Manual Sequential in the service area just before the Final event.
Hardcore damage was On, it does not affect the achievement.
Unexpected events were On although I don’t think it has anything to do with it either.

Most important: if you are not satisfied with your time just restart. I kept getting 14th and I was like ‘next race I’ll do better’. I did not. Ended up not qualifying for Final, had to start everything all over, skip until Hell things like that. So RESTART it saves you time.

I used a lot of handbrakes before every corner.
Also I found it faster to take the Joker lap on the last lap. Almost all opponents take it on their 1st lap so you don’t have to deal with them you can just drive and focus on your lap. I was always 4-5 seconds faster than the 2nd so I did not really have to worry about them this way.
Used the camera where you can barely see any exterior, only the red dot that shows you when to shift.

For the Final:
If you are bad at shifting just try to keep them behind since time doesn’t matter here.
Flashing red dot helps A LOT.
Joker on last lap, until then win time, get away from opponents a little.

Hope it helps. It is easier than it looks and I can say that because I suck.

- What the fuck about this achievement? Yesterday I won the final as the solution describes (second in the overall ranking, 24 points). No achievement. Today I win the final as the solution describes (first in the general, 27 points). No achievement. I am very upset, this game is a buggy crap, full of paid DLC angry angry angry

Edit:
I tried it a third time and it unlocked. This time I tried something different. This time I used the cockpit view also in the semifinal (in the final race too). It worked for me this third time rock

Yep, game likes to do that. It has a bug where achievements don’t unlock on certain days. I had the same problem with other achievos. No matter how many times I completed requirements it just did not unlock. Most of the time it unlocked when I did it the next day but there was one I had to actually do like 4 times on 4 different days for it to finally unlock. It sucks.

I got this one by setting up a new FIA World Rallycross championship in freeplay and set the difficulty at 100 and Hardcore Damage enabled and Unexpected moments was also on.

I used Kristoffensen's VW as i like the car and he's also one of the fastest, meaning i didn't have to beat him!

Hell, Norway is definitely the easiest track so i retired from all 4 events before it and got straight to Norway.

I did all 4 qualifiers and semi finals with AI 100, Hardcore damage on (unchanged from start of championship), but i had the assists on for exterior cameras, semi-automatic gears. managed to get through as 2nd qualifier to Loeb.

At the pit before the final, i changed the assists to all off and Manual-sequential. Won the final and 1st overall on points (not sure if that matters) but it unlocked.

In addition to natchnatty's guide, I tried to cross-reference the different guides to try something and it worked. So here is how I just unlocked it:

For qualifiers
I used all assists off (because I used to), hardcore damage on, but with automatic transmission and exterior view.

For the semi-final
Same settings for the race but just before the end I switched on manual transmission and cockpit view (in the last turn in my case, I had a certain lead over my opponents and I had time to be sure I had chosen the right view).

For the final
Logically in the pit, you don't have to touch anything, just start the race.

Personally, I managed to dominate the qualifiers and the semi-final (thanks to the automatic transmission and the camera). Maybe you should consider yourself ready for the final on manual if you are and start in first place like I did at that point, meaning you know the track and how to deal with it. Starting first may allow you to lead the whole race if you manage the start and the first turn. If not, start again and take the joker lap when everyone else has already done so (probably the 4th or 5th lap).

In this race, you may only have to navigate between 3rd, 4th and 5th gears (except at the start of course).
I don't know if that can help you but I did the following since it was almost my first time with manual transmission:
As you approach a turn, be in 4th gear (downshift from 5th if needed) while braking significantly (you won't need to get there so fast), stop braking, use the handbrake while turning suddenly, start accelerating afterwards for sliding and once the slide is almost over, downshift into 3rd gear to regain power, then go back into 4th, then 5th.
I don't know if it's the most effective, but it was to give me a "guideline" to avoid "panicking" when changing gears and it worked well.

So this trophy is a doozy to say the least. I thought I had unlocked it 3 times before it finally happened on the 4th try. There are a lot of good guides out there and this one is to simply help those eliminate mistakes and unlock this safely the first time.

Car: So first, I used the Ford Fiestas. Why? Because well, America. Yeah, no, don't use the Fiestas. After that debacle, I settled on using the Peugot 208 WRX. Why? Because the best AI on the track used it.

However, you could also use the Renault Megane RS RX because the best players in the world use it. So obviously, it's a good vehicle.

Setup: I use GTR Technical's setups. All credit goes to that channel, amazing work, highly recommend if you are not only going for this trophy, but all time limit trophies.

Peugot 208 WRX:

Renault Megane RS RX:

Racetrack: At first, I attempted this trophy on track that I personally felt I could be better at. After a few hours of getting absolutely nowhere, I realized I was just not skilled enough to do it on any given track. As most guides will point out, the Hell, Norway track is the easiest place to do this. It is absolutely true and this guide is centered around that track.

Improving skill: If you're like me and not a huge racing game player and/or don't use a wheel, you're likely going to need to practice in order to unlock this trophy. I suggest practicing on time trial mode with assists on (exterior view + automatic transmission). Obviously it should be set to wet conditions. You'll first want to get your regular lap time (not the joker lap) under 40 seconds, preferably 37-38. I know, 1 second error but it makes all the difference as further explained below. Having the ghost helps tremendously as you can tweak your play and know where to turn earlier/later. Once you get your time under 40 seconds and are comfortable, switch to manual transmission with all assists off. You should still have a natural feel for when to turn and such and hopefully with some extra practice, you will be able to have your run down based more on muscle memory than skill (although skill will be needed 8/10 times when doing the actual race).

Tips: When braking/drifting into a turn, use the brake, then handbrake and ease off the gas. Do not use the hold onto or heavily rely on regular brake. If you are relying on the regular brake often, you are doing it wrong. For this trophy, you want to let go of the gas pedal as you are approaching a turn, tap the brake button and then use the hand brake and once your car is in the motion of drifting, hit the gas pedal again, using the steering to get yourself back in the right spot. You want to be drifting and exiting out of the turn in 2-3 gear as you will have more control. Jump up to 4-6 gear only after you have completed your turn. I cannot stress the importance of this one piece of advise so remember to ease of the gas pedal, brake and then handbrake when turning - again, this is the most crucial skill to get down and everything will fall into place once you get that down.

The race: There are several guides out there that say you can do this outside of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. DO NOT DO THIS! I did not bother attempting it outside this mode because I never found a video guide that proved it. Every guide I saw did this in FIA World Rallycross Championship. That is step 1.

Step 2 is to set AI difficulty to 100. I cannot prove that hardcore damage needs to be on/off but leave it on because in all honesty, it doesn't matter and I unlocked this with it on (and most videos I saw had it set to on as well). Then select your vehicle and then retire from event until you reach Hell, Norway (Event 5). Tune your vehicle and make sure all assists are off and manual transmission is on.

Step 3 is the races itself. This is where guides start to vary dramatically. Some say you can get through the qualifiers and semi-final with assists on. I tried this once, it did not work. Be safe and do the whole event without assists and manual transmission on. Another misconception is what exactly is the "cockpit view." The second time I attempted this, I used the dash view (where you just see the road). It did not work. Be safe and do the whole event in the default view when the race begins, it should be the full layout of the cockpit.

Step 4 is the qualifier rounds. IMO, this is the hardest part of the trophy because advancing is based on time completion, not position. Hence the need to get your regular laps down to 37-38 seconds. You can get 1st place in all qualifier and still not advance because your overall time needs to be below 2:40, preferably 2:37 - 2:38.999. And yes, finishing above 2:38.999 makes all the difference because that 1 second can be the difference of placing 12th or 15+. If you do not place in top 12 of each qualifier round, RESTART. I cannot stress enough the importance of this. Even in 13th place, if you proceed and think you can make up the difference, it will be impossible because the top AIs set record times that not even the best player in the world can do. So the goal is to finish in top 12 in EACH QUALIFER.

Step 5 is the semi-final and final rounds. These are the victory laps IMO because all you need to do is finish in top 3 for semi-final and 1st place for final (obviously). People have different preferences on when to take the joker lap but all AI are the same, once you get ahead, they back off. I personally did the joker laps in the beginning and caught up to take first by 3-4 lap but if you are barely squeaking by the qualifiers and spending hours and hours to get to this point, save yourself the time and focus on getting in 1st place first, then do the joker lap later on when you have broken away from the pack. On my third attempt, I did all this, placed first, and it did not unlock. It was devastating because everything said I got first place with no penalty time, but once I completed the event (where it shows the podium), it said I placed 5th! This is because I cut the track at some point. And although I was not dinged with penalty time on the results screen, it applied it afterwards. SO CAUTION: IF YOU HEAR THAT YOU CUT THE TRACK, RESTART. DO NOT RISK IT!!

And there you have it. Do all this and once you complete the event and are on the podium, pop goes the trophy.

This may seem impossible to non-racing players but hopefully this guide helps those who are struggling and worried it cannot be done. It can!

Happy hunting :)

The trophy can only be achieved in a career in the Rallycross Championship. The easiest track in my opinion is in Norway on the Hell track. We turn off all the assistants in the settings (we must install a manual transmission) and start the Championship with the bot difficulty level of 100. Then we simply disqualify ourselves at each race until we reach Norway and try to win)

Important clarification. The difficulty needs to be changed not in the career (you can’t change it in the career), you need to launch the championship in the Freeplay section - Fia Wolrd Rallycross Championship.

Incomplete description of the trophy. Turn on Hardcore Damage; if you turn it off, it won't drop.
It is not necessary to start the championship with difficulty level 100. You can change the difficulty as the championship progresses. The change in difficulty applies to the entire stage.
If you have GOTY, don't take the 2019 cars, they have bots in first place qualifying in about 2:32 on the Hell track (Norway), getting into the top 12 to advance is very difficult. On old cars they pass in 2:35-2:37.
It is enough to turn off the assistants only before the final. The car drives well without them, you can turn them off immediately, leaving only the external camera, launch control, and gearbox.
In the gearbox settings, set the final gear to the shortest; during the race, you don’t have to shift below fourth gear. Final race video
