How to unlock the Shadow achievement in Dishonored - Definitive Guide

a few Tipps directly from Bethsoft. You can alway replay your Mission from the Mainmenu, all Missions beside the Flooded District should't be so hard...

How do I meet the requirements for the ‘Ghost/Shadow/Specter/Faceless/Clean Hands’ Achievements/Trophies?
- Killing the Weepers present in the sewers beneath the Hound Pits Pub just before The Golden Cat mission will count against the Clean Hands achievement, but will not count against the achievements dealing with being spotted.
- If Granny Rags is Sleep Darted or Choked Out after destroying the Cameo in the Flooded District Mission, this will count as a kill and will prevent you from getting Clean Hands.

Which characters and creatures count towards detection of your character?
- All characters and creatures with the exception of friendly characters, Rats, River Krust, Hagfish and Watchtowers, count as detecting your character (evidenced by the red bolt icons upon detection).
- Friendly characters will turn into a detection if they see your character do anything aggressive/hostile (kill someone, be hostile towards the NPC, carry a dead/subdued body, etc.). They will gain the red bolts when this happens.

I’m getting stats for bodies being found or killed when I’ve rendered NPCs unconscious, why?
- Not hiding bodies well enough after choking them out or sleep darting them can sometimes lead to other characters finding them, or worse, may lead to nearby rats cleaning them up, counting as a kill towards your character’s stats.
- Unconscious characters won’t survive a fall from a great height, or a slip into the water which will also result in a kill towards your character stats.

How do the detection markers work that appear over NPC (non-playable character) heads? There are four levels of detection.

Level 1. One marker will appear on either side of the NPC – The NPC has caught a glimpse of your character or heard a non-threatening sound.
- The NPC will not actively search.
- The NPC will return to patrolling or idle after a few seconds without further alerts.

Level 2 Two markers will appear on either side of the NPC – The NPC has seen your character or heard a threatening sound.
- The NPC will actively search for a several seconds and up to a minute.
- The NPC will return to level 1 after a about a minute or two without further alerts.

Level 3 Three markers will appear on either side of the NPC, and they have not turned red. In this case, the NPC is very close to finding or being aware of your character’s presence.
- The NPC will actively search, up to several minutes.
- The NPC will return to level 2 after about a minute without further alerts.

Level 4Three markers will appear on either side of the NPC, and they turned red - The NPC has spotted your character and is actively engaging him.
- The NPC will enter into combat and actively chase / attack.
- This level will count as an official sighting of your character and will count against stealth-based achievements/trophies (i.e. Ghost, Specter).
If the NPC loses sight of your character, they will search for several seconds.
- The NPC will return to level 2 after a few minutes without further alerts.

If you botched one mission does going back and replaying a mission with no alerts work for this achievement?

Does bodies being found affect the achievements? even thou i was not seen nor had any kills at the "mission summary"-screen?

I got spotted without realising until the stat screen on mission 7, completed the campaign, revisited mission 7 and fully stealthed it, no shadow achievement, replayed the final mission to see if that would pop it, no luck. Sad face. I find this game really fun but it will take some motivation to stealth the campaign again.

What about 'alarms rung'? Does that void any of the achievements? I got both 'no kills' and 'Ghost' ticked off but one alarm rung some how.

If you get detected can you reload a save? Or is it too late? If it's too late, do you have to start the game all over or just the mission? And finally, what counts as a detection? Red only? or white markers over their heads too?

I meant what counts as alerting someone? Red markers only? Or white ones too?

This game is definitely causing alot of frustration with the stealth walkthrough cheevs. I decided to go for clean hands, ghost, & shadow in one playthrough like most people are doing. I went thru the whole game with no alerts & no kills and at the end the only achievement that popped was "shadow". WTF?!? I get why I didn't get clean hands with the whole granny rags thing with the cameo, but how could I get shadow & not ghost? Was I supposed to kill the key targets, and if I did, doesn't that mess up clean hands? Frustrating...

I attempted to get ghost/shadow/clean hands in one playthrough, but I only got Clean Hands (anyone else with this combo?)

I did the granny quests and stole the key in the sewers (obviously this is okay for the Clean Hands chievo). I always made sure that I got ghost checked at the end of each level and had nobody be alerted. BUT I had some bodies found.

What went wrong with "shadow"?

I just want to second the fact that a found "knocked-out" enemy body does not count against this achievement.

I just completed the 1st mission, trying for the nonlethal playthrough. The stats screen said I rung 1 alarm, but I know I didn't, but it still gave me the Faceless achievement anyway. Now do I have to replay the mission over again to make it no alarms or can I just keep playing?

My question is is replayed chapter 2, got the ghost & didn't kill anyone but yet somehow had 2 bodies found & 2 alarms rung, will that count against me?

No need go worry about alarms and bodies found. It's about been detected, as explained above.

Is it OK to complete Granny Rags and Slackjaw quests? I completed The golden Cats mission and still have Ghost and Clean hands checkmark (although I have found some bodies). Is it OK?

This may be a stupid question, but next run through, I'm going for Ghost, Clean Hands, Surgical, and Shadow, the question is, how the heck do you avoid those assassins in House of Pleasure?
Do they only appear when you get close to Griff (the pawnbroker)?
As for Flooded district being hard, lol, just playing normal, it looked like the last 2 levels were WAY harder to be stealthy, esp the Loyalist mission, all those soldiers packed in that tiny pub...guess I need to study a video first, lol

So at what level does the achievement get voided, level 2?

By Draco719 on 06 May 2014 05:23
@ Draco710 what do you mean by voided? I believe you have to do all missions starting with the overseer all the way to the end with no detections........somebody had an excellent guide, but it was written in a way where you absolutely HAD to beat the game before to understand it....I think I have it on my pc somewhere but I need to rewrite it a little (I have the author's permission of course)

Well I beat the first mission with a few guards going to level 1 and still got ghost at the end. Just wanted to know what level of detection will void the achievement.

The level where the Empress gets killed and the daughter gets taken is the prologue, so it doesn't count towards no-kills or detection.....white "spidey sense" lines above the enemy's heads don't count either....its when it turns red is when there is a problem

When I said first mission i meant when they show you the stats at the end of the sewers, but cool, only if they turn red. Thanks man!

Ok, question.......I'm doing a no kills/no alerts/no powers/low chaos (obviously, lol) run, I'm trying to get as much cheevos done in one playthrough.....thing is that I did both Granny Rags & Slackjaw's side missions.......am I going to be screwed in mission 7? I heard there is a gate that becomes locked if you did both side missions and you have to steal the key from Granny Rags.....

BTW, I am replaying this on the Xbone, come to find out that after redoing House of Pleasure 4 times and getting the no alerts unchecked for the first 3 times, that for some reason (at least for me) is that weepers and/or Granny Rags seeing you on the way out with Emily ruins your no alerts run...but the weeper that sees you under the Hound Pit is perfectly ok.......weird....

P.S. Wow, the last post was from me over 3 years ago, lol

Just a note on this. If you don't start the granny rags side missions (by not talking to her in the first place early in the game) you won't need to go to her lair in the sewers later on for the sewers key.... so you can bypass a potentially tricky encounter that could ruin the achievement chances.

Referring to the "I’m getting stats for bodies being found or killed when I’ve rendered NPCs unconscious, why?

If I finish a chapter undetected (Ghost checked) but a body has been found, do I need to start over? I assume that as long as Ghost is checked at the end of the mission I am good, but wanted to check before continuing. Thanks.

This series of videos will help people complete the missions with out alerting or killing no one but the key targets. This will also be an achievement guide to obtain the ghost/Shadow/Mostly Flesh and Steel/Resolution achievements

does "without alerting anyone" preclude you from having bodies found or simply from having alarms rung?

is this just like the Deus Ex achievement, where it's ok if an enemy goes into an alert state but no alarm is set off?

It looks like they have 3 levels of alertness. Does a minor curiosity count against the achievement, and others like it? I don't want to watch a series of videos and get spoilers. I'd rather just see some healthy tips. Also, is the prison considered part of the prologue? It seems like there's on bit that's pretty much guaranteed to alert people.

Sorry, forget what i said. "Dishonored" is unlocked for the first mission. Escape and Sewers = 1. Mission, not Prologue.

@Wyndo

Prologue includes the escape through the sewers til you first see the boatsman. The Achievement "Dishonored" is unlocked at the end of the prologue.

Alertness: Grey signs are okay, red signs are bad. If guards run towards you, reload.

I can also confirm that finding bodies won't alert them.

In order to know when an enemy is alert, watch the lightning bolts over their head. Once they are all filled in with white, they will turn red and the enemy will start attacking you. If that happens, reload the last save you have. Always pay close to attention to the detection markers (the lightning bolts) and as soon as you see even a bit of white, hide until the enemy moves on.
