How to unlock the When I'm With You achievement in DOOM II (Classic) - Definitive Guide

Here it is by popular demand! All 30 MAPS in Doom II (Classic) done solo on nightmare difficulty.

General tips:

1) Revenants and Mancubi are generally your friends on these maps, they tend to cause a lot of in-fighting and can wipe out rooms of demons.

2) Most maps are not too bad.

3) Your worst enemies are shotgunners and chaingunners. Both of these enemies will shred you if left alive. Prioritize these guys first if there is a group of demons.

4) Doom II (Classic) expects you to know how to use the strafe jumps as well as normal gap clearing. When there is a jump I make that looks tricky go load up that level in single player on I'm Too Young to Die and kill all enemies in that location and practice, practice, practice until you get it.

5) Like Doom (1993) taking too long in a level can make it unfinishable due to the large number of respawning demons.

MAP 1 (00:00)
Very straight forward, run to the end.

MAP 2 (00:24)
Another straight forward level, getting the red key can be tricky as here is a lot of shotgun guys waiting for you here. Take them out one by one and grab the key. The same applies to the blue key, take your time (not too much though) down the hallways killing them. Once you have the blue key you are home free.

MAP 3 (03:32)
Before even attempting this MAP watch the video, more specifically the jump at 04:07-04:10, you will need to perform this jump in order to move forward as this level is insane if you do not. Once you have the jump down the rest of the level is easy.

MAP 4 (05:10)
Start off by opening the door in the starting room, shoot down the hall at the chain gunners to attract their attention. Hide in the room for a moment to let them move towards you. After several seconds check the hall and kill them if they are close enough. Take your time down this hall as running in meaninglessly wastes dropped weapons and time. Once clear, hit the switch in the upper room and make your way to the side rooms. This first part is the hardest. Once you have the red key you are home free. From the start head into the red door on the right, clear the chain gunners on the ledges before trying to finish the level as they will make your life a nightmare. You can die as much as you need to here as enemy respawns seem to be at a low in this room.

MAP 5 (09:00)
The red and blue keys are the most difficult rooms in the level. Once you get the blue key you are set.

MAP 6 (12:52)
Oh boy, this level can be quite the pain to finish, expect to die a lot while making some progress. First make your way around the left side clearing the shotgun guys until you get to the elevator. Get on it and head to the right corner facing the arachnotron, it will be unable to hit you while staring here. Once the elevator starts moving up face left, once the elevator is at the top jump through the gap to the switch. Quickly get the blue key, if you fail at this restart the level. The red key, only attempt this area if you have more than 40 health, otherwise let yourself die and come back. If you do not complete this first try you will have to restart the level as all the platforms containing enemies will have lowered. After the red key things become easier, make your way to the yellow key, once you pick it up a shortcut will open up from the start to this area so death is not game ending at this point.

MAP 7 (20:42)
The level exit is only reachable after all arachnotrons have been killed, this is normally not a problem on any difficulty except on nightmare. If you do not kill all of the arachnotrons fast enough you will likely not finish the level. Start the level by running around with the super shotgun taking pot shots at each mancubi, try to hit each one an equal number of times to lower their health. Along the walls hit each switch to lower the platforms, after a few laps grab the rocket launcher and kill the mancubi. After all of them are dead grab all of the power items (mega sphere, plasma gun, etc) and quickly take out each arachnotron. If mancubi start respawning ignore them because you will not have enough time to kill them.

MAP 8 (23:05)
Very easy, once you get the key in each room do not hit the switch to open the doors, instead let yourself die.

MAP 9 (24:25)
Probably the hardest level in the set. The beginning will have you throwing yourself at the switches in order to progress, there are no tricks here or real strategy's. Getting the yellow key is going to require a few deaths in order to clear some of the imps to hit the switch. Once you have the yellow key you are home free.

MAP 10 (29:45)
Follow the path I take to grab the blue and yellow keys. The only tough part is the exit, once you open the door leading to the exit a cyberdemon will spawn behind you. If you are lucky you can hit the switch and be done. If not you need to pull the cyberdemon out into the previous room and head up the stairs in the back to make him teleport away.

MAP 11 (00:00)
-You will want to weaken the spectres by heading down where the shotgun is and shooting 4-5 shots at them before going into the blue door.
-You will also want to either kill or weaken the pain elemental through the grate before going into the blue door.
-Lower the platform by using the action button in the corner of the platform in the pit before picking up the invulnerability sphere.
-You have 1 shot at finishing the level after picking up the sphere.
-Do not kill the arachnotron through the bars.
-After hitting the switches a new arachnotron spawns in.
-Use the rockets to kill the arachnotron.

MAP 12 (04:09)
-Pretty simple level.
-Brute force the end by slowly killing the Cacodemon and hitting each switch to finish the level.

MAP 13 (14:18)
-Relatively straight forward level.
-You must get the invulnerability orb, get the rocket launcher, then make the jump, grab the second orb, then get the yellow key in one swift run.
-If you fail at any point starting from the first orb to getting the key you will have to restart.

MAP 14 (17:04)
-At the double doors shoot the revenant and move back to pull it out of the doors.
-The archvile is the biggest pain here, spend several deaths damaging it until it dies. Then run through to grab the blue key.

MAP 15 (20:13)
-Secret Exit counts towards the achievement so take it as it is easier than the normal one.
-Jumping to the switch for the invulnerability sphere room is the hardest part. I suggest practicing the jump in single player on I'm to Young to Die.

MAP 16 (24:51)
-You need to kill a few imps by the blue key in order to make it up to it.
-Getting the red key is the most tricky part here.
-Save the invulnerability sphere for the exit area.

MAP 17 (27:27)
-This is a tough level.
-After getting the red key take a death.
-The cyberdemon in the middle is both a pain and a useful enemy. You will have to manipulate his placements every once in a while to put him in a useful area.
-The arachnotron by the yellow key can sometimes be annoying. I found that jumping down left generally worked more often.
-This will take quite a few deaths to beat the level.

MAP 18 (38:16)
-Very quick and easy!

MAP 19 (39:12)
-You only need 2/3 keys here.
-Level is pretty straight forward.

MAP 20 (43:04)
-Most of this level is going to be brute forced.
-You do not need to take the lava teleport (to the left at the start) if you can make it through in the first few tries to the room with the plasma gun.

MAP 21 (00:00)
-Simple level.
-Nothing to difficult here.

MAP 22 (03:29)
-Every run attempt will need you to get the plasma gun.
-There are chain gunners galore here and they will kill you fast.
-General strategy for each teleportation into the central room is to kill as many gunners as possible.
-After you get the red key head to the side room at the start and grab the supplies to attempt the run to the exit.

MAP 23 (10:02)
-Not so much fun.
-Pain Elementals and Lost Souls do not respawn when they die so kill them all off before going forward.
-The Mancubus is your best friend here, it will fight demons along the edges and will help clear out the lost souls and Pain Elementals for you.
-Let the arachnotrons and Spider Mastermind infight before getting the yellow key.
-The part with the revenants and archvile is the hardest here. Run for the BFG quickly, grab it and start firing
-Archviles can not hit you if they lose line of sight.
-Keep holding forward when going into the teleportal near the end or you will die.

MAP 24 (14:50)
-Not too bad of a level.
-Again, Lost souls do not respawn.
-If you can try to lure some of the Cacodemons away in the blue door room.
-The room with the pinkies and red keys is by far the hardest part.

MAP 25 (20:40)
-One of the more tricky levels to do.
-Getting the blue key is not too bad.
-The run to the exit is somewhat luck based, thankfully taking a long time here is fine.
-Always use the BFG as it helps with clearing the rooms, you only get 2 shots with it each time though.

MAP 26 (24:28)
-Another pretty easy level.
-The yellow key is a little tricky to get however, you will need to manipulate the baron to the right side of the walkway.

MAP 27 (31:07)
-Pretty easy level.
-The only tricky part here is the room with the revenants and the adjoining room with the BFG.

MAP 28 & 29 (33:22)
-You need to do MAP 28 in order to even have a fighting chance to do MAP 29.
-You need the following items before going to MAP 29: Rocket Launcher, Plasma Gun, BFG, Super Shotgun, minimum 30 rockets, 600 energy ammo, 200 health and 200 armour.
-The route I have planned on 28 gives all of these items can be completed in less than 2 minutes once you know the route.

-MAP 29, by far the hardest level in the lot by a very large margin.
-This took me about 30 attempts with this route I show (I did like 200ish to learn the level itself).
-The plasma gun is your best friend here, it is extremely deadly and stuns enemies as well.
-Pay attention to where weapon swaps happen and learn how many button press are needed to switch to your next weapon needed.
-The rising walkway with Cacodemons is your first major hurdle to practice. Try to make sure your rockets are not wasted here too much as you need at least 10 later on.
-To make the jump position yourself in the middle of the torch across the way and move forward.
-It is super easy to fall off by accident or when you get hit by attacks, falling here is almost a guaranteed restart.
-Do not pick up the blue orb or blue armour here as well, this is a restart if you do.
-In the next room use the plasma gun to kill everything. Kill the Pain elemental and lost souls first before dropping down.
-Kill the archvile in the next room with rockets.
-Having 200 health and 200 armour is ideal before hitting the teleportal to the big room. However, 180 health and 180 is acceptable as well and can get you through to the end.
-You also need over 500 energy ammo for the next part.
-This is the hardest part of the level, do it exactly how it is shown, this will take practice and will be the point of the most frustration.
-The final run is 100% luck if you get to the exit.
-Aim for having around 70 health and 70 armour when entering the teleportal.
-Do not fall into the hole with the cyberdemon, you will be very sad if you do (I was when it happened to me).

MAP 30 (40:19)
-Simple enough level.
-Shoot rockets into the hole in the demons walls forehead.
-A trick I used was to shoot at rocket about when the rocket launcher top was at about chin level on the demon.
-Practice when to shoot the rockets on single player on the easiest difficulty to get a feel for it.

Good luck for those wanting to get this achievement!

Finally beat map 23, pro-tip: there's a megasphere right after the ledge with all the pinkies, if you get this, and then get the rocket launcher straight ahead after, you're in much better shape for the rest of the level. I got the megasphere, then the rocket launcher, then used the RL on all the imps in the room with all the rockets, loaded up on rockets, grabbed the blue health to get back to 200% health, then (once the spiders were infighting) ran to the yellow key and let rockets fly at the revenants & such leading up to the BFG. Still hard, but much, much easier than trying to brute force your way through with the shotgun.

With exception from 13, 23 and 29, all other levels can be brute forced solo even if you miss an item or die after getting it. I died some times in places where the guide says it is a restart situation, and still could do it.
With the update, many levels are way more difficult and I would recommend looking into guides that show location from items like health, mega armor and others. I did many stages getting better guns or items compared to the guide, or by leaving the items for later and brute forcing a little more before getting them.
For 29, I did it with one person helping me, basically by being a decoy for the cacodemons. Also, befofe you go down, you want to have the area cleaned of any shotgunner and machine gunner. And later, before you take the teleport to the big room, you want all cacodemons that are on the left, just outside of the room, dead. If you kill them with the other account before teleporting, they won't follow you there.

Used your videos as a path guide for both games and man, this one was much more brutal with the update. Managed to get it done with the help of my uncle and cousin, made almost 0 difference for M29 though. Best advice I can get for that one is start on M28 and try to get as much plama rifle ammo as possible as it can stun. Can't say what it's like to do this achievement solo but any help is better than no help so if you can get even so much as a paw movement from your dog to distract those cacodemons you're all set. They also distracted some of the demons shooting at me on the final run up the stairs. Glad this is over, on to save scum the 360 version whenever I get around to it .

Also incase you're doing this co-op with the goal to get this for yourself and another if either controller dies QUIT OUT OF THE LEVEL. Learned the hardway and had to do M15 and 16 over again.

Reached 96% completion. I'm at the dreaded map 29. So all that is left is to rehearse the run through map 28 + map 29 until the stars align. Your videos were of great help to get there even with the update. Thanks!

Edit: That single map is one of the hardest thing I have ever tried... Might make it more managable with 4 players. Is it cooperative in local play only?

Had a friend tell me about an application called Parsec. It lets friends have remote access to your pc with a controller and we ended up playing a bit of the first doom together on nightmare just for fun. There is a bit of a security concern to keep in mind since it works through remote access of your pc. This only works if everyone is on pc and not console and it would only count maps for whoever is hosting since you can only sign in with one account. Unfortunately, my friends weren't interested in practicing and executing a coordinated run and I spent about 12 hours on map 29 from practicing and attempts.

A seriously big thank you for this guide, me and my brother managed to get every level done except Map 29 which with the fast monsters update is just insane. This morning we finally managed to do finish Map 29 and it is up there with the Metal Gear Ray fight in Metal Gear Solid 2 on Extreme on being some of the hardest gaming moments!

Managed to finally beat level 29 with my little bro while at 96% each just to be greeted with the sweet sound of nothing and after a couple hours later I run it again and nada, helpful guide that I used a couple parts for but I seem to be cursed and I'm not running these bloody levels again anytime soon lol. gotta love bugged achievements.

Finally managed to beat 29 after hours of grinding only for it to not count. I'm going to go for it again, but all of this has been an absolutely miserable and draining experience.

Edit: After beating map 29 four times the achievement unlocked. I spent way more time on this than I should have and in a masochistic way I kinda enjoyed it by the end. One tip I would recommend that I think worked for me is if you're having the same trouble I did, try switching slots with your other controller. Meaning your second account is player 1 or vice versa. The first successful run I did after I switched places the achievement unlocked.

How do you get side by side split screen? When I start it's top/bottom which is (even on a 32" screen) far too small.

They changed the split screen after one of the later updates, I believe it is no longer possible top get side by side split screen.

So watching the videos, on map 23 the pinkies move *way* slower than they do now. Commentary on the other solution seems to indicate that fast monsters were something that was added in an update. :(

Is anyone stuck at 0% on the tracker? Mine won't go up no matter what I do. I initially played to level 29 and got stuck when the game first came out. I think the achievement was glitched at the time and no one could actually unlock it. Came back to reattempt it and it seems to be completely broken.

Can someone tell me if this achievement is unlockable? It is showing the last person who unlocked it was in 2021.

Also, regarding the update that sped up the demons, it might be possible to remove that, if you uninstall the game, go into offline mode, and reinstall the game so that the update doesn't install with it (since you have to be online), it might work, of course, not being online means you won't be able to play this game off gamepass, you have to own it, as a heads up. This worked on Halo MCC for one buggy achievement due to an update.

96%... 🙃
Been awhile.. I must suck lol.. it's ridiculous all the factors that come into play..m guys behind you in teleporter..... Archville coming out to platforms......29 is lame, I think it should be patched, vs other levels it's through the roof. Should be possible with pistol start. I switched to 4:3 ratio .. feels easier and screen is a bit bigger..

@*** edit.. so I had to erase save local and in Xbox ... Redid it all with a live body man.. now got the 96% with one level left. Whew.and on last level (29) final hell lol... Easier said than done.

On map 23 theres a megasphere in an alcove between the green hallways as you come out after the wave of pinkies. Grab that, then grab the rocket launcher. Made the rest of the map much easier.

Also, it's possible to brute force the switch to raise the bridge on map 29 using the 2nd controller. To make things easier you can first use player 2 to hit the switch to lower the block before the bridge switch. You have to kill the 3 barons that come out of the room, but they'll stay in there once they respawn and won't come back out unless you go back in. Using an elastic to fix player 2 so that he constantly runs out into the middle of the map shooting seems pretty effective at drawing off the cacodemons, if you can avoid the game crashing after 10-15 minutes due to the number of weapon sprites that enemies keep dropping.

Edit: After a month of trying, the nightmare is finally over

Well that sucks. ☹️

Hoping to chip away at this over time, but I dunno. I previously did level 1, then yesterday thought I'd try some of the harder ones & hammered out 21 & 22, but 23 made me rage quit. I think once you get into the area where the yellow key is, if you die after that point you might as well restart as getting past all those pinkies at the start is brutal (and even if you do, by the time you get to the revenants & archville you'll have like 20 health which isn't nearly enough).

*This achievement is now unlockable but seems to still be buggy. Several people (myself included) are having some levels not track. Based on comments, playing with a guest instead of a second account may cause problems, as does player 2's controller dying. If it glitches on you, try fully deleting your game data, including from the cloud, and starting again. You will have to repeat all the levels, but your tracker should go up again once you pass your previous percentage*

I found that using speedrun tactics helped greatly for many missions. A speedrun of the whole game is linked below. Not all of the tricks can be used on this version, but it's still very helpful.

You can respawn infinitely in co-op. For some levels this makes it relatively easy. More weapons will also be added to the maps that were not previously there. You can also complete the levels in any order.

If you havent run through the missions before, it's almost mandatory to play through on an easier difficulty to learn level layouts- Doom 2 has a lot of rooms and areas that are not required to beat levels.

For some parts of levels, your best strategy is to just run and gun as quickly as possible just to grab a key or switch, then just reset. Example below.

Others (like the smaller corridors of the Citadel) it can be worth going a little slower and clearing the enemies. I also used many if my deaths to set up one good run through an area - strategically killing enemies and leaving their weapons in the ground, etc.

Other times you'll just be running through the same section over and over again until the stars line up. I did the ending section of Tenaments at least 100 times.

The easiest way to beat 29 (and maybe only way) is to play level 28 first:

Here is a run by Dabima through map 29, by far the hardest if you’re going through solo.

Be prepared to die a truly excessive amount - some of the levels on co-op nightmare are really ridiculous. I have been playing Doom for several decades and this achievement is a struggle solo. If you have 3 friends to do it with, it's probably not too bad.

Devil D, I might have a solution for you because my progress stopped counting in Doom 1 nightmare and this fix did allow me earn the achievement but its not going to sound nice at all. The only way I found to get my percentage to count again was to completely erase my profile information off of the cloud. Basically you go into "manage game" for doom 2, from home and go to saved data. And find where your profile is under saved data. Then click on it and it will ask if you want to delete from console or everywhere and choose everywhere.

This method did allow me to actually earn my achievement but there's a catch. Your progress towards the achievement is set back to 0. The achievement tracker will still read the percentage that you had before, in this case 90%, but I can vouch that the tracker might as well be at 0. You have to beat every level again on nightmare. Your tracker will only go up again once you've completed the next level after reaching 90% level completion again. So in this case you have 27/30 levels completed. The tracker would only finally go up, after deleting your save from the cloud, once you've completed 28/30 levels. I highly doubt you would even want to do that however given how difficult some of the levels are to complete, but I'm just giving you my two cents just in case.

Yeah. I have no problem with how difficult it is really; I just hate it when devs put in achievements with no thought. Like I seriously doubt they had any expectation of people having to run through 2 levels before attempting it.

That being said, I did beat it last night. Just as a tip for anyone else, if you can find even ONE person to help you, it is significantly easier to get through most of the level. You want to run through 27 & 28 as usual, and follow the same route through 29 while using the 2nd person as a meatshield. Basically, for most of the level you want player two to just distract as many cacodemons as possible in the open area with the soulsphere. It makes both the rising bridge section, and the run back to the soulsphere and mega-armor a lot less risky. You will typically only ever have a couple cacodemons on you at once this way instead of all of them at once. Once you are about to go into the last teleporter to the run up to the exit, have player two distract/kill as many enemies as possible in the beginning area(especially the chaingunners). At the end section I took minimal damage running up this way. Of course, the last section with the three switches will still be hard this way. Not much is really gonna make that part easier. Although with a meatshield you at least shouldn't have any cacodemons chase you all the way over there.

I don't have the whole recording of my run, but I made a minute long game clip after beating it. It basically shows just how many enemies player 2 is able to keep busy. It also shows how extremely lucky I got on the last bridge with the Barons on it lol.

Level 29 is really starting to piss me off laugh I've made it so many times to the part at the end were you run for the Exit and i got shot by the Minigunners from a distance or by the enemies just in front of the Exit laugh.. this is such a Luck Based Level everything need to go your way you just need that 1 lucky run to happen in order to beat this level or maybe i'm just one of the unluckiest doom 2 players wink.

To save me some Time i don't start at level 27 anymore i start at Lvl 28 cause you get everything you need in level 28 anywyay and getting all the Stuff with all the Invincibility Spheres is so much easier you can get ... 200 Health & Armor , all weapons (except shotgun) , backpack + max Ammo for everything except rockets but the 50 Rockets you get in Mission 28 are more than enough to beat level 29 imo! Now i just need to get lucky at the end so i can finally complete this game laugh

Unfortunately, Sabin VI, the Commandos and the chaingun guys are hitscan. This means that when they fire, their bullets shoot out in a line where they are aiming and their bullets hit instantly. Ive had a commando do anywhere from 35% in on shotgun blast to 1% in 1 shotgun blast. The chaingun guys are the same, sometimes they can miss all their shots or they can shred all your health in half a second.

The ending is entirely luck based because its based on how much damage the game randomly decides you should take when the commandos and chaingun guys inevitably hit you. I got really lucky in my run too. I only lost like 18% health climbing the stairs and had 16% health at the top of the stairs and I actually got hit by a mancubus fireball before I hit the exit. The fireball did exactly 15% health to me, leaving me with 1% left. Had the game randomly decided that it would deal 1% more damage on any shot from any enemy that hit me before the end, I would've died.

Certain enemies such as pain elementals and lost souls won’t respawn, but others seem to have no problem. I completed 14 levels but I don’t think I’ll be able to do the rest. Some of the enemies seem to just respawn insanely fast, and I hate that a bunch of cyber demons and spider masterminds were added in for co-op that weren’t originally there. Also ran into a few bugs such as enemies seemingly getting no-clip and god mode after being resurrected by an arch vile

I actually found the cyber demons to be helpful in clearing out enemies, and their rockets are easy to dodge.

I'm on level 22 and the levels after this are pretty rough so idk.

There is definitely something going on with spawning - you can see in my Tebanent run that a lot of enemies in the orange hall just aren't there. Not sure.

Interesting. Good luck being the first to complete it! The most intimidating part is The Living End. I die at least 20 times on most levels, and I know that one will be impossible with a pistol start, BFG is definitely needed for several rooms

I’ve died countless times to the mechanic that forces you to take several seconds to switch to a new weapon when you pick it up. Currently stuck on Tenements because I keep having to spend several seconds switching to a chain gun when I enter a room with multiple shotgunners

Thanks! Just finished the chasm now so progress is steady.

Tenaments has by far been one of the hardest for me so far. I also had the weapon problem and ended up sort of having to set up runs with weapons laid out a certain way to run over them correctly.

Been playing Living End for over an hour now, made nearly 0 progress. I think Spirit World May have to be replayed if you die on Living End. Simply put, there’s WAY too many enemies, and the only weapon you get on map 29 is a chain gun and a shotgun

Map 15 was definitely in the top 3 hardest maps. I had a much easier time once I realized you could skip a good chunk of the map by jumping into the lava and taking the teleporter to the yellow key and BFG. After that, if you're careful, you can get to the switch that's on the lava island and hit it right before dying. From that point, it's just running to the invulnerability, getting back in that teleporter, and sprinting for the secret exit behind the yellow door while you're invulnerable
0
0
By Dabima on 16 Jan 2020 15:29
You were able to use the secret exit and get it?! I remembered that I couldn’t unlock the achievement for beating all of the levels unless I used the normal exit. I’ll need to try that. I was almost able to reach the normal exit with no invulnerability/soul spheres but kept dying right before the berserk/megasphere combo. Wouldn’t mind being the second to beat it but we shall see!

Also, any reason why you are including 27 with 28 & 29?

More people doesn't help in 29 at all though. The only way to conceivably do it is running through 27 & 28 first. From pistol start on 29 you will lose almost all your health before even reaching the first teleporter.

By Quintett Feuer on 28 Jan 2020 01:24
Agreed. I'm not sure 29 is possible without 27 and 28, even with more players. I dont think you can effectively clear the room after the teleporter otherwise.

Well, I figured something big out (for me, anyways). I would sit my main controller (player 1, myself) and run through levels on the second controller. I did this on MAP29, and my controller died. When your controller dies, you won't get credit for the level. That's why I completed it once and didn't get the achievement. I used my main controller (player 1), hit all of the switches and then ran through with controller 2 before my first controller turned off. Achievement unlocked. Slid from 2nd to 6th on the completion because of it, but still. GLAD TO BE DONE!

Did levels 1-28 and 30 in about 8 hours. Watched a video on the setup for 29. Did only 6 attempts and on the 6th attempt I died after pressing all the switches, but I still beat the level on that attempt. Usually a death means you're screwed and you should back out and redo levels 27 and 28 to set up again. But I decided to say screw it and tried to brute force my way to the ending since I had at least opened up the path to the final teleporter. Took about an hour, but eventually I did beat the level with 1 health left. Not saying it's a viable strategy overall. But if you hit all the switches and die, although very rng based, it is still possible to beat the level.

If anyones interested, here is the last 5 minutes of my attempts at brute forcing to beat the level. Again i only tried this because I had already hit all the switches to open up the path to the ending before I died the first time.

I get Gunned down like crazy at the end and other people run through and survive with little to no damage that's why i think this part is completely Luck Based imo.

My game keeps crashing on map 7 so I can’t even complete it. There’s literally so many projectiles coming at you simultaneously that the game can’t take it. Who the hell thought this achievement was a good idea? If cooperative play was online that’ll at least be somewhat reasonable, but even then it’ll still be the same process of instant death, shoot and run, rinse & repeat (but with 2-4 people being annoyed instead of 1). So much luck is involved with the body blocking and constant enemy respawning, its honestly ridiculous
0
0
By Devil D on 23 Apr 2020 15:15
Hmm that is unfortunate about your game crasing. I wonder why having too many projectiles crashes your game. Especially when, in comparison to some other levels, dead simple doesnt particularly have a lot going on.

I did have my game crash however too while going for this achievement. My game would crash if I spent a particularly long time trying to beat it because they were difficult. Those levels were:

Level 11: Circle of death
Level 13: Downtown
Level 17: Tenements
Level 25: Bloodfalls
Level 29: The Living End

Basically the longer I took, the more enemies respawned and the game got overloaded. It would start to drop frames after about 25 minutes and eventually crash.

I’m stuck at 90% and I don’t know what more I can do. The only levels that are not registering for me are lvl20, 29, and 30. I beat lvl20 7 times, 29 twice, and lvl30 5 times, all solo. This is a complete joke. Not only does it feel like they put absolutely no thought into this list of achievements, but did they at least realize that Nightmare difficulty was literally put in the game as a joke? Did they really think a “beat the entire campaign on Nightmare difficulty” achievement was a good idea? Like c’mon. The mode is literally a joke, and on top of that we have to deal with completed levels not registering and constant game crashing. This thing is frustrating all around. I’ve been using TA for 10 years and never felt the need for commenting so that’s saying something.

Thanks for the advice Ace. I did what you said and it worked, I finally unlocked it today. I had to do the entire game again on Nightmare which is dumb but it wasn’t that bad. I guess I got pretty decent at the game since I was able to run the entire thing in a few hours lol. Level 29 is now my favorite level now ironically.

For those reading this comment, if one of your controllers dies/turns off during a chapter, I would recommend quitting out and resetting since I and others have noticed that as a possibility of it glitching and not counting towards the achievement total. Also, try to co-op with a real account as player 2. Sometimes I had my second profile as “guest” and I noticed those were the chapters that didn’t register as completed no matter how many times I completed them afterwards. For those reading this and going for this achievement: good luck! You’re definitely gonna need it. The RNG on Nightmare can get ridiculous.

Im glad my advice could help devil. Thats awesome that you not only were able to unlock the achievement but that you did the whole game over again and so quickly. I have no idea what causes levels to stop counting, but I definitely think you're on to something with the controller disconnecting. It sucks that something like that is even a concern when going for this achievement. But at least you were able to finally unlock it. You deserve it dude.

I'll have to also give this a go - I had deleted my cloud data but it hadn't occurred to me that the achievement counter would still display the same, despite being 0% complete. So I just tried the levels that didn't count for me, and the counter did not go up.

Fortunately mine stopped at 73% so it shouldn't be too hard to get back to that and see if it starts counting.

I tried a lot of things before fully resetting, and unfortunately none of them worked for me. I played the levels that it didn't count for me so many times to no avail - online, offline, guest, no guest, 3 players, etc. Nothing worked until I deleted everything and ran again.

So I recently sold my Xbox One console, and obviously had to wipe everything off there before selling it. I had 93% of this achievement done, with only 29/30 to finish... because it's an Xbox Play Anywhere game, I've started playing it again on my Windows 10 laptop. After months and months of trying, I finally finished 29! And the achievement tracker still showed 93%??!! I tried level 30 too, did it 3 times, and the tracker didn't budge!! Is this because I'm now playing on Windows 10, so the game thinks I've only done Levels 29 and 30? So I'm guessing now I have to do the whole game again? (Thankfully not Level 29 again!!!) Appreciate the help! Getting this achievement would be a bigger accomplishment than getting a degree it seems!

Started doing attempts at level 29 today and I found that the section near the end where you have to follow 3 narrow paths and back to open the teleporter to the final section. You can skip the most left one ( the path with the Demon spitting Lost Souls) and you can easily bypass the block (just go here on easy difficulty and make a save game to practice the jump a few times, once you have the angle down its pretty easy) where you would normally go to the left path button for to deactivate. This might seem minor but it saves you ammo and time spend in that room which seems to help a lot.

Hey Constant Vex - not sure about the crash issues. I will say that I played on the One X and never experienced a single crash, but I know others have had problems with it.

AreYouMi - if you cleared your data fully (as in, totally deleted your data from the cloud and what not) the tracker is reset in the background but will still show your previous percentage. Although its probably a problem with play anywhere in your case.

Ronald84 - I tried that trick a couple times, but I personally found it more frustrating to fail that section by missing the jump then to just do it the way displayed in the video - but if you can do it reliably, its definitely a little quicker and easier.

Wow! I somehow got the trick to work in Suburbs @10:45. It wasn't first try, but got it to work within ten attempts. Thank goodness too since I was getting a bit fatigued at that point.

Infinite respawns? Do the enemies respawning? This seems like it would be relatively easy, just time consuming?

Finally did this one solo on the Nightmare update. Truly a nightmare, Map 23 and Map 29 were insane, particularly 29, I never want to do that again. Took about 150 attempts to get the 28/29 run down, but eventually got there.

Level 29 is possible to finish with 4 players without doing level 28. I make this that way few days ago. Took us 8-10h of trying and repeating this level. Good luck everyone.

Same with 2 players. It is not possible to start on 29, you have to do the level 28 strat from above. It's pretty quick.

Godspeed to you guys. I’ve only done MAP01-10 & 21. What a mindfuck...and I’ve also grown up on Doom. Really sucks that we can’t strafe40 & strafe50 for the MAP11 jump, etc.

Also ran into a few bugs such as enemies seemingly getting no-clip and god mode after being resurrected by an arch vile
I don't have this game (yet!) but just wanted to chime in that this is a really old known bug in Doom, where enemies that are crushed by something, then resurrected by the Archvile, are invulnerable to anything except splash damage from rockets.

Good luck beating this!

It could be just basic achievement issues, maybe on the server side and what not, if the tracker is at 100% Done Unlocking it could just be taking some time to unlock, maybe try redownloading your profile or hard reset of Xbox, I'm not sure, I haven't started DOOM II Nightmare Co-op yet so it may be different for me since I'll be starting after the fix

Let us know if you find a solution. I've deleted the game, my local data, my cloud data. Deleted account and brought it back to my xbox. Hard restarted. Tried downloading a WAD (which disable achievements) and turning it back off. Nothing is making the tracker move for those levels. Even more frustrating because they worked on a second account.

Good news dudes, my tracker started moving recently. Tonight I beat all the maps and achievement was successfully unlocked. Of course, as many players here I did it solo with a lot of pain and fun, as it should be)) And just a reminder: my tracker stopped after first 5 maps were completed (at 16%). I tried to replay the 6th and 7th maps several times, but no luck. Then I reset console (without removing my games & apps) and started to replay all these maps from the first one. After the 4th (or 5th) map was replayed my tracker suddenly settled at 23%. Then I didn't have any problems with the counter. So that's just how this goes..

That really is great news Shadow. I would have shared the information about deleting the cloud save earlier, but i honestly thought it was a known solution, prior to me finding it out. I just thought the hassle of having to complete every level over again and not really knowing if the levels were truly counting, due to the tracker not showing your true progress, was what deterred people from doing it.

It was actually my friend Slayer Reigning who suggested the idea in the first place. He suggested deleting my cloud save for Doom 1. I did and checked the tracker and it didn't reset. Then after deleting the cloud save, I then tried completing a level on Nightmare Co-op that I know didn't count and the tracker still didn't move. I actually had given up at that point. But my friend Slayer said to me, "What if the levels are counting again, but the tracker just isn't showing your true progress because its not designed to move down in percentage." I was intrigued by the thought of that and just redid all the levels just to make sure and sure enough he was right.

I know you guys didn't need to know this information and I'm probably just oversharing, but I just think its pretty neat how not only did he help me find a solution to my problem, but I could then go on to help others with the same information. Seriously though Shadow, I'm glad you were able to finally unlock this buggy mess of an achievement, I'm sure you more than earned it.

All enemies will respawn infinitely. Some levels are not too bad but there are a fair amount of levels (including 29) that are quite difficult. I am no stranger to difficult achievements, and I thought this was a challenge.
