How to unlock the Gold Rush achievement in F1 2012 - Definitive Guide

Videos for each track can be found below. Each video has track specific details on the best ways to clock the fastest laps. In the end, it does mostly come down to practice, but there are tips in there to help you shave off valuable seconds for each individual track.

I have added a number in brackets after each track name. I have ranked them in difficulty, 1 being the easiest (Austin) and 6 being the most difficult (Suzuka). I recommend that you try to do them in the order listed, leaving the hardest track for last.

Valencia [2]
Silverstone [4]
Hockenheim [3]
Suzuka [6]
New Delhi [5]
Austin [1]

Austin, Valencia and Hochenheim are fairly straight forward. Get some laps in practice and you should be able to beat those gold times, i'd even rate valencia 1 andaustin 2.
The other ones however are very hard and took me quite some time to get.

Some tips:

Silverstone, you need to take the first corner fast, if you dont manage that one, you wont be able to make the time. Just try to find the turn in points so you get a good drive out of the corners. Especially in the wet thats super important. Also dont use KERS too soon in this one, it'll just provoke wheelspin and you'll spin or traction control will cut the power.

New Dehli: A strange one in my opinion, the first sector only has two corners so master those and you'll have that sector in the bag. Dont try to go in too hot in those first 2 corners, they're always followed by a good straight so you dont want to compromise your top speed on those straights. Second sector has that tricky double left followed by a right left. Dont go in too fast in the first left of the double and get the second left bang on (it seems you can take some gras when exiting the double left. The following right left you should take quite a lot of kerb. The very long right hander though has the key for a great lap time. Do a small downshift when entering and try get on the gas as soon as possible and stay outside. When you see the corner tightning, be brave and just steer in. if you see you're going wide just do a lift off. The last corner is a slow one, just go for a good drive out of it and not so much a high entering speed. I was always around 0,5 off the pace (always lost it in two last sectors) but once i got the long right one it was enough.

Suzuka: That one almost made me cry ;-), The tips from vulturou piano are good but the track is just so flowing that one small mistake can mess up an entire section. I'd recommend not giving up, i think i did around 50 laps on this one. The fast left-hander after the back straight you can take flat-out, but not with drs open, just close it before you steer in.

Make good use of DRS and KERS, you really need them to get the gold medals. I never used KERS in a gear higher then fourth and openend DRS wherever possible, when taking fast, easy corners with DRS open just be super calm with the steering, it made a LOT of difference on valencia where i beat the time with 1,5 seconds.

Thanks for the video's. Got some useful tips off them.

A tip I have is that on the last chicane on Suzuka you can cut the first part of it by a fair bit and this helped me massively with getting an early drive out of it and onto the straight, you do have to break earlier though which can cause issues.

Oh and another one on Suzuka. When going through the 'S' like corers at the beginning I found it beneficial to just have one wheel on the grass on the inside of each corner as this helped slow you down as well meaning you could take a slightly higher entry speed into the corner.

For suzuka i saved half my kers for the last little sprint to the finish line and activated drs when the barrier cuts off for the pit lane, done it in 1.35.409.
For silverstone i started using manual gears as i found it helped loads with braking into corners because you can downshift, and also upshift faster coming out of corners to stop the car spinning the wheels on the limiter, you can go full throttle and the car will gradually pick up outta the corner.

I came here to thank you that person who gave me the following tip because i thought i read it here. But either im blind or i grabbed that tip on another site.

You can drive into the pits at the end of a silverstone lap. This will save you some time. I was +0.400 behind the gold ghost at the last checkpoint went fullspeed into the pits and i got gold.

Important is, that you do not cross the white line in the pits, this will cause "Left the Track".

[EDIT] Note @ Maka

-Suzuka

Dont be so greedy with the DRS. You can open it before the 2 corners before the bridge, just close it fast enough before you brake to the first of these two corners. After the Hairpin, open it immediately, the corner is long enough that you wont spin. And after the last corner when you are heading towards the finishing line, open it. Be sure you straighten your car before open it.

Zetenge's point at Silverstone is great. If you're a half-second behind the ghost car, you should be safe to dive into the pits. A great tip since the final corners are the ones I struggled with the most on that track.

This is pretty difficult to obtain. The only challenging ones here are Silverstone and Suzuka. At Silverstone you are in the Caterham. Watch your control as it is easy to slide off the track at certain points, especially T2/T3. You can gain 0.3/0.4s in the final sector, however in the second sector you can lose a lot of time, it is very hard to perfect S2 and be in front of the ghost. In the end I beat it by 0.063s.
At Suzuka you are in the Sauber. This challenge would be quite simple if it wasn't for a certain number of corners, the one before 130R and the final chicane. Here is what I posted on another thread regarding this challenge:

Originally posted by sevenpanda: Turn 1 you can go pretty much full speed, slightly let go of the throttle and then brake down to 2nd for Turn 2. Then that corner near the end of S1 you can go almost full speed through, which sets you up better for the next corner.

Through 130R close the DRS and take an inside line, you should be able to go full speed through there. Then for the final chicane brake a bit earlier and you can make the corner earlier. I beat it by about 0.5s doing this.

You may also struggle with New Delhi. You have to nail the first corner and be about 0.5s in front of the ghost at the end of sector 1 as it will probably catch you in sector 2. Then in sector 3 you need to control the gap to the finish, making sure to beat the ghost. The other 3 (Valencia, Austin & Hockenheim) are fairly easy and should be done with pretty quickly, however if you are having any troubles refer to the videos below.

Again on the Proving Grounds select the Time Attack. There are 6 different circuits: Each circuit will have it´s own gold time to beat as follows:
Valencia: 1:39.871
Silverstone: 1:47.960
Hockenheim: 1:26:119
Suzuka: 1:35.413
New Delhi: 1:29.939
Austin: 1:40.165

Thanks to Maka here is a Thread with videos off all single challenges for time reference.
