How to unlock the Golden Delicious achievement in F1 2012 - Definitive Guide

To get gold medals you must select hard difficulty before starting.

You have a single Flashback so you can make one mistake and just rewind it.

Your free to leave all your assists on as doing so will not affect the achievement. I would say take the breaking assist off as default as you will never see a gold medal with it left on.

A few other tips You CAN corner cut quite a few times when not overtaking .

I found having the brakes set to front during wet weather made the car easier to deal with.
According to the comments from Splinun the Pro and KeithB Changing the fuel mix to rich also helps
I can confirm that Changing your fuel to rich mix aka mix 3 Makes these easier !

Challenge 1 The Iceman returns : Kimi Raikkonen is ahead of you Catch and overtake him . Difficulty 8/10

For this one you are put in a pretty poor Lotus car at the spa track This one is pretty simple in terms of what you must do just overtake Kimi doing so is not so easy though.

Remember you CAN cut corners when not overtaking and get away with it a few times I found this useful for corner 8 after the straight as it seems your car will lose quite a bit of speed going up the hill before hand. Just keep pushing hard this one is with practice nothing more or less.

Try to stay within 1 second of the car in front on each lap during the Drs zones to get the best results. Kers I used off both the first and last corners.

Challenge 2 The past Master : Beat Lewis Hamilton in changing conditions. Difficulty 2/10

Your put in jensons Maclaren for this one it's pouring down with rain and your goal is to stay in front of a tralling lewis
I found this one impossible to fail even on hard I won this with 20 secs to spare .

Don't go for a pit stop and this one is easy just take it easy as Lewis won't be catching you .
Prob the easiest one of the lot .

Challenge 3 Gently does it : Following a safety car incident overtake and finish the race ahead of Jenson Difficulty 6/10

For this one your once again in heavy rain you start under safety car rules your in Hamiltons Mclaren . You have the upper hand over any other car by having wets on .
There are two ways of doing this one

The clean way Is to just race as normal about 2 laps in the ai cars will start to struggle and you will notice your car is about 10 secs a lap faster .
It still gives issues esp in the first 2 laps where your car has no grip and seems really slow. Again it's all about how you can get on with the car in the wet . Be very careful as many times I span out spinning other cars out with me and got constant penalties.

You can also do this the dirty way it's also very tricky to nail down but if you can do it you can do this with your eyes closed.

After the safety car comes in and you can resume racing as normal you come up to a Chicane if you cut across it correctly and cleanly with out hitting anyone then spin out Jenson you will either get away with it or be forced to give a few places back.

It takes a fair few tries to do this mind but if you do it correctly it makes this one very easy remember the main goal to this method is to spin out jenson. I did this with 1 penalty and still had 45 secs on him at the end . On the other hand I did get disqualified a fair few times before I gort this to work.

Challenge 4 The stats man : Catch and beat Vettle whilst also setting the fastest race lap Difficulty 5/10

When I first saw this one I was scared I mean Vettle is a beast but the beast can be beaten . In fact he's more of a goat over beast

Your put into Mark Webbers Red Bull and yay it's dry !
This one is another simple one and really not too hard. Just keep pushing you are given 4 laps to cut down the 6 second gap
The Car is very loose just remember that when coming into a corner and off one I span out a few times .
It seems the A.i have a few issues at Hockenhiem on the 1st and 4th corners . Take full advantage of this I was able to over take him by the end of lap 2 remember you Can cut corners and get away it a few times just don't do it whilst overtaking . Kers off corners 2 and 3. You beat the world champion Well done !

Challenge 5 Flying Fernando: Catch and finish ahead of team mate Fernando Alonzo Difficulty 5/10

For this one you are put into the car of Felipe Massa At Monza . Your goal here is to get a 1/2 finish with your team mate .

For me this one was more of a baby sitting race It's easy enough to stay in the lead yourself but with Vettle and Webber in faster cars than Both you and Alonzo it tends to go in their favor. I would suggest a little dirty blocking to make sure you two both get P1 and P2

The Ferrari has untouchable handling and drives like a dream so you should not have too many issues on that side . Just try to get a gap of + 1 second so your not getting caught up fast in the drs zones. I used Kers at the race start and then on every lap at the first two Chicanes It could of been made harder in the rain.

Challenge 6 Simply the best : Hunt down and overtake Michael Schumacher on fresh tires Difficulty 6/10

For this one you are put into Nico Rosberg's car at Sepang Malaysia You must catch and beat the legend in just 6 laps .
This one tends to be more like challenge 1 In the fact of it's very simple in what you have to do . Race clean and fast . Again You have a slight upper hand after a few laps due to fresh tires .

Just be very careful as you have 6 whole laps of a very tight track I was able to catch him by the end of lap 5 and keep him behind me till the end. He gets stuck in alot of traffic around lap 3 too this will help you gain on him.
There are a few corners you can cut pretty bad and get away with it 4,8 & 16 . I used kers at 1,2&6 Drs helps if your within the requirements too.

Challenge 7 The ultimate challenge : Race all 6 champions and beat them in Austin Texas Difficulty 4/10

Your put into a Williams for this one not sure who's it is though, Your at the brand new shiny and pretty cool Texas track . Your task is very simple start in last and finish in 1st against the worlds best in 6 laps

Despite all the talk it's nowhere near as hard as I expected In fact this one is close to the past master in difficulty. I had never raced this track before and still won with my flashback and a nice 8 second lead.
I used all my kers right off the start line it's key to get past them in that first comer . If you don't I would say start again but it's still doable .

Much like Challenge 6 Take it easy this track is very easy to drive but you can still spin out on a few of the corners Other than that It's pretty simple , There are so many corners you can cut again and get away with it . I used Kers off the first and last corners.

This achievement could of been harder but still is a nice challenge

I would say overall it's rated at 7/10 demanding little short of perfection but you get a nice buzz when you unlock it !

Any suggestions feel free to post them . I'm pretty sure there are a few mistakes in here . This is my 1st full guide so any help would be nice.
Edit 1 Changed difficulty of wet challenges after track grip was increased when wet in Tu1.
Corrected a few mistakes too.

In addition to this change your fuel mix to rich to give you a small boost

Seemed I gained roughly half a second a lap on most circuits with it, nice guide anyways :)

For 'Flying Fernando' (Challenge 5) - you don't have to win the race to get the gold medal. I lost the lead to Alonso on the final lap, but still finished second behind him for a one-two and got gold.

Also, switching to the Rich fuel mix makes a big difference!

Yeah It is very skill based . I tried to rate it as best I could.
I think since the Tu they changed the way ways cars handle on some tracks the level of grip was improved.
I couldn't rate any above an 8 because you can leave assists on and you have a flashback.

How do i do this? I'm using a controller, the closest I've gotten to Kimi is like three seconds, i beat Hamilton, I can't even get past the first few corners against Button, and I lose 2 seconds a lap to Vettel, how am I supposed to do this? I've tried each of these about a dozen times and I'm having absolutely no luck whatsoever, and it's rather quite frustrating the bonkers out of me. I would vastly appreciate any additional tips apart from Rich fuel mix and cutting corners.

I'm not sure I can personally offer much more help than that . It really is just learning the best breaking lines same with any racing game. Like I said I pick up stuff quick so it took little practice . I can't comment on what your skill level is.
You have just got to practice. It took me a fair few tries on a few of them.

Great guide. I had trouble with catching Kimi and Schumacher but this guide helped me tremendously. This is the first time I've picked up an F1 title in around 12 years and I needed a little bit of help, and I found it here. So thank you. Tremendous guide. Thank you, once again!

Just got them all done, thanks for tips. One thing that helped me on the Schumacher race is that I notice sometimes you do an instant replay drivers can spin out for no reason and that is exactly what I managed to do. V. Lucky!

!!Think twice, before attemting, because you have only 1 flashback (if it wasn't used)!!
On Kimi challenge, I was able to cut last corner on very low speed without penalty, when was overtaking Kimi (or a group at the end of the starting lap), But it's doable and need some practice.

My tips for Spa:
- Most important: make sure you use Rich Fuel Mix. Press 3 times Up on D-pad as soon as you get control of the car
- Try to be less than 1 sec. behind an opponent before the long straight so you can use DRS.
- Use KERS when you exit 1st corner and start of long straight
- Drive clean and don't cut corners

For Challenge 6 (Simply The Best): the KERS boost at the stated locations help a lot. My advice is to always make sure you're within a second of the guy in front of you in the DRS zone and keep the laptimes around 1:40.000 - 1:41.500. This helped a lot and was able to catch Schumacher on lap 54, giving lots of time to get around him and get clear. However from all these challenges, I'd say this one is the most luck-based as sometimes the traffic will hold him up and he'll drop back faster, or the traffic won't affect him at all. I saw him finish 2nd and 3rd a few times in my various attempts at this challenge. +1 for the guide, very helpful.

I'm trying to get this achievement at the moment and really struggled with the 1st scenario so thought I'd post some info on this.

As the author of the previous solution mentioned, practise makes perfect and you need to learn the track and breaking points. You can cut corners and risk penalties, but it's up to you! I only cut one corner and it wasn't deliberate, which is explained below.

As you take control of the car, you're approaching the last chicane and there are 5 cars in front of you.. I found that how you get through this first section will really affect the rest of the race and determine if you will catch Kimi because it's really easy to get held up. The track sweeps to the left when you start. If you're using auto gears like I was, then shift down manually as you come out of the sweep and use about 15-20% KERS - you won't be able to use it all between exiting the chicane and the start line anyway. This will help you catch the cars a little before entering the chicane.

Use your remaining KERS as you exit the chicane and cross the line, but don't use any once it's topped up- save it.

Basically, you want to be in ATLEAST 11th position as you come out of the first bend on your first lap. Easier said than done! It is possible to get into 10th, but the downside of this is Rosberg and Massa are someway up the road and you won't be able to use DRS on the straight.

Once you're out of the first bend, ideally in 11th, sit tight and as you progress up the hill, listen to your engine revs - just over half way up the hill, it's worth downshifting, then when the track levels, use ALL your KERS and open DRS. You'll take 10th by the end of the straight. Your split time needs to be atleast -2.5 ideally.

So now you're chasing Rosberg and Massa. I didn't catch them until the chicane at the end of this lap. Just remember not to overdrive the car on your way round. I tended to overdrive in sector 2, especially in the sequence of bends towards the end if the sector, but try to keep to the racing line and don't be afraid to break! Your split time at the end of sector 2 needs to be atleast -5 seconds.

Once at the chicane, I was on the back of Rosberg as we exited, and overtook on the first bend of lap 2, by going in tight. Note that Lap time needs to be less than 1.54. I was on about 1.53.2. The AI always break early into the first bend. I was within a second of Massa as we went back up the hill, and as before, opened DRS and used KERS to catch and pass on the straight.

Kimi is now ahead of you, but there's another car a lap or 2 down to pass as well. Don't expect to reach Kimi until the end of this lap. I had caught up to him by the final chicane, as with the others, but I outbreaked myself and ended up cutting the second half of it. I'm not sure whether I lost or gained time doing this as I'm quite sure I would have been within a second of him as we crossed the line anyway. Lap time was around 1.53.5 mark again. I think it's pretty safe to assume that unless you're close enough to use DRS on the straight in the first sector, you're not going to catch him.

So, you guessed it, the same approach when going up the hill in the first sector, shift down, use KERS and open DRS to catch and pass. Kimi actually came right across the track to block me as we reached the chicane, more so than anyone else had, but I outbreaked him anyway and was able to get in front. Then just cruise to the finish line!

Good luck! :)

Best tip I can give for Spa is to make sure you use Rich Fuel Mix. Press 3 times Up on D-pad at the start. It makes a huge difference you can shave off 0.5 to 1 sec. per lap with Rich Mix.

To earn a gold medal, you need to beat the champion on hard mode. There are 6 scenarios, one for each champion. The only tough one is the Kimi Raikkonen challenge (The Iceman Returns), the others are very easy and all involve some kind of tyre situation (you always have better tyres than your team-mate). Beat the champion on hard in all 6 scenarios and this trophy will unlock.

Visit this guide for a guide on how to complete each Champions Mode event.
