How to unlock the Hardcore achievement in F1 2012 - Definitive Guide
First of all, do not be afraid of this achievement, it really isn't that hard. If you managed to get gold in every race of the championsmode, then this will be a cakewalk.
Basically I went with the solution of DigiGizmo, I just wanted to add a few things.
You can choose between 7 setups for each race, I will name them the following:
"-3 -2 -1 0 +1 +2 +3" 0 is the starting setup.
1. Race, Monza:
First of all, pick Caterham and choose Senna as your rival [Good racers may as well pick Massa already]. I managed to qualify for Poleposition and was able to win the race afterwards. Use the setup which is completely on the right side, with that you will have a better acceleration and more top speed, +3. As Monza has only a few corners this is the perfect setup. Remember that you can cut the first corner of the Ascari, which will give you a needed boost to your time! You are able to win this race, tho it is not needed, the season challenge will get easier later on.
2. Race, Spa Francochamps:
Now this one is tricky. I only qualified on the 12th position but was able to gain some positions back in the first corner of the race. The KI seems to be bad especially in the first sector of this race, so make use of it. I finished on 5th though got lucky as Massa was behind me the whole race and I was able to block him. Use the setup +1 setup as Spa has a good amount of corners in which you will need some speed, +3 is an absolute no go here. It is definitely doable to get some points in this race, just don't focus on winning as it is almost impossible.
3. Race, Silverstone:
Go for the Williams cockpit and use the +1 setup. Pick Massa as your rival. The KI seems to be bad in the last sector which is great as the DRS zone is in the first sector as well. You should be able to qualify for the top ten, maybe even Poleposition (which I got here as well). This race can be a bit of a challenge if you aren't able to get out of the DRS zone. This circuit has a fast left - right - left - right passage of which you can take the first two corners which almost top speed.. don't break, just simply pull the finger away from RT, in the third corner you need to break slightly to get perfectly out of this curve combination. You are able to win some time here as well.
4. Race, Montreal:
Simple race, use the +2 setup and go for the poleposition. You should be able to win this one without problems. The KI seems to be bad in the first two sectors so make use of that.
5. Race, Austin Texas:
Jump into the Ferrari, and take the person as your rival which is closest to your points. For me it was Hamilton. This race is simple as well, you only need to get the hang out of the first sector.. you can get through almost the whole sector without breaking at all, in fact you only need to break 2 times here. The KI doesn't seem to be fast in any sector, use the +1 setup and destroy them. You should be able to win this race.
6. Race, Interlagos:
Now it's getting tricky. Use the setup -3 as it will be absolutely needed here. First of all, do not break and try to steer at the same time, EVER. Also, do not accelerate if your car is on a curb or on the grass, EVER. You will spin, every time. Those are the most important rules with wet conditions, try to be careful and keep those in mind. I managed to qualify for the 3rd position and was able to get to #1 in the first sector of the race. It is hard to win this race as the person behind you will give you pressure, all the time. It is doable to win this race, but absolutely not needed, so don't worry.
7. Race, Melbourne:
Pick the +1 setup. Jump in the car of your past rival as this will kill him off from the championship (for me it was Hamilton). Now choose the next rival depending on his points again, for me it was Alonso. The KI doesn't seem to be so good in the second and in the first sector, though they are somewhat "godlike" in the last 3-4 corners of this race. You should be able to qualify in the top5 and afterwards you should be able to win the race.
8. Race, Suzuka:
I won the championship here already, picked the 0 setup and went into the race. The KI is really bad on this circuit. I got the poleposition with more than 2 seconds gap to the 2nd car. The race itself shouldn't give you trouble either, just get the hang out of the first sector and it's curve combination. This part of the circuit is kind of the same as the one I mentioned in the Silverstone solution.
9. Race, Hockenheim:
If needed, change the cockpit to your rival team. Pick the -3 setup, I managed to qualify for the 4th position and ended the race on the 2nd place. There is no need to win this race as you should have a good amount of points already. If you have to win, then try to get hang out of the first 2 corners and get them perfectly. The KI doesn't seem to be so good at all in the first 2 sectors, though if you make a mistake like i did you won't be able to catch up anymore.
10. Race, Abu Dhabi:
Another easy race, pick the 0 setup and go for the poleposition. The KI seems to be good in the first sector, though they aren't that good in the next two. You should be able to win this race without much trouble.
Hope this helps.
I only wanted to give you some hints about the KI, some corners and most of all the setups as those are absolutely needed to pull off good times in the races.
If that wouldn't have happened there'd still have been a 4 points difference between me and Hamilton if he'd been 2nd!
Amazingly I didn't get a penalty, as it has actually glitched on me in the past, it counted a non-contact off-track event when an opponent gave under pressure as a collision a while back.
A good tip for everyone. If you qualify good, but mess the race up, once the race finishes and the 1st race result screen comes up, DO NOT HIT A again, instead dashboard, and you can do the race again! I found that out when I'd run out of flashbacks, and gave it a try after crossing the finish. If you hit A twice so the Championship results screen comes up, it's too late.
Season Challenge - HARD
Reminder: you can enable all the assists that you need!
You can pick one out of three teams, HRT, Marussia and Caterham. Pick Caterham since the other two don't have KERS!
First rival that I have chosen was one of the Williams guys. Race him out in the first two races, this is possible (i'm a medium skilled driver) do not expect to finish in the top 10. If you have beaten Senna/Maldonado you can accept the offer from team Williams to drive for them.
From now on you are able to qualify within the top 10 or even pole position.
As for your next rival you might want to choose Massa, not superfast, but a Ferrari that is better then your Williams. Use your replay or restart session to be high within qualifying top 5. You can use KERS at the start to get in front of everyone.
Beat Massa and join the Ferrari. This will make the rest of your Season Challenge a bit easier... though if you hate rain races like me (there are two of them, Brasil (Interlagos) and Germany (Hockenheim) you might want to settle for a top 10 position instead of a win. I did stick with Ferrari but you might want to challenge untill your with your favorite top-team.
At the end of the Season you will deserve this achievement, good luck.
Thanks for the Massa tip.
Maybe another tip for those having difficulties staying with Ferrari. When you race with Ferrari (after Caterham and Williams), always pick the driver in second place for your rival. Beat him and move to that team as you take the place of your rival, so he will not be scoring points for the next 2/3 races. Only change to Ferrari, Redbull or McLaren as a team.
Do not forget you can use your KERS defensively as well (you probably will need it in the DRS zone, defending off an attack).
then move on to the next one. with them guaranteed to not score in two races, you can eliminate them from title contention basically.
You will earn this trophy when you win the World Drivers Championship on Hard AI difficulty. Luckily, you don't need to worry about a complicated workaround like what was possible in the previous F1 games as you can use all the driving aids you need. The trophy will pop once you Mathematically cannot lose the championship.
Hard difficulty means you will start the season on either caterham, HRT ot Marussia. Make sure you get out of them as quick as possible and upgrade to better teams quickly so you can win races more easily. You can use AI in "Amateur" so the Hard here is starting from the bottom teams. These will unlock when you achieve enough points to be champion even if it is not the last race (i.e., if it is mathematically impossible for anyone else to overcome your current points).
