How to unlock the Easier than Expected? achievement in F1 2015 - Definitive Guide

The pro season removes all assists and forces you into the cockpit view, if this isn't your normal driving style (like me) you will struggle to get to grips with manual gears and the lack of visibility

The description is a little misleading in that if you qualify 16th it will not count, basically you have to make it to Q2 making the lowest grid position you can get 15th.

OK, so I struggled with this until I found a neat little trick.

Firstly, you ARE able to start over and qualify for the same race over and over.
What I mean is that you can get to Q2 in the Australian GP and then start the season over and do it again another 4 times (from what I have found qualifying has to end, retire from Q2 and let race day start for it to count)
The benefit of this is that you only learn one track, when to shift gears and how to take the corners so getting a good time becomes easier

Secondly, and here's the trick I used, even though you don't get flashbacks you can abuse the mid-session save feature.
It pretty much works the same as a flashback!

There are two ways to abuse this, what I did was save before the last two corners of your out lap to ensure you get a good run into the starting straight (DRS open and fuel mix to 3), if you mess up reload the save and try again.
I did this after every couple of corners, save when you do well and reload when you don't.

The other way is to save after you mess up, load that save straight away and you will basically be in the 'flashback' replay thing and can start over - this way has a risk though, if you wreck your car you have no save to re-load so I would suggest method 1

Actually getting a good enough time to get into Q2 is up to you but I hope this will help

For the Aussie GP I needed a time lower than 1:30.500 usually so if you do that one then that's what you should aim for.

EDIT:
Don't forget that these will be long race weekends, therefore you will have to go through, or retire from, the three practice sessions before starting Q1

If it is raining on qualifying day retire for the session, then retire from the race before starting the season over. I found if I restarted without doing this it would be raining again ... only had to do it once though

Finally I'd suggest going out on track straight away, there will be 3 cars that come out right behind you, let them pass and you will have a clear track so no pressure (the AI drivers tended to bash into me a lot)

EDIT2:
Sean Reinhardl has commented with a car setup, not tested by myself but others have said it makes this easier so give that a go if you are struggling

^ that set up is great.... but yikes. I posted a sub 1:30 time and made P14 over P16 by just 0.009 seconds.... it can be a tiny margin. Now to do it 4 more times....

Great idea to use the save/load function as a free unlimited rewind. Would be much much harder to do without it.

That said, Australia is not an easy track to learn even with the rewinds. It does have the benefit of being the starting track, but I'm finding it much easier to get into Q2 at Canada. Obviously that does mean having to skip the first five races each time, but I think it's still faster than having to learn Australia's tricky corners.

Anyone looking to do this, don't bother trying it on Austria. It takes over 30 minutes to get to qualifying and there's a 90% chance it will be raining. It's a very easy track, but not worth the time it takes to have a shot in dry weather.

So what tracks do you guys recommend? I don't want to give up as this is the last achievement I need in this game but I've tried Australia for countless hours and I'm still around 1 second too slow... Some say Austria, Canada, Monza... Not sure which one to try next... Thanks for any advice you guys might have besides Australia.

@Bongo. I disagree, I did all my laps at Austria. To get to Austria GP takes around 15 minutes. To get Austria qualifying without rain, you turn auto save off before proceeding to that GP, and reload save if needed until you get no rain b :)

I found a different method for this which involves Turning Autosave OFF. This will allow you to quickly replay your favourite track 4 times in a row.

What I did was skip all races until I got to AUSTRIA.

In my opinion this is one of the quickest, easiest tracks to master with no assists, and no race line. You can also get a lot of practice in Austria while going for other achievements, such as 500 laps in Europe.

So anyway, once you have practiced enough, go to MY F1 & turn Autosave OFF.
Then start Q1 using this setup for the Mercedes (save it as a custom setup):

Now, the only problem with turning off Auto Save is that you cannot save mid session and build a perfect lap. U might need that for most other tracks but not here.

Start your out-lap and take it easy, reminding yourself of the corners. As you come through the start / finish straight - push cn_up cn_up cn_up to select RICH FUEL.

Now u just need to put in a good lap. You can probably get 2 laps with Rich fuel but I found you have a better chance to get in the top 15 if you retire after the first lap. Not sure if its RNG or what, but the qualifying bar will rise after lap 2.

Once you retire, check that you are in at least 15th place and then continue.
Immediately retire from Q2 and then start the race. Once it begins, Pause & Quit.
(The achievement tracker only seems to move after the race starts).

Now - Careful!... Once back to main menu, dashboard & quit the game.
Restart the game and immediately turn AUTO SAVE OFF - again. The game will always start with Auto Save ON for some reason.

Continue with your Pro Season which will start again at Q1 in Austria. Qualify again and repeat the above steps 4 times.

This obviously takes a bit of messing around but I found the achievement much easier with a comfortable track like Austria. I even tried Canada but had no luck. Shorter tracks mean less time to make mistakes.

I hope this helps anyway - Peace out

I was debating whether to try this on Austria, Brazil, or Canada. The top solution at the moment has Australia, which is a far trickier track to master than those three. I'll try Canada first (seeing as its the earliest in the season) and see how it goes.

I'm not convinced turning autosave off is beneficial to be honest though. The benefits of being able to save after each good corner surely outweighs the having to get back to the race again...

Yes, the only benefit of Autosave OFF is that you can stay on your favourite track after getting credit for qualifying. It seems it will not count until you advance to next race - which will then Autosave... and you will have to skip tracks all over again. Make sense? Also Austria is so easy you don't need a mid-session save.

After much trial and error I've come to the conclusion that I personally need autosave on. It's not that the lap times required are out of my reach, but having to do the garage setup, the out lap, then a reasonably-flawless timed lap, all with the AI drivers getting in your way from time to time just to mix things up, makes things much more frustrating.

My best track is Australia, but I just couldn't get a good lap together in race conditions. So I ended up turning auto save off at Monaco (the race before Australia), just to make sure qualifying was dry at Australia. Once I got to Australia dry qualifying I turned autosave back on, and used the save/load free rewinds to get the required times.

Obviously this does mean having to exit out of the starting five races before each attempt, but it's more forgiving in the end. 2/5 done, and I'll do the rest tomorrow. Thanks for the solution anyway, it definitely helps not to go for Australia in any case.

The reason the game restarts with Autosave on after you dashboard is because after turning Autosave off, you never saved the game again to save that you turned it off. So the last time the game was saved, Autosave was on, so reloading your last save it's always on again.

Easier way: save before crossong the finishing line. Upload your game to cloud (fully close the game). Load your game and set the time (sub 1.11.500), then retire from session. If you placed in top15, then go in Q2 and retire, if not - try again (top15 time may vary). After your percentage goes up, go and delete your local save (don't close the game). Then sync your save - and you will be before finishing line again. Do 4 more time.

Thanks for the tips @Sensei Neo and @Hurball. Big ups!
Retiring immediately after posting your lap time is a fantastic exploit. If you can squeeze out a sub 1.11.000 lap at Spielberg (AUT) you'll make top 15 every time.

Thank you for this solution. I tried Australia for a decent amount of hours with no luck as its just too technical even though i like the track. I then tried Canada for a few hours with decent headway but still lacking the extra speed needed to get in top 15 even if its one of my favourite tracks. Then followed this solution and after a couple of hours of practice i eventually got into top 15 with the car setup provided as well. Usually did better on my 2nd lap than my first to get in top 15.
The turning off auto save works, i did it on Canada race and then retired the race and the 3 practice from there for Austria qualifying. Worked like a charm. Wish i tried this earlier, would of saved me a bunch of time.

If you struggle with this there's site with great car setups, used them for all F1 games.

This may or may not help others. After trying to go out at the start of qualifying the AI were super quick if I was posting quicker then the suggested 1:30:500 above which I was and they were down in the 1:27-1:28s.

I found if you put your setup in (use the setup from the comments in the first solution but don't be afraid to adjust the wing up or down to give you more or less grip as I had mine at 11/11) and go to track between 15:00-15:15 all the AI cars will be pitting and you'll come out behind most of them with a gap and clear track.I also found the AI times would be 1:31-1:32 for the 15 down spot so it gave me a much more easy time to get this achievement. This might not work for everyone as the rng is different most times but it helped me get 3 of the 5 needed.Hopefully this helps someone

Straight forwards you either just need to qualify into Q2 or you can knock the AI off the track until you are high enough to reach Q2 see below for more details, This trophy can be done over multiple seasons.

DO THIS WITHOUT THE PATCH SO 18 CARS INSTEAD OF 20 TO MAKE IT EASIER.

For this trophy you actually need to make it into Q2 (Top 15 out of the 18) now seeing as everything is set to elite and no assists etc this makes this trophy very difficult for most people so now ill explain how to get it with little skill involved.

Skip to qualifying and drive straight out at the start of the session you want to really be the first car out so soon as others come out keep as many cars behind you as possible, Now make a bit of a gap and get a bit of speed now slam your brakes on while others behind you hopefully with a bit of luck they will crash and lose a wheel so they can't qualify, If they destroy your vehicle then reload if you are successful at making someone lose a wheel then make a save now.

If anything goes wrong after getting rid of 1 car least you have a save to load so not all is lost you need to do this to 3 cars in total so it puts you 15th knocking AI will sometimes give them penalties so they may not even bother qualifying, Also do not retire sit in the pits and fast forward see what other drivers are doing also check Race Director see who has penalties, You don't even need to set a lap time sometimes AI will get penalties as well and will not even bother going back out on track i got up to 5 x Grid Penalty and still got this trophy so that doesn't matter you just need to get into the top 15 into Q2.

Sometimes even when you don't do the above you will be lucky enough anyway for AI to not even bother setting a lap or get DNF

If you own the digital version then it comes pre-patched. Therefore it is not possible to unpatch to get 18 cars. I found this method impossible. At best I knocked out 1 car before enough had set lap times so I couldn't get it to work.

I ended up practising on Australia until I got a good enough lap time. Once I got in to Q2 I would quit and start again on Australia until I had done it 5 times. I did a full race in Pro Season first so I had enough practise with gears and throttle control.

Austria has a low number of turns and is commonly the easiest to get a good lap time. Mercedes, Ferrari or Williams are the best cars to choose from. I find the Williams the easiest to control both braking and accelerating.

After leaving the pits, change your Fuel setup to a mixture of Rich. This will give you the best performance, and help you to get the fastest time.

You can use mid-session saves. If you perform the turn poorly, load your save. After performing a great turn, save and work on the next turn. You need to be in at least P15 at the end of the qualifying session to move into Q2. Doing this 5 times will get your the achievement.

If after 5 minutes of qualifying, you are still holding at P15 or better, then you likely won't be overtaken. You can save and speed up the time, to reach the end of qualifying if you don't care to get a higher position or improve your time.

It seems to take 5-6 minutes to update the counter in the achievement. Repeat this 4 more times and you will have the achievement.

In my opinion this is the toughest trophy on the game. If you have not yet downloaded the Day 1 patch for the game, ensure that you don’t do so before attempting this trophy. The reason behind this is that if you're a member of , updates are installed automatically on your system, so make sure that you are not signed in when going for this. Below is a workaround that makes getting this trophy slightly easier (credit to Lightsp33d1987)

DO THIS WITHOUT THE PATCH SO THAT THERE ARE 18 CARS INSTEAD OF 20.

For this trophy you actually need to make it into Q2 (Top 15 out of the 18) now seeing as everything is set to elite and no assists makes this trophy very difficult for most people. Here's how to get it with little skill involved.

You don't even need to set a lap time as sometimes AI will get penalties as well and will not even bother going back out on track. I got up to 5 x Grid Penalty and still got this trophy so that doesn't matter you just need to get into the top 15 into Q2.

Sometimes even when you don't do the above you will be lucky enough anyway for AI to not even bother setting a lap or get a DNF.

I think that the easiest route is Italy (Monza) route 13 in the 2014 season, I tried Canada or Austria according to the tips and killed 4 evenings for several hours, then I remembered Italy, it turned out to be the easiest, it only takes 25 minutes to get there!

The easiest track is the Canadian Grand Prix, heat 7.
In Qualification 1, you need to take at least 15th place.
Next, we skip Qualifying 2 and skip the Race.
We start a new championship and in a circle.
Don't forget to save during qualification.

I absolutely agree that we need to race Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team in the 2014 season! However, if you don’t want to spend so long getting to Canada , then you can try on the route that you just know well. For me, this was Australia , where I managed to take 15th place the first time. This option is convenient because the Australian Grand Prix is the opening race of the season, and the track as a whole is not difficult.

I'll add some tips. It is enough to take 16th place in Qualification 1, miss Qualification 2 and the race. I support Canada, 2014 season, and Mercedes. I also support the use of a rich fuel mixture, but I have not changed any other settings. And in conclusion, one more tip from me. On the last turn, after a long straight, on the warm-up lap. You can fly further without slowing down while entering the qualifying lap, thus the speed at the start will be much higher and this can help you win precious seconds, but there is also a minus, it is harder to enter the first turn. I hope it will be useful to someone.

For me, the easiest one is the third track of the 2014 season - Bahrain.
Faster than 1:17 usually puts you around 14th place.
Another trick in Bahrain.
We quickly set the tuning session to maximum speed at the beginning and immediately leave. Someone will come out next to you. We turn on the enriched mixture and stay close behind the opponent before the last turn of the warm-up lap. On the starting straight, using the slipstream, we accelerate and overtake the opponent and drive a fast lap. It is quite possible to go under 1:37 with a slipstream, which guarantees you a place in the top 16.

I got it on a track in Austria (for me it’s the simplest track with the minimum number of turns) season 2014, Mercedes team (the most comfortable steering wheel). At first I rode in timed mode - view from the cockpit, automatic transmission, optimal trajectory. I marked the moment when braking began before a turn (before sharp turns there are signs with a distance of 150, 100 and 50 m), for example, before reaching a certain sign or immediately after passing. I also remembered in which gear each turn was taken. Then he turned on the manual gearbox and began working with it. I took almost all turns one gear higher than on the automatic. The time loss is insignificant, but there are fewer shifts and in a higher gear the car is less susceptible to skidding. Here are my cornering gears: 1-4, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-5, 6-5, 7-4. On the straights I switched to a maximum of 7th gear. Well, then I launched the championship, skipped to Austria and honed every turn in free practice. The only difficult turn was the second one; it was not always possible to pass it well. To get into 16 it is enough to drive in 1.12.200, it can be worse depending on the case. My record is 1.11.300, but I don’t know how it happened, on average I drove for 1.12.000. If it rains during qualifying, then most likely it will end in the end, then you need to have time to change tires and drive a qualifying lap. Once I took 4th place. Well, the main thing is patience and nerves of steel and everything will work out)

Some tips:
1. I completely agree that the best track for getting the trophy is the Canadian Grand Prix track (the easiest track with a minimum number of slow turns where you would most likely lose a lot of time).
2. Practice and learn to complete a lap faster than 01:17:200 - as practice shows, if you meet this time, you will be 90% sure of getting into the top 16.
3. Choose the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team (the fastest cars).
4. I advise you to choose the 2014 season! Yes, there are more competitors in the 2014 season (22 drivers instead of 20 in the 2015 season), but there are more weak teams that will be easier to beat during qualifying.
