How to unlock the Fire and Ice achievement in Microsoft Flight Simulator - Definitive Guide
This is more of a guide to autopilot in this bush trip. Some of these may be easier to only autopilot some to get on course and then fly yourself. Autopilot will take you over some high mountains with a steep decline needed to reach the airport. The legs may be shorter, but expect to spend a little more time replaying them because crashing puts you in odd places like in the water and you have to restart.
To keep things a little cleaner, check my other guide for the Balkans bush trip for some more tips. I would assume you did that one first.
-Click NRST Button
-Click the airport you want on the screen. (SAWL is the first leg) (Hold A to grab the scroll bar on the touch screen and move it down if needed)
-Click Insert into Flight Plan in the pop-up.
-Click Insert at End.
-Click the Direct To button to the right of NRST. (D with an arrow through it)
-Click Activate.
-Click the Nav button.
-Click the ALT SEL knob and set your altitude. I started at 2200.
-Click the VS button.
-Use the Vertical Speed Control knob to set your speed. -Click the center of the wheel so it's less likely to jump to a crazy number.
-Takeoff by increasing the throttle and press left on d-pad when prompted
-Get some height and press Y to engage autopilot. (You can still move the plane a little when turning on autopilot. The plane cuts it close changing course sometimes.)
-Now continue forward to the airport. The VFR map is the only place that shows the flight path with this plane. You can use the cockpit map to watch for how close you are to the airport. This cockpit map is better than the last one with a touch screen. It's much easier to figure out.
Just like the first bush trip, you will need to land manually. Also different, is there isn't a counter telling you how close you are to the airport. You will need to watch the map closer than before.
**If you do not get a completion screen and the game seems locked up with just a cursor, you will need to quit the game. It's still counted for me the few times it's happened. It's usually on a grass runway.
Like the other guide mentions, this thing will faceplant instantly. Do not hold X to stop the plane for more than 1 second. Turning the engines off has produced mixed results for me. If you crash on leg 1, you will need to taxi it around trees and take a long way to the airport because this game won't let you restart the first leg. Even knowing about it didn't stop it from happening
Altitude Notes:
Leg 1 - Mostly flat
Leg 2 - 4200 - The runway is closer than it looks after that mountain.
Leg 3 - 3900 - If 3900 isn't enough, it's time to descend and go a little to the left.
Leg 4 - 4500 - Go to the right of the big mountain and follow the river left.
Leg 5 - 3500
Leg 6 - It's sea-level
Leg 7 - Get to 3000 then mostly flat
Leg 8 - 7200 I tried going around the mountain, but there isn't a good way.
Leg 9 - 3600 Very hard to see. I landed close by and drove to it.
Leg 10 - 6500 - First mountain I had to go around. Approach the runway from the lake at the end.
Leg 11 - 7200. You can follow the river and not bother with going that high.
Leg 12 - 6100
Leg 13 - 8700 - I went around the taller mountain to easier approach the runway.
Leg 14 - I went around the mountains on this one. It's short and it's easier to follow the river to the runway than go over the mountains.

This is a great guide but I'd like to add a few things. If you enable NAV when mentioned above it'll just disable when you enable AP, so make sure you look and turn NAV back on after enabling AP or you'll just fly straight to nowhere.
Depart -> Arrival - Elevation (that Fuzzmeister J provided)
Z00T -> SAWL - 2200
SAWL -> SAWO - 4200 (be careful, there are two airports very close together here)
SAWO -> SCNY - 3900 (very short, grassy runway. Pull back when slow enough and pump the brakes)
SCNY -> SCAZ - 4500 (another short, grassy runway)
SCAZ -> SCDW - 3500
SCDW -> SCID - sea-level
SCID -> SCNT - 3000
SCNT -> SAWC - 7200 (large mountain closer to the destination airport)
SAWC -> SCDV - 3600
SCDV -> SCIO - 6500 (this is the first one I had to take over and dodge a mountain)
SCIO -> SCOH - 7200 (had to manual above/around the mountains)
SCOH -> SCEY - 6100
SCEY -> SCBR - 8700
SCBR -> SCHR - 5500 (I went up and over)

Finished this trip last night, no achievement. Never hit back on track or crashed.

Same goes for other bush trips as in this one. There's 14 legs of the trip. Most of them are really short, being 20 minutes or under, but a couple are longer than an hour. All in all, they add up to a little over 7 hours. This means that you will have to dedicate at least about 8 hours of time just to get this achievement. But probably a lot more, as you'll most likely fail and have to redo some legs.
They do not have to be done in one sitting. As a matter a fact, I'm fairly certain that the individual legs don't even have to be done in one sitting, as in you can quit out in the middle of one and pick up mid-flight. But I wouldn't risk that.
The only thing you can do to void this achievement is by pressing the "Back On Track" button on the VFR map. Anything else is fine.
This plane is a beast to land. Which is why this Bush Trip's ratio is the highest. If you go in too fast, your brakes will tip the plane over if you use them too hard. Also, if your plane will potentially flip over if you're going too fast upon landing. Even if you use your brakes cautiously. You have to turn your engine to idle way before you're going to land, and slowly coast into the runway. I like to be going about 65 KTS or lower.
To refuel, which you need to, go into control options, and search for 'Repair and Refuel'. Then bind it to any key that's not already in use. I used "`" Press they key when you're in the air and your gas tank is refilled to 100%
Fortunately, they've recently added a "Continue" button if you crash. Unfortunately, this seems to not work all the time. Sometimes it'll put you back in the air and others it will put you in the middle of some trees and you'll have to restart the leg.
Edit:
There's a couple ways you can figure out where to go without using the "Back On Track"!
Less useful in my opinion is this.
if you're in external view, there'll be a compass in the upper-left hand corner. As long as you're aligned with 'X' and 'Y' on that (make sure you're going straight on the purple line. and make sure the line is not split) If you're in internal cockpit view, it should be on your left monitor.
This isn't as useful as the other option because sometimes your waypoints get messed up and tell you to go 100 or more NM out of the way. (un-necessary) Also, it makes you follow the actual waypoints, which lead you out of your way a little bit.
The way I do it is to just fly directly to the destination airport. If you zoom out on your VFR map, you should be able to see the destination airport in your navlog and the airport that you're at. You can just fly straight to the destination airport, using the 'Heading' autopilot feature, which is the fastest and most reliable way. You can tell which way you're going and exactly where you're at by looking at the map on your right monitor in the internal cockpit view. You'll have a little airplane icon displaying which way you are facing. You can zoom in and out on this map too.
Edit2: (Credit to TheNutman69321) If you are spawned into an impossible area to get out of, you can fix it, unless you're on leg#1. NEVER press the 'Continue' button when you are on leg 1. Instead, restart the entire leg. (quit to menu just to be sure) If you press continue, it will make it so you can never finish the bush trip (until they update it) if you're spawned into an area that you cannot get out of. Sometimes, if you spawn in a bunch of trees, you can get out of it if you're really extremely lucky and try several different ways to take off.
If you're on a leg other than one, continue button can be useful! As sometimes you can take off easily from the area you respawn in. If you spawn in an impossible area here and are stuck, you need to restart from the previous leg, e.g. if you're on 9, start up leg 8, then as soon as leg 8 loads, go back and start up leg 9 again. This will resume you at the beginning of leg 9.
Comment any more information /questions and I'll add it.

I also just completed this today with no achievement. I never clicked on Back on Track however I did use navigation and autopilot for a few legs. I also crashed twice and used continue. My progress for Completionist however, did increase. Seeing as nobody has unlocked this achievement since November, I'd say it is bugged.
Edit: I checked the logbook and redid the legs I crashed on, so everything looks complete in the logbook. Still no achievement. Definitely bugged.

This plane is equipped with autopilot, which means its very easy to set up the aircraft to fly directly to the next airport on the leg.
Under the main screen in cockpit you'll find a "NRST" button that will display the closest airports, use the touchscreen to scroll until you find the identifier for the next airport and select it.
Once you've done that you'll see two options, one is a D with an arrow through it, when means Direct to. The other option will add that point to a flight plan.
Choose the Direct to option, then activate it on the next screen that pops up. Pressing NRST or BACK will show the map again.
Your navigation will now draw an imaginary line from your location to the destination and you'll see the purple arrow on the left side of the screen gain its middle. The top of the cockpit display will also indicate information about distance, time to go and Track. Which can be helpful if your autopilot isn't doing what you want.
To set up the autopilot, look below the main screen again and you'll see an array of buttons.
You'll want to click NAV, so the plane follows the Direct to track you selected previously, FD can be helpful to show you the attitudes to fly on screen but isn't necessary, then we need to select an altitude to fly at. On the right side of these buttons is the ALT SEL knob, you can turn this and select any altitude you want, for some legs that take you over top of mountains, you may need 5000 feet or more. And to make the autopilot climb to that altitude safely, I select VS to enable a vertical speed mode and use the slider just to the left of that button to select +500 ft/minute.
With all of that set, you can take off, begin your climb and enable the autopilot once safely in the air using Y on a controller or whatever shortcut you have to enable AP. You can also press the AP button in cockpit.
Take care not to let the autopilot fly you into the ground on activation, you may need to help hold the nose up briefly until it gets settled. If it really fights what you want, deactivate it, climb higher and try again with more altitude.
Hope this helps someone out.
