How to unlock the The Hunt is my Mistress achievement in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor - Game of the Year Edition - Definitive Guide

Credit for this solution must go to SUPER BOCHMAN, who posted the solution that worked best for me on the original game. I made a few tweaks to his system, so I felt like I should post them. As a note, I completed this with almost 4 minutes left (plenty of time to feel comfortable), and over 14,000 points (not including the 1000 bonus for 40 minute completion. Let's get started

EDIT: If you are having trouble, I suggest reading through some of the comments below. Players have listed some of the methods and small changes that worked for them, and they might work for you too. I did not include everything in the solution, as it is already long enough, but credit and thanks goes to everyone who contributed their tips and tricks. A big thanks to Warboy925 for his Graug Bait map.

To play any of the trials, select play from the main menu, select Trials of War, and scroll down to Test of the Wild. In order to complete Test of the Wild, you must

- Kill all 5 War Chiefs
- Kill all 20 Captains.

In order to get this achievement, however, you must qualify for the Elite Leaderboards, which means you have to complete the following optional objectives:

- Complete in 40 minutes
- Kill 10 Captains with monsters
- Earn 13000 points

Here is a quick guideline on the steps required to complete this method:

1 - Gather info on all 20 captains. All you need is their locations, so you can get this by interrogating regular Uruks.

2 - Gather intel on Warchiefs until you find Kugor Beast Hunter, the masked Uruk with the crossbow that shoots fire arrows. *Might be called Zugor Beast Butcher now*

3 - Hop on a Graug. There is a Graug bait hanging off the bottom of the bridge directly west from the Forge Tower you start out at.

4 - Begin from the bottom right of the map and move clockwise, killing every Captain with your Graug. Avoid any power struggles, just stay on your Graug. Continually use the map/Saurons Army screen to plan out the closest Captain, and try not to miss any. A lot more detail on this to come

5 - Go to the mission for Kugor and draw him out. You need to do this quickly. Once Kugor has appeared (don't worry about bodyguards) you need to make him submit without killing him. See below for details.

6 - Use Kugor to riot against the other 4 Warchiefs and any remaining captains.

That's it! Now let's go into some major detail here to ensure you get this with as few failed attempts as possible (I did it on my second try with this method).

1 & 2 - Intel Phase:

You need to gather locations on all 20 captains and full Intel on Warchiefs until you reveal Kugor Beast Hunter. You start on the East-most Forge Tower on the map, so look down and to the left. There will always be one or more Uruks here. The method that works fastest is using Shadowstrike (cn_LT+cn_A) to swoop over and knock down all but one Uruk, grab the remaining one, gather Intel on a captain, then kill him. Continue doing this until all the Uruks around you are dead. Try to avoid larger groups, as fighting is wasting time. If you do get in a fight, build up your combo and use combo brand (cn_A+cn_B) to thin the crowd, then grab your branded Uruks and continue gathering captain locations. Travel around between this spot and the surrounding areas, such as the two ridges the to the West. The Uruks will respawn around here fairly regularly in small groups.

While you are doing this, keep an eye out for green Intel. There is always some either down where I told you to start, or on one of the two ridges to the west. The Warchief you want to reveal is Kugor Beast Hunter, so once you get Intel on him, you can just use any more Intel you happen by for Captain locations. Feel free to hop on cargors to move quickly around the area, just be sure to kill them. This racks up points early on so you don't have to rush at the end. You can brand a full group of cargors, then press cn_down to kill all the ones except the one you're riding.

This process should take around 8 minutes. Personally it usually takes me almost 9 because I like to kill a few extra Caragors. As soon as you are done, you can move on to the next step.

3 & 4 - Graug Time

Get on a Graug as quickly as possible. The closest Graug bait is underneath the bridge directly to the West of the starting Forge Tower. Shoot it, then start moving West as every time I used it, the Graug came from the west. Shadow mount him, then you can start your killing spree.

Open up the Sauron's Army page and look for whichever captain is nearest to the south east corner of the map. Use wraith vision to spot and mark the target. Chase them down and eat them up with cn_Y. Now move clockwise around the map, constantly checking Sauron's Army to plot your course. Try not to miss any Captains along the way, but ignore any power struggles, as these require loosing your Graug.

You can plot a course directly through the southern stronghold, and there is always several captains in here. Keep spamming Wraith vision. I would often find Captains with wraith vision without even realizing they were on my map. If you are really struggling to find one specific captain, it will probably be faster to just leave him for now and move on, don't waste time backtracking.

The north-west stronghold can also be infiltrated completely whilst on your Graug. The only place you can't get to is the back area of the north-east stronghold, so don't even try for those captains. When you're done, you should have at least 10 captain kills, hopefully nearer to 15. I was just over 20 minutes at this point.

5 - Brand Kugor Beast Hunter

Look for Kugor's mission on the map and fast travel to the nearest Forge Tower. Hopefully you get an easy call out mission, just take advantage of skills such as Shadow Strike Kill to get things done as soon as possible. Make sure you are near full on elf-shot when Kugor shows up. Don't worry if he has lots of bodyguards, you will simply be attacking him. Get a good line of site on Kugor and start firing arrows his way (they don't all have to be headshots, building the streak is more important. Once you can, shoot two fire arrows at him, then follow up with one or two more regular arrows. This should knock him to his knees. Run past everything else and up to Kugors prone body, and you will be able to brand him. Immediately command him to start the first riot against another Warchief.

6 - Riots

Go to your first Riot via fast travel and start it up. You start almost every riot from a birds eye view, so you can use this to thin out the herd on the opposing side with Elf Shot. If the Warchief is immune to ranged attacks, feel free to jump down and join the fray. I did this because if you are able to kill the Warchief yourself, you get a ton of points as opposed to letting Kugor do it. When the first warchief is dead, grab Kugor before he leaves and send him off to the next riot, then press cn_down to kill all remaining branded Uruks for points. Rinse and repeat this method.

When it comes to Warchiefs with bodyguards, it's a good idea to find a nearby Graug bait and eat them up. This speeds things up as you can kill them all before any escape. If you kill the Warchief first, another will be promoted. If you're fast, you can eat him too for more points. I did not use this method, as I worried about captains escaping, requiring another riot.

One big note is on the Ghul Keeper. If you just let Kugor take him out, it will take a minute or more off your time. What you want to do is find a Graug or Caragor bait and hop on a monster, as the Ghul Keeper is easily damaged by monsters, plus you get the points for killing him.

Quite a few riots will likely happen in the valley to the right of the southern stronghold. There are two Graug baits very close to here, so you can use these to end the riots very quickly. Always kill your Graug when done. You can fast travel to refresh Graug baits, but sometimes you will get a riot right back in the same spot, and it is much faster to just climb back up and start the next one.

If you kill all the other captains/Warchiefs and still need some points, as unlikely as that is, look for Graug/Caragor baits and call them in. Mount and kill them as quickly as you can, draining your mounts to replenish elf-shot when required. Beasts give tons of points.

To be safe, you should be just below the 12,000 mark when you kill your branded warchief. You get a good amount of points from it, but it would be awful to be a little short when just a few more Caragor kills can give you some quick points. When you're ready, press cn_down with your Warchief in range to finish the test and hopefully unlock this achievement!

That should be it. This achievement is definitely tough, but as I mentioned earlier, I got it on my 2nd try with this method. I hope this helps, feel free to mention what works for you, as everyone is different.

Thumbs up for this solution id have gotten nowhere without it, I really struggled with this achievement, a few times i managed to kill everyone but didnt have enough points and no time to get more, other times i would accidentally kill Kugor or get tied up killing the war chiefs and not be able to finish in time.

I finally completed it with these few adjustments to this solution.

During the intel phase, select to send a death threat to the captains, this shows their location but also increases their point value, they are no harder to kill since you are using the graug, this fixed my points problem.

Also before doing the tour of the map and killing the 20 captains, i found Kugor, branded him and set up the first riot, doing this at an early stage helped since sometimes i would waste minutes by getting intel on the wrong war chiefs or kill Kugor by mistake, doing this early let me know if i was making good time and it wasnt too bad to reset if i had bad luck.

I would add that luck played a big factor for me, sometimes captains wouldnt spawn in their area or there were not enough uruks nearby the spawn and i had to waste time getting intel.

On my winning run i was lucky, loads of uruks were around the spawn point, i found Kugor on my first try and many of the captains were grouped together, the remaining captains that had to be killed by duel/riot all were vulnerable to ranged attacks so i took them out easy.

Some really good points there, I like the Death Threat idea for points. Not sure why I was so far ahead on points, but I had quite a few runs before getting the chievo, so I had some experience on what to do. I see what you mean about branding Kugor early, if you fail you can just restart right off the bat. For a test, I branded him 10 times in a row and was successful, so it might just be a practice thing. I'll likely use some of your tips in the solution, I'm glad it came together for you.

Here's my batch of tips, for those players like myself who will not manage to get this on their second try...

1. Using death threats instead of information has an added benefit: it will cause better runes to drop, and these runes persist across all of your attempts (even if you don't pick them up: my map looked like a rune junkyard when I finally popped the achievement). Some runes are laughably overpowered, like the one that increased all of my sword damage by 50%, so don't be surprised if your attempts start to go a lot smoother once you've epic'ed out your rune slots. So I would strongly, strongly suggest at least starting out with death threating until you're swimming in epic runes, particularly the two that increase sword and bow damage by 50%.

2. While using death threats the captains will always be surrounded by groups of enemies: these enemies are unlikely to cause you to lose fights, but they are likely to get eaten with the graug swipe instead of the captain, cutting 3+ seconds off of the timer for each one. I found it enormously helpful to blast the group of enemies with the targeted graug vomit (left trigger to aim, right trigger to fire) on my way towards the captain- none of the standard enemies seem to survive this, rendering them a non-threat to your clock. All enemies covered in the barf will either fall to their knees or stagger around in agony. The staggering ones are edible: the ones on the ground are not. More than likely the captain will fall to his knees and sit there for ~5-10 seconds: this is a pain, but it's far safer to accept that you will lose these seconds than to risk losing 15+ eating non-captains. It has the added benefit of ensuring that those Beast Killer captains don't get the chance to wail your graug to death while you fumble around with eating normal uruks. If you manage to blast the captain before he notices you, it also might let you skip the dialog that normally triggers when the fight commences. I'm not sure if the timer ticks during this dialog, but even if it doesn't no one wants to hear "MAN IS FOOL! MAN DIE!" for the 35th time.

3. The back of the northeast fortress, for me at least, was always littered with 3+ captains. I found that it was an enormous time savings to always make that the final point in my graug-run, jumping off to get back there on foot. With any luck you won't find any captains that are both ranged and melee immune, but just in case I would highly recommend going on a brand spree back there to get your own normal uruk army (who somehow aren't subject to the captain's melee immunity).

4. To save yourself some tears, try to always have the first riot against the Ghul Keeper. He single-handedly denied me the achievement several times, either stationing his riot where I could find no graugs, or having graugs inexplicably not spawn in after hitting the bait, etc.

5. As mentioned above, this achievement will always be heavily luck based. One of the primary factors that I found affecting my ability to complete it was the chance that the captains engaged in power struggles would also be followers of the warlords. I got rather insanely lucky in my successful run, only having to initiate one riot against a standard captain.

This achievement or rather whole dlc is just fucking stupid. I was following your guide, but holy shit does gathering intel take FOREVER. When I finally got a graug It got killed because of a faggot captain hiding in the tents like a glitchy piece of shit.

I know, it can be a real son of a bitch. Sorry you're having so many troubles, this took me a lot of tries myself. You'll get there with some determination, I managed it and I'm not exactly a skilled gamer. I believe!

I just finished this achievement today, and i have one tip for you guys. When and if an enemy captain has the "fear of graugs" weakness and they turn green and start retreating, you can just run over them with your Graug. No need to try to catch them and eat'em, since you can just charge over them. They will instantly die.

That is one I'm not sure on, It was always Hunter for me. I even tried a google search, only hunter comes up. Perhaps they've done an update in recent weeks and changed some things. If you notice any other inconsistencies please let me know, I'll try and change the solution to suit.

I also only have "Zugor Beast Butcher" showing up for me. Never did I come across "Kugor Beast Hunter" in this Trial or the actual DLC campaign.

Anyways, one of Zugor's Strengths is "Rapid Bomber - Shoots multiple shots in rapid succession that explode on impact" and my question is if that guy would be okay? Seems similiar to the one being described in the solution.

I haven't started serious attempts yet, because of this. I only started to test the 1st stages and timed them, so I could see if I need to improve. If anybody can help me out there, it would be appreciated.

Yeah thats the same guy. They seem to have changed his name recently to confuse people. I'll update the solution to reflect this. Let me know if you run across anything else different. As I write this, I wonder if region has something to do with it....

Thank you so much for the walkthrough! I got it on my 3rd run. 2nd run I killed of zuchor because I thought I had all the warchiefs.... found out 1 was still black, no intel, overlooked it. That sucked, had no time doing his mission and killing him.

I used darksquals walkthrough with everyone else's tips. I have a few tips of my own I'd like to share.

1. You only need 1 intel on a warchief. Even though all 5 of them are blackened out you can see who zuchor is. He always has the most followers, 4 I think, so you can see how many lines connect and you can trace zuchor. When starting a riot with zuchor you can do that with an unknown warchief. Saves some time in the beginning looking for intel.

2. I took advantage of my focus to stop time and have a look around or walk some little bits without wasting precious seconds. Also used it to look from the tower to see if you can cross some distance with shadowstrike, or take your time tracing a caragor. My riots were scattered a lot across the map, so I had too fast travel to a tower and walk some couple hundred feets, useless waste of time. To note I had the ruin Wind Rider equipped so focus would recover on a shadow strike move. I also used it after the Riot was resolved so I could easily walk up to zuchor, grab him, start another riot.

3. When you, just as it so happened to me, have a lot of power struggles so you cant find the captains and eat them with your graug. Just kill them when they are bodyguards of a warchief, as mentioned before, easiest with graug baiting. If they are not bodyguards I used zuchor to riot with them, I think that is the fastest way possible. Had to do some 6-8riots at the end, but finished in 36mins.

Thanks everyone!

+1 for the solution and a BIG thank you to Alcapwn6969 for the tips about Death Threats and projectile vomiting on followers of captains.

It ended up taking me 6 or 7 tries before I finally got this one. Unfortunately, and as others have already pointed out, a big part of this is luck based. Some runs you'll decimate most of the captains easily with your Graug. Other runs, you'll just barely be able to get the required 10 with your monster (the rest will either be unavailable - missions only - or way back in that Northeastern fort where your Graug can't go). Some runs you'll have Graug bait right next to Riot locations, other runs you'll have nothing but your branded Warchief and yourself to take down everyone.

My biggest piece of advice after finally getting this: Let Kugor / Zugor take out the Ghul Warchief. It goes quicker than you'd think. The only exception to this would be if there's Graug bait immediately available. Other than that, stick with it! This one is frustrating but you'll feel so accomplished once you get it.

3rd run for me, definitely incredibly luck based so keep at it. On my winner I was done with 15 captains and Zugor in 20 minutes, cheated death with Zugor, Graug actually grabbed the captain first time everytime, ran into about 10 of the captains on the way to the others and all my captains appeared before I even entered the zones! Finished in around 35 mins 40 secs with 19k points (67th in the world!).

1st run was dire - bugged Zugor (no fire rounds) and just the inability to find any captains was a pain. Way over time on this one although hit points. 2nd run was just short by a few seconds, although I'm doubtful I would have had enough points to win anyways.

Death threats really do help bolster your points but you do have to be careful of the extra minions you could potentially (which i did in my first couple runs) grab. The point Ansonn makes about intel is a good one, on all runs Zugor had 4 bodyguards, although on the winner I was finding so much intel I just used it to look for him - but it most definitely would have cost me a minute or so.

Just keep at it is all I can say - while obviously this guide was incredibly helpful, even if you follow it (and the advice from others) to the letter if luck is against you none of that matters.

I didn't have much luck with this guide myself. I kept falling a couple of minutes short so I decided to try skip the Intel on the captains and go straight for the war chiefs with the most bodyguards. I then proceeded to eat all of the bodyguards with a Graug and then lastly the war chief and even managed to kill a few solo captains on the field while doing this (keep an eye out for them).

I saved Zugor for last because he's incredibly lethal to Graugs and managed to eat his bodyguards before he killed my Graug. I then branded him and reverted to the method from the guide above by rioting against the remaining captains (I had around 8 left). I finished in 36:26 first try with this method and had 14k points. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the guide, I definitely still couldn't have done this without it!

(Edit: it's also worth noting that once you send Zugor to riot and he disappears, you can press down on the D-pad to destroy the followers he left behind for a few extra points!)

Ended with 12657 on my second run... WTF. I'm 300 short! laugh
I had 15 seconds left. Was a few 1000 short so panicked and search for more Catagors, only found a few of them, hoping it was enough... Damn cry

I do admit I didn't kill that many Catagors in the beginning. Will do this on my 3rd and hopefully final run!!

Edit: Third attempt: finally got it! With only 11k after I killed the 4th Warchief, I was really scared if I would get enough points to complete it. So I had 11k points and needed to kill the last branded warchief... I had 9 seconds on the clock so not enough time to go hunting for another Caragor. Killed the warchief + about 8 branded Uruks -> 11k became 14k.

Finally done with this! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wave

Wow...followed this guide (perfect btw!), made it. As in..37 minutes, all objectives done..No achievement!

Did it again, got all the objectives done (38 minutes this time) and still no achievement. Im gutted. If anyone ever finds a way of getting it unglitched, please let me know. This is just so annoying cry

That sucks, DutchDemons. Is it a "Done! Unlocking" issue, or is it just completely locked?

It is still locked. It even says i'm on the elite leaderboards, ranked 165. Can't believe it. Maybe i'll ask monolith on their forum if this is a known issue (unlikely). Atm i am just too annoyed.

Thx for replying though, moral support ftw!

Attempted this about 10-15 times now, closest I've gotten is 41 minutes. This achievement is fucking 99% luck. I am sprinting, fast travelling, killing orcs and warchiefs at warp speed and I cannot get this done in less than 40 minutes.

Whoever designed this achievement can choke on my balls

2nd attempt, completed it at 41.5 minutes, missing a final score using this solution. Thank you! I am going back in!

3rd attempt. 16 minutes in and I have 10 urks eaten, and the location of the the warcheif i need. 2 mintues later, HE is dead because i accidently pressed X instead of B.... and then i get war cheifs that are battlemasters AND invincicle to stealth AND range, and one that was ALSO a combat master. this is totally screwed with shit luck!

Literally had seconds left the the last war chief dominated and riding a graug about not enough points. Killed a couple uruks with projectile vomite and jumped off the graug, hit down on the d-pad killing the last war chief and the graug in the least second to just get me over the score requirement. Took me a good few tries to finally get it. Thanks for the help.

Finally got it on about my 6th try, having gone through a few other solutions before coming back to this one (the first one I tried & failed terribly). Had too much trouble getting the required number of monster kills with the other "riots only" method, so I came back to this one & had some good luck with the random riot locations really close to graug bait. Was worried about the points at the end - needed over 1000 after the final unbranded warchief - but dispatching Zugor, who was beefed up from all the "wins," put me at 14,366 points with 37:43 on the clock.

This method works - the best advice (as mentioned) is just practice riding the graug while scanning in wraith vision, don't get caught up in big fights, and keep speed in mind. Every little bit of fast travel & shadow strike shaves off just enough time to matter! rock

Just a heads up for anyone that might panick and get frustrated, if another captain takes the place of a killed warchief it won't show up on your killed war-chiefs on your objectives list. Rest assured that when everything is dead you will have 5 war-chiefs and 20 captains.

Thank you so much for the tips, I got the achievement on my 2nd try (1st try using that solution), fighting the last captain I had 11k points and less than 2mn left which made me panick a little about doing the whole thing again but once "Zugor" killed it became 14k and got the achievement and now I have all 74. Thanks.

To anyone currently struggling with this achievement, don't give up. I spent the better part of a day and nearly 12 full attempts before succeeding. My only addition to this solution is to use death threat instead of intel. You'll easily get the 13k points.

Another important thing, if you die and a captian respawns you'll want to skip them and continue on until the warchiefs. There's a good chance they'll be promoted to warchief next, sometimes with a bodyguard, and it's faster to command your Uruk to riot than it is to track them down.

This solution is almost perfect, and is definitely the best foundation for earning this incredibly stupid achievement. The things that other people have recommended in the comments that helped me unlock this were to blackmail basic captains instead of just gathering intel on them, and to brand Zugor and start the first riot before doing the circle of the map with a graug.
I followed this guide without looking at the comments for my first few attempts, and every attempt I found myself running out of time on the last two or three captains/warchiefs. However, by branding Zugor first I was able to get rid of two other warchiefs and two or three captains per riot with the help of him and a nearby graug spawn.
The run before my winning run Zugor ended up glitching and not firing any arrows at all, which screwed me out of the achievement because I ran out of time.
On my final attempt, I blackmailed enough captains to figure out which warchief Zugor was (he always has the most bodyguards out of all of the warchiefs) after only five or six minutes, I blackmailed the last few captains I didn't know the location of, and then I went and branded Zugor. I then immediately started the first blackmail (all of Zugor's bodyguards escaped, which was ultimately fine) to make sure Zugor would attack, and he did (I was also able to kill all of the warchief's bodyguards here, so four of the total 20 uruk I needed to kill were dead in the first ten or so minutes). Then I circled the map on a graug, only ended up killing ten of the captains during this process, and just used Zugor to get rid of the rest, going for the warchiefs with bodyguards first and getting really lucky with the locations of the riots being right near some graug bait spawns.
Ultimately I finished with over 19,000 points and over three minutes to spare.
Hopefully this helps some people get this achievement, and huge shoutouts to the author of this solution and several of the gamers in the comments, they're the only reason I was able to finally unlock this monster.

7 seconds from the end... It was a pain in the ass. I skipped time at the towers in the end to have new warchiefs with new bodyguard so riots would be more efficient (and even more near graug baits).
I also got very few intel in the beginning of this last run (the ninth maybe) but it's the only time I got that unlucky.

Question 1: do I need to unlock first the abilities in the main campaign (or anywhere else) or this abilities to achieve this are all unlocked in the Test of the Ring missions?

Question 2: can I replay this wherever I want if aI fail?

By NessNoldo on 28 Nov 2020 17:05
For NessNoldo, you can definitely replay it as many times as you want.

The first point's an interesting one. I believe it uses whatever you have unlocked in the main game so you aren't going to start with all skills unlocked. I am not sure, though, as I only tried this score attack thing after the main game was done.

Now, all that stated, I think it's two-way. Unlocks in THIS mode also affect the main game save. At least runes I got in this mode appear in the main game save, though I'd already done the main game by the point I tried this mode. From that, I suspect XP and stuff also carry over.

Strange. I killed two warchiefs, but didn't get credit for it. Landed the final blow and everything. Did the counter just bug out on me or am I overlooking something silly?

I just started the game and am trying to finish it before servers are shutting down.

Will this work:
1. I realized that when you start a challenge and quit out, the progress is saved. Therefore, could you start a run and if you like the outcome (let's say you discovered the correct warchief and enough captains in a short amount of time) you exit the challenge and let the save sync to the cloud - since saves are generally synced when you close the game, not while you're playing.
2. You now have a back-up save. You continue the challenge. If something happens that you don't like, you go offline and quit out of the game. You delete your local save. Go back online, enter the game and let the cloud save sync. You can retry the challenge from your previous save.

UPDATE: I have tested my hypothesis. You can definitely create backup saves on the cloud! If you don't like how the last 10min or so in your current run turned out, just delete your local save and resync again.

Now the achievement just has to pop at the end of it. I hope this doesn't prevent it from unlocking. I will try this weekend when my character is leveled up more.

UPDATE 2: It has been a few years since this post and when I read my description of how to save scum I realized that it is outdated and inefficient. smile
To revert to a previous save on the cloud you don't need to go offline. You simply go to "Manage game and add-ons" while still in the game. Go to "saves" and delete your local save only. This will close the game and when you start it back up it will sync your cloud save.

It definitely not impossible, hard but not impossible i’m about to try this later. I did it around 5 years ago on normal version using this method, apart from the intel I can’t remember spending first 9 mins doing that. I just got on a Graug and headed for the 4 main camps one at a time. From memory the war chief with a crossbow is a beast of a killer 😂😂

yes but it's randomly, sometimes you can kill each captains with your graug except 3 where we need to do a mission , and sometimes you can kill some captains.

it's the same with the location of missions when we do a riot.

and yes this warchief is a badass laugh

i don't think i will take the risk with your way, we need to complet almost the story to unlock the skill to do a riot and we have only 28 days to unlock it before the closure of servers so...

I already tried it yesterday. Deleting the save locally does not delete the file on the cloud. After syncing, all your progress is back... But suit yourself.

Also, 28 days is plenty of time to complete this short game.

Just finished my first run. Had 1 minute to go with everything done except my branded warchief left. I dont have dispatch unlocked so had to kill him normally. Dominated him hoping there was an option to kill him. There wasn't. Let go of him to fight him but he disappeared when I let go of him. Had to start a mission to summon him again so ran out of time. Feel sick to my stomach right now...

Welp just did it in 34 mins, 15k points and no achievement. Wonderful game. headspin

Edit: Just completed it a second time in 37 mins, 15k points. No pop. Unreal. First time it showed my score on the elite leaderboards but after this second run it says the servers are offline. Think I might be done trying for this.

@Sazaq213 Yeah idk. I reinstalled the og version to try this achievement out since I needed it from that list too and and I got it to pop. Best time yet too at 31 mins. I'm thinking maybe I need to not quit to the main menu if I accidentally pick up one of my main guys with the Graug to save him because maybe it messes with my run? Didn't do that on this version and it popped on the first successful attempt. Doubtful and it's probably just glitched for me on the GOTY version but at least I can 100% the og list.

Edit: It popped while playing Gears 5 today lmao. Figured I was completely boned from getting it.

Just can not go fast enough. Best was 4 captains left at time limit

I keep getting too many captains who have missions or don’t show up

@Phil
Never do any missions, besides the first one to get Ugakuga as early as possible. Then riot against other chiefs, preferably the ones with the most bodyguards so you can eat them with a Graug.
When you run out of war chiefs, advance time. This will promote some captains to chiefs and promote others to be their bodyguards. This way, when you start a riot, multiple captains will show up with the chief and you don't have to find them all individually.
This way I finished in 34min

By Dr Marty on 05 Dec 2020 16:16
Ok, I never did any missions.

I killed 10 captains on my graug. Branded the chieftain. Rioted and killed the other chieftains and than had 10 minutes for 10 captains that were missions. So I did riots against them but it wasn’t enough time.

Sounds like what I should have done was advanced time so they got promoted and then rioted against them as chieftains.

I will try that next.

By Phil the Bear on 05 Dec 2020 20:14
One of the chiefs will be under your control (Ugakuga). Of the other 4, riot against the ones with the most bodyguards. Once you killed two of them, advance the time the remaining two may get more bodyguards, and new captains may be promoted who also may have bodyguards. Basically never do a riot against a chief that doesn't have at least 1 bodyguard.

In my run I only had to do 8 riots I believe.

@Dr Marty. Thanks very much for the advice. Did it on my next go and I even died once!

Got 4-5 brands and intel to reveal kugor

Jumped on graug and just went to the 3 main bases and used wraith vision to randomly find captains. Got 7.

Did kugor mission and died because he had 4 bodyguards and I was trying to get on a graug.

Repeated it eating them all to finish the graug stuff.

Used Kugor to riot twice. Moved time. Riot again. Move time. Riot again. Moved time. Riot. Riot.

4 mins left so I killed some caragors and enemies to get to 11,500 and then summoned Kugor and pressed down.

So happy to see instant pop.

Just did it the regular version earlier today I tried to redo the same achievement on the Game of Year version however in trials of War I cannot teleport to any towers, all of them are grey out and cannot be forged. Does anybody knows how do I get them unlocked? All of them were automatically forged when I started the campaign on the DLC. Is this map available on the main game, I wonder if I need to forge all the towers first, I haven’t reach the second map on the main game in the version.

Edit: got my answer whatever progress you get in the main game goes toward the trial DLC, which include upgrades and forge towers. Both DLC campaigns unlock everything but the trial is linked to your main game progress.

Got this today at the pace of 33:19 and a score of 14653! A few things that helped me along the way:

1.)I didn't get intel for everyone and chose to just riot against war chiefs+bodygaurds after a blind sweep of the map. If you go for the graug drop then the captains will very likely not trigger dialogue with you, saving you ~5 seconds per captain/war chief that you kill here. Note: I had to advance time so that the graug bait reset and this did turn alot of captains to war chiefs so you have to be careful and ensure you don't end up short on beast captain kills.
2.)When farming caragors or graugs: Execute them with RT+B instead of jumping off and pressing down on the dpad. Caragors get a 50+ bonus for each execution and graugs get a 100 bonus.
3.)I want to emphasize that all you need is ~12000pts to complete this, the bonus for completing in under 40 mins counts towards your final score :)

Good luck to those grinding this out and thanks to the OP for the great guidetoast

Whew, five days of grinding out abilities and runes in the main story and three hours of attempting the trial, over and over again laugh What a relief.

I managed to get a final time of 28:27 and a final score of 17406 using Warboy925's link, Dr Marty's cloud save exploit, and C Frizzady Diz's tip about using Death Threat instead of Intel to boost points. Combining those commenters' advice with OP's solution into a general framework made it pretty manageable.

Be prepared for a delayed pop though! Best of luck.

I just want to say this game is actually garbage and is purely random if you succeed or not. The games counter kept going while I was in the menu. Zugor literally shoots through walls. This game was seriously buggy and the achievement design is offensive at best. This mode had no business being made, it's awful from start to finish.

I changed it up a bit on my second attempt which was successful. I ignored getting any intel/death threats and immediately ran for the graug and ran to the north east base, north west base, and then the middle base. I found 8 out of the 10 captains just in wraith mode running around and ate them. I found a few random green intel and fortunately I got lucky and the second one I found was the important warlord. I did a few riots and was low on points, around 6k at this point 20 minutes in with 2 warlords left including mine, and about 8 captains. Instead of after starting a riot and sacrificing the warlords grunts only then did I do death threats on the remaining unknown captains and a few were close so I fast traveled to a tower, grabbed a graug and ate three more to get that objective done. Then I did riots the rest of the way, especially for the two captains who of course I couldn't reach via graug in the north east. I did two captain missions who were extremely close to a fast travel or very near a riot start and those took too much time. I had about 5 minutes left and 4 riots to do but fortunately the last two were not range immune so I was able to get to 12k points with about 90 seconds to spare, finished the last riot and sacrificed everyone to hit 14k. I don't know if I was not lucky on captain location on I am just slow, but I was so far off the pace the first attempt trying to grab random grunts and get intel on all 20 captains my first attempt I said forget it.
I haven't played any Shadow games for about 6 months so I was very rusty. I also watched a few youtube videos to help visualize it which helped.

This achievement definitely requires a lot of skill and a little luck on the captain locations to make it under the time limit. Definitely avoid any fighting and definitely do not do any back tracking. If youve run there once on a graug and got who you could, dont run back. I wasted too much time going out of my way to visit the north west area just to get a single captain. I would have been much better just to riot him because your warlord makes quick work of anyone. Glad to be done with this one and hopefully the next one very shortly. Good luck everyone!

I already did it, it just isn't updated here. It only took me one *actual* attempt as my first 2 were broken by bugs. It is a very easy thing to do if you know how to abuse the games busted mechanics. It's just annoying that you need to bust things yourself in order to complete an achievement clearly nobody tested.

Easy way to do this is just to take the general ideas from most here. Skip Intel for captains, simply do a circle with a graug. Get real Intel on the war chiefs, take ugakuga branded. Riot against anyone who's a pain to find, use left over uruk after you command ugakuga away for Intel (use death threats. Reveals the same thing+ more points, probably). Rioting will save you tons of time. Ended up doing it with 10 minutes to spare.

Seriously thought. Intel on all enemies is a huge waste of time. That's 10 minutes down the drain for Intel you don't need on 90% of them. Get the war chief to riot, circle the map to clear it out using wraith vision. That'll get you down to 3 or 4 captains left without needing Intel.

I used the “masterchiefcode” solution, the last one. But all these solutions (and comments) contain key elements of what makes a perfect run. Make sure YOU kill or dominate even the warchiefs not your branded warchief. ALSO, when you want to kill your branded warchief(s) when your done with them, depending on their level, summon them through beck and call or if you have them on the field in front of you make sure you kill them with an arrow to the head. Massive point difference. So much RNG in this cheevo it’s disgusting PLUS game is glitchy and clunky. Glad that’s over. Not touching the second game.

Holy hell is this a pain in the ass to finish. I think I took like 8 hours or so of trying before finally getting it.

For my finishing it, I did the following:

Got intel for all the captains (at times shadow mounting caragors for extra points)
Got the intel on the warchief w/4 bodyguards (always seems to be Zugor)
Got the graug
Took out 11 captains w/graug
Branded Zugor
Had Zugor riot on all remaining captains (would snipe captain followers for extra points)
Sent Zugor to next captain and then did the brand-kill on his remaining followers
When all captains dead did the same for the warchiefs

Finished w/about 40 seconds left on the clock and ~14150 points. I tried doing it without getting the captain intel, but it took too long finding the captains with wraith vision alone, since the stupid bastards didn't show up till I practically on top of them. Luck factored in WAY too much for my comfort. One also needs to be really on the ball with using Shadow Strike too.

I had considered doing the DLC on the non-GOTY version, but no frickin' way am I doing this again.

If you just riot the warchiefs first then past the time, the captains will become warchiefs with bodyguards.... just kill bodyguards first with graug then the enemy riot warchief, no need for intel gathering this method except for your first warchief. They will naturally show up on sauron's army page, and with a Graug, do you really need to know weaknesses?

I got this minutes ago, but this is my original message before achieve this hatefulness:

Well... This game is pure S H I T. I can't believe no strategy works for me. Something that is not supposed to happen just happens and the game glitch itself, like the bastard Zugor don't shooting anything at the enemy or Ugakuga not moving at all. This garbage achievement is the dumbest thing I have ever tried to make. Game is bugged as f**ck and you need heavenly luck for everything to develope in a specific order to work.
If some stinky-ass uruk is not where is supposed to be, you're screwed. I hope developers die or something for this. Was this supposed to be fun or challenging? This is just a stupid cheap RNG garbage, and some users went spending literally days trying to get this crap... Damn.
Since I never have won lottery in my whole life, I don't fuckin care anymore if this piece of dump is unobtainable in the future.

I had a positive feeling about this game, but now I just hate this and seems to me like a mockery from the developers to the players who attempt to unlock this idiotic achievement. The biggest waste of time ever.
Yeah, I'm writing this desiring to squirm my own ballsack trying to vent this rage.

EDIT: I finally got this piece of bullshit. I'm seriously considering not playing the sequel. Literally, I spend two damn days on this stupid thing almost without stop. I don't feel happy to achieve this crap, I just feel better. Was top rage inducing and is not worth at all.

The strategy I did follow was gain intel for captains until I get the 10/11 captains needed for the graug, then look out with groug to eat them. Once I eat the 10, I tried to brand Ugakuga, but I ended killing him, so I went to brand Zugor to riot the other warchiefs (always pressed Down to kill other followers after grab Zugor to riot again and get some points) I went like this until I realized that I was low at points, so I riot some captains to level that to 11k at best. Once I had every warchief killed, I pressed Down to dispatch every branded uruk, killing Zugor and the achievement popped immediately.

I wonder if this two achievements will be impossible to unlock after servers closure, because did pop instantly for me before the success chart appeared on screen (before registering the score on Leaderboards).

That's it. Finally. F**CK the developers.

@DigitalAtlas I just did this on the non-GOTY version and it looked like I was having similar issues - I had killed multiple chiefs but tally only said 1 killed - until I realized that I was often using advance time instead of fast travel, which brought new chiefs and reduced then tally again

Tried several ways of going about this, never got closer than 49 minutes and change, and a few thousand points short.
What finally worked for me was the following.
1. Ignore intel on captains. I found a green guy (worm) and got intel on war chief. Happened to be Zugor / Kugor - the fire bow fella.
2. I hopped on a graug and took one lap around the map in wraith vision, killing any captains I came across. Got 4 or 5.
3. Started the mission to kill the warchief. He killed me 3 times, but in the process I took out all his guards / captains. Finally got him dominated, was around 21 minute mark. I honestly thought I was toast and almost restarted. Played it out just to see how close I could get.
4. Started the riots. When there was a graug bait handy, hit it, and shadow mount it, eat any captains that came along, then eat the war chief. Right trigger + B, kill the graug, grab Zugor, start the next riot.

Finished with 15k+ and in 37:30

Riots are SO MUCH faster for me than hunting down individual captains.
Bear in mind, you need to spend, on average, 96 seconds or less per captain / war chief.
I guess it just depends on how you play, but even if a few slip away during the riot, your odds of getting multiple kills in smaller time go up. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Getting Zugor/Kugor domintated at first was a little challenging for me, but really having enough elf shot and shooting him down with headshots and fire arrows is key. It goes pretty quick, and then you can run up an dominate him while ignoring any of his bodyguards. You can even grab one to kill as they're fleeing after you dominate the warchief.

Just got this! I used this guide (and comments) as a starting point and changed a few things. I went straight for the graug and made a lap first. It doesn't matter if you have intel or not since the captains will either be there or they won't. Then I killed the graug and grabbed an intel to search for Zugor. Took a couple to find him. I also took the opportunity to issue death threats to the front row (or what was left of them) using the enemies around the worms I needed. Then I went for Zugor and set up his first riot and started it immediately. This allowed me to kill not only one war chief but three other captains as well. I kept this tactic up and by the time the last war chief fell there were only 3 regular captains left. Even though I had died against Zugor the first time I still managed to finish in 37 minutes with just over 1400 points. Killing random caragors I came across and killing all your followers after each fight really helps pad the points without any extra time spent. The achievement popped instantly.

Achievement still available in this GOTY edition. Got it today on 1st serious try using Dr Marty's save scum technique. Had a bad start but save scumming corrects bugs/glitches (graug bait delays) and my bad play (gamer never blames his controller (much lol)). To be fair I got it with tight limits (13.3K score; 39½ mins) and could really do a lot better if I optimised things (I should have restarted with the bad start). Only got one intel at start for first warchief and rioted for rest of the Test. Moved time with Y ONCE to repopulate the captains/warchiefs. So glad it popped after getting 3 failed achievements with the game

To revert to a previous save on the cloud you don't need to go offline. You simply go to "Manage game and add-ons" while still in the game. Go to "saves" and delete your local save only. This will close the game and when you start it back up it will sync your cloud save.

Got it first try, followed the guide and only changed last second as i was running out of time in the riot phase, but there were two instances of captains fighting, one a duel and the other an execution so that was an easy four kills back to back. Follow the guide but everything is dependant on situation. +1

Great guide, took a bit of save scumming but the first 30 mins of my run had set me up perfectly - if you need caragors for last minute points go to the tower at the southwest, can usually get 3/4 there in about 30 seconds

I tried this multiple times with different guides without success, the closest I got was 42:12 with 10 captains killed by beasts, and 12,427 score. However, I was able to get this done in 31:11, 13 captains killed by beasts, and 15007 score, by doing this method (going to put timesaver, and score tips at the bottom).

1) Get intel on at least 15 different captains, I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not, but I noticed a lot more captains spawned on my play-through when I did this as opposed to when I would try to get a Graug and ride everywhere trying to find captains from the very beginning.

2) Get intel on at least one War chief, every play-through I did, I commanded a few different war chiefs and found that it didn’t make much of a difference. However, I wouldn’t recommend going for the war chief that has a weaknesses to stealth finishers as I found his weakness to be inconsistent at times. (Also important to note that the best way to get intel on war chiefs is to look for worms or green intel on the map).

3) Ride a Graug and go around killing as many captains as you can, I started at the bottom left of the map, there is Graug bait hanging in the area north of the forge tower, you can also get there quickly by shadow mounting nearby Caragaths. Once I had the Graug I went counter clockwise starting from the bottom left. I was able to kill 11 captains this way. (For extra score you can also kill your graug when finished).

4) Draw out the warchief that you gained intel on then command him to start a riot with another warchief. This will give you a map marker that will appear blue, the next warchief and his bodyguards will be there when you initiate the event.

5) Get to this event as quickly as you can killing the enemy war chief and his bodyguards. Make sure to re-command the branded warchief to start another riot with a warchief. Then just repeat this until all the other warchiefs are defeated. For score, make sure to kill all branded uruks by dispatch (down on the dpad) after every encounter (making sure that you’ve already commanded the war-chief to start another riot so that he doesn’t get killed by this). Once all the war chiefs are dead besides the branded one, simply dispatch him with the rest of the uruks on the last encounter.

6) Go around and kill the rest of the remaining captains, once you kill the last captain though, the trial will end. By this point you should be high on score but may come short so I’m going to put some tips on how to get more points easily in short time below. To ensure I had enough points, I made sure to have at least 13,000 before going for the last captain.

Score: the best way to get score is to kill every Uruk after interrogation, this will cost an extra second but give double the normal score. Even though I put this in my guide, make sure to dispatch all uruks besides the war chief after riots. Next, kill beasts as much as you can, at the bottom left forge tower, there are normally quite a few caragors every fast travel, if you’re down there for any reason throughout the trial I would highly recommend going out of your way to shadow mount kill them. Same goes for anywhere in the trial, if you see a caragath in the open I would highly recommend killing it as they give 150 score per kill.

Timesaves: After fast traveling to a forge tower, draw your bow and look for something to shadow kill or mount. This will save quite a bit of time as opposed to leaving it normally, Don’t walk around normally, always have your bow drawn and looking to shadow mount or kill something to get to your destination faster. Running to places normally will take a lot longer and it’s best to not do that if you can avoid it.

Overall Tips: Don't get stressed and don’t quit early if it looks like you’re doing bad. Believe it or not, this 31:11 minute run went on for 10 minutes before I had even killed a single captain. Have a general idea of bait locations around the map. Don’t quit if you die, I’ve seen plenty of people finish this trial after dying with a few minutes left to spare, it’s not as big of a deal as it seems like. Same goes for if the branded war chief dies, just make sure to replace him as quickly as you can. Finally, if nobody’s guides are helping you, try doing your own thing. I tried this trial once on my own and did really bad. Thought I couldn’t do it alone and looked at others run throughs to help me, but no run through can be 1:1 because of rng. I ended up doing this on my own again and did much better, and this last time I got was the result of me doing it on my own a third time.

Is it always Kugor Beast Hunter? In my game I've got Zugor Beast Butcher, which seems similar enough to maybe be the warchief mentioned here, but thought I'd check! Maybe a description of his strengths/weaknesses would help?

Still working on this....its easier than it looks TBH, I ran out of time with only 7k points and 17/20 captains bc I'll be damned if 5 of them ALONE was in that damn NE fort!!!

Just ran through the comments and looks like a lot of helpful tips......not gonna give up though, this mode is kinda fun.....

So I had an issue: I killed 4 warchiefs and only 1 of them counted for the tally. If you see this glitch, just restart. It's not worth it at that point. 40 minutes is totally do able though. I accidentally killed Zugor and just went to killing Warchiefs with body guards and I was making super good time.

Some tips here:
I found that after revealing most of the captains, Kugor is usually the one with most bodyguards. And I think it would be much easiter to brand Kugor if all his bodyguards are taken out beforehand.

Advance time for a few times so that all captains are assigned to a warchief as bodyguards. So you don't have to start more than four or probably five riots.

I got this the first time trying on GOTY. I has some very lucky spawns and got Ugakuga as my first warchief.

Only rioting against warchiefs and then advancing time to let the warchiefs/bodyguards reset was the key for me - dropped my previous best time by almost 10 minutes, lol

This is a summary of Phoenix C64's solution for the standard version found here:
Solution for The Hunt is my Mistress In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

I have added additional details that I feel streamlined his excellent solution.

Step 1: Without leaving the spawn tower, go into Wraith Vision (cn_LB) and look for a yellow Uruk (which has intel) or a Captain (red) walking out in the open. Also check the mini-map for the intel icon. If there is not one nearby, pause and press cn_X to fast travel to the same tower until you find one. Use Shadow Strike (cn_LT + cn_A) to get to intel/Captain then kill any stragglers and dominate the intel source. Use the intel on one of the Warchiefs with the goal of finding Ûgakûga Graug rider. I found that both game versions tended to have Ûgakûga in the same spot on the Sauron's Army screen, so if you have to restart a few times, you'll see where he usually is in your game.

Step 2: Go to Ûgakûga's mission and draw him out. The key here is to run to a more open space or an area on a different elevation to minimize other Uruks and make sure you can always see the cn_Y prompt to counter. Try to keep him between you and the other Uruks and whittle his health down carefully until he kneels as he won't turn green. I started with executions, then after his health got low I would Wraith Stun, then just hit him a few times and wait, then repeat until he kneeled. Select Dominate (cn_A) then Command (cn_Y) and send him to riot on your first Warchief.

Step 3: Follow Phoenix C64's guide for Riots. Basically fast travel to location, start Riot, find Graug Bait, Shadow Strike Mount the Graug, eat bodyguards first, and then the Warchief. My tip here is that you can kind of use the Graug to herd the bodyguards and Warchief away from Ûgakûga before trying to eat them, to keep from accidentally eating Ûgakûga. After you eat them, Kill your Graug (cn_RT + cn_B), then dominate and send Ûgakûga to the next riot, then press cn_down to dispatch the minions for the points. Fast Travel to the next location and repeat.

Step 4: Once you send Ûgakûga to the third original Warchief, advance time with cn_Y instead of normal fast travel, this promotes bodyguards and gives you more Warchiefs for the points. Repeat again, advancing time while going to the final original Warchief. My tip here is to only advance time on the Third and Fourth original Warchief. This should give you plenty of bodyguards at your raids, and two extra Warchiefs for points.

Step 5: Go back to fast traveling to the promoted Warchiefs, don't advance time anymore.

Step 6: After you have Ûgakûga as the only remaining Warchief, start sending Ûgakûga to Raid the last Captains. You should have enough beast kills by now so I recommend ignoring the Graug Bait and shooting all of the Berserkers and Shield Uruks with your bow and then other Uruks until you run out of focus, then jump down and take out the Captain with executions.

Final Step: When you kill the last Captain, if you have at least 11,000 points press cn_down to dispatch Ûgakûga and his minions.

If needed, here is a map of Graug bait locations suggested by BLYAST in the comments:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/61509554576442502...

Note: When you come up against Zûgor Beast Butcher, ignore his bodyguards and immediately kill him with arrows and fire arrows when they are available. Then jump down and send Ûgakûga to riot his successor and do not advance time.

Don't forget step 3. Use the Graug to move the bad guys away from Ûgakûga. I put that in there because I absolutely ate Ûgakûga once or twice on accident.

There is an element of luck to this. I did the following strat.

Start up and pick finding intel first. Once you've located Ugakuga, hop on a Graug and start working your way clockwise around the map - ignore Ugakuga's location right now - killing as man captains as you can find. I managed to find 10 in the go I achieved this on, but aim for close to 10 if not possible.

Now go to Ugakuga's event. Kill his Captains and brand him. Command him to riot with the warchiefs first, if you get Kugor first, recommend killing Kugor with arrows and letting one of his captains promote - this will then count Kugor as a captain kill. Kill all captains before taking on the warchiefs.

Systematically riot with the remaining captains and remember to kill the loitering branded uruks after sending Ugakuga off to his next mission.

Don't be shy in baiting Graugs in riots, but do be careful not to accidentally eat Ugakuga. If the too uruks are close, run through them to isolate the enemy captain.

This saves time on finding all intel, saves time by taking on captains blind at the beginning, and the remaining time can be used on controlled riots. If you die, or Ugakuga dies, time will be incredibly tight to manage this, so probably best to restart the challenge.

Ugukuga is weak against Combat Finishers. Careful not to kill him though, as he is one of the best Warchiefs to brand.

Shagflak is only weak to beast attacks. So recommend calling a Graug in.

Ashgarn is pretty weak to a frontal assault, so get to the ground with him and wraith punch and flurry.

Tumhorn is vulnerable to stealth, so drop on him or somehow exploit the commotion and sneak up behind him.

Kugor is weak to ranged, I used arrows to get headshots repeatedly, use both Fire Arrows, then when the Elf Shot slowdown runs out, he should be on one knee, ranged finish him to save his dying monologue.

Good luck.

By far the best method! Tried the top solution and after 6 attempts did this one and got it second time. Final time was 31:00 and Score was 14,798 with 13 Captains eaten! One tip when I was grabbing Ugakuga he had three body guards so I grabbed a Graug and ate them first, there is a risk you eat him accidentally but given it's right at the start of the run it's not a huge deal to reset if necessary

Best solution here that worked for me. One thing I did in addition to the solution is that I built up my sword of Urfael before I took on Ugakuga. Made that fight a lot quicker and actually saved me time.

Had to improvise a little since I had to replace my Warchief twice because of my nasty habit of accidentally eating them lol. Still got it, but it was close.

This achievement proved to be the biggest SOB in the game for me. Hardest challenge was time. I failed 8 times I tried to go all the way. 3 of those were within 1 minute. The 2 guides listed did not provide me a good enough strategy to complete within 40 minutes.

What follows are the tips and winning strategy I used to get it.

prepare yourself for tl;dr

requirements:

complete Test of the Wild with:
- all 5 war chiefs and all 20 captains dead
- kill 10 captains with beasts (war chiefs do not count)
- earn 13,000 points
- complete above within 40 minutes.

tips:
- do not freak out, get frustrated, and quit if you die.

- the skills you have in the challenge mode are the same ones you unlocked in the normal campaign. obviously have as many as you can.

- know where the graug bait is (map can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/jabs6lo ) this is not my map! credit goes to some guy on steam.

- quick traveling to a tower respawns graug bait.

- graugs will always approach from the same spot when their bait is shot. But the bait is buggy and sometimes the graug won't show. (typically when you need it the most)

- if you fight captains on foot, you want to kill them in as little time as possible. runes you will want to use are ones that increase execution damage (especially vs captains) and base sword damage (unfortunately these are epic runes). Ideally, you want to stun a captain with cn_B or vault stun them with cn_A and flurry combo them. If you can, you want to complete the flurry and follow up with cn_RT and cn_X then cn_B + cn_Y x2. If surrounded by too many enemies, just cn_B + cn_Y x2 on the captain/chief as soon as you can. Try your best to combo back up for 2 more cn_B + cn_Ys on the captain/chief to finish them off.

- other important runes to use are those that will keep your focus filled up.

- Get in the habit of quick traveling to towers to get you closer to your destination. NEVER jump off the top. Push cn_LB to scan for targets and cn_LT + cn_A or cn_X (a is stun, x is kill) to teleport closer to where you want to go. Ideally you want to look for a caragath to mount. they move faster than you do on foot.

- get in the habit of using wraith vision to scan for captains as you ride a graug. Look for the white cn_LS symbol. Pushing it will tell you who the captain is, and show you where they are.

- early on, if you are not on a graug find a captain and need beast kills. defeat, brand, and use the captain for intel on a war chief. sooner or later they will turn up while you are on a graug for an easy beast kill.

- the timer is frozen when in the map or sauron's army screen. it keeps counting during war chief and captain spoken dialogues.

- ALWAYS use normal uruks to reveal captains with death threats. You will get more points this way. ALWAYS use intel to reveal war chiefs.

- You MUST land the killing blow on captains or war chiefs if you want points. You will get 0 if a branded minion gets the kill.

- if a captain dies by wild or branded beast, it does count towards the challenge (but not sure if you get points this way tho)

- the graug is the fastest way to defeat captains/war chiefs. its cn_Y attack is a guaranteed instant kill. graug vomit usually does little to no damage, but will knock down and stun captains,

- if on a graug facing a captain surrounded by uruks, projectile vomit on them. the normal uruks will die quickly and you should be able to tell if the captain is vulnerable. If the captain takes modest damage from the puke, keep puking until he dies. If he takes zero or almost no damage, you must eat him. problem with this scenario is the barf will knock the captain down, and you will have a very low chance of success grabbing a downed captain. Its actually a better idea to wait until they get back up before trying to grab.

- if captain flees and you are on graug: hold cn_A try to run over him. he will die instantly (only works with the vomit graug, captain icon must be green on minimap)

- if you are on carragor and a captain is fleeing (must be green on the minimap). chase after him and hold cn_RT pushing cn_X while close. this should be an instant kill. the normal cn_Y bite grab will not insta kill captains like it does normal uruks.

SPECIAL WAR CHIEFS TO BE AWARE OF:

Zugor Beast Butcher (or Kugor Beast Killer): he can instantly murder you, but he is also very easy to defeat. I always branded him. Shoot him 5 times trying to get head shots, then shoot him with 2 fire arrows. Hit him with 2 or 3 more arrows until his life is almost gone letting the fire take away the rest. He will kneel and submit when you are close. If he doesn't, he should if you melee him once. Its super important to not kill him.

I DO NOT recommend using Zugor for riots. Zugor is so OP, he will deny you points by quickly killing the enemy chief himself. The other issue is if the enemy chief is weak against fire, Zugor's attacks will cause them to flee wasting a lot of time if they successfully escape.

Shagflak Ghul Keeper: Worst pain in the ass. He is immune to all your attacks and takes reduced damage from other sources. This guy is the reason I needed Zugor. He will distract Shagflak long enough for you to find a graug to eat him. And, yes, you must use a graug. Zugor can easily kill Shagflak, but will waste way too much time doing it.

ACHIEVEMENT STRATEGY:

start: right off the bat, I hit cn_LB and started scanning for uruks to stun teleport to (target them with cn_LT push cn_A). If I went to a cluster of 3, I shot 2nd uruk in the foot (to stun) and grabbed the 3rd and issued a death threat. Once done, I shot 1 uruk in the leg, and grabbed the 2nd to use for another death threat. then grabbed the last uruk for the 3rd death threat.

I did not reveal all 20 captains before hunting them. Instead I revealed the entire top row and a few in the second (between 10-12)

If I happened to see intel nearby (within reason, its not worth it if you see a gaggle of uruks fighting a carragor), I grabbed it and revealed a war chief.

rarely, upon starting, a captain will spawn within sight of the tower. If I saw him, I teleported to and dominated him. As stated above, I used him to identify a war chief, and released him. I've found branded captains turn up frequently and are very useful to get beast kills.

phase 1: after death threatening the 10+ captains, I raided 2 of the 3 forts by graug. The forts are located in the upper left, upper right, and center bottom of the map. Each fort has a graug bait hanging nearby, usually has a few captains milling about inside, and occasionally a captain can be found with wraith vision not far outside the entrance. I liked going to the upper right fort first. Good news it usually has 4 captains in it. Bad news is, the top half can not be accessed by graug and 2 captains almost always spawn there.

after 2 forts, if I did not have at least 5 kills by beast, I restarted.

Time: between 8-12 minutes (depending on luck)

phase 2: Now I turned my attention towards the war chiefs. If I didn't have intel on any by now, I quick traveled between towers until I found some (you can see them on your map).

I started by going after a war chief who wasn't Zugor or Shagflak. I did their mission, defeated, dominated, then ordered them to riot against another war chief. This went one of two directions here: if I had Zugor revealed, I rioted him. If not, I chose someone who wasn't Shagflak.

VS Zugor: Started shooting the graug bait. Immediately defeated Zugor (read strategy far above), dominated and commanded him to fight Shagflak (or used for intel to find Shagflak). The graug was now (hopefully) there, and I jumped on him and tried to eat the remaining captains. I liked dealing with Zugor this way since the captains tend to linger a bit longer after his defeat, and they're easier to catch by graug in a wide open area (don't forget you can slow them down with barf).

Once they were all taken care of, I grabbed my war chief and had him riot against another war chief (not Shagflak).

VS other war chief: if captain bodyguards present, I shot the graug bait and ate them. Afterwards, I defeated and dominated the war chief using him for intel then selected to kill him vs let him go. Important; if my branded war chief died, I dominated the enemy war chief and commanded him to riot against another war chief (not Shagflak)

the goal at the end of this phase was to have 1 branded war chief, 1 empty war chief slot, and have Zugor branded and commanded to riot against Shagflak.

time: I was consistently getting under 20 minutes (@ 18 min average).

phase 3: I finished kills by beast here. If I was unlucky, I was within 2 of the kills by beast requirement. Staring with if I had any remaining unknown captains, I revealed them via death threat. I checked Sauron's army for their locations, quick traveled to the nearest tower, and rode a graug in to eat them.

this might not seem like a great idea because of time, but from here on out, the # of captains roaming the map are going to become scarce.

when, and only when, I had the kills by beast completed, I went to the map screen and advanced time. the empty war chief slot gets filled with a random captain and will have several bodyguard captains. I suppose you could advance time again to ensure more captains are assigned to war chiefs (max of 5), but the starting war chiefs rarely get extra captains assigned to them.

the goal with this phase was to have Zugor branded with a riot mission vs Shagflak. My other branded war chief with a riot mission vs another war chief. The empty war chief slot filled with a generic captain with multiple body guards.

time: Close to 30 minutes. This was the make or break point for me. Missions eat up tons of time and I didn't realize gaming the war chief + bodyguard system dramatically saves time.

phase 4: the final stretch! you will kill the remaining captains and war chiefs through riots. This is the best, most efficient method is to finish off the remaining enemies.

do your branded war chief's (not Zugor) riot. Kill the captains first, then the war chief (if your war chief dies, dominate the enemy war chief) and command your branded war chief to riot against another war chief.

the best method of dispatching the a war chief + captains is with a graug. I did say above it is not a wise idea to resort to exploiting riots for beast kills, but graugs truly are the quickest and easiest means to kill the cluster of VIP enemies. You will want to save the war chief for last or second to last; his captains will flee in different directions once he dies and lots of time will be wasted tracking them down or setting up a riot.

at this point:

if any remaining captains were not assigned as a body guard, I advanced time again to get a new war chief who would bring the remaining captains with him to battle.

if they are all assigned, I did the riot vs the remaining war chief. Killed the captains, then the war chief. Here I would have been left with my branded war chief, Zugor, and Shagflak, so as soon as the riot ended, I held cn_down and killed him.

The last thing to do was to start the Zugor and Shagflak riot. Again, Shagflak is a real piece of shit and won't die quickly. Zugor kept him busy while I summoned a graug and used it to eat Shagflak. Afterwards, I held cn_down until Zugor died.

that should be it. My successful run was 38 minutes and I didn't have the best of luck in that run dying once and having to roam around with a graug and find 2 extra captains to eat.

luck plays more of a role than know how and skill for this achievement. So, I mean it quite literally, good luck!

Like most people, I was struggling with this one for quite some time. I ended up reading a bunch of different strategies, took different approaches and eventually came up with a plan that took a little bit of everything and unlocked that sweet, sweet achievement.

1. Immediately bring up your map and look for Intel. Nothing there? Go ahead and fast travel to the same tower and repeat. If still none by three fast travels, then restart entirely. Look for the Intel and go quick by shooting down Uruks with arrows until only the Intel one remains and cn_LT + cn_A to fly in and knock him down. Identify the Warchiefs right away and repeat until you find Tumhorn. I found once I took the first Intel there were others immediately nearby.

2. Start Tumhorn's mission which is usually in the Northeast and requires opening Caragor cages. This is easily done in cn_LB mode from vantage points but don't raise the alarm. After getting 4, get up high as Tumhorn approaches so you can instantly Stealth Brand with cn_RT + cn_B which scatters all other Uruks. Immediately send him to riot any Warchief.

3. Fast travel to nearest tower and make note of the nearest Graug Bait which you can find here: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/61509554576442... (thanks to \†/Teronjon\†/ from Steam who provided it). If there isn't one nearby, go to next paragraph. Start the riot and immediately summon the Graug then brand it as soon as it spawns with cn_LT + cn_A. You want to charge in and eat any Captains with the Graug using cn_Y when they are near his left hand. If they are knocked down, wait until they stand before trying to eat. Then eat the Warchief. Afterwards, jump down and grab your branded Warchief to send him off on another riot right away. Once he's gone, kill all other branded creatures by using cn_down.

If no Graug is nearby, go about fighting the Warchief right away in your preferred style. Remember, you can get unlimited executions by clicking in the sticks if Storm of Urfael is charged. Ideally, you want him to drop to his knees so you can brand him as well but it's ok if he ends up dying. Just grab your branded Warchief(s) and send him on another riot right away. Once he's gone, kill all other branded creatures by using cn_down.

*Note as Trombonafide pointed out in the comments if you have a body guard of a Warchief present and promoted immediately after killing the Warchief it may not register as a Warchief kill. I personally did not encounter this but others may due to timing.

4. Keep repeating this process until the only Warchiefs left are your one or two. At this point, advance time at any tower and new Warchiefs will step in for you to riot. To get the pattern started again, you need to do a quick Beck and Call mission to summon your branded Warchief. You'll very quickly race through 20 Captains as the Warchiefs bring bodyguards which you can see on the Sauron's Army page with connected lines. If they have none, no sweat, just quickly kill the Warchief and continue. Once all other objectives are complete, kill your Warchief(s) with cn_down and boom, achievement unlocked.

*As LightHordy mentioned in the comments, there's a chance you can be short points after getting the Captains settled. They suggest fast traveling and spawning Graugs for mounted kills to boost the points if you need a cushion.

I did this on my second run with 33 minutes on the clock after using the first run to fine tune my strategy. Just keep your cool, take your time and it will happen. Good luck and good hunting. toast

The general strategy that I have used is to go immediately to War Chiefs, ride a Graug and start eating them all starting with the captains.
If it takes too long with the "Kugor Beast Hunter" restart the game.
Do not waste time to gather more information than necessary (unless they are very close).

In detail :

1) Gather info on the first War Chief and go to the mission (Gather more info only if they are really close)
2) Always use quick travel and run with "shooting" (Press cn_A after falling from a stone)
3) When exit the War Chief, ride a Graug following the map attached with the respawn points

http://prntscr.com/dz2fhu (new one Thanks GT: A REAVER2364)
or
https://1drv.ms/i/s!AtJTXF3Jo4eVqz6TyR0yqDbId5Bk (old one)

4) Eat before the captains and finally the War Chief.
5) Before leaving the area, still on Graug and use the spectral view to eliminate more captains in the area. Use vomit on the guards (press cn_X on Graug) to increase your score.
6) Gather info on the upcoming War Chief and repeat.

At the end of the 5 War Chief you should be at this point:
- 25-30 minutes
- Kill all 5 War Chiefs
- Kill 10-15 Captains with monsters
- Approximately 9000-10000 points

7) Go to the secondary missions NEAREST to respawn points of Graug
8) When the mission begins again used a Graug (do not bother to battle on). Choose first a battle mission between two captains for two consecutive eliminarde.
9) Before you kill the last captain sure to be close to 13,000 points.

That's all.
Sorry linguistic inaccuracies! facepalm

I did something different then the guided that have been around for a while.

No credit to me. Found on this site or another then watched a YT vid. Got the achievement on 5/9/2020.

I immediately found intel and uncovered Ugakuga. Fought and branded him. Then had him riot against every captain and war chief. Every riot location should have a graug bait (besides the lower left one, but if you run North a bit you can see a sliver of a graug bait from one of the other locations) fast travel often to make sure tge baits spawn in. Just graug bite/kill everything! But save Uga until the very end. You want to have enough points.

Did mine in 38:32 with 15,413, could have probably ended around 36:00 but I ran around getting points because I wanted to make sure I would end with 13,000 pts.

Farm caragors and graugs by shadow dominating and killing to get up to 12,000. Then kill Uga and you'll get it. Good luck. Message me for questions.

There is a lot of strategy guides out here, but for this one achievement luck plays a huge factor, making each play be different. The best we can do is share the strategy and procedure that worked for us to achieve this stupid achievement, so I will give an abstract of steps of what I did, and a more detailed description of the whole process. The video above is to share the moment when I made it and to show that, maybe, this two hateful achievements could still be obtainable after servers closure.

Summary Strategy:

1. Get intel for at least 10 captains locatable in map. To the left side of the tower appear 1 or 2 uruks to dominate and get intel. If you collect green intel, use it to reveal warchiefs - the only ones that matter here are Ugakuga or Zugor.
2. Once you have captains located, trace a map route to ride on the Graug with the active spectrum vision, find the captains and eat them. In the starting area there is a Graug bait under a wooden bridge.
3. Once the objective of killing 10 captains with beasts is achieved, go challenge a warchief: Ugakuga or Zugor. Make the mission to make him appear, weaken it and try to dominate it to begin to riot to the other warchiefs/captains.
4. After each riot order, press cn_down on the controller to kill the warchiefs' followers and score points.
5. When you face Shakflak (or whatever it's called) seek to kill him with Graug. If you have to kill Zugor, do so with arrows and fire arrows without giving him a break.
6. This is pure luck tied, so if you see Graug bait nearby, use it to kill enemies with the beast.

TIPS:
♦ Abuse of fast travel and shadow ability to move long distances without wasting valuable time.
♦ Time does not run while arc pointing spectrum vision is active.
♦ Time does not run in the pause menu, both on the map and Sauron's army.
♦ Memorize the location of the baits for Graug. This is the map: https://ibb.co/X8HMVMk
♦ Graugs instantly kill captains and warchiefs alike, ignoring their strengths and weaknesses.
♦ If a warchief / captain is afraid and runs away, chase him before he escapes to save time.
♦ When running with Talion, look for gain speed up by passing over rocks or slopes.
♦ Use the green information to reveal the warchiefs: those who are important to reveal are Ugakuga or Zugor.
♦ Ugakuga is strong but slow, yet tough to knock down, while Zugor is weak but dangerous with explosive spears. Both give the option to brand or kill them by weakening them.
♦ Warchief Shakflak is a Master of Combat and invulnerable to everything, so try to kill him with a Graug.
♦ If a warchief or captain is killed by another uruk, you will not get the points for their deaths. You have to kill them yourself to get those points.
♦ Killing beasts like Graug and Caragors earns you good points. Whenever you can, try to do it. Also a few chain executions of uruks.
♦ Killing captains with Caragors, vomit from Graug, or crushed by Graug also counts towards the extra objective.
♦ When captains and warchiefs introduce themselves, time ticks during the dialogue with you.
♦ Fast travel restores baits, uruks and your focus.
♦ If you riot a warlord, he will go to the mission with his bodyguards, saving you time to search them for kill. If the warchief dies first, they can run away.
♦ If you hit Advance Time, captains will rise in rank and some may become bodyguards for warchiefs.
♦ After ordering a new riot, press cn_down on the controller to dispatch the all branded uruks nearby and earn points.
♦ You get 1000 extra points for meeting the goal of doing it in less than 40 min.
♦ Eliminate all captains and warchiefs. If a captain becomes a warchief, even if you already have 5/5 warchief killed, the counter will now say that you have 4/5 again.

MY DETAILED PROCEDURE:
a. Get intel from only about the captains needed:
Getting data from the 20 captains seemed like a waste of time, so after appearing in the tower, there are always 1-2 uruks to master on the left. I activated the spectrum vision, used the shadow ability to knock them out, grab them and brand them to get the intel of a shadow captain, then I fast-traveled back to the starting tower and repeated this process until I had at least 10 or 11 captains locations. Eventually, I got green intel, which I used only to reveal warchiefs until I unlocked Ugakuga.

b. Kill 10 captains with the Graug:
Once the captains were located on the map, I summoned and mounted the Graug using a nearby bait that is in this starting area, hanging from a wooden bridge. I mapped a route that best suited to me to fetch the captains while mounting the Graug, and using specter vision to find and eat / vomit them. I noticed that some captains only appear on the map until you discover their intel.

c. Dominate the Ugakuga / Zugor warchief:
After fulfilling the extra objective of killing 10 captains with beasts, I killed the Graug and made my way with fast travel towards the mission to take out Ugakuga. I accomplished the mission for the warchief to come to the battlefield and he brought 3 bodyguards with him, so I only focused on Ugakuga to weaken him and overpower him, but by mistake I ended up killing him, so I only had Zugor left as warchief to control. I killed Ugakuga's bodyguards and searched for green intel to reveal Zugor's whereabouts, I went and fulfilled his mission to get him out. Right after appearing on the battlefield, I attacked him non-stop with arrows and fire arrows until he got to his knees, I approached him and gave me the option to brand him.

d. Arming riots against caudillos and captains:
Right after dominating Zugor, I ordered him to riot against another warchief who had 3 bodyguards. I went with fast travel to the riot mission and killed his captains and lackeys, while Zugor killed the warchief and finished the mission. At the conclusion of the mission, I grabbed Zugor to brand him again and order another riot to another warchief. After the riot mission appeared on the map, I pressed cn_down to dispatch Zugor's branded followers and score points. I traveled to the new mission site and repeated the process.

e. Make 11,000 - 12,000 score:
I was repeating this method, but then I realized that my score was very low and I had almost no warchiefs / captains left to kill, so I had to find a way to reach at least to 12,000, since finishing the challenge in less 40 minutes gives you 1000 extra points to fulfill the 13,000 necessary. I found out that I wasn't getting points for the kills Zugor did to enemies, so I had to kill them myself to count then. This time, instead of riot a warcheif alongside his bodyguards, I riot his bodyguards one by one. I also killed some Caragors and Grougs for points, and when I saw that I had over 11,000 points, I went back to apply the method from before.

f. Against the Shaqkflak warchief (or whatever he is called):
This warchief is the most problematic because in addition to having invulnerability to everything, he is a Combat Master, which makes it practically impossible to decrease his health. The smartest way to deal with him is by killing him with a Groug. Fortunately, I found a bait to call the Groug and ate it after taking down his henchmen.

g. Eliminate the remaining enemies:
At this point, there were several captains scattered and still in hiding, so I ordered Zugor to riot a warchief without bodyguards, and before going on that mission, I made a fast travel to the tower choosing "Fast-forward" (don't know how's called in english). This way, the remaining captains ranked up and became bodyguards for the warchiefs I had yet to kill, including the one who I have rioted. I repeated the method until I killed the last warchief, who luckily I was able to exterminate using a Graug that I summoned with a bait in the area.

h. Eliminate your controlled warchief and unlock the achievement:
After eliminating the last enemy warchief, the only one left was the one at my command: Zugor, so I killed the Graug and pressed cn_down to kill all the uruks under my control, including Zugor, who made the achievement to be FINALLY unlock right after being killed.

And that's pretty much it, I wonder now if this cheevo with the other one will be unobtainable after December 31th, I hope that don't because this is luck tied and really complicated to do.

Here is my guide. took me 5 tries.

summary: get intel on war-chief. draw out war-chief. find a graug bait. attract graug. jump on graug. kill body guards. kill war-chief. repeat 4 times.

Following summary above, I got very close to completing the Test, but would miss it by a couple of minutes. I made an adjustment, before I start on the war-chiefs, I do two tasks which take 6 minutes:
- get some intel on captains. 1-3.
- take a loop around the map with the graug. fast-travel to NE castle. grab graug, kill the captains there. run the graug to the NW castle, kill captains there. run the graug to the South castle, kill the captains here. doing this, you should get 4-10 captain kills with the graug. this will simplify our end game, and make your war-chief battles easier because there will be less bodyguards. best-scenario, you could have 10 captains killed within 8 minutes.

here is how I got the idea (not my video):
