How to unlock the Tragic Loss achievement in Mortal Shell: Enhanced Edition - Definitive Guide
Crucix is the boss for the "Shifting Archives" zone and this achievement is for making him go from being alive to not. Last chance to avoid further spoilers.
===Before You Start===
To access this fight you will interact with a candle stand-like looking object in front of a giant skull which will activate a mini cutscene and drop you to the boss room.
Before doing this though, make sure to check out screen left to see a giant Sester Genessa for a checkpoint. The right side of the room will provide a healing mushroom spawn point.
WARNING: You will take a large chunk of damage from the fall which cannot be avoided unless you have the skill "Recollection of Knowledge" in which case you can harden while falling to negate it.
Note: If you do not have this skill it is possible to cheat the damage if you had died in your previous attempt while inside your shell; you recover all your health back if you recover your shell. Dying outside of a shell though allows tar recovery, but not health.
===Phase One===
The cutscene should have answered why he is called "Twiceborn." He may be as ugly as he is red, but equally as much of a pain so play carefully. His larger self fights with melee while his smaller self fights ranged. Overall, it's best to try to remain at a medium to close range which will allow you to avoid attacks but also not be too far to more often trigger his annoying ranged attacks.
+At the start of the fight he will charge at you. Just don't rush at him and it will do nothing.
+His main combo attack to look out for is him swinging at you twice, followed with a spear thrust. You can roll through these rather easily or use harden for one of the hits. Additionally, if skilled enough you can parry him to stop it. However I find it easiest to parry the spear thrust at the end, but this is your most common opportunity to get hits in.
Note: If you do not have enough resolve to riposte after your parry, Mini-Me will shoot arrows at you when his larger self is knocked down, making parrying not ideal unless you have riposte ready.
+Sometimes he will only swing twice with his spear instead. If he looks tired out after this attack you know there will be no thrust and can attack him now.
+Rarely he will ONLY thrust
+Occasionally he will jump back and crouch behind his shield. Mini-Me will forever shoot arrows at you in slow increments if you do nothing. You need to get close to him, dodging with the rhythm to the sides. Don't try to get a hit in as once close enough he will stand again starting a combo. Simply bait him out of doing that and continue on.
+Rarely he will shoot 3 burst arrows at you. Harden through it.
+At 20-30% health he will add a jump attack paired with shooting at you. Simply harden through the entire move. On landing on you he jumps back though, so coming out of harden, do a jump attack towards him for a free hit. Try to always keep harden ready for this move. You can roll out of it if you time it right, but it's more risky and you lose the free hit.
===Phase Two===
Lawl. You thought it was over. After a cutscene, Mini-Me will "leave" the fight disabling all ranged attacks. He is kinda still the same fight but far more aggressive only allowing you to get in one (maybe two with harden) hits in at a time. But there are a few changes. Oh and yes he gets all his health back.
+His three hit combo ends with a stab onto the ground with his spear instead of a thrust. Keep medium distance so it will miss you but allow you to easily walk up for a hit after.
+Sometimes he slams the ground several times cuz he hates the ground, so don't walk into that if he continues.
+Sometimes he does this in a shorter combo, but with an axe instead. Still hates the ground, just showing different ways to hate it.
+He can kick you. It won't do damage but will knock you down to be vulnerable. This is not Sparta.

Crucix can be rather challenging, but after you've failed about 20 times you'll really start to see how reputative and easy to read his attacks end up becoming so keep going and you, fine reader, shall have an achievement, pride, accomplishment, and the ability to give your opinion about this game vs Dark Souls.
