How to unlock the Never Lost achievement in Myst - Definitive Guide
This is my first guide so I hope I did it right. I recommend you beat the game on classic first just to get familiar with the puzzles, although on randomize the solutions will be different. I won’t explain the other puzzles as you can find solutions to those elsewhere.
1. Start a new game on randomize.
2. Turn on “Display Gameplay Context Subtitles” in the settings under display. This will make a visual representation of certain puzzle sounds display on screen. This is technically not required but will make it vastly easier.
3. Get to the Selenitic Age.
4. Solve the sound puzzle with the antenna and get to the maze.
5. Once you are lowered in the maze you have to get to the end without getting lost and hitting back on the left lever to re-trace your path. Each cardinal direction has a sound associated with it and they’re actually the same sounds from the fortress rotation in the Mechanical Age. On both my classic and randomized playthroughs the sounds for each direction were the same so they shouldn’t be randomized. The path to the end itself is randomized. Each time you move and stop a sound will play indicating which direction to go next. You can also press the center button replay the sound. If two sounds play you have to go between them (ie: “NE”, “SW”). Once you get to the end the achievement should pop. I’ll put the sounds in spoilers just incase someone wants to figure them out.

Fyi: it counts as backtracking if after lowering the ship onto the rails you go straight back up again before starting the actual maze. Realized I couldn't save after getting to the rails so traveled back up. Achievement didn't pop, and of course now I didn't have a save from BEFORE backtracking. Luckily just re-entering the age and doing the same maze was enough to get it, didn't require a new game.
Also, I can't believe how easy it is once you are aware of the sound cues. First time I did this age I just mapped it out. Hadn't done Mechanical yet...

I would never have thought to use subtitles for sound effects. That's a great help!
Also, I recommend to save before attempting.

This achievement is for getting all the way through the maze in Selenitic without backtracking on a Randomized playthrough. I just finished my Random playthrough and interestingly the pattern is exactly the same as on Classic. Be sure to save right before starting just in case you mess up.
TL;DR
The sequence is (Cardinal direction with how many right or left turns):
Detailed Guide:
The control panel in the Golden Vehicle consists of an up/down lever on the left, a right/left lever on the right, a small button in the middle, and a compass on the top.
Push the left lever up to get started. Each crossroads will play one of four sounds; (Clink Sound), (Spin Sound), (Exhaust Sound), or (Cowbell Sound) (and sometimes two at once). Each one corresponds to a cardinal direction.
North - Clink
East - Exhaust
South - Cowbell
West - Spin
If it plays two sounds at once, pick the diagonal between them. IE Clink and Spin would be NW. The button in the middle will replay the sound if you need to. The lever on the right turns the pod.
The sequence is above but I'll put it here too:

Just an FYI, the sequence is still random. You're suffering observer bias ;)
My random journey was very different. However, the sounds still mapped to the same direction. Of course I too many be suffering observer bias, so more data (welcome commenters) is needed

Forget about that stupid sounds about where to go (especially since they bugged for me).
Just make sure your compass shows the direction below (if u use left or right, doesnt matter as long u aligned right at the end) and then pull the lever up. At the End your through the maze and get ur chevo.
N, W, N, E, E, S, S, W, SW, W, NW, NE, N, SE
