How to unlock the Master of Madness achievement in Neverwinter - Definitive Guide

Before going into the guide a couple of pointers!

- For me, Gold popped when getting Gold in the 1st and 2nd section and Silver in the 3rd (Silver was 3/4 bar full). Whether this was intentional or a glitch I don't know but it seems you can get Gold without getting Gold on all 3 sections.

- I grouped with randoms so team composition can vary, but we had 4 DPS and 1 pally. Not gonna say or insist you need a buff, a heal, a tank etc this is possible without any specific team mix, the important thing is you all work together!

Stage 1 - kill daemons. These will spawn from the purple portals (no need to taunt), just kill as quickly as possible. Try and stay as a group and kill together rather than separating. Sometimes you will get dazed like in Demogorgon, run into the blue circles around the pillars to remove this! The circles appear at random so you may have to run round the other side of the map. The quicker/more kill the quicker the progress bar will fill!

Stage 2 - as before except the pillars ability to produce blue circles will diminish over time. Collect fazress potions from daemons as you kill them, run up to a portal and click A as many times as you have potions. Potions are stored in your inventory and only limited by that on the amount you can carry. Killing daemons does NOT fill the progress bar, only using potions on the pillars will! Try and spread around the potions to all the pillars if you can. The quicker you do this, the more time you will have left to repair the pillars by doing the same before the next stage starts. Again the blue circles are random.

Stage 3 - simples, kill the Balor. Occasionally you will get disabled like in stage 1, just run to the nearest pillar to remove this.

Note from playing this - If everyone concentrates on the Balor during stage 3 and spams their at-wills, there should be no need to keep running back and forth to the blue circles. You can do a constant stream of damage just with your at-wills that will more than compensate for running between each pillar trying to remove the disable affect. Disabling DOES NOT disable your at-wills or your determination power (the bar that fills on the left side of your aim cursor). Playing as a GWF I gave up trying to remove disable and just spammed my at-wills and used Determination when it was full and did the most damage to the Balor as everyone else was running around trying to remove the effect. This worked for me, it may not work for you, but try it and compare your damage at the end.

If all goes well, you should get Gold on at least 2 of the stages (go for all 3 just in case) and ping there is your Gold!

How do you play this variant? Can you get it by queuing?

@CRUM LEE You can queue the skirmish, but you can't choose the variant.
This seems to be the hardest gold to get. I've never gotten a gold in stage 1, and most groups can't even get a silver!
Finally got the achievement today by going Silver/Gold/Gold.

So uh, what is the trick to this? Ran this thing at least 50 times trying to get a group that can gold. I am endgame built, can't remember the last time I wasn't top DPS - is it a matter of getting a group of 5 DPS who are Zariel-capable, more-or-less? Any advice?

I'm convinced this is literally impossible at this point. They broke something. My group literally kills everything on screen during the first phase to the point where we are standing there waiting for more enemies to spawn. They don't spawn fast enough to even get close to gold on that phase.

Then in the second phase, the essence you have to put in the columns is scarce, and every time the game ends the phase with 30+ seconds left for no reason! Making it impossible to get gold.

The third phase the Balor gets melted every time for a gold in that phase, but it's not enough to overcome the bullshit of the first two phases and push through for gold. What a pain in the ass.

Making a session for this seems like a moot point, tried a few times, and tried to rally people in PE chat/alliance chat. If anyone is getting a serious group together, I have the 10% demon damage enchant ready to go, more-or-less endgame built, down run this "easy" skirmish like it's sweaty endgame content. Hoping a fix happens for the broken round 1 and 2, seems unlikely, just need to push through it. Getting the highest silver the game will let you get rounds 1 and 2, then having super good single target burn on the round 3 boss for a very high gold there, it can be done, according to one of the only people to get this achievement on TA in the last 6 months. Just have to approach it like you're prepping Vault of Stars.

Anyone have any tips for this aside from what's in the guide? I've managed to finish the skirmish in 7:45 or so, but all three finish Silver. Should we not be finishing as fast? Seems like speed doesnt impact points, so we might be fixing the wards too quick, but not killing things in phase 1 fast enough?

I did it. I only collected dps and we used stronghold boost which is 10 percent against demons. We had silver twice and gold once, but we had big damage so we got gold. Overall, the achievements jumped because of some mistake. The game is broken and therefore it is not possible to get many achievements anymore because the developers have artificially made it difficult. this game has died and the players have fled. I've been trying to get a team on tomm for several weeks, but to no avail. everyone over 50 item level but it doesn't do anything. however, the master zariel requires level 35, which is a common mockery of the game developers. Even Ninja Gaiden wasn't that hard. Everything changed in the rework. it killed the game

This achievement is still technically possible, can personally confirm. I was able to unlock it today, January 8th 2022, during mod 21.

This guide is relevant if the Skirmish hasn't been patched/rebalanced. This achievement has been almost impossible to unlock for years as of this writing. I don't think there's been anyone listed under recent unlocks in the last 6 months, other than my team. There's very good reasons for that - Cryptic's changes and inattention is forcing us to go to absurd lengths currently. But the difficulty could change. If there's a fix, sometime during mod 22 or later, then this guide is massive overkill. Please keep that in-mind - this is only for if nobody on TA has unlocked the achievement in months and if the gold rank seems unreasonably far off when you try for it, even with a good group.

This achievement requires 5 DPS with endgame builds, literally. You can't have a healer or a tank with you, the DPS loss would make the achievement impossible. Roughly 55k-60k ilvl (for mod 21's meta) average with mostly best in slot gear on everyone, all built focused purely on maximum damage. If you bring one person with, like, 50k ilvl made up of not-best in slot gear, the achievement becomes more-or-less impossible. The margin of error allowed on waves 1 and 3 is extremely small - if you get 1 or 2 less portal spawns in wave 1 from people getting kills a half second too slow on average, or if the wave 3 boss dies in 9-10 seconds instead of 7-8 seconds, you'll get silver instead of gold.

Wave 1, every spawn needs to die fully within about 3 seconds of it appearing, and the team needs to strategize on which encounter powers are used and in what order to cause that. Just perfect gear isn't good enough. What seemed to work best, was using your longest encounter cooldown timer by clocking right when spawns happen in relation to it, making sure to use the ability at the same point every time so it's reliable, to keep track of right when spawns will happen. Then, dropping any damage over time AOEs a second or two before the spawn, any 1-hit AOE the moment of the spawn, then immediately a single target encounter on the balgura/whichever is the beefiest enemy for the portal, so everything dies together. Each portal's spawn timer is individual/not connected to the others, and doesn't reset until every enemy that came out that portal is dead, so the goal is to kill all of the enemies from your portal as fast as possible. If you need to use 1 or 2 at-wills to finish off the strongest enemy, that will be too slow and you will get a final silver rank.

The trick is 1 single target encounter power for the biggest enemy, with 2 AOEs to kill everything fast, dropping all 3 encounters as soon as they become effective. 1 person per portal, don't run around at all, other than for grabbing the debuff purge when the blue ring is close to you. The blue screen, can't use powers debuff happens at 15 debuff stacks - the little red buckled over in pain guy icon with the number next to it. If you quickly go in and out of a blue ring each time it rotates close to you, you'll only ever get to 8-9 stacks and no actual debuff. If anyone somehow gets the actual debuff right as their enemies spawn, the 5-15 seconds to go grab the ring and come back and then kill will essentially void the achievement and you should restart.

Person 5/the lowest DPS supports whoever is taking a split-second longer than everyone else to completely clear their portal. This wave needs to end as essentially the highest silver possible, or no gold, a little over a 2/3rds full bar while at silver.

Wave 2 will end no matter what exactly half way to gold (or when time runs out) - it's broken. But it's easy to max out at the broken half way to gold amount. Just do the same everyone has their own portal strategy, run around and collect the essence from other portals every 2-3 spawns you kill, cross through a blue ring if it's close while you do it, wave 2 has a lot of leeway to mess up and go slow - not at all required to optimize like you do for waves 1 and 3.

What's important is how you use this wave to prepare for the perfect execution required wave 3.

Collect up essence and kill enemies until there is a minute left, then everyone goes to a different pillar (with one double-stacked). Before dumping in your essence, everyone needs to change powers mid-Skirmish, each AOE encounter changed to a single-target encounter, before you go into wave 3. The last boss will not die fast enough if all 5 people do not all have 3 single-target encounters, which need to be changed to before the end of wave 2 by pausing, going down to powers, and equipping new ones manually.

Everyone changes from AOEs to single targets, everyone then loads their essence into their pillar, you should end with a silver rank and the bar half way full. Everyone should automatically get their debuff stacks purged by the blue ring landing on them with the amount of time you'll be standing there loading in essences, so you won't need to think about that extra variable.

Once the wave end message appears, everyone needs to immediately reposition to where the final boss spawns, and be standing almost on top of the spawn before the wave 3 cutscene activates/before the boss spawns. If you aren't all 5 already standing close to where the boss spawns as it spawns after the cutscene, the second or two of movement where you could be damaging but aren't will fail the gold, it causes wave 3 to be too slow. Being really careful about all being as close to the boss spawn as possible as wave 2 ended, reacting and moving quickly, was the last strategic change needed for my group getting the gold. This wave needs to be not just gold, but a really, really high about as perfect as technically possible gold where only a few seconds pass from the cutscene to the boss dying. Drop all mount and artifact powers, all dailies, then all encounters. The boss should die in about 7-8 seconds after the cutscene.

Pull that all off and you can, juuussttttt barely, still get gold. Get a feel for it, don't get frustrated, strategize, think about every little thing you're doing then eek out every second of efficiency where you're able, and along with the required builds, you'll get it.

Of note, for gold, the rank bar at the end doesn't need to be full, just almost full. A really close to gold run's bar will be indistinguishable from a gold run's bar. You need the bar overall about 95%-ish full, for it to be a gold final rank.

Demonic Incursion is a variation of the 'Prophecy of Madness'; which has three phases:

Phase 1: 'Abyssal Tears' will appear around the arena that will spawn enemies upon their destruction. Close the initial 'green' tears in the room, and then destroy the adds. Don't just close tears and then kite adds all over the place. Killing the adds will spawn more tears. Close as many as possible to earn gold.

Phase 2: This is a repeat of Phase 1, except blue and purple tears will accompany the green tears. The larger tears will spawn tougher enemies. Upon the start of the phase, two green, three blue and one purple will spawn (the amounts can vary, but there's always one purple). To efficiently earn gold you want to focus on the purple tear first, and at least two blue tears; do not bother with the green tears at all! Try and open tears that are within close proximity to each other so as not to waste time running around the zone. Upon the death of the spawned enemies, a new purple and two blue tears will spawn for you to open. Keep DPS up and kill the adds as quickly as you can. Rinse and repeat until you earn gold.

Phase 3: Defeat Balor; he's a large demon boss. Just zerg it!
