How to unlock the All Star achievement in Pool Nation FX - Definitive Guide

I recommend doing this in the 9-ball career as the 9-ball career is quicker gameplay-wise than the 8-ball career.

There are three challenges for each non-qualifying round in each tournament.

The various challenges will be varieties of the following:

Jump Shot - Pot a ball whilst using a jump shot. Note that it will ONLY count as a Jump shot if the cue ball actually jumps a ball. This will not count if you just make the cue ball jump on the table, but not over a ball.
Bank Shot - Pot a ball which target ball hits a cushion (NOT pocket edges) and bounces into a pocket.
Kick Shot - Pot a ball where the cue ball has first come off of a cushion (NOT pocket edges) before hitting the target ball, which has then been potted.
Combo Shot - Pot a ball using a 'plant'. E.g. Cue Ball hits the 1-ball, which is the target ball, and the 1-ball bounces into the 2-ball, and the 2-ball gets potted.
Swerve Shot - Pot a ball by swerving the cue ball around another ball to get to the target ball. This will not count if you just make the cue ball swerve on the table, but not around a ball that is in the way of the target ball.
Score - Have a total score of the given amount by the end of the match. This is where you CAN use jump shots, swerve shots, kick shots, bank shots, and all other manners of tricks to boost your score, even if you don't need to jump a ball, swerve a ball, or bounce off of a cushion.
Shot Score - Get the given amount of points in a single shot. The highest requirement I've seen for a shot score is 10,000 points. The best way I found to do this was to use a jump & swerving shot to bounce off of either end cushion to perform a Combo Shot. This gets around 13,000 points if it's a good shot.
Pot Streak - Highest I've seen for this is 7. All you have to do is pot the given number of balls without missing a shot or fouling.

Note that challenges will NOT be completed if you do not win the game/match. You must win the game/match that you complete the challenge in.

Furthermore, when you complete a 'Final' in an area, and you've done all the challenges, do NOT worry if the tournament stats says 12/15 for challenges - it's just not counting the three you've done in the final. However, if you go back to the stats page for the final after you're back in the match selection, you can see that the challenges have indeed counted.

Hope this helps.

I did all my challenges on easy w/ extended & as far as I remember it doesn't affect the points since it's the difficulty of the shot that gives the points besides that you need to do ALL CHALLENGES on the same difficulty & some like Jump shots are as good as impossible without extended aim.
I hope it helps,good luck :)

Being that it's been quite awhile since I finished my last achievement in this game I haven't played it since but if (&that's a big IF) I remember it right, you should be able to change this at any time but unless you get a challenge that require a jump shot you don't have to change it & if you do get a jump shot challenge then you'll have to replay that match any way so simply change it when you can & leave it on ALWAYS since there's absolutely no reason what so ever to take it of... you're gonna need it & it's not gonna affect the AI difficulty in any way so...
And with that out of the way, good luck to you too wave

Noted... easy to spot when I finished the second 9-ball tournament, and despite having them all ticked it said 11/15 challenges.

Go back and check and 2 have become unticked... this game is glicthed to fu*k

Can I redo specific challenges in an area to complete this if one has gone through the whole campaign for 9 ball?

@Overkill - yes, you can. You can play each round by just selecting the round with cn_LB & cn_RB. Select the round you need and just press 'continue' to replay the match.

I see that now. They aren't, by default it shows tournament stats. You have to move the right stick to switch to challenges. Yet another completely undocumented part of this game. I'm tired of figuring out the controls on the fly for this thing.

Also found out that the lightning bolts near your score represent retries that the game doesn't tell you about. They're pretty damn handy when going for this achievement. Just pause, go to Instant Replay, and hit the Start button again from inside replay to immediately retry your last shot.

^ that's actually not as hard as it sounds, you can easy get 5-10,000 points a shoot so simply make sure to ALWAYS use swerve shot instead of a normal shot whenever possible.
Jump shots are another easy way of making high points shots... if any one struggle with these I can recommend the 1st Pool Nation (as far as I know only available on the 360) where there's a tutorial that takes you through all of the shots, even some rather impossible, like shotting your ball up on the side of the table & back on to the table, never managed to do that one lol :) Any way Good Luck to everyone wave

You don't have to actually swerve around a ball for it to register. You will see in my video clip that I perform a swerve shot on the blue ball to pot it and it registers. I went on to win the game and it counted towards the achievement when the match ended.

Not really sure about this one,I did my challenges on 8-ball simply because I had completed 9-ball before learning that according to some solutions, challenges should be easier in 9-ball,but I'm getting off topic. . .
It could be a matter of settings, maybe some rule that don't allow jump shots? However if it's a glitch of some sort, the natural solution would be to restart the game &/or XBone or even reinstall the game if nothing else works.
Good Luck smile

It’s worth noting that on easy mode, when you foul, the bot has a big chance of fouling on their shot. This can be used so that you can move the ball puprosely behind another and set up a swerve or jump
Edit: I used Easy, Extended Aim, on 9 ball

Not really sure what to add that haven't been said above,I played w/ exact same setting & simply kept doing swerve shots & if you have gotten the 10K in one shot, 40K in one frame should definitely be possible for you too :)
As he says in the solution, ALWAYS use a trickshot of some sort, like jump, swerve, bank, kick, combo & so on, it won't come easy but keep practicing those high point shots while keeping the streak alive & you'll get there & again my goto was swerve shots...hope it help & best of luck wave

been awhile but if I remember it right there are more balls on 8 ball, right? if so it makes sence that it would be easier doing the 40K one in 8ball smile but beyond that there shouldn't be the big difference however 9ball will always be faster/easier to win since you just need to pot the 9ball dance
Oh & congrats assassinDMG toast

I am on Tournament 4, Stage 1 (Manchester) and the challenge is to score 30,000, in one frame. I'm playing 8-Ball, I have swerved and jumped and 8-Balled him, and I still can't get higher than 26,892. There must be a way of beating this, but I don't know how. Any ideas?

Have you tried increasing the distant? As said above it's been awhile since I've played but as far as I know we all get the same challenges so if you're struggling with the 30K one, the 40K is gonna be a nightmare, however here's a copy/paste from a few helpful comments above

Helpful Comments from above about the 30K/40K in one frame challenges:

The Croissant said:
...How to actually do the particular shots. Thought I'd try to help. Dwaggienite does a good job explaining what these shots are in the solution, but here are some particulars.

Swerve Shots - I find it easiest to see the curved path when you have a lot of power on your shot. I recommend filling the power bar up to about 75% and locking it with RB. Use left or right on the D-Pad to choose the direction to swerve in, and use RT to really accentuate the curve. Some backspin usually helps too. The controls are fickle, just play with it a little and you'll figure it out.
Jump Shots - Easiest for me to lock the power bar at 100%. Use RT to raise the butt of the cue all the way, you'll see the jump that the cue ball will make after this. From there adjust the cue angle with LT/RT, LT jumps the ball further while RT brings it closer, and adjust the power accordingly.

Like I said, the controls can be fickle. Lining up a good shot can be frustrating, but the aim assist makes it easily doable. Hope this helps.

A couple more notes for the 40,000 score in one frame challenge.

- Pot streaks do add some kind of multiplier to each successive pot
- Using your retry ability deducts points from your total score so try avoiding this unless absolutely necessary (I believe it also kills your streak multiplier but cannot confirm)
- To give yourself the best chance after you or your opponent breaks and you do not get the very next shot just restart. You want as many balls on the table as possible for good jump shots.
- Try tie two skill shots together for example jump/swerve into a combo or kick or bank makes good points.

So annoying this challenge, I'm jumping and swerving from the other end of the table to register a measly 4-5000 points, you can not always set up a jump shot, or a combo shot, this game always seems to put the balls against the cushion, with all the spots on the left side and the stripes on the right. Best I have managed so far is 20000. I'm on new York round 1

I made a capture video of a slo-mo Kick / Double Bank + Combo shot, you can see me check my score in-game before and after and it increased by over 20,000 points with one wild shot! Don't fret if you're struggling for points. Take wild but calculated shots as soon as the frame begins. Check your score frequently and restart if you're not where you should be. I played most of the match conservatively after hitting 30k points in 3 shots.

Round 1 in New York (Nine ball) - 40,000 score in one frame was the hardest for me. In the end I was just smashing the yellow (first ball) off as many sides as I could and if it hit another ball in, then more score. If I missed or AI started with a pot, I would restart. Game I got 54.000 on, I broke and potted for 1064, next shot went round the table and potted another ball for 28,000. I then just cleared the rest of the table normally. So there was more luck then anything in getting this challenge.

Hey guys, saw that some people were asking about how to actually do the particular shots. Thought I'd try to help. Dwaggienite does a good job explaining what these shots are in the solution, but here are some particulars.

Swerve Shots- I find it easiest to see the curved path when you have a lot of power on your shot. I recommend filling the power bar up to about 75% and locking it with RB. (Can't insert boldface/button images, doing this on my phone. Apologies.) Use left or right on the D-Pad to choose the direction to swerve in, and use RT to really accentuate the curve. Some backspin usually helps too. The controls are fickle, just play with it a little and you'll figure it out.
Jump Shots- Easiest for me to lock the power bar at 100%. Use RT to raise the butt of the cue all the way, you'll see the jump that the cue ball will make after this. From there adjust the cue angle with LT/RT, LT jumps the ball further while RT brings it closer, and adjust the power accordingly.

I'm rather sure it does but being that it's almost 3yrs since I got the achievement I could be wrong ... I remember I had to do it on the "harder" 9-ball for some reason, & know you have to do it on the same difficulty which I'd say both points towards that it have to be done on the same career but please correct me if you find that I'm wrong, bet others could use that information smile

Being a decent snooker player in real life came in handy for this with the doubles + plants (banks + combos in pool talk) and a tiny bit of tactical play.

Didn't realise until I'd finished the last event either that you can go back through and replay any of the matches so you haven't binned the entire achievement if you don't complete a challenge then accidentally move on to the next game.

Also take advantage of AI fouls and position the white where you need it, I found playing safety shots and trying to snooker the AI to draw a foul out of it was better than trying to set up a jump shot yourself from a pot.

Finally always use restart before the game ends instead of retry afterwards, I was using retry earlier and the challenges change in the pause menu if you won the previous game, I completed those 3 then finished the tournament only to find I had 13/15 stars and it was the game I retried on that had only 1 challenge completed, the challenges I actually had to do were the original ones so I don't know what's going on there.

This solution should hopefully maximize your chances of getting this achievement (and ease your worries about the 40,000 point challenge).
For how specific challenges work, refer to Dwaggienite's solution.

When I read the comments and talked to people, everyone got me worried about the 40,000 points challenge. But this challenge is easy. You don't even need to get all 40K in one frame, but rather the whole match, which can last up to a max of 3 frames (lose 1 and win 2). All points you get are added to your total match score at the end (This has been tested and confirmed). Just make sure you ultimately win the match.

You should be able to easily get 40,000 points in 1 to 1.5 frames. Here is how:

1. First of all, of course use extended aiming and play on easy. This needs to be set when you start the career and can't be changed after you've begun.
2. Play 8-Ball. NOT 9-Ball. In 9-Ball you are forced to play the next ball in the sequence, which limits your shot options significantly. In 8-Ball you can choose which ball you will pot next and you have many of the AI's balls to swerve around and jump over.
3. Learn how to swerve and jump:
A good starting point for jumps is to press cn_RT all the way, and set your power to around 75% (lock it with cn_RB). Then play around with the settings until you have the perfect shot. You can also add front/back spin (cn_up/cn_down).
For swerves you just add a spin with cn_left or cn_right to what you did above for the jump. (To get a good swerve you need to have a jump in your shot.)
4. This point is specifically for the get "X points in one match" challenges: Don't play the ball closest to you. Try to set up a shot that includes a jump as well as a swerve and traverses the entire table. Preferably, the ball that you are aiming for will be behind some other balls. Don't be afraid to bounce of a bank as well for a kick shot bonus. All this shouldn't be a problem with the extended aiming assist on.

Hope this helps. I got this the first time I tried.

EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that some people had Tournament 6, Round 1 require you to get 40.000 points in 1 frame. This was not the case for me. That round only required 30.000 points and Tournament 6, Round 2 (which has 2 frames), required 40.000 points.

Maybe the challenges is random? I did not have any challenges that required either 30k or 40k. Rather I had two times a single 10k shoot and a 50k overall score in a match. The 50k was in the final, so had plenty of frames to do it on.

Anyway, very good solution though. Was very helpful with the explanation on how to do the jump shot and curve shot. Was stumped on that for a bit, but you explained it very good and made it very easy to understandsmile

There are 8 tests in total . They can be seen in the game pause menu when progressing through a career. Here's what their terms mean:

Jump Shot - to pocket the ball in such a way that the cue ball jumps over the ball and pockets the desired one. Simply jumping off the table does not count.
Bank Shot - to pocket the ball not immediately, but when it bounces off the board into the pocket.
Kick Shot - To pocket a ball when the cue ball first bounces off the side (NOT the edge of the pocket) and then hits the target ball, which is then pocketed.
Combo Shot - score a ball using another (second) ball. For example, the cue ball hits the 1st ball, which is the target ball, hits the 2nd ball, which is pocketed.
Swerve Shot - shoot a ball while going around another ball standing in the way. Those. The cue ball must circle the other ball after being hit to reach the target ball. Simply causing the cue ball to deviate from its intended path rather than around a ball that is in the target's path will not count.
Score – you need to reach the total score of a given amount of points by the end of the match. To score as many points as possible, you need to use all possible techniques, including jump shots, dodge shots, off the boards and others.
Shot Score – you need to get a specified number of points in one hit. The maximum requirement for this challenge can be up to 10,000 points. To do this, you can use a spinning jump kick to bounce off any side of the table and perform a combo kick, which will be worth about 13,000 points.
Pot Streak - you need to make a series of shots in a row without missing or fouling. The maximum value is 7.

Tests are considered completed only if the game (game) is won!
