How to unlock the Comeback Kid achievement in Pure - Definitive Guide
After countless (8+) hours of trying every written method I could find on the internet, I finally came across this YouTube video which annotates the entire race from start to finish and shows the perfect line to take as well as when to boost and pull off tricks to keep your boost high.
Using this method, I was able to get the achievement third go, after messing up the beginning of the third lap and coming a close second on the first two. Hopefully this will help out anyone who is still having issues with this horribly annoying achievement.
Thanks to furiousgeorge00 of YouTube for creating this video.
So go into the tutorial, press X to redo the qualification, and then just go into the race on Glamis and wait at the starting line on the last lap. Once you're 16th, juste boost like hell to the first place. The oponents seems to be dumber after redoing the tutorial, I managed to catch the 2nd on the last vertigo jump, he crashed.
it saved my life.
and me having to buy a new controller :L
At the very first jump on the track, hang left and you can take a short cut. This helps a lot for that last lap.

Some have said that starting a new World Tour puts the AI into an easier difficulty setting. That's only half true. It's the tutorials at the start of the tour that does this, not actually wiping your save file and starting a new tour (which forces you to redo the tutorial so...). Before starting, take all the upgrade parts off your ATV (as in pick any parts you like but don't choose the +1 or +2 and also don't use the Enduro/Sprint sprocket kits either as they're classed as upgrades). The reason for this is the XBox ramps the difficulty as soon as you put any +1 or +2 parts onto your ATV. Play the full tutorial and then go straight into Stage 1 on the track Glamis. As everyone else has said, there's luck involved as well as your own skill. I came within a hair's breadth 4 times before I actually got it and even had a crash on 2 of those attempts. I raced properly for the first 2 laps and then stopped on the final bend at the end of the 2nd lap. Now grind your teeth and complain about how long it takes them all to catch up. Start moving (I was actually in 16th place when I completed the 2nd lap), round the first bend to the right and under the bridge. As you approach the next jump, angle to the left by about 40 degrees and you'll be on a shortcut. Granted this isn't a big shortcut but on the race when I got the achievement it made the difference. I wouldn't have got it without that shortcut.
Credit goes to CheshireMulisha for telling me to do this on Glamis.

Course: Ocotillo Wells
After going around the corner at the start, and up the first big hill to the left, slow down and stay left. Around the corner is a red/white sign. If you go slow and bump into the sign, then back up, you will be warped far up the course.
Continue through the course over the big jump with the flames, and when it splits at the bottom, head right. As soon as you pass the rock jump, aim straight up the side and try to jump over the airplane engine sitting in the dead zone. It will warp you further up the course again.
Using these two shortcuts, you can finish a lap in under a minute.
Practice this route for your 3rd lap once you let everyone pass you. It is a good idea to have full boost ready from the previous two laps just in case.
I can show you exactly where they are located if you would like to add a video.
Credit goes to t0k3tilluch0k3 for telling me about this!
Special thanks to sirhcman for creating the video showing the first shortcut.
1.) Start a fresh save game. Play the tutorial then in the first World Tour event select the Race event on Glamis.
2.) At the start just sit and wait for about 50 seconds. Once the counter hits 50 start driving.
3.) On the first lap don't take any shortcuts but do tricks do build up your boost.
4.) On the second lap skip the first shortcut (the jump to the left right after the start when you passed the small "tunnel") but take all the others (= always stay to the left). Keep doing tricks for a full boost meter.
5.) If you timed it right you will catch up to the other drivers just before the big jump. The one with the flags right before the lap ends.
6) Stay behind them until you crossed the line to start lap 3 and then boost the hell out of your atv. Take all the shortcuts, boost when your on the ground and keep doing fresh basic tricks to maintain boost. I did B-tricks in all variations.
7) When you approach the final stretch before the big jump you should be 4th or 5th. Keep boosting, you can use it all up before the big jump. Take the jump, do a special trick and then as soon as you land boost and don't let go and hopefully you'll be 1st with 3 or 4 seconds to spare.
I completed World Tour and tried to do it with a fully modded bike with a D engine on Glamis. Tried it 2 hours straight but I just couldn't get better than 3rd place and the 1st place was always 10 seconds away. So I deleted my progress, started fresh, quick build a racing atv without any upgrades and did it on my 4th try. Always finishing 3rd or 2nd in my tries before, just barely missing 1st place.
You may want to experiment with the time you spend waiting and the shortcuts you take. I started with 60 seconds and slowly made my way down to 50 which worked perfectly for me. Try it a few times and after 2 or three runs you will quickly figure out what works best for you and your driving skills.
I hope that helps anybody who still struggles with this.
This should be done at the very beginning of the world tour, when the AI is horrible because as you progress through the game the AI becomes more difficult making it extremely difficult to obtain this trophy. I suggest you do this in stage 1 on Glamis.
NOTE: If you have already gone through most of the world tour, where the AI is more difficult, you can use this method found by RedEye420 to reset the AI back to its horrible starting state. Re-do the tutorial (go to tutorial, hit to "repeat qualification" and re-do the tutorial. This seems to reset the AI back to it's awful starting state. Win the race until the final lap, then wait at the starting line until you are 16th. You should have saved up all the boost you earned from tricking the first two laps. It only took me three tries on this map but I couldn't get it after many tries on Sandy Mountain and Ghost Creek.
Play the tutorial, then in the first World Tour event, select the Race event on Glamis.
Make sure you let everyone past you before you proceed with the last lap of the race, just before you enter lap 3.
Ensure you have your bar filled up to the max and boost as much as you can and take the recommended route on the last lap that I took.
I did crash as you’ll see in the video, but luckily I still got the achievement.
Good luck!
This is what i used:
Driver: Takeshi Yukie
ATV: Holded the Button
Event: Maxxis
Race: Glamis (the third one)
On the first lap, do alot of tricks and save your turbo/boost.
On the second lap, drive as usual and do your big last Jump (where you can use the special trick) and just use the brake, and wait until all other 15 participants gets passed over you. After that, slowly start driving and wait until the last guy passed the Start/finish line, and then start to boost for the first shortcut, do some tricks, drive to the left, do another couple of tricks, and then concentrate to boost and/or trick at the right moments because sometimes you land to early on the ground, or sometimes the trick doesn't want to stop. And then you should boost and drive as fast as you can to get first place before your last big jump. Use on the last jump another special trick to get complete boost, and just try to boost much and avoid hitting the corner, and you should be first place and getting the cheevo. To be honest this achievement is really hard and challenging but with alot of practice and time its getting easier. I spent 3 hours on this Achievement so its actually a mix between luck and skill.
Good luck for those, who are still going for it.
Note: It has been assumed by some that if you're too far along in the World Tour rankings then this will be much harder, therefore by deleting your save file and starting fresh it may take away some of the challenge from the other riders. I can neither confirm nor deny this until I try it for myself, but if this is the case then you should be able to easily obtain this achievement while going after the 'No Messing' achievement.

If my observations are correct, then this trophy should be taken one of the first in the game , while you are at rank 80-99 in the world ranking. The longer you put off the trophy, the harder it will be to get it. And at the end of the game you can’t physically get it, because... you simply don't have enough time to get around everyone in one lap. You will have to delete your save and start over again in order to play against weak opponents again.
