How to unlock the Apocalypse Then achievement in Puzzle Quest 3 - Definitive Guide

Update: Dr Worm Buffet points out that the new boss rush mode in events can face you against this boss to unlock the achievement, but this will be time based as this mode rotates. Otherwise to guarantee him is as follows:

------

This unlocks immediately upon defeating the final boss in the archives for season 2.5, Immortal Wounds.
It's a 3 chapter story like always, and it costs 750 gems to unlock.
The final dungeon is pretty tough if you are not a high level. The final boss has a gear score of around 1800 (forgot to check) but below is an exact rundown of the final dungeon stats to know if you are ready for it and what the enemies do. If you are about 2500+ gear score you can probably ignore all of this.

Boss 1: Herald of Light - Level 46
+ Affinity: Fire (weak to ice, resistant to poison)
+ Armor: 19,943
+ Health: 25,650
+ Resistance: 11,395

Abilities

Boss 2: Herald of Darkness - Level 49
+ Affinity: Ice (weak to poison, resistant to fire)
+ Armor: 25,641
+ Health: 32,970
+ Resistance: 14,652

Abilities

Boss 3: Yog-Thadassa - Level 49
+ Affinity: dark (weak to light)
+ Armor: 34,188
+ Health: 43,960
+ Resistance: 19,536

Abilities

The entire patch 3.0 was designed to be convenient for the developers hahaha

I thought this was against Microsoft’s tos? Technically the dev has made is so that if you want this achievement you need to buy the crowns with real money.

I believe you can wait until it's available to be purchased with gems so there's a a choice not to use real money

Ah ok, makes sense. Just beat him anyways. Was a decently tough fight compared to the other one

I can't even beat the first enemy in this dungeon, even at lvl 50

@tmw666 you don't need to play the dungeon. Choose "Story" instead of "Battles". The default story pits you against enemies with gear rating of a few hundred, which you should easily one shot with a 3-skull match at Level 50

@neeker75

Sorry, i must be doing it wrong. I purchased the season and played ln normal until the final dungeon of the Story.

The first henchman has 14000 armor, 25600 life and 13000 vitality.

No idea if i missed upgrading something or where i went wrong

Hmm... those sort of stats are usually associated with hard mode (and they're actually manageable but my Citadel is 54 so these stats hardly hurt me now). But if you haven't completed normal mode, I don't think you can play hard mode so I'm not sure what's going on.

To test, I just played the boss battle in Season 1.2 Chapter II (which is a dungeon as usual), and the first enemy is 7761 armor, 9980 vitality and 4434 resistance.

I finished this story and beaten Yog Thadassa when it was available, I went into Tavern/Goals/Achievement, scrolled down to 'Apocalypse Then' and it shows completed. I clicked on it and the achievement popped.

Nevertheless, starting us at 0 is pretty ridiculous when we've done at least 10 from the previous DLC. Those should've counted in the 50. Personally I've 21/25 for one of the challenges so I'm not at all happy to be at 0/50 for this achievement. They must have screwed up some where

The achievements are tied to the in game challenges I think. So even if it's not showing progress on the Xbox achievement, you should still be half wayish there.

Nah it looks like the achievement is "complete 50 adventures FROM WHEN this DLC is launched" because that's what it's going on. Next DLC maybe we have to do 100 starting from zero? It's scummy all right. I've done scores of adventures but none of that counts.

Huh. That is weird. Wonder if it's a bug to be fixed. I did them all when we had that repeatable week and the achievement auto-popped as soon as I opened the game. Might be worth grinding the 100 next chance in case this happens again.

tmw666 is absolutely correct, the stats he quoted are the same i got playing it through first time on "easy" mode. The final boss has 44K life and 32K armor, for example. Even for my level 50(31) guy i had to use a revive to get through.

Anyway it's available now to buy for 750 crystals, glad i can finish this and delete this game again now. Is there any way to be notified when a game you have a completion of later adds DLC/title update like this on TA, incidentally?

There was an adventure that could be replayed on its last day when the DLC came out. You can keep replaying it to get to 50 if you don't mind the boredom. You need to spend gems to buy more energy but you can win some gems back from completing it

Yog'Thadassa is the final boss of Season 2.5, which at the time of writing this guide (April 2024) is only available for Crowns, which cost real-world money to purchase and will set you back $5. As future seasons are released, it is likely this will be available for 750 gems similar to the other seasonal content, and will also be featured for free in the weekly rotation. However you decide to acquire this content, you will need to complete all three chapters of the season to face off and defeat this boss, which should pose no issue if you are Player Level 50 and have high-level gear.
