How to unlock the Seasoned warrior achievement in QUAKE 4 - Definitive Guide

Seasoned Warrior - Played over 5000 ranked matches.

This is the most time consuming achievement in this game. The quickest way to get games played is, Quickie Tourneys. It takes only two kills to end the game.

The other fast way to get games played is getting 8 people together, which will get rid of the two minute counter before each match. After 8 people join the lobby the game will start. Deathmatch quickies have a 5 kill limit.

I tested it out today and if you get 8 players in a lobby each match takes 3 minutes. Even though there is no two minute timer the loading times increases because of all the accounts. Plus you have to dashboard every 5-7 games. So probably 3.5 min per game.

Seasoned Warrior - Played over 5000 ranked matches.

This is by far the most time consuming achievement in the game.

The above guide is a good solution but if you have 8 players in a lobby, it will cause an xboxlive error which usually happens every 5-7 games. When this happens all 8 players will have to go to the xbox dashbord and re-boot the game. Because if you dont then every match you play after that will no upload to the leaderbord.

If you happen to have 2 Xboxes and 2 copys of quake 4, then you can search with your main account then search with your second account on any game type. It will take 2 min to get in a game, but when you get into the game you can just quit out with your second account. And that will give you a win and a game played, total time per game with loading time approx 2.30-3.00, and from my experience i have yet to get an error. If a random should happen to jump into your lobby then dashbord both xboxes, because that may cause an xbox live error to happen.

the part about the dummy quitting out only works if your main account gets the host. if the dummy account gets the host, it will give you loading screen followed by a lost connection and will not count as a game played.

There's a trick to always getting host with your main...
Install the game to your hard drive on your main, but do NOT install it on your dummy box. Your main will always get host. Trust me...I get my final 4000 this way

Math! With this method, you can get ~18 matches an hour, 3 minutes for loading, countdown, etc. This is if you're really pushing yourself (or hitting buttons while you "work from home").

I just used my main to get get host against my dummy in deathmatch endurance. I would kill my dummy 1 time then have my dummy quit out, that way I worked on points (only 30 pts a game, at 4,200 games was near 133k!) games and kills all at the same time.

I can only comment on what's working for me. I have both Xboxes wired to the same router (no wireless connection) and I start searching with my main account first. When my main account finds an empty lobby (waiting for players... appears) I search with my dummy account and then when the game finally starts I get my dummy account to quit. This always works for me, no disconnections and no need to dashboard. I can speed things up a little by searching earlier with my dummy account, e.g. when there's 2s left on the initial 5s countdown, but I usually like to make sure I get my own lobby the first few times. I know other people have had success in controlling the host by having the main account Xbox use a wired connection and the dummy account Xbox use a wireless connection, but having both wired works for me.

Hmm oke, do you also have the game installed on your harddrive on both boxes, or just installed on 1 box?

Installed on both and I always get host on the same Xbox.

I have my game installed on one Xbox but not the other, both are on a wired connection. The box with the game NOT installed always pulls host, which is normally not my main Xbox. I just signed my main account in on the spare Xbox and put my dummy account on my main.

An easy way to tell who got host is to pay attention when the match is starting whichever Xbox goes straight to the loading screen and doesn't say Starting Game is going to be your host.

Also thanks for the DM/Endurance tip BP, obviously no one plays this game type so randoms are non-existent and it takes the 15 second warmup down to 10 which doesn't sound like a lot but when you are going for 5000 matches that's going to add up in the long run.

I noticed when I had all my 360s wireless it was all over the place which one was host but once I plugged them in and had them all wired it was always my main or my 2nd console which are both the 250gb slims. The other 2 consoles never got host while wired and they are older and I assume slower model xbox 360s. Both of the shit ones have no hard drive but I have quake 4 installed on usb sticks.

Play over 5,000 Ranked Multiplayer Matches.

I got tired of micromanaging 8-man sessions very quickly. I found that we encountered tons of Xbox Live errors, which prevented stats from properly recording. I also found that managing logistics for 7 other people, both before and during sessions, was incredibly stressful. The amount of time saved by eliminating the 2-minute countdown timer was easily lost just from the clumsy nature of the sessions. Luckily, there's another effective way of doing it that's easy, almost error-free, and requires very little attention.

1v1 Quickie Tourneys
This method is mindless, simple, and ultimately almost as effective as using 8 people. A single round of a Tourney only requires 2 players to start and 2 kills to finish, which makes them far superior to Deathmatches or CTFs. You simply need to set up Ranked Quickie Tourney matches with 1 other person (or a second box). There are a small handful of levels, each being pretty small. All you have to do is pick a spot on each map to meet your partner and have them kill you (or vice versa) twice. DO NOT bring a 3rd player into the mix, as it will add multiple rounds to each Tourney match; they are tournaments, after all. You'll want both players to dashboard every 20-30 minutes, to be safe. If you don't, you may start to run into the problem of having stats not properly record. Also, if you receive the dreaded "Xbox Live Has Encountered An Error" message, you will both have to dashboard as well. These are the perfect type of sessions for watching movies or starting a new series on Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu and just zoning out. It requires very little concentration. Depending on how fast you are, you will hit anywhere from 18-30 games played in a 2 hour session. Slow, but that's Quake 4 for ya. laugh

The Xbox Live errors will occur after every seventh matchup with a party. Individual players searching for a match seems to prevent or delay this. As long as nobody has seen the error, you can keep running matches without worry. Once it DOES happen, you both need to dashboard and relaunch the game.

I'm only at 3,200 matches played at this time, but I can guarantee you that after doing 1,100 for Number One and another 2,000 for this achievement (so far), I have witnessed stat recording issues on literally (the real meaning, not metaphorically) dozens of occasions that don't fit the expected pattern. They do occur, sometimes, without anyone receiving an error. This may be something aside from whatever causes the official errors, such as a less than stellar connection between you and your friend, or it could be as obscure as a hardware issue in your console; I really have no idea why it happens, I just know that it does. The error is definitely notice that your stats will no longer record, but it is not the only way it happens. The game was released right near the 360 launch, so its live code is primitive at best.

The best way to run 1v1 is to get 2 people into the same lobby, controlled by one person. There is no need to have each search individually. Over the past 2,000 matches we have noticed no difference other than time saved, as the game doesn't have to find and connect both people. 30 minutes is not a hard and fast rule, but it seems to be a pretty effective estimate.

pretty slow. i did 47-48 matches per hour. i had two players with 4 boxes each. we started one match. while we were loading the other dummy account started searching. so we were able to connect to this lobby right after the end of the match. if you dont have anyone searching before you might end up in different lobbies. i did the kills while they tried to stand close to each other that we can finish the match after a couple of seconds.

That's fair, but not all of us can drop a grand for an achievement. You should put this up as another full solution as it would be very helpful for those who do have the resources though!

After some experimentation, I've found some more info on the Live errors:

If you search as a party, anyone not the host WILL get a Live error after 7 matchups. This error causes the client to lose connectivity to the host of the party, leaving the host waiting forever for players to join. The client MUST dashboard and relaunch to be able to join matches. The host doesn't have to do anything; they're not affected by the client's error. You only need to dashboard if YOU see the error. If you're in a party of 8, you'll also have to dashboard to break out of the endless "Starting Game" screen.

If you search individually, and no one else joins, you can do quitouts indefinitely. Neither will get a Live error. I've done over sixty matches at a time with no issues.

If you do manage to get 8 people then quickie arena ctf matches can be faster than dm's. 2 captures and "YOU WIN" (or lose, but that doesn't matter). This is good if your teamates have a tendency to get trigger happy.

Just adding to the latter part of Vito084's solution. If you have two xboxes you can indeed quit out the guest however if the guest gets host then you cannot do this because you just lose connection to the game and it won't count. However I discovered some weird work around. When doing this, just make sure the Gamertag of the account you're quitting out is after your main account's gamertag alphabetically.

For example, my Gamertag is XxFrAsZeRxX, so I made my dummy account's gamertag start with a 'Z'.

For whatever reason, doing this ensures your main account (the one earlier in the alphabet) will ALWAYS get host, so your dummy account can quit out every time without any problems. I've ran 766 games so far and never had a game not count.

One additional note: Doing the quit method like this prevents Xbox LIVE errors, so you will never have to dashboard. I ran 129 games in one sitting and never had to dashboard once. So this is by far the best method if you can't get a full group of 8.

EDIT: It appears the way your network is setup dictates whether or not this method works. I'm not sure of the exact settings though. I switched over to a new router part way through the grind and this stopped working 100% of the time (it was more like 75/25 towards the end). I'll do some experimentation to see if I can get it to work.

If you have 4 xboxs there is a trick you can do to get matches done in 2.5 minutes or even as low as 2 minutes. Lets say you have accounts 1,2,3 and 4. And lets say account 1 is the main account that needs the achievement. So what you can do is first search with accounts 1 and 2. Then as soon as the 2 minute timer is up, have accounts 3 and 4 start searching and let that timer go. Then play the match with accounts 1 and 2 while accounts 3 and 4 are in their own lobby. Then when the match end between account 1 and 2, account 1 searches and finds the lobby of account 3 and 4 with probably 30 seconds or less on the timer. Then account 4 backs out and leaves account 3 and 1 in the lobby. Then accounts 2 and 4 make their own lobby and start another 2 minute timer. You can do this trick to reduce the timer down to 30 seconds as oppose to 2 minutes.

Once again, this will take a very long time, but it is possible, Keep playing with friends or anybody, just keep doing Deathmatch Quickies or Tourney Quickies and you can unlock this, just after a very long time.
