How to unlock the Destination: Mire Mare achievement in Rare Replay - Definitive Guide

This game...oh my god this game.

Seriously all I can say is use this link:

http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Knight_Lore

The objective of the game is to gather 14 of the items around the map and put them in the cauldron in a specific order. The item you need to put in the cauldron is determined by going to the cauldron room (as a human, if you are a ware-wolf it will attack you) and wait for a picture of the item to flash on screen.

There are 7 different items and you will need two of each, but from what I have seen based on the map there are way more than 2 of each item on the map, so this is really good for being able to make a strategy to determine what rooms you should visit, because some rooms are much harder than others.

On the way to beating the game and getting this achievement you will also get;
Rare ReplayMelkhior's ApprenticeThe Melkhior's Apprentice achievement in Rare Replay worth 132 pointsKnight Lore: Over time, add every type of ingredient into the cauldron.

It appears that you WILL spawn in one of the locations shown, but it also seems like you will spawn there consistently, so don't keep trying to reset to match up with the video guide. The video serves merely as a reference for specific room help.

What needs to be put in the cauldron is random. So don't rely entirely on the video for what to put in the cauldron first, because it may be very different for you. You can determine what needs to go in the cauldron by going the in the room (as a human, as a ware-wolf you will be attacked) and waiting for the item you need to flash above the cauldron.

Here is a tip I used if you are stuck in any room;
If a jump seems too high, or too far, if you have an item in your inventory. You can place that item below you, then jump and very very quickly pick up your item again so you don't lose the item. It's not extremely hard to pull off, but if you mess up just hold the L button to rewind!!!

Oh, and don't forget to go to the options menu and turn off the time limit and turn on infinite lives!!!

This video helps too:

Dr Scrufflton says:
"That link says the starting points are random, but I can never get it to match up with the one in the video. The one in rare replay always starts at the same location, and its not the same as the one shown"

In response from myself:
"That's strange because, like you said, I as well start in the same place every time, but my girlfriend has been starting in a different place from me, yet has been starting in that same place consistently...perhaps spawn is locked per account. Also, the guide in the link is for the original version of the game. I have noticed that a lot these old games have had very slight changes to them. For example Atic Atac has changed the location of the red and green keys, from the original copies of the game. The guide should still serve as a decent hand holder through the game. It helped me immensely.

Also, about the video, I mostly used that as a way to see how specific rooms are done. If I couldn't figure out a room I'd scan the video until I found the specific room I was working on.

Lastly, like I said, use the video guide as 'per room' help. I would strongly, strongly advise using the map in the link as your main guide."

I really don't get the hate this game is getting on here. This is NOT the worst game of the bunch. Sabre Wulf was much worse IMO. Granted, playing the game with the guide link provided above (top of the solution) makes it a lot easier. But once I understood what I was doing, what was going on and how to do it, I quit enjoyed it! Seeing the item I needed, cross referencing it with the map and planning how to get there was a fun little puzzle, if a bit trivial. The rooms were somewhat interesting puzzles to get through. The variety of objects and enemies have consistent rules but are displayed and utilised in different ways to make each room an interesting challenge. Item jumping is definitely a must needed skill that isn't hard at all. Literally just press Pickup and Jump at the same time. No need to time it one after the other. Just X & A together. It's a little janky, sure. But idk, it's kinda charming. Jumping and moving took a bit to get used to but once I got used to how long to hold jump and learning that jumping from a stand still goes the same distance as a run jump, I had a somewhat easy time. Just wanted to type this as a way to kill time waiting for the 40 Days achievement, lol

Thanks for the wiki link. The game itself wasn't that hard. I actually kind of enjoyed it after a while laugh

Can you hoard items in the wizards' room (or a close-by room) until the cauldron requires it? I'm also guessing you should always keep at least one item on you for navigating certain rooms?

I believe you could do that.

And yes, that is always a good idea. That's what I did

Great advice, thanks mate!
Only thing that threw me was the bit about picking up an item as you jump. For me, I had to pretty much press and hold A and B together to get this to work.

Tell you what... You really become a pro at this game as you go through. Absolutely hated it at first. Some jumps are pixel perfect and a required multiple times in a room. But now I'm starting to enjoy it. My hatred is the constant guy/wolf/guy/wolf... While trying to do those jumps.

I don't believe it's mentioned anywhere here, but you have 40 days to complete the game, keep that in mind, you're on a time limit.

There is a much easier way to do this luckily

The game's RNG seed is controlled based on the time you hit A on the title screen, using this Speedrun video as a guide

Watch the video and listen to the title screen music, Follow the music and hit A on your game at the same time as the video to end up with the same seed allowing you to simply work through the video room by room

You can enable the lives/time cheat without effecting anything if you need it, but following the video you should be safe (as you can always use rewinds)

Years later this is by FAR the best solution to this achievement.

Well, this game is pretty random so I can't write the guide about how to do, write routes...

BUT
I found this website today and it helped me a lot!

http://www.porotal.org/knightlore/

I don't write the guide here because everything is written on the site perfectly. You can track the charms with the help of the perfect table and use the map perfectly. On the bottom you can see the order of the charms. (The first is random but you can track perfectly after the 2nd charm)

Thank you Tero Turtiainen, André Malafaya, Mark Bishop (The creators of that page)
I hope it will help you too! Good Luck!

Breaking Sabreman's lycanthropy curse is the ultimate aim of the game, so this achievement should unlock naturally in the course of your first playthrough of the game. To achieve this goal, Sabreman will need to collect all items twice and drop these into the cauldron in the required order.

The seven items that you can put in the cauldron they are:

  • Boot
  • Bottle
  • Crystal Ball
  • Gem
  • Grail
  • Poison
  • Tea Cup

For reference, here's an overview diagram of the castle:

This map should be read in conjunction with the following table:

The green exclamation mark icons show Sabreman's four possible starting locations; the letters A-H mark the starting location of items in the castle. Due to randomization between playthroughs, the first thing that you'll need to do is to reach any one of these item locations and observe which item is found here. Now, find the column from this table in which the observed item appears against the letter of the location in which you found it. You can now read down this column to indicate which item will be found at each of the other marked locations. Note that there while there are eight different categorization of item location, there are only seven items required in the cauldron; the eighth location will instead have an extra life.

Now, once you've determined the item distribution, you'll need to travel to the central room, marked with a yellow exclamation mark (you may as well take whichever item(s) you've found on the way with you); here, observe which item is required first in the cauldron. Knowing this, you'll now need to refer to the following chart, which shows the cycle in which items will be required. Once the first two required items are known (with the second revealed after collecting and returning the first), you'll then know exactly which point in the cycle the item requests lie - and this order is always the same between games, with just the starting point on the cycle varying.

To complete the game, you'll need to complete one full loop through this cycle, collecting all items exactly twice.

Full credit for this overview map and the two charts to StrategyWiki, from which these are drawn.

I would like to highlight a couple of things about the game's mechanics that may not be immediately obvious. First, passing many of the game's obstacles will require you to jump from a raised height, which often is only possible by dropping an item and then jumping onto it, to use it as the starting point for a further jump - so as a rule of thumb, I suggest trying always to carry at least one item with you (the castle contains one spare of each type of item). In conjunction with this, be aware that with good timing, when standing on an item, with good timing you can jump from it and then pick it up again to take it with you, allowing easier progress past subsequent obstacles.

In addition, here is a full map, showing the details of each room:
