How to unlock the Master achievement in Record of Agarest War - Definitive Guide

This is the most time consuming achievement in the game, it is not uncommon to have completed every other achievement and not have a single attribute mastered. You can leave your controller auto battling in a quest area or use a turbo controller to fight easier battles on the boundary plane over and over but this takes upwards of 70-80 hours to master all attributes. Instead understanding the system and performing a few specific moves will save you a lot of time.

To master Fire, Water, Thunder, Earth, Light, Extra and Wind you will need a low level character you have never used (personally I used a level 4 Fyuria). Counter intuitively you gain more attribute experience from casting magic on lower level characters than a higher level one. Simply load your characters with the highest levels in these attributes with skills like status up (extra), Power Up (fire) heal (light) etc. and remove all their other attacks (less time spent scrolling though attacks) The low level elemental weapons will help greatly in this as they have three elemental slots. It is likely Rex or Dyshana (or the other 5th gen characters) will have the highest stats for this but they raise so fast you can use others (for example I used Leonhart for Fire who started on Level 4). Simply go to a low level fight, kill all but one enemy and constantly cast the skills on your low level character, within a couple of hours you will have maxed all these attributes.

The final five attributes are more problematic, they have no status boosting skills and raise faster when used on higher level characters. To cap these you will be facing Chaos Dyshana or Chaos in the extended boundary plane on hard and using them to boost the attributes. (They are the highest level enemies in the game at 999). Defeat the additional bosses and then use the normal boss tactics of leaving a sacrifice and resurrecting him/her. Instead of unleashing a full Ex3 assault simply use the required skills over and over again, move back into position the next move phase, take your one character being KOed by the boss, heal them and repeat. For this I used Rex loaded out with 3-5 General, Power or Rush attacks respectively alongside Dyshana using Dark and Duran using Special attacks (2 each). In 25 turns of hitting Chaos 4-8 times per turn (based on AP and whether or not Rex's genius skill was in effect) a skill will move around 0.5 points at level 9. Thus you can level up a attribute from level 8-10 in around 4 battles (4-5 hours) if solely using it, levelling up 2 or 3 attributes per battles naturally speeds this up. Though this is still a long grind of between 10-20 hours it is much shorter than the 70-80 it takes to auto battle (you also need to be there for auto battles for when a level up occurs or you hit 99 items).

Just to be clear, as I'll be attempting this in the following weeks, does this achievement only require that each individual attribute was mastered, just once, even across multiple characters? Or does a single character have to raise all their attributes to level 10?

1.) Would I unlock the achievement if I mastered the first half of attributes with Leonhardt, and the second half was mastered by Fyuria?

2.) Would I unlock the achievement if Leonhardt mastered every attribute himself?

3.) Would I unlock the achievement if I used 12 characters, and each of those characters mastered a single, separate attribute each?

Sorry for drawing it out, I just wanna be clear on the requirements, this being the most time consuming achievement in the game and all.

Yes to all of those, you just need them mastered mastered on one save file, the number or combination of characters doesn't matter. I had them mastered across 3-4 characters IIRC.

Does the skill being used have any effect on the "experience" gained towards mastering that affinity? ie, Power Up and Power Up+ could both be used to raise Fire. Power Up is cheaper and therefore could be cast more times in a round, but does Power Up+ yield more progress on the mastery bar making its fewer castings more valuable?

I did not test it very thouroughly but from my experience it was better to cast 1 spell per person using the absolute cheapest spell you can get ... when I say one per person it didnt seem as though casting power up twice using the same character yielded better results... so IMO cast it pick it once then acutally cast it then ick it again and cast again...

to save a lil more time as well go to the first generation and capture a level 2 bee/hornet to get it on your team , this will rank up stats like fire, water, earth, wind and light insanely fast.

If you don't have any sufficiently low-level characters (I always level my characters evenly, so the "low" levels were ~20), you can go to the Hamas Animal Trail and capture a Hornet. It'll be level 2, the lowest level you can get. It's been working pretty well for me so far (maxed Light, Water, and Extra, close on Fire and Thunder).

One more thing to add that ive noticed, is I've been grinding with a lvl 600+ rex and a level ~120 dyshana casting buffs on a level 5 zerva and rex has gone from 7-9 in fire and dysahna has gone from 8.5 to 9 in the same time, each having the same amount of casts per turn. So apparently the DIFFERENCE in level is the big thing, im too close to being done to test again with a higher level dyshana on the same attribute, but if you want to get it done really quickly get the people you're going to use to really high levels before you start grinding the buffs. Conversely, i would expect a lvl 1 character attacking lvl 999 chaos dyshana woud gain a great amount of attribute experience, i did not test that though.

Okay I am confused because of the wording. Who is mastering the element? Is it the character who the spell is cast on or the one casting it? Are you saying I take my characters with high levels in an attribute and cast them on the weak character, and then the character who cast it masters it, or are you saying the weak character on which its cast masters it.

^^^SHORT ANSWER-Whoever casts it gets the experience.

For the skills of Fire,Water,Earth,Wind and Light if Leo casts it on a lvl 2 bee as a stat buff Leo will get the skill points and rank up super fast since the the bee is such a low level. The other skills are more difficult because you can not buff an ally with those such as dark so in the case of an offensive spell you want the enemy to be as high level as possible which is why you want the end game bosses for those skills.

most of this just sounds like theory.. if you don't mind cheating a bit just put the battle on auto, go into an exploration zone, equip the skill types you want to master and lay the controller so the stick makes you run into the wall. that's what i did, it took awhile but they all eventually got mastered.

An attribute is mastered when there's a * by it, correct? I ask because I started fifth gen with my Rex having a * in General, but that first achievement didn't pop.

Figured out how/why the first attribute mastery achievement didn't pop for my Rex. Apparently, you need to do a battle for it to register as mastered. It popped after the first combat in 5th Gen for me.

Just a personal preference for me, but I find it easier to battle Chaos than Chaos Dyshana. His 6-square radius Eternal Domination EX3 attack is centered on himself, but C-Dyshana's 6-square Catastrophe EX3 attack is centered on her target. It's impossible to survive an enemy EX3 attack, even with maxed health, defense, and magic defense, so if it hits more than one person, you're screwed.

Also, Ellis' ability to target practically anywhere on the field makes rezzing your characters less of a hassle. If you let your characters slip out of formation and let Chaos or C-Dyshana move from their original spot, you're pretty much effed.

I used a turbo controller to level up the final five attributes. I realize that it took more hours than doing it manually would have - but I was able to leave my xbox on overnight for a few nights without the mind-numbing grinding involved. Basically let it autobattle on a Boundary Plane battle (one of the higher that I felt comfortable leaving my characters to do without dying). I equipped the characters leveling the attributes with only skills pertaining to that particular attribute and let them go at it and (made sure to have a healer in the group for safety).

I'm finding this very confusing.

I've got a couple of characters with good levels across all attributes (Beatrice, Rex, Dyshana). Could I stick on weapons with varied types, attach all the skill ups I can and leave them as a party of two or three?

Which weapons are best to use?

excellent information gained here , just to add some characters have "affinity" for certain skills , such as leo is great at leveling up the general skill. This affinity for certain skills is touched on in the book , but I believe it can be seen by looking at the skill slots the character has themselves ( not the weapon skills) such as Leo having 2 general slots and two power slots so these are ideal for him. Beyond that I think you get an even bigger bonus by hitting baddies with your EX Skills , Leo has 3 General EX Skills. Be careful though because the opposite is also true , some characters are HORRIBLE at gaining certain skills so it is best to keep track a little to make sure the skill bar isn't stuck for someone. My ladius is terrible at gaining Dark skill for instance.

Final thing to add which may save you some time is you can make a Crystal Dragon or Arc dragon and both start with all lvl 9 Skill slots.

After 3 days of constant grinding, I've found it to appear that using a higher level skill (i.e. Power Up+ or Dark Ray instead of Black Mist for the Dark attribute) yields more experience toward the necessary levels. This is also affected by the character's affinity for said attribute. Also you shouldn't spend more than about 30 turns in a single battle working on any Dark, General, Power, Combo, or Special attribute. I spent 65 turns farming lv 999 Mercury in the Boundary Plane with Rex using Dark Ray and I only went up 0.5 of a level on attribute level 9. I had 0.25 left to go, did a 20 turn battle on the same boss, and I finished out the stat.

It is to be noted, however, that it also seems that the more damage you do with the specific attribute (Dark, General, Power, Combo, and Special) the more experience you gain again. Exceptions include not actually hitting with the specific attack. I used Ellis to max out the Special attribute using the same method as above. Her Hit stat was too low to actually land a hit on the boss; however, she still gained ample experience. And I have also confirmed that you do gain the same amount of experience by using multiple uses of a skill in one casting (i.e. having Ellis hit the boss with 4 Trick Hits in one casting).

Hope this helps!

This is a rather easy one once you get the hang of what the game uses for its calculation.

The truly easiest way to accomplish this is to spread it to all your party.

There is a total of 12 attributes to master. and you can have a party of 6 people. so using one person to master 2-3 of these will maximize your ability to accomplish this.

First off you need to know that different characters will gain different attribute experience. best way to understand this is there skill slots (non weapon) to decide on how they will increase. Best rule of thumb, the more slots for that attribute, the faster it will increase for that character. Using a party with the skill slots of 2 for each is ideal, but most likely you will not be able to accomplish that. (example being lightning for my party)

after you have decided on what party you will use, simply make sure that they use there respected skills, best to acquire this achievement when you plan on beating the boundary plain.

Best Char's for each stat:(non-hero)
General:*
Power:*
Combo:*
Special:*
Fire: Luana
Water: Yayoi, Plum, Reverie
Thunder:
Wind: Silvi
Earth: Sherufanir, Arbol, Plum
Dark:Zerva,
Holy: Ellis, Faina, Ryuryu
Extra: Vira-Lorr, Dyshana

* : Too many to list, since these are mostly the first two on every character, and yes even mages can level up there special attribute very fast.

Of course you could bread your hero any way you want, so he could fill the gaps you make based on your party selection. my party was...

Rex (bread for wind *Battlemage* with general starting at 9 and wind at 7)
Dyshana (for extra, and Dark, and Power *the use of ES attacks help with level ups as well*)
Ellis (Full Holy *Earth Nova is great for holy attribute*)
Plum (Water and Earth *great with Rog.3 equiped with +1 for each)
Luana (Fire *Mainly used her for stealing but realized she got another fire slot when I classed)
Beatrice (for Combo, Special, and Lightning *first ES is lighting*)

With that party I covered EVERY attribute, so the need of going back to level up one was nonexistent. I was able to get every attribute to 8+ and have not even passed lvl 300 in the boundary plain.

Also you can leach attribute exp with combo arts. Just an FYI, but some characters can not earn ANY attribute exp. Like Ellis cannot earn ANY Dark.

-Tip for skill equipment-
Best to do on a new game plus, but have your mages only equip magic, and fighters only equip Weapon skills (every attribute has physical attacks like *Ice Vein*) That way you will never have to increase Str for your mages EVER.

FYI:
Attribute exp is gained based on AP used, effected by level gap (attribute level, monster level, and your level), and finally effected by hit amount (must land for exp gain). After that gets calculated it gets multiplied by the character gain ratio (like I said above, pick a character that has a high gain ratio, and not one that has a 0)
*edit*
After much testing I found that you get faster exp for your attributes for a higher level char. so, it doesn't matter what the monster level is, since each monster gives a set amount of base attribute exp. The higher level, and status (such as boss) yield higher base exp. Still not sure if exp is no longer added if you attack after overkill, or if it stops after break, but one of those DOES happen. (hence a char I used last in all battle got 0 exp)

Also pure combos are best for level up (Crimson Edge + Fireball + Fire = Explosion) for a fire pure combo
