How to unlock the That took forever achievement in Samurai vs Zombies Defense - Definitive Guide

This achievement is complete and pure evil. I'm going to post my methods here and as others make progress we can hopefully come up with the optimal solution. It's assumed that you have already completed one run through the game!

The most important thing you need to know is how to get gems.
Method 1:
You'll get a bonus wave every 5 waves you complete, which, if you complete successfully will give you a free item. This has a chance to give you 5-15 gems.
Method 2:
Gems also drop occasionally. There is a charm you can use to make enemies drop more items, which seems to increase the number of gems they drop as well. With that charm, I was getting 2-5 gems per wave (Grind wave 29/39/49 for the most gems)
Method 3:
Pachinko sometimes gives you gems. Do NOT count on this, but it's a nice bonus. I only used this when it was really desperate and close to an upgrade. It seemed like you have a very small (think tenths of a percent) chance of getting gems each time you get a jackpot.

The next thing to know is what to upgrade:
The only unit you'll need to upgrade is the farmer. You may also upgrade frosty the bowman, but don't use gems on him! The reason for this is that by end game you'll be using your units solely to keep enemies occupied while your skills recharge. Your units have limited health and damage, while your enemies health and damage will continue to rise each wave.
For skills, you'll want to upgrade troop trample. Spend all of your gems upgrading this skill. Every once in a while you may upgrade tornado, as it's the only other skill you'll need really. Troop trample gives you the best damage for your gems and can be upgraded infinitely. Most of your other skills have a maximum level which limits their usefulness. Health, bow damage, and sword damage are not very useful. They only increase by a small amount each level, and you'll be doing minimal damage to your enemies even after spending hundreds of gems!

Finally, strategy
You'll want to use troop trample and tornado as your skills. Each wave consists of your spamming farmers while using your bow to do small amounts of damage to enemies as they pile up against your farmers. You'll want to use troop trample every chance you get. If a wave has flying enemies, try to focus tornado on them, otherwise use it any chance you get as well. Early on, your farmers will be able to take care of most everything except the flying enemies, but near the end you'll be relying on troop trample to break through those really tough enemies.

Many times you'll find your farmers struggling as clerics continually heal the enemies front line. I found the best way to deal with this was to run through the front enemies and use a tornado to wipe out the clerics.

Last, don't be afraid to use revives. I was constantly farming to buy more revives. Some waves are simply too difficult to do without upgrading your skills to insane levels. Reviving one, two, even three or four times is sometimes necessary to pass a level. I found myself stuck especially on wave 49 many times.

If anyone feels like I have missed something or has specific questions, feel free to ask.

Good overview and thanks for the information, but can you give us an idea of the levels for your troop trample, tornado, bow, sword, and/or anything else? Like you, I am getting to the point where my minions do nothing but slow down the bad guys, it is pathetic how quickly whole groups of them die.

I wasted a lot of gems upgrading various skills to test their usefulness as there wasn't a lot of info on the best builds out at the time.

I had my hp, sword, and bow all in their 20's, but stopped after I realized how little they were helping me. By the end, My troop trample was over level 100. My tornado was close, but not quite as high. I really focused on upgrading troop trample. It's not only cheaper but it seems better suited to winning.

You'll need 2000 Gems or so just to upgrade troop trample to the level I have it. Add in tornado, and you'll soon see that you'll need another 1000 gems or more even! That's why I listed how I got gems in my guide.

I didn't start using revives until the end, so perhaps there is some room for improvement by using gems towards revives instead of upgrades, but I can't be sure.

Besides those skills, most things are leveled pretty low because of the terrible return. For 20 gems in troop trample I can get thousands of damage, or I could put those gems into something like sword/bow and get out only 10-20 damage!

Just to add, I found the same thing and spend a lot of time simply trying to hold the line. Keep the enemies from advancing while using troop trample to take down the strongest ones. Even at the most difficult levels, your farmers can take some pot shots on the weaker enemies, so it's the spiders, red ogre things, wheels, and flying enemies that you need to worry about.

Yes, I hate those damn goth-spiders or whatever they are called. Dang, they kill a whole row of my minions with one spinning attack - damn them!

Anyway, thanks for the information. I really appreciate it. I am only at 15 for all the waves, so I still have a LONG way to go.

I wish there were an easier way. All I can tell you is to keep pushing and don't play any waves you don't need to. You're going to hate this game before you're done! Make sure you've maxed your farmers and remember to stand back. Your bow is a bit weaker, but the enemies are far too strong to take head on.

Thanks for the tips... If I ever get crazy enough to attempt this this is what I will do. Can you let us know, if you had to guess, how long total did this take you? Are we talking 15 hours? 30 hours? Any insight would be great!

Indeed, Troop Trample makes a difference. Before, I thought a Lethargy is a must. Just make sure to upgrade your Leadership skills to level 3 so it will be easier to spam farmers and delay the enemies.

I actually got to level 7 before, but had to reformat my PC. A few days later, an update came with the cloud storage. But I'm glad I got to restart and change strategies. What I noticed though it the update is more stingy when it comes to giving gems. Especially those bonus levels, only once did I get 5 gems. Before, I can get around 15-20 gems per level.

A suggestion for Wave 50. If you are left with only the boss (read: 98%), switch from farmers to assassins. At least they can damage the boss before dying.

Those are all good points. I'll admit I purposely avoided updating this game while I was finishing in case they did something like that with gems...

I'm having a hard time getting gems. Coins are useless now since all upgrades require gems. The piccono game hasn't given me gems yet either. I get a couple once in awhile, but not often enough to upgrade anything.

Yeah, I've gotten a few messages from people that gems are much harder to get now. I'm not sure what to recommend now to get them quickly. You may want to try using the purple wealth charm on wave 49 and see if you get lucky.

I tried using Trample + Tornado, but I found that the enemies were getting much closer to my gate than when I used Trample + Lethargy. Tornado has its advantages, but it just wasn't enough to overcome the enemies' overall faster speed for me.
What I do is, when I notice that there are healers or the music player, I wait until they get in their standard formation (melee/flyers up front, archers in the middle, healers/musicians in the back), wait until Lethargy recharges, hit it, and run through the pack and insert myself right in front of the healers. I can usually do this without getting so much as a scratch. As I hit the healers, they will occupy themselves with healing themselves instead of everyone else. That way, my farmers' attacks will weaken the front line enough that my next Trample will take a few out.
That's managed to get me to round 6 on the higher levels; round 7 is kicking my butt so far, probably because I can't upgrade my skills any more for lack of gems. (I've launched at least 10,000 pachinko balls and only got gems once. Up until today, I didn't know it was even possible to get a gem card after a bonus level, since I had never gotten one before. Trample and Lethargy are only at level 5; my own bow & sword are only as leveled up as you can get without using gems.)

My suggestion for wave 50: spam Farmers, Lethargy & Trample as usual until only the boss remains. Then, when you're down to the boss, wait until Lethargy is nearly recharged. Pause your Farmer spamming just enough to earn 10 points, and spawn one 10-point minion (Smithy, Archer, or Gunsmith), and immediately go back to spamming Farmers. When you see the gap in your Farmer line, wait for the last Farmer to get cut down by the boss, and then immediately cast Lethargy. That will slow the boss down just long enough for the next Farmer to get close enough to keep the boss from stepping forward before his next attack, and the Smithy/Archer/Gunsmith will stop just out of the boss's range. (At least, it works for me, with Lethargy up to level 5.)
Repeat every time Lethargy recharges, and eventually you'll have a small army of Riflemen shooting down the boss, and what Farmers do make it to the boss will be attacking with bigger swords.

Good points for the early levels, but once you're into the higher levels you really require high amounts of damage more so than speed reduction, that's why I really push tornado. There will come a point where your farmers do so little damage that there is not noticeable affect on enemy hp. If you can keep upgrading troop trample it will eventually be able to tear through a number of their units, even at the highest levels. It seems the real challenge now is getting the gems to upgrade your troop trample and tornado...

Well, the speed reduction effectively reduces the cooldown on Troop Trample. I'm looking to get Lethargy to last 20 or 21 seconds (cooldown is 20 sec) so it can always be on. If stuff barely moves at all it doesn't matter how little damage the troops deal, they get killed much less frequently and thus will hold the enemy much longer as well as deal a load more damage. Not sure how much Lethargy slows down time for the enemies but it's at least a factor of 2 (I think it's even more than that). That would mean that the effective damage of Troop Trample is doubled. That's not considering the slowing effect of your troops constantly attacking the baddies.

Also I found that using the purple card for more drops is only really worth it in levels 46-49. 29 is over in a breeze and 39 doesn't last all that long either.

I'll save you some gems. Lethargy maxes out way before it gets to that point. So it will never be always on. Even when it's at max you'll eventually get to a point where the technique you mentioned no longer works. I know because I was originally of the same mindset. If you really want to try that route then go ahead, and please post back with your results / added tips.

Ok, I was worried about that. Still, the next upgrade is 15 seconds and that means it's on three quarters of the time. Still very nice and a huge (and scaling) boost to Troop Trample's damage. I'll continue on and see how far it goes, should have the next upgrade soon.

Update: Level 10 of Lethargy, which gives 15 seconds of slowed down enemies, is the last level. Nevertheless I can now keep all mobs in near stasis most of the time, which allows me to collect items and build up a huge army of riflemen/Frosty while constantly spamming upgraded farmers to keep stuff back. Works until 3 or more spider witches show up but then I can start again without trouble. I don't need to use revives and can no spend all my gems on Troop Trample.
Actually I'm considering upgrading leadership first, which would make the initial upgrade vs. defense struggle easier.
Will update as I run into trouble with this strategy, I'm still fairly low on repetition.

Not to dismiss everyone that is only 10-20% through the game, but those strategies just don't work. I'm about 60% through the game. I'm especially having trouble on the levels with the bombs that run past everything and kill your base. I could definitely use some advice on those levels. Also, does the farmer strategy work well on the higher levels of 40-50, because that's where I'm having the most difficulty. What would you suggest for level 50? I'm not sure what level 50 looked like before, but now any time you are even a full screen away from the boss he can hit you down to 0% health in a single strike. My troop trample is at 143 and cyclone is at 124. I have tons of charms but I'm not sure which are best to use on the highest levels (besides the peace charm of course).

Yes, I agree with Panda. I am at about level 50 with my waves and everything is useless except for Troop Trample. I really hate how your soldiers do not ramp up like the enemies. Even your 'unique' soldiers (that you can only have one of at a time: Nobunaga and Takeda Shingen) die instantly. The levels get really hard very quickly.

There are a couple of strategies that I have found that do work. If you have some Sushi Plates (these are the ones that fully heal you AND your allies), then when you get to the really hard waves 48, 49 and 50 - though like Panda, I think 49 is the hardest, 50 seems easier compared to 49. Then use one of your Friendly charms (I like the Friendship Spearman Charm). These giants can do a lot of damage and when they get low on health use your Sushi Plate and it will fully heal them. It is not a great strategy, but I like to use it on Level 50 and it can keep the enemies from advancing for a while. If they are not advancing then that means you can get more Troop Tramples in before they overrun your gate.

Like cccuaresma1 said, if you only have the giant boss left on level 50 (98% complete). You can spam assassins and he will never take a step forward. Because when he kills one or two of them, buy the time he recovers from his swing there will be another assassin in range, so he will swing again and not take a step forward. Once you reach this point, then you can hold him forever and let your Troop Trample whittle him down until he is dead.

Also, those that are only at level 10 or so for the waves. Just to give you an idea of how difficult it can get is that the little purple balloon enemies become major pains at level 50 (or earlier). They run past everyone, but now they have enough health that your allies cannot kill them until they reach your gate and your fully maxed gate will fall in 3 or 4 hits from them - damn quickly. So I constantly find myself chasing them back and killing them myself before they reach the gate, and my allies are trying to hold the line. Same is true for the baby spiders that spawn when the mom dies. It is horrible. I am constantly spamming allies so there is a whole line of them coming from the rear to the front line and everyone of them takes a shot at the baby spider or purple balloon and they keep running to your gate and destroy it very quickly.

I did level up my self and found that I can take more damage - duh! But this does help a little at times. I still think your best investment is Troop Trample and Tornado. I high level tornado works great on the flyers.

It does suck that gems are so rare. Glu must have changed that to force us to spend real money to get them. I have so much coin and pachinko balls- I just wish we could trade them in for gems.

I give up. I've come to the mid 20s, playing most of the game after the update. By now I find that mobs increasein health much more than my troop trample can, even though I invest ALL the gems I find into it. Troop trample can barely kill a wooden shield now but only takes about 3/4 of the health of Spider Witches. After that the healers just heal the thing back to full health within seconds.

Splitting my gems between Troop Trample and Tornado can only make things worse as the small damage from Tornado is easily healed back up before the even weaker Troop Trample can hit. @panda I guess you always had enough gems to keep your troop trample high enough to kill a Spider Witch at full health, and then some to spare on Tornado. Little mobs have become a problem as well, although I can still mitigate those with Lethargy.

Anyway, I often find myself in stalemates now. Even if I face only 1-2 Spider Witches I cannot damage them fast enough to kill them before they are healed up by the healers I can't kill. If maxed out Troop Trample cannot kill a Spider Witch the only option I have is to build up an army of riflemen and attack the healers myself, so some of their healing is used on themselves. But the amount of riflemen required will go up exponentially as the enemies' health increases and attacking the healers will become even less effective as I do little to no damage to them. Also summoning a bowmen instead of a farmer is dangerous as it might allow the Spider to advance a little, ultimately wiping the army.

So even those "easy to handle" situations will get out of hand. It all comes down to the lack of Gems. I find an average of maybe 13-15 gems per 50 levels, including optimized Pachinko play (only got gems out of that twice anyway) and Bonus Round rolls. That's not enough to upgrade Troop Trample even once and I would probably have to upgrade it twice or thrice to keep up with the increasing health on mobs. Then there are those situations in which Spider Witches come with wooden shields or flyers or even a single walking demon. And the quicker movement and attack animation of those other mobs is enough to make the zombies advance through my lines in a single Lethargy Cycle, which wouldn't be too bad if I can do anything about them with Troop Trample.

I could probably get myself a few more gems by finishing the Zombie campaign (don't know if that even awards gems) but that would only buy me a short reprieve as the increase in my damage would still lose to their increase in health. I have the feeling that that entire Zombie campaign has only been added to make things even harder. You only get half the amount of useful items from Pachinko now because there's a 50% chance that you will get the Zombie version of that much required revive, luck or wealth charm. :/

Speaking of charms: Yes, using giant friend charms can help in the beginning of a round and you can keep them healed using Sushi Plate but that would be an entirely different tactic as you couldn't use Luck Charm on the later levels anymore, even further reducing the amount of gems gathered. And I doubt that you can keep the summoning and healing up in the higher levels, you'll either run out of charms/Sushi Plates or the Giants will just also die in few hits.

So ultimately I deem this achievement to be unobtainable in the current state of the game without entering the never ending spiral of buying gems for real money. And I very much doubt that that will ever change. That (G)reedy (L)ying (U)lcer company only updates games when they become too easy to finish without buying a huge amount of their premium currency. Other issues, even gamebreaking ones, are never resolved, even though they will always respond that they are working closely with Microsoft blabla.

I have played all the "free" titles I could find on WP and W8 and ALL GLU games were extremely bugridden and/or outright unfair:

So I challenge the developers to get that achievement with a fresh install and the current version of the game using only the resources provided ingame. I doubt they can do it. Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't seem to have much of a quality control for their Xbox Live titles on Windows Phone and Windows 8. Such a quality control should exclude games like this, well ALL games from GLU really, from the store or at least Xbox Live. I doubt that they would even attempt that grind as they likely didn't invest that many manhours into developing the game to start with.

Honestly, I don't think that charms help a huge amount. I used the peace charms when I had trouble and they seemed to help a bit but I'm not sure on the specifics of how much they affect the enemies.

I continued to use the farmer strategy until I completed the game, but after a while they really only become a means to hold back the enemy while your troop trample charges. If I were you, I'd leave my cyclone alone and focus solely on my troop trample in order to pump the damage up as high as possible.

In my playtime, it felt like 49 was MUCH harder than 50. The final boss' health doesn't scale as much as the rest of the enemies because by the end my troop trample could kill him in in just a few hits. Besides the boss, you'll only have a few enemies compared to few levels before it. Those are the levels where I was basically forced to use revives to continue at points.

Like I've said before... They seem to have really dropped the rate of gem drops. When I played, I was getting 1-2 per level and 3-4 per level with the wealth charm. Honestly I'm not sure I would even recommend playing the game in it's current state. The difficulty has gone from God awful grind to nigh impossible without cash.
It's sad to see the developers purposely make it even harder to progress in the game.

To answer a few of your questions:
Zombie campaign does NOT award gems for completion. The enemies were fairly cool, but not worth playing the game more than you have to.
My troop trample was always high enough to kill any one enemy, and for weaker enemies it could wipe out the line. If you can't keep it upgraded, you won't be successful
Almost all of my gems came from in game drops and the free spin after bonus missions.

Great, thanks for still sticking around. :)
So now out of frustration I decided to finish at least 1-99 and found that you could repeat 1-99 afterwards, giving you a bonus level with roll every 5 playthroughs (standing at the gate and summoning troop trample after 45 seconds ;)).
So I guess technically it's still possible to get enough gems, it only requires even more grinding and farming. :/
In average I get the 5 gems card one out of five rolls I believe, so that's 1 gem per 5 levels played, 1 gem per 10 Minutes (including bonus round plus the time to set up the games), 6 gems per hour, 4 hours for the additional about 24 gems required to stay up to par with the spider witches' health per 50 levels ... Now you said you needed about 4 hours per 50 levels in the end, so I guess it can now be done in 600 hours conservatively speaking. :P Also assuming that upgrading Troop Trample twice per round is enough.

That estimate of 4 hours doesn't count breaks or idling between menus and whatnot, so the realistic value is probably even higher. It's definitely the longest/hardest grind I've done for an achievement so far. If you get bored, the first 5 or so levels are very easy to beat even at 99, so feel free to switch it up and keep it fresh!

My beginner levels are all around 70ish and later ones are at about 40-50.
I've switched to lethargy and troop trample along with the ninja women. The women cost the same as the farmers, spawn as quickly and travel a lot faster. I seem to complete the levels more quickly with this setup.

Well, we will see how far I get with all this but I have 1-10 at 99, 11-20 all over 80 and the rest are all at about 20 to 25. I started this all after the gem killing update which has left me going very, very slow.

I too started with Lethargy and Trample, spamming framers and Frosty here and there to help slow down. So far this is going ok but it looks like I will have to switch at some point to the Tornado, not really looking forward to that.

I've spent almost everything I've earned on Trample however I'm only in the high 20's, which after reading this made my heart sank. I've found grinding on the lower bonus levels to almost be the best source of gems as you get the free item.

I've found however that the clever placement of the Free button being right on top of the 15 Gem button to be something to watch out for. The gem upgrades need 20 gems however when you click on the Free button if you don't watch once you run out of stacked Free spins it will go to a 15 Gem premium spin which doesn't confirm so you will lose your progress to your upgrade purchase if you are not careful.

I'm not sure if I'm far enough along to offer may tips but I've already found that Trample is a must, upgrade it as much as you can, spam it as soon as it comes up and keep an eye on it.

As for the time estimate, I don't think we can account for how long it will actually take. I've already spent months, playing on and off, and I've only completed the first half with the hardest still to come. One nice thing, if you consider being obsessed a positive, is that I have it on my desktop, laptop and on my Surface for when I am on the go. The only way I can see this being possible now is if you take months of grinding, something I thought I was willing to do at the start; we will see once I hit a wall, needing to upgrade my Trample another 80 levels (1600 gems or 320 gem wins on the bonus levels).

I'm actually further along than I though when I wrote the above post, and last night I thought of a few other things to mention.

I've been grinding 5 to 10 levels at a time, skipping any that give me issues until I can upgrade Trample to a point where I can come back to the level to finish it off. As other mention the minions quickly become too much to handle and I just see no reason to spend effort on the higher/harder levels until I'm leveled up.

One other thing, at least while I'm using Lethargy and Trample, I complete almost every level sitting right under the gate. I do so little damage and have such little health it just isn't worth getting in to the main battles. This also helps grinding as I can get set up and essentially just hit 1, 2, 3, e and w endlessly without looking.

I will see if i manage aswell, but a gem drop of 1 every 5th level is low. or every 15th if you don't count the free bonus card drops.

Another random strategy for you crazies still trying to grind through this game...

I've started stockpiling revives and using my death as on offensive weapon. If Trample & Tornado are on cool down, I run into a big group of enemies, die, revive, and take out the majority of them with the aoe damage.

I'm not sure if the "revive damage" is static or if it scales to player health or a specific skill, but it pretty much takes out everything on the screen minus spinners and spiders... even on end-game levels.

you need to change your guide slightly, the free card is only giving out common cards, so it's not the same as the one you can buy for 15 gems. so it's either 5 gems or some other junk. winning in the Pachinko slot machine also grant 5 gems, but it's extremly rare.

So far I Agree that troop tramply is worth it up to level 4. level 5 and 6 however only grant a lousy 650 damage extra and still cost 20 gems so other power are cheaper on the damage per time unit.

Farmers are your best alla round allies, and tornado is best on level with flying enemies but i prefer lethargy on the rest. it reduce the chance that a bomb slips by.

I am stockpiling charms, revives and food for the hard levels. I have no problem so far but I am sure i will the enemies do get stronger faster then I gain strength.

I'm wrong in my math of how often I get gems, not sure where, but I'm way off. It will take much more than the 8.75 days I was getting. If someone can point out where I am wrong let me know, but that is way under estimated.

Another tip, play without network connectivity. It may just be a placebo effect but it seems faster when the round ends if you are not logged in to live. I've been playing almost this whole time on a single device. At the start I was jumping around on devices but have since switched to a laptop and just turned off the wireless.

I see someone else got this achievement completed the other day. Call me a skeptic but based on the short time frame this account finished the game I am guessing they bought all the gems with $$ from a very early start of the game.

I only wish you would have been playing earlier, when the gems were much more plentiful. Keep at it and let us know what your final numbers end up being for your strategy. It seems like you're slowly coming into the same strategy I used.

I haven't reinstalled this since I finished, but with the levels you're talking about it makes me wonder if they've done something to make the enemies stronger or something. It just seems with the TT level you have I was coasting through *most* of the higher levels. It was a few specific levels (49 still haunts me) that forced me to continually use revives to finally hammer out victories.

Keep up the good fight.

Right, I'm quite confused with this, I've just completed my first lot of 50 waves, obviously getting as much of the as possible to lvl 4. If that's the highest they can go in the first time round. Now I'm on to round 51, is that right? Or is that just the equivalent of lvl 1, but much harder.. Could someone explain how it works, to getting to lvl 99 on all waves?

I have resume this goal after a 3 month break, I have now finished the first 5 level to 99. the remaining is usually in the range 24-34, with the exception of level 50 that I only boosted to lv 14 so far. Mostly because of time reason it takes close to 20 min to finish that level now. I have changed priority a bit I need to get my troops up higher so not all levels will require a giant panzar and plenty of sushi plates. My TT skill is still at puny lv 13 and won't kill much anymore.

Nobunaga Lv 10 Stats 20800 HP, Attack 93, cost up to 40 Gems/Level. For others that want to determine if they think he is worth all the gems. To be honest he will speed up bonus levels and the lower levels of grinding but so would TT. but he won't be much of a help against strong troops, he is simply to expensive. more like a emergence tea spam solution to avoid loosing.

For the love of jesus and his Spanish brother jesus, don't bother with upgrading any troops besides the farmers. At the higher the levels, they do almost nil and pretty much just die.

If you got money to spare for this game, revive spamming is almost the way to go. (outside of a really strong Troop Trample).

If you're doing it the free route, just realize the time it takes to get a few gems in this game, you could have been working irl and making hundreds of dollars.. that you could then throw on this game. Yeah the gem drop rate is horrible and Troop Trample caps out at 650 dmg per 20 gems x indefinitely.

Not saying I paid a whole lot for this game but playing this game completely free all the way isn't entirely the wisest choice.

That took forever is an understatement.

Don't underrestimate small numbers, troops will without doubt help you when doing the Giant panzer push through the levels. and compare to hundreds of level of TT, getting those specific troops to 10 is cheap. and aslong as they are protected behind the giant the damage will keep building up, making the need of high TT far less urgent. However I am the kind of guy that need to test things myself. so yeah I am going to waste Gems. besides the store is broken, so you can only do it the hard way or not at all.

Status 12 waves maxed, atleast level 21 on the rest. I have maxed out the Assassin troop and they are without doubt worth it.Gem cost up to 30 Gems/Level. 719 HP 220 in Attack, same as the famer IRCC. The main reason is the blue bombs. They stop bombs far more efficent then farmers, who in worst case all miss them. Assassins will hit the bomb and will grind them down even on level 98 usually before they reach the gate.
if they reach the gate, keep in mind that a priest can heal it up again before next one slip past you, giving you a better lifeline.

other then that they also stackup nicely behind a tougher tank, such as a giant or a maxed nobunaga. causeing a increasing amount of damage and reducing the harm that comes to their protector. Hopefully the stack will become so big that it doesn't need protection against other attacks then AOE. all those tiny attacks also slow down one enemy while grinding it slowly but noticably to it's death. While the Hero stand protected inside sticking his sword out slashing back any short range melee unit trying to hit it. unless he is upfront helping the guardian. This tactic will eventually fail but it speed up levels right now. but the improved bomb/spiderbaby protection will allways be there.

15 waves maxed, TT at 15. Spearman maxed out. Cost up to 28 Gems/level, 942 HP/460 attack (AOE). This guy do help with grinding on the lower level that doesn't have flying units if you put him behind a tank, they speed up the enemy stack removal quite well with their AOE attacks. Probably not worth the gem since it needs a good tank or they won't survive well enough to be worth it, it atleast open up another speedup tactics on specific waves only. if the tank survive long enough to let a few stack up behind him. Enemy spearmen is a threat that lethargy reduce.

20 Waves maxed, TT at 20., Spearmen are worth it, because they made my giant spearman so much better, every hit is doing more then my TT is doing right now. which also mean that the warrior and panzer is worth putting gems into.

Can you use a macro on this game?
0
0
By PrimeBigTime on 08 Sep 2014 16:22
if you can add macros to your keyboard, you can reduce the need of paying attaintion a bit but you can't leave it running with macros without it endup in a situation where the game get stuck dying all the time. but less attention means more grinding to get through the waves, so more time running the game.

25 waves maxed TT at 27. more then halfway there, 300+ giants, 200+ peace charms and 250+ sushi plates stacked away for the tough waves. Looks right now as it's not going to last all the way. I hope I don't need to grind levels I already have completed to get gems and charms. I also took one week off the game but each wave takes close to 8 min to push through right now.

Do the enemies spawn quicker in the higher levels? Looking at your wave times in the leaderboards, some of the waves you had finished while I am standing in from of the spawn cave waiting for the next group to spawn. Like level 49 the leaderboards show you with a time of 28 seconds and my lowest time so far is 4 minutes with most of that just sitting waiting for the next group of zombies to spawn.

I think it's sort of random. I remember speed running against myself on waves 1-10 (since they were easier) and noticed that sometimes I would stand waiting for enemies and end up doubling my best time, and others I would constantly have waves of enemies spawning. There may be some trigger or something that forces spawns but I couldn't consistently get fast runs. For some of the levels, I did use respawning as a method to quickly end the levels, so that could also be a point. I'm not sure how respawning affects enemy spawns, so that could have possibly led to some of the fast times.

30 waves maxed, TT at 32, Three nasty flying levels causing me to loose alot of giants, so I am down to only 230 giants, peace charm and sushi plates remain intact, I might even have gained a few. Okay so now I got those healer slowing me down to a crawl in the next coming 20 levels. lv 30 wasn't that bad, I reached lv90 before it became a problem and that was the horsemen that caused it more then the healers. The next five doesn't look that bad except for 33 that requires giants from a very early level.

35 waves maxed, TT at 36 this is really taking forever, down to only playing 5 waves a day. I have maxed out the Archer and Frosty, The Archer are only worth it with a giant in front, they build up slower then Assassin, but stay safe. Frostie are not worth it except for level 38 you really don't need more then one or two in your archer stack. Giants has climbed to 250 left, for the next five waves 38 is the one that is worst. You need to use a fully upgraded Spear Giant, and drink tea to get enough frosties behind him. while you as main character is hitting back the lanterns within the giants reach to even manage this level without using revives. if just one bomb slipes past before you have charged up the TT you are most likley screwed and need to use a revive. So don't start the wave unless you have one as backup.

43 waves maxed TT at 45, I am run dry on good giants and almost out of sushi plates. still 412 level divided over 7 waves left. which tell me that this will take me atleast another 150 hours to finish due to grinding to get the boost needed to complete them without risk, assuming the last wave turn out to not be more then a hugh timesink.

right now it's like 5 easy levels grind to get one hard out of the way, but I assume that number will climb when the sushiplates need climb from current about one a level to three or more.

I side note is that it takes less time beating those low levels then nit would take to beat the high without giant. and grinding revives is much much expensive so I have ruled that option out.

44 waves maxed TT at 50, sushi plates dry, got plenty of giants and even several revives. Down to 325 levels left over 6 waves. 28 hours play time since last post. and the time estimate seem to hold true. wave 50 seem to be the easiest left, all you need is your farmers and a haste charm, and a little bit of tea to boost your leadership to 4 without losing the ground in the beginning. No healers so TT will take down anything the farmers can't handle and with some luck the final boss will end up stunned all the time by being stabbed by the farmers small knifes. That right don't use the sword master, he makes them attack slower and also make them hit in sync. You don't want that you want as many unsync hit as possible. a frosty or two will help but you can manage without.

I noted above that someone asked a macro recorder and although it isn't useful for the game, a macro recorder like https://www.jitbit.com/macro-recorder/ is very useful for launching the Pachinko balls.

I set it up when I go and have some dinner or do something else for the slim chance of getting some gems. I have found setting the down key for 650 milliseconds before releasing works pretty well in hitting the jackpot. I was getting around 30% of the balls launched into the jackpot machine. The chances are bloody small. I fired 1000 balls the other day and no gems :-(

By HaPPy RoNiN NZ on 02 Jul 2015 01:04
I did some sample observations and numbers to go with the Pachinko macro.

I am closer to 40% of balls entering the jackpot machine.

So 8000 balls launched = 3200 jackpot spins = 3 x 5 green gems plus lots of other stuff including revives.

45 waves maxed TT at 55, Down to 248 levels left over 5 waves, When I manually play pachinko I hit the jackpot with the majority of balls. I am using the mouse and releasing it with a pixels accuracy. there is several sweet spots which almost always hit the right spot with training you can launch them fast, ie keep the x5 bonus running, the ball I miss is mostly due to speed. 22 hours spent in game since last update.

I have now played another 27 hours, 46 waves maxed, TT at 67. Down to 161 levels left over 4 waves. HaPPy RoNiN NZ guide link only show how to start the levels, you should switch to farmers around 50% of the level to save on sushi plate usage. Also note that Panzar Giant is an option. and that when you use giant at these high levels you should have the "troop" maxed to lv10. ie spearmen or panzar at lv10!! if you don't upgrade the troop the giant will do less damage and take less damage before health refill is needed. When I have completed the game I will add my own guide to sum up my experience.

I have 1600 levels to go but I have been bouncing around a bit. I have levels 1-16 complete as well as 38 cause I found that tricky and 47-50, the more demanding levels.

I have enough sushi plates to finish 45 and 46 and if I run out I will start back at 17 to earn more.

I have my troop trample at lvl 87 and have decided to stop there and spend my gems on more sushi plates.

I'm about to finish this, maybe an hour from now. I'm on 98 on all 50 levels and 99 on the first 12. It's handy to have a script running that just sends out the farmers and ninjas on auto, occasionally does E and W, occasionally move right. Occasionally click in the corner in case the level is over. Let it run til it does't win anymore, like overnight or whatever. Then upgrade troop trample and tornado. Rinse, repeat. This is a prime example of how devoid of creativity and skill most free to play games have and this has been slowly creeping into other games as well. Grind grind grind grind grind.

21 more hours later, 48 waves maxed TT at 83. Down to 86 levels left over 2 waves. I am up to 2 sushi plates per level in average. So a little more then 1 level an hour due to grinding sushiplates. I did take a brake to finish Spartacus legend before the server close down. And that grind was a vacation and actually fun when you came from this game. it's 49 that counts, 50 should only be tedious since there is no healers and only 4 goth spiders that level is easy compare to the main grind. I got the giants for it already. I only need the 80 or so sushiplates to complete 49.

Hah insidious, definitely autohotkey for the win :)
That's how i did it. It kept trying a level until it died then went to the next one and tried that till it died, until it had gone through all 50, then i upgraded a little and ran it again.

If anyone wants it I'm happy to post my ahk script, BUT it is definitely not plug and play. Unless you are running at the same resolution I was (probably 1920x1200) then the pixel locations that I used to check health and level completion will be off. But send me a msg, don't just post here because I won't be checking this comment thread.

I've included my AHK script here by request.
Here are instructions on installing AHK: https://pastebin.com/62dJ4im8

You will need to determine the screen coordinates on your own (as noted below in the comments:
Location of wave selection button on ally/loadout screen
Top left wave button as well as spacing between wave buttons
Topmost Stage/Season button
Locations of victory checkmark on win screen
Locations of loss X on loss screen both with and without revives left

You would also want to create a hotkey to actually play the levels, i provided an example below.

The strategy it uses is extremely simplistic, it just spams farmers, cyclones and troop tramples. It could certainly be improved, so you don't have to level things up as much, but since this will get you gems as well, you can eventually level up as much as you need for the dumb computer to finish the bulk of the levels.

there are also two modes that you can play. i had so much gold saved up after leaving my macro running over night (purposely failing just to gather a ton of gold for a few days before i really started playing) gave me enough to buy all troop upgrades, and samurai upgrades before finishing. so i had tons of gold and played the other mode noticing my gold transfered to the none classic mode. you can used that mode if you find yourself needing more gems, dont spend any gems on that mode. ive found this helpful so far. ive also set up a macro that does 4 waves and stops so i can play on the xbone while this plays in the background. popping back in for the 34th, 35th, 39th, 40th wave to get the bonus wave done as well. im doing 5 minutes of work every 20 mins. i think this is far less painful 50 x 99 is roughly 5000 wins... thumbs up on strat TY TY TY

I haven't come very close to completing this achievement, but something that's worked for me thus far is Lethargy + Divine Intervention. If you level both up to even Level 5, they work wonders. On levels with many healers, you can Lethargy, walk through your enemies, and use DI one their backline of healers and archers. I usually have Farmers, Archers, Frosty, Panzers, and Spear Horsemen. Whichever ones come out are able to take care of the healers and boosters, and then my farmers at the front have an easier job. I just recently realized what this achievement meant, and I've gotten every wave to level 7 lol. Just a tip for any still trying to get this achievement, I know this page is like 7 years old.

Thank you soooo much for the advice. I'll work on the troop trample then. The charms are pretty useless in later levels, Half the time I basically use bonus levels to grab a snack because now they don't give much more than normal levels.

The only charm that I used every time I had one was the wealth charm so that I could get a few more gems. Otherwise they seem to do very little. Even the large special character summons die in a few seconds on higher levels.

Just as an FYI, you can get gems playing the zombie side of the game. (I'm out of the normal luck charms, but had some zombie luck charms, and decided to give it a go.) Granted, out of 10 games, I got a grand total of one gem, so it's still not a sure-fire way to get them.
I finally got wave 1 to level 99. I think I'm calling this done. That TA ratio is tempting (my highest so far is only 11.9), but it's just not worth it. Unless they ramp up the gem drops some day, or ratchet down the difficulty.

By Bears Scare Me on 25 Aug 2013 21:23
When you upgrade your bow to lv6 it get a much larger aoe boom so I recommend that you atleast get it this high to speed up killing the easy waves of zombies, to simply save play time. there is hundred of levels with these zombies so you will save alot of time and it's quite cheap to reach this level. I doubt it will be of much effect in the late high level thought. also the first thing you should upgrade in this game is leadership, use the 100 gem you get by completeing the 50th wave the first time for maxing this and get a troop trample upgrade. another note avoid playing zombie rising it gives less gems then classic games and even if you beat all 30 waves it doesn't grant you any bonus games.

I have given up on Tornado, it simply don't do enough damage to be worth the fact that you loose so much ground compare to lethargy. it will only kill the flying squirells anyway and they can be shoot down with a good bow. I have reached as far as lv7 on the hero and his key powers, I have two waves done, and the rest between 5-54. My troop trample kills 1 strong enemy each time. so time to rebuild it is essential compare to hurting a few flying enemies. I also learned to not use the lucky charm, that crappy medalion gives double the lot but only half the value each. never ever got a gem with it equipt, even when playing on the good waves such as 49. I got four gems in one play on it once (without charm) other waves that has been good to me: 38,43,48 has given me up to 3, wave13,19,20,22,34,41,50 has granted me up to two in one play.

Minor update to my progress.

First I've stopped using Frosty the Bowman. While he was helping for some levels I found that once Troop Trample had cleared a large section of enemies I was still left a large group that while a few would be slowed, they would still just bulldoze over the Frosties. The help I was getting from slowing down a single enemy at a time just wasn't worth it.

My current strategy is to place myself under the gate, spam Farmers as soon as I can and throw in some Swordsmiths here and there. I'm sure the Swardsmith is becoming less useful so I might drop him at some point at just spam the Farmers. You start to find that enemies are just to strong for anything like a Farmer, even with a sward, to damage so they are there only to slow forward progress of enemies down.

In case you're wondering, I sit at the gate because the chances of a gem being dropped that you can get to safely are just so low, a few hits and your dead. If there is an archer around then it is endgame as you run away. Sure, you can revive but that seems like a waste, I plan on using them later on higher levels.

I also am still using Troop Trample (currently at level 140 with 100,750 damage per) and Lethargy. I spam these as often as I can and have been doing ok with making progress on get 99 on levels though I'm still having to grind away for bonus levels for the gems.

Once I loose a single battle on a higher level I go back to levels 1-9 and just keep grinding them, endlessly. Once I've added maybe 20-25 more levels to Troop Trample I go back to the higher levels to see what I can do grinding up there.

Now for the depressing part of the update. I've spent way more time than I wish to admit, I'm not sure I can keep this up. Back in Jan 2014 I posted my status and since then I've been able to get levels 1-25 all at 99 and levels 26-30 have had just a few wins added to them. Now, back in January I was able to play most levels under 25 and just had not started the process in depth. Once I started grinding them it wasn't too bad and the gems I was getting from the bonuses was enough to keep me going, that however has stopped... I am now grinding 1-9 because I have to and they, I assume, are the quickest levels to grind.

Based on what some people are saying they had both Tornado and Troop Trample well over 100. Being I am sticking with just Troop Trample and had Lethargy maxed ages ago I figure I'll need my TT up in to the 250 range. I see already that on level 25 with 99 wins my level 140 TT can't even mow down a full group if there is even a single fence enemy, let alone some of the higher end Spider Ladies or Large Oni guys.

I can only assume the time frame here but to add another 100 levels to my TT is going to take months. To break it down for someone looking to do this it goes something like this.
Once you have levels 1-5 at 99 wins it takes me about the following amount of time to win each level with my current load-out:
Level 1 - 0:54
Level 2 - 1:22
Level 3 - 1:36
Level 4 - 1:39
Level 5 - 2:22 (Never timed it, looks like I'll start grinding 1-4 now)
Bonus levels range from 1 to 2 minutes it seems, really depends on which one you get.
Then add the time spent in menus, changing levels and spinning for the bonus, hoping you get the Gems. Sure, just a few seconds, but they add up when you do it hundreds, nay, thousands of times.

So lets give some more perspective to this. SbN Spacefish said he was seeing the 5 Gems from the bonus round about every 5 rolls which is about what I see too. I'm seeing about 8 to 9 minute turn around on grinds so I see about 1 gem per 9 minutes, just a little less than SbN Spacefish. I do participate in the Bonuses moving forward so I get a few gems from there, but not many. I need 20 to level up my TT and I need to do that another let's call it 70 times (I'll get more spins at bonus once I start playing the higher levels to get them to 99). That means I need 1,400 more gems and about 12,600 minutes more playtime to get them.

Now I feel like I've done the math wrong here because that comes out to 210 hours or 8.75 days of solid play to get my TT up to level 210. That sounds like a ton of time to some, and maybe I am delirious here, but that sounds manageable. I've spent way more time than that on this already.

Once at level 210 for TT it is off to playing a few more thousand levels to get levels 25 through 50 at 99 wins each.

If you are thinking about going for this, really think about the time commitment. I feel I'm in to far to stop, but I still have months of play ahead of me, for those just starting this will be a half year commitment, at least. guess some people have more time to do things like this than me, but this is a seriously boring and long achievement to go after.
