How to unlock the Common Sense achievement in Slay The Spire - Definitive Guide
There are a lot of ways to do this. I did it in an Ironclad run and here is my results screen: To clarify, you cannot have any cards in your deck with a blue (uncommon) or yellow (rare) banner under the card name. These were common cards added to my deck: Bash and Defend are Starter cards. Body Slam was the key. Upgraded, it costs 0. Shrug it Off and Pommel Strike were useful for card draw. True Grit was useful to thin out cards throughout combat until I was able to remove them permanently and when upgraded, you choose the card to Exhaust. Warcry was a random late add that draws two cards when upgraded so it was a one time free card draw.
I had some good luck with my relics, as well, particularly one that adds, then removes 3 Strength on turn one and another that starts you with an artifact, effectively preventing the 3 Strength loss (making it permanent).

My deck was similar. I ended up with 4 Shrug it Offs+ and 2 Body Slams+. I could block most damage and deal a good 40 each turn.

Just going to add that it seems fine to use non-commons from potions. I used several power/attack potions in combats and chose things like Demon Form. Using these did not void the achievement.

I personally made it with the Defect and with ton of patience and retries.
Defect has some really good common cards to deal a nice amount of damage each turn.
Here is my deck:
- Claw+ (x2)
- Beam Cell+(x1)
- Go for the Eyes+ (x1)
- Hologram+ (x3)
- Streamline+ (x2)
- Sweeping Beam+ (x2)
- Rebound+ (x1)
- Defend+ (x2)
I also got 1 relic that REALLY helped me : Kunai!
I play a lot of 0-cost attacks every turn, and my dex literally exploded during long fights. I reached at least 11 or 12 during my last fight again the awakened one.
Unceasing Top may be very useful too in this type of deck but I didnt manage to get it.
Empty cage and busty crown were my picks after bosses.
I also got some "money" relics during my run, they were useful to help me get rid of my strikes and defends.
I aimed a lot at "?" events, in order to get useful event to remove a "card from my deck". Believe me, you definetely won't want to have strikes in your final deck!
The way I played my deck is quite straight forward:
1. - Beam Cell / Go for the Eyes if I have them in hand
2. - Streamline & Claw
3. - Hologram to repick Stramline or claw
4. - Rince and Repeat from 2 as long as you can offord with your energy/hologram cards.
5. - If you no longer have Hologram nor Streamline nor Claw, Sweeping beam is a good card to draw, even with only 1 enemy.
Good luck hunting this... You'll surely need some.

You can get this achievement relatively easily with The Ironclad. The approach I used to get this involved a defense heavy build, taking advantage of Body Slam+. Keep your deck lean here, you just want the basics so you can get as many Body Slams into your hand every turn. Prioritize removing Strikes, followed by Defend. You can keep a few Defend, and Bash can be kept to boost your damage with Body Slam.
In general, you want to take the following cards:
- Body Slam: As many as you come across. Upgrade them all. The 0 cost upgrade makes this your primary method of damage.
- Shrug It Off: Useful for the extra defense, and the card draw is a bonus so you can cycle to your Body Slams.
- Pommel Strike: You can take one or two of these. When upgraded they give 2 card draw.
- [Optional] True Grit: Gives block and can be useful to clear crud from your deck in longer battles.
- [Optional] Armaments: Gives block and can be useful to upgrade your un-upgraded cards. All the other cards in your deck are greatly improved through upgrades, so it can be quite helpful.
- [Optional] War Cry: Helps with card draw. Can setup your next turn, though with a lean deck, this shouldn't be a problem.
Relics:
- Dexterity relics like Oddly Smooth Stone are incredible, improving your defense AND damage.
- Extra energy relics are always great, as long as you can deal with the trade offs. Slaver's Collar and Busted Crown were helpful in my run.
- Relics that grant strength like Mutagenic Strength can be helpful here too, though less helpful than the above.

To get the trophy, you can use unusual and rare cards during the game, the main thing is that you have time to remove them at the time of killing the boss of the 3rd act. At the same time, you can use potions that give cards in any battle, including the last one (you do not save these cards after the battle).

We identify cards by banner color: gray means common, blue means uncommon, gold means rare card. I used the deck from the video guide and passed it the first time.

A dead branch does NOT cancel the trophy. I went with her to the sharpening, and it just poured out of a cornucopia.
