How to unlock the Here Be No Dragons achievement in Spellspire - Definitive Guide
So you're now faced with grinding to level 100 (which will take anywhere from 30-40 hours) to get it over with or waiting for an update that might eventually come at some time in the future, possibly lessening the grind.
And furthermore, what happens if you're at dungeon level 82 when the update comes and the dragon is moved to level 50? You can't level select. I hope they plan for that scenario.
I was going to try to be the first to finish the game but I'll probably just get myself to dungeon level 49 and wait it out.
"we have actually already made the change in game code, and now we'd just need to get a bit of a breather to get the console updates done and released. Unfortunately we don't have a clear view on when exactly we'd be able to do so, but we certainly will. The worst case scenario is it'll have to wait until after our summer holidays, and that'd put the update time to somewhere in August. The best case scenario is we'll be able to do it this week"
12 hours later i suddenly got the achievement. Got notified on my phone without a console even being on lol
I am sorry to bother but i played to dungeon lv L or 50 and indeed there is the chrome dragon. Killed him got the quest and when i go to achievements ingame it tells me i got the achievement BUT i didn't pop and i didn't get the achievement on xbox live. Waited for 10 minuted restarted the game... didn't help i guess you still have to make it to level C or 100...
I already played 44 hours to this point and it will take at least another 30-40. So i'll do that and write an update if i got it on lv 100
The endless dungeon levels of Spellspire mix things up a bit from the core gameplay by adding challenges. You will have three challenges available to you at any one time.
Once you have got the Thesaurus and Dungeon Master trophies out of the way, focus solely on the challenges. You will be spending a lot of time on this step.
Challenges take one of the following forms:
- Slay [x] monsters - cumulative over a number of runs. Just keep playing until it's done
- Slay [x] monsters of a specific type - cumulative over a number of runs. Just keep playing until it's done. Consult the Monsterpedia in the shop if you're not sure what the particular monster type looks like.
- Slay [x] monsters in a single run - use the anagram solver detailed under Thesaurus if you're struggling with this. The number starts out nice and low but can get challenging as you descend further.
- Collect [x] gold - cumulative over a number of runs. Just keep playing until it's done
- Collect [x] gold in a single run - use the anagram solver detailed under 'Thesaurus' if you're struggling with this. The number starts out nice and low but can get challenging as you descend further.
- Kill [x] monsters with words beginning with a specific letter - weaken the monsters first with other words if needed. Kills due to damage over time do count towards the total. Sometimes the letter in question won't be part of the selection, in which case you won't be able make any progress. If you don't have any other challenges to work towards, restart from the pause menu.
- Kill [x] monsters with palindromes - palindromes are words which spell the same forwards and backwards. Most of the palindromes you'll be able to find are pretty short, like TAT or POP, so either weaken monsters with other words first or equip the Genie Hat that grants 15x damage to palindromes.
Progress towards and completion of challenges is only calculated at the end of a run when you die. Exiting the dungeon or restarting will mean that any progress you made towards a challenge in that run does not count.
Completing a set of three challenges grants a trophy and a pile of gold. Collecting 5 trophies allows you to descend a level. The choice of equipment is up to you, but I found a fully upgraded Legendary Wand of Drain Life, Luminous Robe and Dark Sorceror's Hat sufficient to make a good amount of progress
The Chrome Dragon lives on the 100th level of the Endless Dungeon, which means you'll be completing over 1500 challenges on your way there. It will take a good 40-50 hours to get there - developer 10tons have stated that he may be moved to level 50 in a future patch, but there are no timelines for this as things stand. Bring a fully upgraded Master Wand, plenty of Attack Power upgrades, full health potions and an anagram solver.

To progress through the dungeon, you have to complete challenges on each floor. These challenges are things such as "Defeat 21 monsters" or "Defeat 10 monsters with palindromes." These challenges are all cumulative unless otherwise noted (such as "in one run") so you can take as many attempts as you need to complete them. You'll be given challenges in sets of three. Each time you complete all three in a set, you'll earn a trophy. You have to earn five trophies on each floor to move on to the next floor. This makes the dungeon a massive grind to get through.
The chrome dragon referred to in the description of this achievement shows up on floors 50, 75, and 100. So your ultimate goal is to get to floor 50 to finish achievements related to the dungeon. The best way I found to progress is to equip the legendary life drain wand and the Dark Sorcerer's Hat to deal as much damage as possible. If a floor happens to have a bunch of Armored Elite Corpses and Lard Corpses, I would switch to the legendary fire wand. Lard Corpses are particularly difficult to kill with the life drain wand. With this set up you should have no problem killing enemies along with an anagram solver if need be. Next, and perhaps most important, equip the default starting robe so you have basically no health. The reason for this is so that you can purposely let yourself die as soon as you meet the challenge requirements, which you should be tracking in your head as you go. This is critical to finishing floors as quickly as possible. Each run should be only as long as it needs to be to finish each challenge, otherwise you're wasting time. If you have a good robe equipped, you'll be stuck sitting there waiting for enemies to kill you to end your run. Only equip a good robe if you have a challenge for doing more in a single run than you can manage without getting hit (since one hit will kill you), but I have had no problems surviving without getting hit.
After around 25 hours or so of grinding through dungeon floors, you'll finally get to the 50th floor where the chrome dragon is. Like the dragon at the top of the tower, he is resistant to every type of damage from all wands and is weak to the Master Wand only. The dragon itself isn't too difficult as long as you're properly equipped. Most important is your gear:
- Fully upgraded Master Wand
- Fully upgraded Luminous Robe
- Fully upgraded Blue Sorcerer's Hat
- Four pouches with 4 Arcane Shields
- I had bought enough base attack upgrades that I had +28,500 to attack
- I had bought enough base health upgrades that I had +6,000 to health
This is what I had going into the fight. The Master Wand is a given since it's all he's weak to. The Luminous Robe is important, but more on that shortly. The Blue Sorcerer's Hat is key because the dragon will then take twice as long to attack every time. This lets you do twice as much damage with every word count (instead of just 6-letter words if you use the Dark Sorcerer's Hat, for example). The attack upgrades I bought cost me literally millions and millions of money, but the exact amount you have isn't critical.
Here is the strategy for the fight:
Step 0: Put all 10 letters into an anagram solver. If you're not familiar with doing this quickly, quickly read the first row of 5, pause your game, type those 5 in, unpause, read the bottom 5, pause, and type them in. After the word list generates, review it. If you don't have a large amount of 6-, 7-, 8-, and 9-letter words, pause and restart.
Step 1: DO NOT use one of your Arcane Shields. Hammer away with the longest words. It should go without saying that you type in a word, then pause the game while you check your word list for your next word. Combine words as much as possible. For example, if "cantered" is one of your 8-letter words, also enter "canter" quickly before switching to the next word.
Step 2: Let the dragon hit you on his first attack. Then use one of your Arcane Shields. Continue to hammer away with words. The dragon will do his second attack which will be blocked by your shield. All the while your Luminous Robe should completely regenerate your health.
Step 3: On the dragon's third attack, let him hit you again. Then use one of your Arcane Shields. Follow this pattern where you let every other one of his attacks hit you and use an Arcane Shield in between while your robe regenerates your health.
Using this method, I defeated the dragon after using only 2 of my 4 Arcane Shields and I hadn't even exhausted all 6- and 7-letter words yet. So you definitely have some leeway in case you don't have 4 Arcane Shields or don't have as much base attack upgrade as I did. As soon as the dragon falls, the achievement will unlock.
