How to unlock the Destroyed 1,000,000 Blocks achievement in SUPER BOMBERMAN R - Definitive Guide

Update: I have found new info that makes it hard to determine the real best way to go about this, so read through and come to a decision on what's best for you. My critical path method is solid and will cut it down to roughly 200 hrs plus load times, maybe less. Thanks to the people who have contributed thus far. I know it's not the most concise solution but I like the progressive nature of it so I'm leaving it as is.

Alright, here's my take on this. As Angry Kamehameha points out in his solution, this will take a long time. I don't recall exact numbers, but I believe my average time to clear old school was around 1:20-30 seconds. At 11,000 matches at 1:30 a match equals out to about 283 hrs total.

The alternative I propose is to buy the critical path stage for 4000 gems. You probably already know about using power zone to grind gems quick if you need to, but you have to do the million blocks/bombs anyways so if you want to grind it out the slow way that's up to you.

Now the main reason I suggest critical path, is because it drops penetrating bomb and max fire power ups, making very short work of clearing the entire stage. I've had the whole stage cleared in under 30 seconds with favourable power ups at the beginning.

For the logistics, the map only has about 70 blocks, but takes an average time of closer to a minute if we're being fair. 1mill÷70=14286 games is about 14286 minutes at 1 min per game. ÷ that by 60 for a total of 238.1 hrs. It's not much time saved overall, but every bit helps in a grind like this.

So for the set up, I went with the following.
Rules: Battle Royale
Player: 4p
Com level: Off
Sets: 1
Time: 5
Start Position: Fixed
Revenge Carts: Off
Pressure Blocks: Off
Skulls: Off
Special Abilities: On

Under normal maps, select critical path once you have bought it.
Turn on your second controller and select whichever bombers you want.

Clear the blocks, kill player 2, rinse, and repeat. Forever.

If you don't have a second controller, you can still do this, but not as effectively since you will be facing a com. Set com to weak and only include one cpu opponent.

Also some info on gems. It seems to me you only get gems at the end of the match if you:
1) Kill the other player
2) Get killed by the other player
3) Survive for more than 1 minute before ending the match(even by suicide).

Comments that I feel are better placed here:

If you put more sets, would that save some loading times? Also what is your general clearing strategy, because I can never clear all blocks in 30 secs. I usually find the max flame power up quickly, but the penetrating bombs are always late to show...
Posted by Fuuldrin

Yes, more sets equals less load time, if I had to guess maybe 5 seconds of spamming a after a match. Part of the reason I use one set is to get the 150 gems after every match to buy stuff since I didn't want to grind power zone out forever.

The 30s I only pulled off once or twice. 40 seconds is more reasonable. I've had other games run about 1:20 where it didn't give me extra bombs or penetrating bombs until the very end. Hence why I said more like a minute if we're being fair.

General Strat is to bomb back and forth starting down first to open up the first 2 blocks then right to hit the one, then down to hit the 2 blocks, then right to open more of the top path. Keep going back and forth like this hitting as many double blocks as you can. Extra bombs can speed this process up until you find penetrating bombs and hopefully a max fire. From here it's just cleanup. Destroy all 3 vertical rows. I try to lay a bomb on the second tile from the top above p2. That will destroy that whole row and stop just before p2. Lastly, run down the middle dropping bombs to destroy all horizontal rows.

Hope this helps.
Posted by Shadykilla420

Fuuldrin also mentioned using plasma bomber. You can buy him in the store and you'll need him for the 5 dastardly bombers achievement anyways. His special ability with the A button drops a bomb that detonates faster. This can help speed things up, but be mindful of it. You don't have as much time to run away, so sometimes regular bomb is the better option. I'm not 100% if these bombs count towards bomb progress but one of the current people with the achievement confirmed that it does. Also, once you get the penetrating bomb, only use regular bomb. The penetrating bomb doesn't apply to plasmas A button bomb.

I just tried plasma bomber myself and I've already managed a 20 second clear. Have a 23 second and 27 second clip on my profile if you care to check those out. 23 second is here:
Sorry, this Game Clip has been removed

Plasma bomber also brought my average time down quite a bit. If I had to guess, between 40 and 50 seconds a match, maybe better. But being generous with a 50 second average brings the overall total down to just under 200 hrs.

Czesio83 also mentions using draws at the end of matches to save small load times, but this is if you don't care about getting endgame gems, which I imagine alot of you don't.

Newest info:
1) Make an 8 player game instead of 4, but still only include your 2 controllers. On 8 player, critical path has more blocks, as well as 3 penetrating bomb and max fire power ups instead of 2 giving you a slightly better chance of getting them early. I am pretty sure with a solid clear strategy this will speed things up even more, despite it taking longer to clear the stage. The 8 player stage has about 86 blocks and I've done it in under 30 seconds a few times with different paths, each making a few mistakes, so there's potential for maybe a 25 second match. One of my 29 second runs on the 8 player map is here:
Sorry, this Game Clip has been removed

2) Credit to Bum Bum Yuck for testing and confirming that blocks your local coop partners destroy do indeed count towards your total as well, so if you have the friends willing to do it and 2-8 controllers, this would most definitely be the fastest method if combined with the above strategies, although even having one person help would speed it up significantly.

Yeah. Penetrating bomb works wonders. Destroy 1-4 blocks at a time with regular bombs, or clear entire rows with penetrating bombs... Not a tough choice.

Well maybe I'm unlucky. I have done that stage over 100 times to have a good feel of it. I had the same clear strategy. I really want to believe it's the best solution, however the game hasn't been kind so far. I usually got the penetrating bombs and decent power only until I clear more than half of the blocks. I'm using the fast detonating bombs with A to save time early on, and I still average 1m10s per stage. I'm clearing "speed zone" in 1m/1m20s depending on layout, but this one has more blocks overall.
At this point it's mostly a matter of taste: as your solution is more relaxing, for long sessions I wouldn't mind switching to it to rest my eyes. Speed zone is bright blue, and I mess up from time to time.

it's a bonus character, you purchase it in the ingame store. If my memory is correct he's the plasma bomber and he is in a flashy yellow suit. His special (with A) is a fast detonating bomb. The only downside is that those bombs don't count towards the 1M bombs placed so I use them only at the beginning of the level until I hit 1 or 2 extra bombs.
EDIT: I receved a message from Prodigy Leeroy sauing that A bombs from the Plasma bomber count towards the 1M bomb achievement. I can't confirm myself but since he has the achievement I trust him. This is great news to whoever is going for those 2 achievements :)

Maybe is no big deal but
whenever you put it on bomb
and you will stand in the same field as the opponent you get DRAW you do not have to waste time on end 5 sets.

I just played this game locally with three friends of mine. Since we were all player users and signed in on my tag, it seemed that we all contributed to the achievements. I played a total of 12 rounds and accumulated over 700 blocks destroyed, and many rounds I died pretty early, which could only mean that my buddies were somehow helping.

By EpiphanyFart on 07 Apr 2019 15:02
How did you come to 700 blocks when there's nothing that counts individual blocks destroyed? Tracker only moves 1% every thousand blocks. Unless you literally counted the blocks you destroyed up until then which is just nonsense. If that's true and you had 4 people to play all the time that would for sure be the fastest way then, and in that case there may even be a better map for it.

There's an achievement for 1000 blocks and bombs detonated and both of those reached over 70% for me after our first time playing.

And the true math would be 1% every 10,000 blocks.

Anyways, this method should be further investigated, if anyone has any dummy accounts they want to test this on while keeping track of their 1000 block achievement.

6 blocks/min method would be more efficient with a turbo, but I guess it's be useful if you didn't have or want to invest in one. Your double bombing every block Strat seems the better option overall if you can figure out a way to make it work with the different layouts. You said earlier you had a way where you killed yourself where it potentially splits and started the loop over. Why not just try that with the double bomb Strat? The whole board everytime would be nice, but in the long run of just idling anyways it shouldn't matter too much.

By Shadykilla420 on 20 Jun 2019 02:35
Exactly what I intent to do. I'm going with 6 blocks/mins for now because I lack time to complete it correctly. Like you said I didn't want to purchase a turbo controller, and I have much more control over what I'm doing with code than a turbo controller. For example, even for killing myself right at the beginning, I need to press 2 different buttons (A for menu and B for bomb). I don't know if there's a controller that does that (my 360 Hori doesn't).

If you use plasma bomber you should only have to press A afaik. A will trigger his special bomb, which also detonates faster and would saved a second or two every repetition.

By secretspy911 on 24 Jun 2019 07:02
K. Thx. I've been using them in my small boosting sessions myself, but it is very hard to tell considering its 1% every 10,000 bombs. Even clearing the whole stage takes 80 bombs or less, so it'd be at least 100 matches clearing the whole stage to see progress. Truthfully it's been a while. Still at 5% blocks and only 3% bombs.

So here you go, I finally did it. Well for a third of the level.
It's all I had the time to make. But I was able to get a good 15 blocks/min, twice as much as only pressing A. I'll do the rest of the level some other time and see if I can speed the process even more by fully completing the level and killing both characters for a draw.

Idk. Afaik, Xbox one achievements still can't be cheated. It does seem a bit crazy, the online alone took a good deal of time, but if he was using a 2-4 player method, it could be possible. Even 2 people could cut the grind down to 100hrs theoretically.

I did just consider one other possibility, but idk if it would work. If he logged someone else in locally in multiplayer that had the mill blocks/bombs already, it might unlock it for you as well, or if it counts a cumulative total of all profiles signed in at once instead of just p1s total. In that case you would only need 250,000 blocks with 4 profiles signed in.

By Shadykilla420 on 15 Jan 2020 02:00
For arguements sake though, if you had 8 people using plasma bomber, that's only like 10 plasma bombs a piece to clear all 80 something blocks. You're looking at maybe 20 second matches every single time without powerups. If not less.

If you don't need gems, can't you potentially set the timer and sets to max and just make yourself die after sweeping each round as well as winning as many as you can to make it last as long as possible?

Yeah you can set timer and sets to max. Fastest method is to end in draws though so a set never ends.

Frequently at my best moments when I'm paying attention and winning in 1 min or less it takes like 3 hours (straight) to move up 1% on blocks. It will definitely take a while. I would've settled for a half million as I'm currently only 11% of the way there.

Well im not being funny but the bloke who did it sub 70 hours sayin he did most of it offline is strange cos he was on my friends list for about 4 years until i removed him and he NEVER played offline ever. In fact he was online for like 10-12 hours a day 7 days a week.

I dont know him, nor his circumstances, all I know is what he told me. It's always possible he has 2 xbox's, as many people do, and did it offline on one while the other was online. Some people have also intentionally used the offline trick to cut down on xbox's time tracker to make it look like they did it the fastest. Who really knows but him.

By Shadykilla420 on 05 May 2020 22:40
Whoa, what’s with all the confusion over clarions 70 hour time? The main bulk of this completion (1 mil bombs/blocks) is a script, it’s efficient and honestly kind of confusing to do this grind any other way. Of course you’re going to run the script offline, so you can play on another Xbox one while the offline box is running for 3 weeks straight 🤣

By EpiphanyFart on 02 Jun 2020 16:48
A script is a program that executes preset commands, effectively turning this into an idle achievement. Similar to turbo , but better with proper setup. I guess it would be closer to a macro. I dont really know, I'm not too knowledgable on the subject.

By Shadykilla420 on 10 Jun 2020 21:53
You guys do realize that looking at completion times will not always give an accurate account of what is happening right? Sometimes the time played tracker will stop tracking for a while. Sometimes the time played tracker doesn’t even track time (I have some games that state 0 hours played when other people track). Offline playing doesn’t track either. And yes macros like a Cronus which uses scripts is allowed by TA.

Is Using Cronus Max/Zen Or Titan One/Two Considered NOT To Be Cheating?

The cpu could also be tested by putting 3 cpu and just letting them have at it. A dummy account would be best so you can see progress easier. I'll try to get around to testing them soon, but I don't have much time lately and it hurts me to play some days.

I think that what the CPU destroys, also counts towards the achievment, since I've been playing with two controls and two robots .. I played about 11/12 matches and got the achievment of 1000 blocks .. if we take into consideration 85 blocks per game , implies that the CPU also counts towards the achievement

By Akum14 on 08 Apr 2019 05:12
Okay, I tested it. CPU blocks do not count. Although, I had four controllers signed in and measured my progress while destroying blocks and placing bombs with each individual user bomber and it tracked for every one. So if you have 7 friends who are willing to kill some time playing bomberman with you, that is officially the fastest way to do it.

AND YES! I signed each controller into individual profiles.

I agree with Bum Bum Yuck. I left the game running overnight in an 8 player game - no change to my 1,000,000 blocks percentage (I would have expected it to gain 2-3%).

If I had a turbo controller, I could set up a 2 player (1-set) match against the CPU and use the plasma bomber. Then turboing [A] would drop a bomb which would kill you and take out 2 blocks, then get you through the menus to restart.

I think that would net ~6 blocks a minute ~360 blocks an hour.

Only ~2778 hours or ~116 solid days of leaving your console on playing by itself.

I'm trying to turbo boost that achievement. My problem is I wanted to complete the same level with a macro. I tried with the classic stage since there aren't any obstacles. But, each game the map is randomized between 2 layouts... Is there a map with only one possible layout?

By Czesio83 on 04 May 2019 13:33
He's looking for a consistent macro stage. Alleys don't matter, just has to be the same every time. I've never used macro myself, so I don't fully understand it, but I feel like you could still do it on any regular level with some experimenting, but it wouldn't be quite as efficient. You would have to use b button bombs the whole way, then program in the 2 or 3 a button presses for the restart. You would just have to make sure he dies partway through the level on the second layout so when the a buttons in the loop came around it would restart. I'd have to check though I don't remember if b exits out of the first results screen or not. If not yeah you would need a single layout level.

I did some testing and the level I am able to get the most blocks before the pattern can change is the Great Wall 8 players. And when I come to a point where the pattern could have change I just kill myself and start over so my macro is always working. In fact, I'm building an app where I am able to script any move on my PC with the Xbox streaming. When I'm done I could make it available in a new solution.

I understand, and I agree with you partially about achievements needing skills. But for achievements that are all about boosting or repeating the same action over, I absolutely have no regret doing it.

So if I invested in a turbo controller, I could leave the engine running day and night and it would keep going in and out of matches? This is confirmed? I could leave it on when I go to sleep and while I'm at work. That could tackle quite a bit, no?

Read the comment further up. Would be about 6 blocks per minute. That's like 360 blocks an hour. Not really worth it when you can throw that down in like 3 minutes actually playing.

What if you had four turbo controllers? Hehe.

Say he had 4-8 people. Theoretically 50hrs for 4 people. 25 hrs for 8. 25 highly unlikely. Would need 8 coordinated people from the start. But it's not too farfetched if he had the manpower, and that would leave ample time to finish in 68. Furthermore, to my knowledge x1 achievements still can't be hacked, or some of the uncompleted x1 games would have frauds showing up.

Many I mean loads of people these days use trainers to complete Win10 games and get away with it till somebody with a sharp eye notices off completion times, an achievement so notorious as this and you can get it way below par time at 24/7 progression this is something that will be reported really quick, especiall the staggering 45 people here prolly know eachother or know of eachother so some rando dude clearing this in 150hrs raises flags I assume

I've done this on and off since 2019. Got tired of doing it myself so I bought a turbo controller recently. It's like 8 blocks every 55 seconds which is like 500 blocks an hour. It'll take about 2000 hours there. I considered buying a second turbo controller which would raise it to about 20 bombs a minute since there are no load times. Currently sitting at 53% for blocks.

So here's an update on what I've been doing.
I've been able to successfully control my bomberman character with an app through the Xbox App by streaming my game to my PC. The greatest difficulty is taking out every random aspect of a set. I also had to calculate every little delay the game has (time for a bomb to explode, time for the character to move a square, time for a set to start, etc.)

I first analysed which map would be optimal. I guessed the map with the most blocks and no hazards would be the best. So I went with the normal map. However, once I scripted my guy to bomb as much blocks as possible without being too close to the CPU, the next runs would end up with my guy not positioning the bombs at the right places. This is where I noticed each map rotates randomly between 4 (similar but still different) layouts (why I asked before which map would have the least differences). I ended up choosing The Great Wall which only has 3 blocks changing. So, in every runs, I consider these 3 blocks as if they were there and bomb them anyway.

Having taken care of the random blocks, I thought I had everything set. But, once again, now and then a run would end up with misplaced. I realized I'd forgotten about powerups blocking explosions (I tried optimizing my runs by blowing blocks 2 squares aways from the bomb, but the fire got blocked by random powerup drops), but also about that freaking speed powerups which made my move delay calculate useless because the speed of the character was now unstable. To solve that problem, I have no other choice then blow up every possible powerup. I now have to bomb every block twice to make sure any dropped power up is destroyed.

For now, until I can fix these last problems (blowing all blocks twice), I made my code kill my guy right at the beginning, making 2 blocks explode. And I loop indefinitely. This takes out any randomness, but is far from being optimal. This way I get around 6,6 blocks/min.

Also, I just though about using a 2nd controller so I'll be able to clear the whole level, and not only half of it because of the CPU.

So I'm eager to find how many block/min I can get when I optimized everything. It's a very interesting project (I love coding).

NOTE: I refrain from posting images/videos/code because I'm not sure this is something that is accepted by TA.

Right on. Glad you were able to work something out. I view it as basically cheating myself, but if youre cool with it that's all that counts I guess. I can't deny it would beat the hell out of doing it manually. But to me it's essentially the same as people who did the GH drums achievements with a program or even the 1000 jumps in ff9. Cheating a game with an external tool to obtain an achievement you couldn't get with your own skill or effort. In this case I know it's all about saving time and effort though as it really doesn't take any skill to destroy blocks. Not trying to put you down, I even tried to give some suggestions. I'm just throwing it out there that I don't support or condone that kind of thing, even for something as menial as this, which is partly why I've never really looked into it myself other than just grasping the concept.

The achievement is self explanatory. You just need to destroy blocks in MP, Online Battles, and Story modes.

I feel that the stage 'Old-School' has the most destroyable blocks on it.
Through 10 games I got these numbers

game 1 = 81 blocks
game 2 = 85
game 3 = 91
game 4 = 86
game 5 = 85
game 6 = 90
game 7 = 89
game 8 = 90
game 9 = 90
game 10 = 87

Totaling 874
874/10=87.4 blacks average per match.

Now the real number that people would want.
1,000,000/87.4=11441.65

To get 1 Million blocks destroyed, on the stage 'Old-School' only. You need to play 11,442 games destroying and average of 87-88 blocks per match.

I'm not sure if you play against the CPU if their blocks destroyed count, as they need to destroy 10,000 blocks before it would show up as 1% on the tracker.

I'm also not entirely certain that, if you had multiple human players, all Bombers playing contribute to the same total or not.

If a different stage has more destroyable blocks in it in the MP, let me know and I'll look into unlocking that stage and testing it out as well.

Edit: Math was wrong in one place
Edit 2 : Some grammar

Anyone figured if there is some way to afk boost this? Possibly with a turbo controller? I don't have one yet but I'm thinking of getting one since it seems to come in handy when you want it.

***Turbo Controller Method***

Set-up a 1 or 2 player multiplayer game with the following settings:

Rules: Battle Royale
Player: 4P
COM Level: Off
Sets: 1
Time: 9
Start Position: Fixed
Revenge Carts: On
Pressure Blocks: On
Skulls: On
Special Abilities: On

Pick any Level & Bomber Types and when the game starts set controller 1 to turbo the A & B buttons. Doing this will result in Player 1 dropping a bomb down and killing themselves instantly, followed by the game automatically picking 'Battle Again' and repeating the process.

Following this method will also unlock:
SUPER BOMBERMAN RBomb 1000The Bomb 1000 achievement in SUPER BOMBERMAN R worth 19 pointsUse 1000 Bombs

SUPER BOMBERMAN RBomb 1,000,000The Bomb 1,000,000 achievement in SUPER BOMBERMAN R worth 1454 pointsUse 1,000,000 Bombs

If using Plasma Bomber, you'd only need to turbo the A button and it may be quicker. It's what I'm doing. Timer never goes below 1 sec off. (mine are 3:00 so I'm always dead by 2:59)

Hello at the beginning I wanted to thank you for the idea of this bosting..but I have attention to it. For 21 hours I have been doing it on my console non-stop and the result is that both achievements have increased by 1 percent, so it is better to do it yourself than to use the turbo controller. best regards

although other strategies are likely faster. This is a great way to boost your bomb count while you sleep. The over all game play time will increase but the actual game play time (with you physically playing) will decrease. This is a great idea.

Sets should be set to Five, that way you have more bomb/block explosion time before the post-match screen which just wastes precious seconds.

The more turbo controllers the merrier, because every single turbo used will count towards your bomb/block exploding.

If you really work on it, you can set up your turbo controllers to go off at the same time so you keep getting draws, which delays the post match screen even further.
