How to unlock the Beginning of a great story achievement in Trackmania - Definitive Guide
These are the equivalent to Trackmaster medals from Trackmania Turbo, bonus times to beat that aren't listed in-game. Naturally, the white tracks (#01-05) with the least difficult obstacles will give you the best chance at unlocking these.
After getting all authors in the first five tracks of the Spring23 campaign, I found #3 to be the easiest, though #5 has the most lenient time if you get a good flying turn at the end.
Trackmania is a game about staying fast, and knowing when to temporarily lose speed or take a wider angle is what gets you better times. Advanced stuff like gears aside, I have three main points -
Cut corners as closely as you can, within reason.
Keep your wheels on the ground, that's how you accelerate. This is especially important on track #1 - you want to take the sloped turn wide to stay on the ground.
Whether to drift depends on the tightness of the corner - on the last corner of track #1, drifting from going too fast/turning too hard will lose you speed compared to maintaining traction.
Below I'll link a video showing author medals on all 25 tracks of the current season. There's a bunch of high-level shenanigans on display, but it shows good lines through corners and where to position your car on sloped sections to keep it on the ground.
List of all author times, white tracks below:

#1 - 28.610
#2 - 27.254
#3 - 29.442
#4 - 20.583
#5 - 29.355

(if using it for #3, don't worry about getting right up against the wall at 1:23, it's a minimal time save compared to just taking the middle)

You shouldn’t be drifting on 01 at all for AT, you should be smooth steering that last corner.

That's what I said - "drifting from going too fast/turning too hard will lose you speed compared to maintaining traction"

White tracks have always been the easiest tracks to achieve author medal on.
You don't need to know about speedslides, drifting or gears to get author on white and green tracks, I don't

To get such a medal, you need to beat the record of the map creator. It is not displayed, but this is the highest award, you need to drive faster than gold.
